As a middle-aged woman with bills, responsibilities, and limited gaming time, I love Deep Rock Galactic because it respects my time: clear missions, controlled chaos, satisfying teamwork, and a proper sense of completion. Even if someone gets distracted by an interesting flying bug (THAT'S ME), the team can usually still get the job done. No vague life-purpose crisis. No endless open-world wandering pretending to be freedom. Just a contained mission with a finish line. And my tired brain likes closure....

One of my favourite games of all time, if you couldn't tell by the playtime. The way you interact with terrain with Engineer and Driller as well as the sheer speed and movement flexibility of scout (my main, on which I have almost 30 elite promotions at the time of writing this review) make it incredibly fun to play. Killing bugs feels satisfying, the objectives on most missions allow for a fair amount of player autonomy so you don't need to play too close to your team all the time. There's a lot to like about the game. Why the negative review, then? Unfortunately, developers of the game recently decided to practically abandon the game in favour of a rogue-lite spinoff called Rogue Core (for those unfamiliar, rogue-lites are a genre of early access ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ classified as such because they include some form of randomness and brainless stat-multiplication, named after Rogue because that game had randomness in the form of procedural generation... and uh... yeah that's all), leaving this game to an outsource development team that then released the worst seasonal update the game has ever seen, that being season 6. Don't get me wrong, the last few seasons before season 6 had been immense ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ too - Deep Scan lags the hell out of your game as it progresses, likely due to a memory leak, and the game's netcode simply can't handle the sheer amount of terrain destroyed as the mission closes, adding network lag on top of even worse framerates. One of the newest enemies added before season 6, the Corespawn Crawler, is a bullet sponge with a weakpoint the size of a peanut (which it may decide to not even expose, depending on the horoscope) that can also leap at you like a coyote and hit you even if you're running straight away from it, all while spawning in considerable numbers, prompting most teams to not even attempt the event that spawns it, UNLESS... there is a gunner on the team, who can just throw a zipline down for his entire team to sit on, at which point the event becomes a complete joke as Crawlers can no longer reach you. Amazing game design. But, as I said, all of this pales in comparison to the monumental pile of ♥♥♥♥ that season 6 is - the single smallest seasonal content update the game has seen, where all that was added was a drab (but admittedly atmospheric) biome and two new enemies exclusive to said biome - a scarab with hit detection so inconsistent that you might as well not bother dodging or reading its movement, and a ground-leech that can grab you from so far away that you might think the game bears you a personal grudge. Oh, and also a mission type that transforms your frames per second into seconds per frame every time you complete an objective, again due to the sheer amount of terrain being updated. And of course, to slap a band-aid on the microscopic amount of content the season added, the seasonal modifiers for season 6 just regurgitate these scarabs and ground-leeches into biomes outside of the one newly added in season 6. Speaking of content regurgitation, did I mention that the last two updates the game has gotten are 1. an event that forces even more of those God-awful Corespawn Crawlers upon you and 2. a shill update with an assignment rewarding players with the pickaxe skin from Rogue Core just to get more eyes on their upcoming wire coat hanger abortion of a video game? Since I'm on the topic of Rogue Core, I'll also briefly mention that I played its closed beta before the game's launch, and that it's is flawed on a fundamental level. It strips away exactly what made DRG fun - autonomy and sparse teamplay - and replaces it with a slow, grating gameplay loop with frustrating teamplay. I heard from someone closer to the game's community than I am that DRG itself was initially supposed to be a rogue-lite like how Rogue Core is now, and if that has any truth to it, I'm very glad it didn't turn out a rogue-lite and suspect that the idea was dropped because it was retarded in the first place. Assuming that this claim is true and not just an excuse to jump on the latest normie bandwagon, of course. Lastly, I'll touch on my more minor grievances with this game. The devs aren't very receptive to community feedback, or atleast very weakly receptive to it. It seems like GSG is sometimes heading in the right direction like with the recent (well, 'recent' - it was something like three years ago) Subata rework, but at this point I have little hope for any more quality reworks or rebalances. This isn't for lack of anything to change, by the way - the perk system has been begging for a rework for ages and some weapon choices for classes are so bad that it's a headache to use them. Some enemies like Stingtails are buggy and launch you way too far when they connect, and sometimes forgo their attack warning sound entirely. Newly added stalkers are obnoxiously loud and barely visible even under the best lighting conditions, which makes them frustrating to locate unless you have an aoe weapon. Despite being a co-op team-based game, you don't have many ways to coordinate with your team. You can shoot the bugs that are chasing your friends, of course, but you don't have any way to know what build your teammates are using without a third-party mod, which can lead to you bringing a conflicting build to the mission. Best example is driller - one of his primary weapons is a flamethrower, another is a cryo cannon. If you want to join a mission as driller when the lobby already has a driller, you're forced to gamble and hope you don't drop in with a build that will cuck your counterpart's playstyle. Oh, and please, for the sake of your own sanity, if you take away one thing from this review, let it be this. Limit your interactions with this game's community as much as possible. Aside from the usual colourful suspects present everywhere in the game's discord, reddit, mod.io, forums, etc, even more unassuming players can't seem to help but be caught up in this sort of larper's herd mentality where they MUST ping gold chunks or mushrooms while sitting in one place for ages. If one time is funny and two times is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying, hearing 'we're rich' six million times could turn a saint into Adolf Hitler. Thankfully, this is only a problem on lower difficulties, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who stalls the game to deepthroat a yellow boulder on haz5+ or even haz5. If you do find such an anomalous ♥♥♥♥♥♥, take the rock from his hands, deposit it, and tell him that you'd prefer to be banned instead of kicked if he's too uppity. Problem solved. To give praise where it is due, the lassaiz-faire lobby browser model is actually quite nice, and prevents the game's colourful horde community from interfering with the game itself. The most you can do to a player you dislike is ban him if you're the lobby host, or choose not to play with him and disconnect if you're not. If there is a way to report a player to have him banned from all lobbies permanently, I have not found it in almost 2000 hours of play. In short, I love this game. Which is exactly why I must give it a harsh review when it's being unfairly neglected by its own developers. Glazediver-tier shills will tell you there's nothing wrong with the game and that you must rock and stone, live in ze bunker and eat ze gold, but these are the same people that would shove a plate full of ♥♥♥♥ in their mouths if they were allowed to laserpoint it for half an hour first. I sincerely doubt Ghost Ship Games is actively malicious and hates the product of their own love and labour, more likely is that they think they can get away with more than they actually can thanks to misleading shills who love talking about the game more than actually playing it. The only way you can communicate that there's something wrong with their magnum opus which needs to be fixed - lest it dies - is by telling the devs what you don't like, not by eating it whole with its imperfections and asking for seconds when you're done.

after multiple hours of playing this game looking at what ghostship did to their franchise is so gut wrenching. Increasing game price so their slop sequel would sell more, not fixing game breaking bugs, pumping same unoriginal events where you just find reward that increase your battlepass points and few ugly looking hats, making entire spin-offs that sell for money instead of making them as side content for this game making me love this game way less compared to previous year when i could at least play public matches and now i can't even get overclocks without asking friend to join deepdive since the way this game's server system is made if your provider blocks specific server you cannot even start weekly missions even with vpn.

Deep Rock Galactic is a game I'm going to continue to play, both solo and with friends, because it's genuinely one of the most well-made PvE co-op horde shooter games I've ever played. You don't need me to tell you that. You have a whole review page telling you all these great things about the game, like the synergy between the four classes, the fun chaos of... most of the missions, the content-to-money proposition in terms of just how much stuff is in the game even when it isn't on sale (and it's on sale often). Things like that. So you might be a little confused why I clicked "No" for "Do you recommend this game?" "Do you recommend this game?" is a very different question from "Do you like this game?" or "Is this game good?" It's asking whether you would recommend the game to other people, not whether you personally find the game enjoyable. Most of the time, this overlaps. Unfortunately, for me, this is not one of those times. I don't plan on recommending anything created by Ghost Ship Games for the time being, and I don't plan on getting any supporter packs, Survivor, or Rogue Core. For the supporter packs, it's partly because I don't feel like I need any of the DLC cosmetics, since there's so many cosmetics in the base game. But for everything, it comes down to morals, and the answer to the question of: "How much ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ are you willing to tolerate?" The answer for me, unsurprisingly to anyone who already knows me, is "little to none". I will now go over the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ for the rest of the review. TL;DR: The built-in mod support is bad, their handling of the modding scene is limiting for no good reason and hostile towards people who want to make the game better, recent regional price increases, and they are now unwilling to accept the feedback that has gotten them to where they are now. Modding The built-in modding support is laughably bad. I don't know how anyone who designed it would look at it, go, "Yup, this is something I would use", and then ship it. A 50 mod cap and general instability across the board - I have genuinely had mods turn off on me with no discernible pattern for no reason - means that you're better off using a third party solution (Mint, in this case). It would genuinely be better and less confusing to remove the built-in mod support and let the community do it. Most games do this, and it works! It's less development effort wasted on pointless things, and less confusion for new players who might not understand why things aren't working or why there are pointless restrictions that don't need to be there. I suspect the only reason we have a built-in mod manager is because GSG had a business deal with mod.io, which is not a player-friendly reason, but don't quote me on that because that's just a theory. Regardless, my modding-related issues go beyond the built-in mod manager and go more into community moderation and handling of the game's modding scene. Recently, when I got sucked back into playing the game, I joined the Discord server to ask how Nitra generation in caves worked. Did it work like in RoR2 where chests and other interactables are generated based on a credit balance assigned by the stage? The DRG wiki goes into some depth on how bugs are spawned in announced swarms, but the documentation on Nitra generation left a lot to be desired, which pales in comparison to the RoR2 wiki's extensive documentation on its director system. I found that odd, because the two games have been out for maybe about the same time. Perhaps that was a sign of things to come, because I asked, and I was quickly met with someone saying, "I can't share that here, I'll send you a friend request" (paraphrased). Coming from RoR2 and other decompilation and modding heavy communities, this struck me as odd. (For the deeply curious, you can find this exchange on the official DRG Discord server here. It's fairly clear that, despite DRG being a peer-to-peer online game with a large community backing (like RoR2), without which this game would not have continued to get support, GSG has displayed animosity, or at least a lack of care, towards mod developers on multiple occasions. If you look at the top mods list on mod.io for more than two seconds, you'll find mods like Build Inspector, whose descriptions describe being punished for releasing alternatives to popular mods, the authors of which were doing genuinely user-unfriendly things, and then getting extremely unhelpful responses from GSG. It's the same ♥♥♥♥ you see in real life where people doing things that help the community are reprimanded, while hostile folks are left to do whatever they want scot-free because I dunno they're privileged or something. What if I got into modding DRG? Would I be treated with the same hostility that AssemblyStorm and other mod creators faced? I have no way of knowing, and I'm not interested in finding out, so I don't plan on making mods for this game on mod.io. Playing into GSG's modding ecosystem would do nothing positive for me. Taking microscopic ♥♥♥♥♥ on the community that made your game what it is, is not the answer. Obviously. So don't do that. Regional pricing increase for DRG and its DLCs A couple of months ago, the price of DRG and its Packs were increased in some currencies. This is in direct contrast to Rogue Core's pricing, which I'm aware is cheaper than DRG after accounting for inflation. Most likely, GSG or Coffee Stain Publishing changed the pricing to fit the updated regional pricing settings. I'm not sure why they would choose the setting that increased pricing for a lot of people. You can come to your own conclusion here, but I'm not personally a fan. "We want feedback!" said the company who doesn't want feedback I wasn't around when Core Spawn were first added to DRG in Season 5, but it seems to me like a lot of people don't like it. I'm probably a part of this camp - they don't really fit the game that well and were only really added to tie into Rogue Core. So, with most people not liking it, I find it interesting that the response to that was to add more Core Spawn in the form of a new mutator in Season 6, where Core Spawn will immediately spawn, there is irregular terrain, and the only way to stop the Core Spawn from spawning is to do the mutator that you are already now required to do anyway. I'm aware S6 was made by a different developer, but I imagine GSG still had a say in whether the final feature was okay, and GSG were the ones that made the original Core Spawn event. So GSG most likely agrees that the answer to people not liking a feature, should be to add more of that disliked feature while simultaneously exacerbating the things they didn't like about it. ...It goes without saying that this is not how feedback should work. If I were working on this, and I saw that most of my playerbase did not like a thing I added, I would have reworked or removed it. But by Karl, GSG has a vision and they're dead set on it! Even if nobody likes it! It's a stark contrast from what long-time players have been saying about DRG's early days, and that makes me even more confused; it's like GSG didn't learn their lesson from Early Access at all and are just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ around with whatever they want to do, with no regard for what their community wants. I've also seen sentiment from Rogue Core closed alpha players that their feedback went unheard. I'm not confident enough in what I've seen to say anything definitive about it, but it is a thing. And considering how Core Spawn was handled, I would not be surprised if it was true, nor if it had happened before while I wasn't playing. Finally - can you fix the netcode that you know has been broken for years, so I stop disconnecting every match??

there's no content. The game blew up, and insted of making it even better they just went to make a vampire survival rip-off AFTER the ganre lost popularity, then they made the EXACT SAME game but with some rogue-like features, sold seperatly at a full price, and the game that is/was popular gets one misson type, two overclocks and a battle pass about once per year, they gave us haz 5+ that are never worth running aside from the challange (it's unfair enemy stat slop), the only way to have fun after 200+hrs is mods. A proper guide on how to kill a game

I feel inclined to leave a review and it saddens me to leave this as a negative after so many hours dedicated to DRG. DRG is an amazing game especially with friends. This game does pretty much everything right. - It's extremely fun and even more enjoyable with friends. - I never felt myself getting bored especially after getting all the overclocks and despite the biomes being repetitive. - Being able to muck around in the lobby whilst waiting for people to join is a cornerstone of the DRG experience and the game wouldn't be the same without it. However, I'm leaving a negative review because the developers who I once held in high esteem have turned out to be very disappointing, and this started with Season 6. From memory as I have not played very often recently, Season 6 was a very long wait, as far as I know this was because Rogue Core development was the main focus. This was annoying but I understood nonetheless. Season 6 came and it was just... well there's not much to say about it. We waited all that time for one new mission type and a new biome that introduced two boring and mildy irritating enemies, particularly the scrabs, which are total ammo dumps and don't seem to leave you alone for the entirery of the mission no matter how many you kill; and worse, zero new weapon overclocks. What cemented my distaste was after all this time, after all this waiting, Rogue Core like its predecessor Survivor, turned out to be a complete flop that died almost immediately. All the time spent neglecting DRG was for nothing, and whilst I understand and accept that DRG is a complete game and we are not entitled to expect new content; it still left a sour taste in my mouth. As far as 'content' goes, the only things ever added now are new cosmetic packs and lets be honest, with the exception of a select few like Rival Tech, most of them are not that great anyway, at least in my opinion. On top of this, the only news I see concerning DRG outside of seasonal cosmetics (that aren't that great either), is yet another announcement for overpriced merch, the hilariously overpriced beer mugs that were released in the past come to mind immediately. Overall I think that GSG has lost the plot with DRG, and I've begun to question whether this was a one hit wonder, and I am very disappointed that perhaps some new DRG content was sacrificed for years(?) for two games that amounted to nothing. Despite this please don't let this discourage you from buying the game, it truly is amazing, I just cannot fathom how GSG has dropped the ball so easily.

imagine you had the keys to infinite player support and a dedicated playerbase and then the sin of greed hits you in the face, you start making terrible cosmetic dlcs that are way too expensive for whatever youre getting, people keep defending you because they just love sucking you off, so you keep doing it, and then finally, people start to notice. and you go from overwhelmingly positive, to only very positive. Ghost Ship is falling off in real time. The amount of dlc is starting to become comparable to a paradox game in its early life, its actually kind of ridiculous. Ill probably never return to this game.

Of course I have to recommend this. This is the definitive gem of Co-Op. It's not in any way competitive and promotes teamwork because this game will give you nam flashbacks on higher difficulties with the homies. Although all my progress is on Xbox. There's no cross progression. It was nice to restart. Haven't played in some time and am always pleased with my easily entertained monkey brain to find new things after all that time. This is one of the few games I would buy at full price. The devs deserve all of it. Almost all of the in cosmetics are grinded for, found at random, and purchased within the game's economy itself. DLCs? Oh yeah that's all just cosmetics, too. Really cool ones might I add. The game's procedural generation is done incredibly well. The biomes are all distinct. The little details and the soundtrack slap. I listen to it sometimes. It is satisfying to decimate the Glyphids. Whether you're looking for a nice solo game that's very pretty and the perfect mix of chaotic and calm. Maybe you want to drag some company with you. It's a pleasant and very well thought out game. There's always something new to find in the spacerig or even out on Hoxxes. 10/10 would recommend.

I actually enjoyed this game very much. But rogue core was so bad, and i felt so ripped off I'm giving this a bad review as well. Requested a refund through steam was denied so this is my next best course of action. DRG is a great game, its other game is trash....

I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole Diggy, diggy hole, diggy, diggy hole I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole Diggy, diggy hole, digging a hole

I have not had this much fun with an FPS since Killzone. Gameplay loop revolves around doing missions with varied objectives where you fight bugs/robots and gather a wide array of minerals for ammo/health replenishment and reward currency. The missions are always procedurally generated so each one feels different and fresh. Positives: - Very replayable missions with big enemy, layout and objective variety - Good gunplay and mostly well balanced - Fantastic weapon customisation systems, especially with overclocks that can completely change how a weapon functions - Strong class identity, great for us RPG lovers - Space dwarf vibes are done really well, with each biome and enemy having its flavour - Excellent sound design - Many visual customisation options and rewards to earn - Very generous pricing and no microtransactions (only several dev supporter packs), entirety of post-launch content was added for free - Plethora of difficulty options and modifiers that allow you to have fun regardless of your skill/experience with FPS games - Although it's namely a co-op game it can still be enjoyed solo with a helper bot that assists you in various ways Negatives: - There is jank (especially with player collision and some achievements) but nothing too annoying - Bad reconnect feature that does not work most of the time - Perk system is poorly designed; many are useless, Dash should have been a baseline ability and Iron Will is so much better than everything else - Some bosses are pretty meh/annoying - Cosmetics should be unlocked for every class at the same time, no reason for having to unlock the same reward four times Overall strong recommend. It's also often on sale and for that price a real steal.

Did someone say rock and stone?? Because if they did, this is a very fun game, especially if you're into PvE like me. A lot of charm has been put into this and it's well worth the money. It's often on sale too!

I've been in love with DRG ever since I joined during the Launch of Season 5. It's heavily inspired by Minecraft, Left 4 Dead and TF2, all while having its own, instantly recognizable characters, aesthetic and humour, which makes this a dream game for me that I'm kind of kicking myself for not trying sooner. All of the Classes, their tools as well as their weapons, work together in perfect harmony; add the laser pointer to the mix, and you have one of the best Co-op experiences in gaming on your hands. The social engineering done in this game through themes of camaraderie as well as actual incentive is truly something beautiful, and it has resulted in one of the warmest, most helpful, and overall most awesome communities that I've ever had the pleasure of being a part of. Deep Rock Galactic is some of the most fun I've had in years, it never fails me. It offers endless variety through the countless weapon modifications that you can unlock, and most importantly, the Overclock system. It also runs really well on most devices, comes jam-packed with 6 Seasons worth of free content with more coming in 2 months and the next year, all while coming with an absurdly low file size for just how much is in this game! I would confidently say that this game is absolutely worth the price, in fact, I paid for almost all of the cosmetic DLC because I still feel like Ghost Ship Games deserves more money than the upfront price tag for making such a wonderful game! Rock and Stone.

As a social hangout it's fine. An expensive and ugly clubhouse, it functions well enough. The gameplay is some kind of lame, but that isn't relevant when it's just friend-slop. Right? If a game can't stand on its singleplayer modes it isn't going be worth playing with friends. You should do literally anything else than play video games that rely on your friends or random strangers.

For as long as the procedurally generated maps and linear gameplay entertained me (which has been a lot of time), DRG has been a jolly good time. The four classes are distinct in arsenal and role, I found each fun to play, although they're not equally fun in combat. The available weapons and tools are *mostly* good, although I wished for more options and not all of the available options are equally competitive, leaving too much room for complacent loadouts that eventually become monotonous. It took a lot of time, though. Enjoying the gameplay means having plenty of things to experience and many cosmetics to (slowly) unlock. Bonus points for being one of those nowadays rare titles that rarely asks for more money after its purchase, and when it does it's exclusively for affordable cosmetic items. All the gameplay is readily available, which is greatly appreciated. Solid game, low price, high life expectancy. Unless you hate the gameplay loop, I recommend it.
