If you're thinking of playing The Coffin of Andy and Leyley because of the controversy circulating on social media, let me save you the trouble. I played through every route, hoping that maybe, just maybe, we were wrong about the game. Spoiler alert: we weren’t. So here are the answers to the questions you may have, without you having to give a single cent to the creator. No, this isn’t a game about cannibalism and murder with one incest scene that social media overreacted to. This is an incest game, with a few scenes of cannibalism and murder thrown in. Regardless of the choices you make, even on the so-called “correct” route with the cliffhanger ending (still in development), you’re forced to witness these two depraved siblings kiss against your own will. It’s inescapable. Infuriated doesn’t even begin to describe how I felt, followed by a massive eye roll and an audible groan. Fans claim this game is “well-written,” but what exactly are they referring to? They always mention “the story” or “the plot” as if those are separate from the incest that is forced down your throat. No matter what path you take, it always leads back to the same outcome: an incestuous relationship. Your choices barely matter. Not that that's an issue, but the illusion of choice is great when it's done right. Yes, it’s marketed as a psychological horror game. But let’s be honest: no outstanding psychological horror glorifies its dark themes, especially not while trying to be “i'm so quirky uwu.” That tone undermines any serious commentary the game might’ve been attempting, and the creator herself doesn't even try to hide her romanticisation of this type of relationship. (The 'Cry about it' update? Cringe. Grown woman by the way.) Ashley, the most liked character in the "fandom", is possibly the most insufferable part of the game. She’s a manipulative sociopath with an inbreeding kink, emotionally abusive tendencies, made Andrew's life an unbearable living hell (His physical outburst on her in that one scene is the only justifiable thing in the game), and is overall the reason why everything spirals out of control and goes horribly wrong. Yet again, all wrapped up in an "i'm so quirky uwu" package. I physically cringe and could feel my blood pressure rising every time her and her dialogue appeared on my godforsaken screen. And let’s be real here, if she wasn’t conventionally attractive as an "i'm so quirky uwu" goth girl, the fandom wouldn’t like and defend her the way they do. But they’re too busy drawing Andrew x Ashley rule 34 and arguing in comment sections about how incest is “pivotal to the plot” to talk about that right now. Frankly, none of the characters are likeable, except maybe Julia, who is the only sane character in the game. Once you finish all the routes, there’s no replay value. It’s a one-and-done experience, after which you’ll probably delete the game from your library and try to gaslight yourself into believing that you never spent $25 AUD to watch an animated fanfic of two siblings kissing and having sex, with a sprinkle of cannibalism and murder here and there to pretend that the game is more than what it is. The only redeeming qualities? The humour (I’ll admit the creator has a great sense of it), the art style (very pretty), the simple puzzles, and the catchy soundtrack. Sadly, that’s it. Honestly, calling this a “psychological horror” feels like a tad bit of a stretch. The only real horror I experienced was when Ashley’s pregnancy test came back positive. Yeah, you read that correctly. If you want an insightful breakdown, I highly recommend watching “The Coffin of Andy and Leyley and Lazy Shock Content” by CD-Call on Youtube, easily one of the best video essays on the topic. It's a shame. I purchased this game with the intent of going into it with an open mind. I didn't go into it with a preconceived notion or "ready to hate" as they say. I really, really did want to be proven wrong. Unless Chapter 4 drops with a continuation of the cliffhanger and the creator pulls a complete 180 with some actual plot depth, I stand by everything I’ve said. If that miraculous rewrite does happen, I will happily delete this review. Overall, if you’re expecting a profound message or meaningful plot from this game, don’t bother. If you’re morbidly curious or just want to see what the fuss is about, fine. But don’t say I didn’t warn you.

10/10 would recommend this game to my brother if I had one. Played this game over a year ago when it released it's first chapters and never left a review. Jumped back in to play chapter 3 today and remembered why I loved this game. Does it involve cannibalism, Yes. Does it involve satanic cults, Yes. Does it involve incest, also Yes. But I can't help but love these two main characters. This game is dark and hilarious, with a gorgeous art style and cozy but creepy puzzles. There is a reason why the people who have actually played it have rated it Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam despite the hate it gets online. It really is just known as that Incest game on Twitter but this psychological horror is so much more. I still have hours of gameplay left to get all the endings (which I will do) A bit of IRL lore for anyone joining this game after it's initial popular release: The author of this game was unfortunately doxxed and received numerous threats resulting in her selling the game to Kit9 Studio for her own physical and mental safety. She still as far as we're aware has zero internet presence, which is truly sad that she was pushed so far over a piece of fiction. The original author has continued to be the artist and writer for this game but Kit9 handle the programming.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (with a content warning) This game. Woof. Where do I even start? The Coffin of Andy and Leyley is not an easy ride. I had to take quite a few breaks just to make it through. Not because it’s poorly made, quite the opposite, but rather, because it cuts close to the bone. This is a story of emotional rot, trauma bonds, and the grotesque transformation of unhealed attachment wounds. While Ashley’s dialogue options were, admittedly, my least favorite part of the gameplay (she’s a freaking ditz), the writing as a whole does a disturbingly effective job at illustrating the psychological tug-of-war between an anxious-leaning codependent and an avoidant-leaning codependent. It’s not pretty. It’s not clean. And that’s exactly what makes it powerful. The elements that hit hardest were the mother: a controlling, narcissistic figure saturated in martyrdom—and the father, whose emotional absence is deafening. The eldest child is crushed under generational expectations while being held to staggeringly high standards, while the youngest is allowed to spiral into unchecked chaos. For anyone raised in similar dynamics, this part feels less like fiction and more like a deeply haunted mirror. Does the game take the implications of childhood trauma to horrifying extremes? Absolutely. And yet, those extremes work—they force confrontation. The manipulation, sabotage, obsession, and passive cruelty between Andy and Leyley are sickening because they’re real. Just turned up to 11. But what makes this experience so unforgettable isn’t just the discomfort—it’s the clarity. This game shows you exactly what happens when no one does the inner work. When self-awareness is replaced with mutated survival tactics. When love is fused with manipulation, control, fear, and dependency. I only wish there had been a third character representing the fearful avoidant style: someone oscillating between both extremes, which would’ve added even more psychological nuance. All that said: I highly recommend this game. Just know that if you’ve experienced trauma, especially within a dysfunctional family system or toxic codependency, it can hit very hard. But it’s also a rare piece of media that doesn’t flinch. It doesn’t sugarcoat. It stares directly into the abyss….and dares you to do the same.

The Coffin of Andy and Leyley is a psychological horror adventure that stands apart through its disturbing character relationships, grim humor, and willingness to explore morally uncomfortable situations. Developed and published by Kit9 Studio, it follows siblings Andrew and Ashley Graves as desperation, isolation, and their unhealthy dependence on each other lead them toward increasingly horrific choices. Instead of presenting a straightforward battle between heroes and villains, the story focuses on deeply flawed protagonists whose actions frequently make them as troubling as the circumstances surrounding them. The strongest element is the relationship between Andrew and Ashley. Their conversations constantly shift between affection, resentment, manipulation, jealousy, hostility, and dependence. Ashley is often impulsive and dangerously possessive, while Andrew appears more restrained but remains tangled in the same destructive relationship. Watching their personalities collide gives the narrative much of its momentum. The game gradually reveals pieces of their past while showing how their current circumstances intensify problems that existed long before the central events began. Gameplay is deliberately uncomplicated and primarily exists to support the narrative. Players explore environments, inspect objects, collect useful items, participate in conversations, and solve relatively accessible puzzles. Control occasionally shifts between the siblings, allowing situations to be viewed from slightly different perspectives. Anyone expecting elaborate combat, demanding survival mechanics, or complex RPG progression will find the mechanical side fairly limited. However, the simplicity works well for a game primarily interested in dialogue, atmosphere, decisions, and character development. Player choice becomes more significant as the story progresses. Decisions can influence particular events and eventually contribute to different narrative routes and endings. These choices are especially interesting because there is rarely a comfortable moral foundation from which to make them. The protagonists are already capable of terrible behavior, so decisions often concern how far their relationship and circumstances will deteriorate rather than whether they will become traditional heroes. This branching structure also provides replay value because alternative decisions can reveal scenes, conversations, and consequences that might otherwise remain unseen. The horror relies heavily on subject matter rather than constant jump scares. Murder, cannibalism, supernatural rituals, dysfunctional family relationships, psychological manipulation, violence, and other unsettling themes contribute to an atmosphere that can become genuinely uncomfortable. Dark comedy frequently interrupts the tension, creating an unusual contrast between horrifying events and casual or sarcastic conversations. That tonal combination is one of the game's defining qualities. Some players will appreciate its unapologetically provocative approach, while others may find its themes deliberately excessive or unpleasant. Its visual presentation complements this unusual tone exceptionally well. Character artwork is expressive and gives conversations personality without requiring elaborate animation. Facial expressions can turn otherwise simple exchanges into memorable moments of comedy, hostility, or menace. Environments are comparatively modest, but their confined spaces strengthen the feeling that Andrew and Ashley are trapped both physically and emotionally. The stylized presentation allows disturbing scenes to remain impactful without depending entirely on realistic gore. The game's biggest weakness is that its interactive systems are much less ambitious than its storytelling. Exploration can occasionally feel like transportation between conversations, while puzzles are generally more concerned with maintaining pacing than seriously challenging the player. Those who approach it primarily as an adventure game may wish there were more elaborate mechanics. Players who treat it as an interactive psychological drama are more likely to appreciate why the gameplay remains relatively restrained. Another consideration is its episodic structure and ongoing development. The experience has been designed around multiple episodes, meaning the broader story is not simply a short self-contained narrative. This can make major revelations and unresolved character developments feel intentionally incomplete while later portions of the story remain part of the larger development plan. For players heavily invested in Andrew and Ashley's fate, waiting for the complete narrative may be more frustrating than the mechanical limitations themselves. Steam Deck compatibility is a notable advantage. The game is officially Steam Deck Verified, with its core functionality working through the handheld's controls and its interface remaining usable on the smaller display. Controller prompts and general navigation are appropriately supported, while the game can run using settings suitable for the device. Its viewpoint and methodical pacing also translate naturally to portable play, although demanding visual settings can still make sensible performance adjustments worthwhile for players prioritizing battery life or consistent performance. The Coffin of Andy and Leyley ultimately succeeds because its identity is unusually strong. It does not need complicated mechanics to remain memorable because its characters, uncomfortable themes, expressive artwork, branching decisions, and pitch-black humor carry the experience. Its subject matter unquestionably limits its audience, and players wanting sophisticated puzzles or action will probably find the gameplay too basic. For those interested in unconventional psychological horror and character-driven stories about deeply dysfunctional people, however, it offers something remarkably distinctive. Rating: 9/10

OK HEAR ME OUT PLEASE. Yes yes this game is the funny cannibalism incest game but - it is seriously good. I mean i just played with chapter 3's release, and if it was just 1 & 2 I can see why people didn't like it. The first 2 by themselves - eh. It gets much better. And while many criticisms are VERY valid, i feel like if you have media literacy you can see that NO Andrew's and Ashley's relationship is not healthy or promoted, its actually an alright depiction of toxic codepedency. Also I kin Julia she is adorable and I hate Ashley and Andrew is alright. but... do NOT play it if you don't like dark topics... like... um... its bad.

don't you just hate it when people can't understand media that portrays toxic situations or dynamics? i do. that's how a lot of people view this game. in**st aside, actually, no. many people will see this game as "disgusting" or "in**st" f*t*shy, but i don't see it that way. it's a psychological horror, the toxic and co-dependent relationship andrew and ashley have make the entire game. yes, you're allowed to find it weird and uncomfortable, but i honestly believe that it's essential for the game's theme when it comes to furthuring the story. two siblings, traumatized and bonded together, while it can be executed normally, i believe the dynamic of their relationship helps sell the game. they are so co dependent on eachother, especially ashley, that the choices they come up with in the game makes sense when you look at their relationship. there's no clear "ab**er" in the relationship, like there usually is in these situations. while ashley is more persistent and open about her toxicity and obsession towards her brother, andrew still plays along with the idea of co-dependency they have, never fully stopping it or shutting it down. he chooses her over others, twirls her hair, holds her, treats her like a partner, and projects her onto julia. he's just as co-dependent as leyley. and this fact really portrays that as time goes on, they become more trauma bonded due to the bind they started as children, the shared trauma, mixed with the quarantining, which leads to the progression of the relationship. this game is amazing when it comes to the psychological aspect, and the gameplay is so fun and easy to navigate once you get the hang of it. anyone whos interested in dark stories like this, i suggest you check this out.

Absolutely love this game. It really shows how bad isolation, mental illness, and neglect can change a person. 10/10 gameplay as well, I love the storyline. I do wish i received more choices and options though!

It's really good. I thought the edginess would turn me off, but the game carries itself with the right amount of lightheartedness. I love the art, meaning both the drawing style as well as the dark but strangely homely setting. The world feels oddly charming and lived in. The relationship between the two main characters flows really well; the dialogue and chemistry feel natural, and their dynamic being so bittersweet makes it interesting. The often present subtle comedy fits well and doesn't distract. The gameplay and puzzle aspects aren't remotely challenging, but in a sense they feel more like an opportunity to explore ideas in the way you interact with items and environments, as opposed being puzzles for the sake of being puzzles. I can imagine some people find them a rather boring form of story engagement, but I liked the process of slowly unlocking the scene. This is one of those games where the vision as a whole is very cohesive and the developer succeeds in showing you a part of their mind, letting you explore it. It feels primarily like someone's emotions, their daydream, and in any case their personal vision, more than it feels like a video game. For that alone, it succeeds as a piece of art, and it being fun is really just a big bonus. I really recommend it :)

The Coffin of Andy and Leyley is a very... interesting game. It's a game that doesn't try to make its themes likeable, and that almost makes it more compelling in a way. At its core, it's just a psychological horror RPG centered on two deeply dysfunctional siblings. But it doesn't focus on external threats or survival mechanics like other RPGs, instead it focuses on the disturbing bond between the two main characters, Andrew and Ashley. It's a relational horror rather than a supernatural or tension based horror. Visually, the game is lovely. The art done by Nemlei is simple but absolutely delectable (Whatever Ashley tryna get into, IM tryna get into!!!) And I think that makes the game more unsettling. The cute, appealing character sprites contrasting the morally disturbing choices the game has you witness or make adds a level of juxtaposition that makes such a disgusting game almost more palatable. But what I think is the most striking part of the game is the writing of each character. The dialogue is well written at most points (Though there is occasionally wedged in pieces of conversation that seem added just to set up a joke or sound edgy, which personally I didn't mind much while playing.) The dynamic between Andrew and Ashley is the centrepiece, and it is incredibly toxic and codependent. And what makes it most disturbing is how believable a lot of it is. The game doesn't really hold your hand during the uncomfortable moments, it drops it on you and expects you to sit with it. That said, the game is absolutely not for everyone. As someone who is rarely shaken by sensitive topics or disturbing visuals/narratives, this game had a few moments where I had to sit back for a moment and take a breather. The themes are very heavy and provocative at times. Some people might find the narrative direction a bit excessive or exploitative, and the pacing can be slow at times if you're not prepared for it. Overall, The Coffin of Andy and Leyley succeeds in my opinion. It commits to what it tries to portray, not hiding away the taboo topics it's known for, or soften it's edges to appeal to a broader audience. If you're looking for conventional horror, this isn't what to buy. But if you love narrative-driven games and are fine with putting up with some disturbing psychological territory, it's definitely a memorable and bold game that's worth trying. When I played, we voice acted with some friends. If you think you can handle the game, get 2 main voice actors, and a supporting cast of pals, and enjoy TCOAAL.

(If you have a problem with murder, cannibalism, and incest then this is not for you.) yes, I f**king love this game. no, I don't care abt the themes. I bought this game thinking it was going to be just a little "scary" story without any dept and oh was I wrong. The writing this game has it's just one the best I've ever seen. The art style it's amazing and goes so well with the theme. The game isn't really about gameplay or being hard to beat, so don't expect much from there because the puzzles are very easy. What really makes up for it it's not only the story, but the choices you can make and how much they change the game. a little spoiler warning: no matter what choice you make, the siblings in this game like each other. yes, exactly the way you're thinking. and I'm so tired of prudes bashing this game just because of that when that's the first thing anyone will tell you about it before you buy it. their relationship is so complex and amazing but it's definitely not for people who want a cute love story without the inbreeding so yeah stay away if you're bothered by that.

It's absurd that this game is overwhelmingly positive on steam. This is one of the worst games I've ever played in my life. The story is all edgy themes and shock value, it feels like there's no real message here, just a need to be edgy and different, with every step the narrative takes being towards something taboo. The "dark comedy" is just 12 year old edge lord humor, and the "gameplay" is so extremely boring, just a normal visual novel engine with repetitive puzzles (the "puzzles" are usually just "pick up item and bring it somewhere"). I understand it's a visual novel, but games with a lack of good gameplay usually have a good story or a gimmick (ex. ddlc's meta narrative) to make up for it. And the cherry on top, are unnecessary incestual themes.

The Coffin of Andy and Leyley

I'll start with saying, this game isn't for everybody, and it isn't perfect. It's prose is at times poorly written, its dialogue sometimes so edgy you want to recoil into a shell and hide, lest your 16-year-old self return from the forgotten corners of your mind. But the most interesting part -- the best written part -- of this game, is Ashley and Andrew, and their codependent, transient relationship. It is the most realistic I have seen a relationship like this written. They will argue over the smallest things, not once caring about those things, but they have these underlying emotions they don't realize they have, and they don't know how to unpack them, so they scream and they yell. They get nasty -- familiarly nasty, if you've ever been in a relationship like what tcoaal depicts. And then they'll calm down, if only for a moment, and apologize, if only for the moment, and show love, genuine love; if only for a moment. And for a short time, everything is okay. And then it happens again, and you -- and they -- realize, it never was. This game depicts a very specific kind of toxic relationship. For all its flaws; the occasionally oddly worded prose, the sometimes overly edgy dialogue, the often nonexistent gameplay; what pushes through the cracks, time and time again, is a clear sense that the author understands the relationship they're writing about. I wouldn't be surprised if that understanding is from practical experience. This doesn't feel like a story written because someone wanted to write it. It feels like a story written because someone *had* to write it. It tore my heart out, and plucked its veins like harp strings. I can't wait for future chapters.
