If you're thinking of playing The Coffin of Andy and Leyley because of the controversy circulating on social media, let me save you the trouble. I played through every route, hoping that maybe, just maybe, we were wrong about the game. Spoiler alert: we weren’t. So here are the answers to the questions you may have, without you having to give a single cent to the creator. No, this isn’t a game about cannibalism and murder with one incest scene that social media overreacted to. This is an incest game, with a few scenes of cannibalism and murder thrown in. Regardless of the choices you make, even on the so-called “correct” route with the cliffhanger ending (still in development), you’re forced to witness these two depraved siblings kiss against your own will. It’s inescapable. Infuriated doesn’t even begin to describe how I felt, followed by a massive eye roll and an audible groan. Fans claim this game is “well-written,” but what exactly are they referring to? They always mention “the story” or “the plot” as if those are separate from the incest that is forced down your throat. No matter what path you take, it always leads back to the same outcome: an incestuous relationship. Your choices barely matter. Not that that's an issue, but the illusion of choice is great when it's done right. Yes, it’s marketed as a psychological horror game. But let’s be honest: no outstanding psychological horror glorifies its dark themes, especially not while trying to be “i'm so quirky uwu.” That tone undermines any serious commentary the game might’ve been attempting, and the creator herself doesn't even try to hide her romanticisation of this type of relationship. (The 'Cry about it' update? Cringe. Grown woman by the way.) Ashley, the most liked character in the "fandom", is possibly the most insufferable part of the game. She’s a manipulative sociopath with an inbreeding kink, emotionally abusive tendencies, made Andrew's life an unbearable living hell (His physical outburst on her in that one scene is the only justifiable thing in the game), and is overall the reason why everything spirals out of control and goes horribly wrong. Yet again, all wrapped up in an "i'm so quirky uwu" package. I physically cringe and could feel my blood pressure rising every time her and her dialogue appeared on my godforsaken screen. And let’s be real here, if she wasn’t conventionally attractive as an "i'm so quirky uwu" goth girl, the fandom wouldn’t like and defend her the way they do. But they’re too busy drawing Andrew x Ashley rule 34 and arguing in comment sections about how incest is “pivotal to the plot” to talk about that right now. Frankly, none of the characters are likeable, except maybe Julia, who is the only sane character in the game. Once you finish all the routes, there’s no replay value. It’s a one-and-done experience, after which you’ll probably delete the game from your library and try to gaslight yourself into believing that you never spent $25 AUD to watch an animated fanfic of two siblings kissing and having sex, with a sprinkle of cannibalism and murder here and there to pretend that the game is more than what it is. The only redeeming qualities? The humour (I’ll admit the creator has a great sense of it), the art style (very pretty), the simple puzzles, and the catchy soundtrack. Sadly, that’s it. Honestly, calling this a “psychological horror” feels like a tad bit of a stretch. The only real horror I experienced was when Ashley’s pregnancy test came back positive. Yeah, you read that correctly. If you want an insightful breakdown, I highly recommend watching “The Coffin of Andy and Leyley and Lazy Shock Content” by CD-Call on Youtube, easily one of the best video essays on the topic. It's a shame. I purchased this game with the intent of going into it with an open mind. I didn't go into it with a preconceived notion or "ready to hate" as they say. I really, really did want to be proven wrong. Unless Chapter 4 drops with a continuation of the cliffhanger and the creator pulls a complete 180 with some actual plot depth, I stand by everything I’ve said. If that miraculous rewrite does happen, I will happily delete this review. Overall, if you’re expecting a profound message or meaningful plot from this game, don’t bother. If you’re morbidly curious or just want to see what the fuss is about, fine. But don’t say I didn’t warn you.

This game is incredible. If you think its just an "incest game" you're very wrong. The writing, the lore, the psychological horror... its genius. Before you hate on it, please please actually WATCH OR PLAY the damn game. This has to be my favorite game to date, seriously cannot wait to see whats to come.

Yep, it contains incest. There's also hours of really well written dialogue, characters, and relationships that twist and turn from just simply codependent to some of the most rancid toxic interactions that are somehow still believable. Every character has unique flaws that are tee'd up in the numerous flashbacks and visions, and lead towards their inevitable downfalls caused by the player's choices or natural game progression. There's also incest. At no point does the relationship between Andrew and Ashley ever seem like it was ever healthy, and Nemlei portrays both of the siblings acting in abhorrent ways, emotionally or physically abusing each other, and all of that toxicity and vitriol culminates in the most brutal, in your face depiction of why nothing about either of the siblings are anything to be desired. But yes, there's incest, because of that theme, the state of the game hangs in the balance, as censorship and fearmongering push ever so closer for adult games to be either banished entirely or softened enough so it may never taint the brains of the children who's parents likely sat them in front of a TV or tablet before they could even read. Public perception and media coverage has warped what this game truly is, obviously the community does it no favors, but that's just simply a fact of any popular media with even an inkling of a fandom. If you like this game or are interested in checking it out, or just want to support the author/developer/artist, do it! It's absolutely a gem of a dark story with hilarious and/or horrific moments.

The Coffin of Andy and Leyley is one of those games that is incredibly easy to misunderstand if you judge it entirely by its surface. At first glance, it appears to be an intentionally provocative horror game built around two deeply dysfunctional siblings, cannibalism, murder, cults, demons, disturbing imagery, and deliberately uncomfortable implications. Because of that, it is extremely easy to dismiss it as nothing more than shock value. I think that interpretation misses what makes the game genuinely interesting. Beneath all of the controversy, gore, taboo subjects, and outrageous moments, The Coffin of Andy and Leyley is fundamentally a character study about codependency, isolation, resentment, trauma, abandonment, morality, dependency, and the terrifying possibility that two people can become so psychologically dependent on one another that the relationship which gives them comfort eventually becomes the very thing trapping them. That central relationship between Andrew and Ashley is easily the strongest part of the game, because neither character can be reduced to a simple role. It would have been incredibly easy to write Andrew as the innocent, rational brother trapped with an obviously unstable sister, but the game repeatedly complicates that interpretation. Andrew can resent Ashley while still being deeply attached to her, recognise that their relationship is unhealthy while continuing to participate in it, and desire independence while simultaneously being terrified of losing the person who has become such a fundamental part of his life. Ashley is similarly complicated. She is vulnerable, insecure, lonely, terrified of abandonment, and desperate for affection, but she is also manipulative, selfish, cruel, possessive, and capable of using her vulnerability to influence Andrew. What makes her interesting is that the game does not force you to choose between seeing her as a victim or a monster. She can genuinely suffer while also causing suffering. Her trauma can explain her behaviour without automatically excusing it, and that is a much more interesting approach to character writing than simply making her evil because she is mentally unstable. Her greatest fear seems to be abandonment, and that fear gradually becomes destructive because she wants something impossible: absolute certainty that Andrew will never leave her. The more frightened she becomes of losing him, the more controlling she can become, and the more controlling she becomes, the more unhealthy their relationship gets. That creates a cycle where both characters reinforce the worst aspects of each other. Andrew and Ashley are therefore not simply two bad people doing bad things together. They are two people who have become psychologically intertwined to such an extent that separating affection, fear, obligation, resentment, and dependency becomes almost impossible. This is where I think the concept of codependency becomes the central theme of the entire game. As their connection to the outside world deteriorates, their dependence on one another grows stronger. The less they have, the more important the other becomes. Eventually, the relationship starts functioning almost like an addiction. They can recognise that it is destroying them while still believing that losing it would be even worse. That contradiction is what makes their relationship genuinely disturbing. The horror is not simply that they care about each other in an unhealthy way. It is that their identities and survival have become so connected that the idea of existing separately becomes almost unimaginable. I also think the title itself has a surprisingly strong metaphorical interpretation. A coffin is something that encloses a person completely, leaving them unable to escape. Andrew and Ashley's relationship can be interpreted in exactly the same way. They protect one another from the outside world, but that protection also prevents them from escaping the environment they have created together. They are each other's shelter and each other's prison. The coffin can therefore represent more than physical death. It can represent emotional entombment, where a person is still alive but has become trapped inside a relationship, identity, or cycle that they no longer know how to escape. This interpretation makes the title much more meaningful than it initially appears. The game's treatment of morality is another one of its most interesting aspects. Andrew and Ashley repeatedly encounter situations where survival appears to require increasingly immoral decisions. This creates an obvious question about whether survival can justify crossing moral boundaries, but I think the more interesting question is what happens after the original justification disappears. Once someone crosses a boundary, crossing the next one can become easier. Eventually, a person may stop thinking of their behaviour as something terrible that they were forced to do and start accepting it as part of who they are. Cannibalism works particularly well as a symbol for this deterioration because it represents the destruction of one of the most fundamental boundaries between human beings. Another person becomes a resource for survival. The distinction between human and object, friend and enemy, or self and other begins to collapse. It is obviously intended to be horrifying, but it also works as a representation of the way Andrew and Ashley's morality gradually becomes distorted. The supernatural elements can be interpreted similarly. Demons, rituals, and other supernatural forces provide literal horror, but they can also function as external representations of psychological corruption. The characters' inner deterioration is reflected in the increasingly disturbing world around them. I do think the supernatural side of the story is somewhat weaker than the psychological side, though. Andrew and Ashley are already disturbing enough without needing supernatural explanations for everything. Whenever the story focuses on their relationship, it feels much more personal and unsettling. Whenever the supernatural elements become the primary source of horror, some of that psychological tension can disappear. However, the symbolism still gives those elements value, especially when they reflect the characters' loss of control over themselves. Another major strength is the game's willingness to make its protagonists genuinely unpleasant. A lot of stories want their protagonists to be easy to like, but The Coffin of Andy and Leyley does not seem particularly interested in doing that. Andrew and Ashley can be selfish, manipulative, pathetic, cruel, funny, vulnerable, and horrifying, sometimes within the same sequence. That makes them far more interesting to analyse than characters who can be neatly classified as heroes or villains. Importantly, understanding them does not require excusing them. You can understand why Ashley fears abandonment without defending what she does because of that fear. You can understand Andrew's dependency without pretending that he has no responsibility for his choices. That moral ambiguity is one of the game's greatest strengths because it makes the player think about responsibility instead of simply assigning blame. The game also uses dark comedy surprisingly effectively. Considering how disturbing the subject matter can become, constant seriousness would probably make the experience exhausting. The humour gives Andrew and Ashley personality and creates tonal contrast. Watching them casually joke or argue about ordinary things in the middle of horrific circumstances shows how completely their situation has become normal to them. That normalisation can actually make the horror worse. The game is at its best when its disturbing material serves its characters and themes instead of existing only to shock the player. That is why, despite its flaws, I think it deserves an 8.5/10: deeply flawed, provocative, memorable, and genuinely fascinating imo.

"Suddenly, you understand why people join cults." This game isn't for everyone, and sometimes it feels like the story is checking off a list of taboo topics just for the sake of it. It's extremely edgy, and if that's not your cup of tea, that's perfectly okay. With that in mind, the main characters are both deeply disturbed. As the story progresses, their morals continually erode, and they spiral into committing increasingly depraved acts. As you learn more about them, you start to read between the lines and see how their past experiences and traumas shaped their current behavior. What makes the game really interesting to me is that both characters are unreliable narrators, making it difficult to tell where the influence of their environment ends and their own personalities begin. They blame their upbringing for their behavior—which makes sense in some ways—yet they continue to do awful things without taking accountability. They know their actions are wrong, but don't know how to stop or how to be saved "Suddenly, you understand why people join cults." Yeah, it's over-the-top edgy and outrageous, but beneath it all is deceptively complex and compelling character writing that most games are too afraid to touch. Ignore the controversy and problematic parts of the community—if this sounds appealing to you, I'd recommend giving the game a chance

10/10 would recommend this game to my brother if I had one. Played this game over a year ago when it released it's first chapters and never left a review. Jumped back in to play chapter 3 today and remembered why I loved this game. Does it involve cannibalism, Yes. Does it involve satanic cults, Yes. Does it involve incest, also Yes. But I can't help but love these two main characters. This game is dark and hilarious, with a gorgeous art style and cozy but creepy puzzles. There is a reason why the people who have actually played it have rated it Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam despite the hate it gets online. It really is just known as that Incest game on Twitter but this psychological horror is so much more. I still have hours of gameplay left to get all the endings (which I will do) A bit of IRL lore for anyone joining this game after it's initial popular release: The author of this game was unfortunately doxxed and received numerous threats resulting in her selling the game to Kit9 Studio for her own physical and mental safety. She still as far as we're aware has zero internet presence, which is truly sad that she was pushed so far over a piece of fiction. The original author has continued to be the artist and writer for this game but Kit9 handle the programming.

Alright. So to preface, I played this game with my partner, and I fully voice acted about 18 hours of it for her. Man... where to begin. First of all, let me state that you should NOT consider voice acting this ♥♥♥♥, or else it'll mess with your mental for a bit. And that's because these two inseparable siblings are so unbelievably cooked in the head, that getting into character for them is going to leave you just as baked-- actually burnt, completely to a crisp, an ash-black akin to the shade of their irreparable souls. Secondly, the writing is so stomach-turningly good that you SHOULD feel sick to your gut at points in the story. And if you don't feel anything, well then buddy do I have some shocking news for you. In conclusion, it's a great psychological horror game to pick up that's still in active development, that's worth playing through twice or thrice-- and then disowning to the darkest depths of your steam library (where these two idiots belong).

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (with a content warning) This game. Woof. Where do I even start? The Coffin of Andy and Leyley is not an easy ride. I had to take quite a few breaks just to make it through. Not because it’s poorly made, quite the opposite, but rather, because it cuts close to the bone. This is a story of emotional rot, trauma bonds, and the grotesque transformation of unhealed attachment wounds. While Ashley’s dialogue options were, admittedly, my least favorite part of the gameplay (she’s a freaking ditz), the writing as a whole does a disturbingly effective job at illustrating the psychological tug-of-war between an anxious-leaning codependent and an avoidant-leaning codependent. It’s not pretty. It’s not clean. And that’s exactly what makes it powerful. The elements that hit hardest were the mother: a controlling, narcissistic figure saturated in martyrdom—and the father, whose emotional absence is deafening. The eldest child is crushed under generational expectations while being held to staggeringly high standards, while the youngest is allowed to spiral into unchecked chaos. For anyone raised in similar dynamics, this part feels less like fiction and more like a deeply haunted mirror. Does the game take the implications of childhood trauma to horrifying extremes? Absolutely. And yet, those extremes work—they force confrontation. The manipulation, sabotage, obsession, and passive cruelty between Andy and Leyley are sickening because they’re real. Just turned up to 11. But what makes this experience so unforgettable isn’t just the discomfort—it’s the clarity. This game shows you exactly what happens when no one does the inner work. When self-awareness is replaced with mutated survival tactics. When love is fused with manipulation, control, fear, and dependency. I only wish there had been a third character representing the fearful avoidant style: someone oscillating between both extremes, which would’ve added even more psychological nuance. All that said: I highly recommend this game. Just know that if you’ve experienced trauma, especially within a dysfunctional family system or toxic codependency, it can hit very hard. But it’s also a rare piece of media that doesn’t flinch. It doesn’t sugarcoat. It stares directly into the abyss….and dares you to do the same.

I love this game, but I feel like it is very badly represented. Not even because of the whole incest thing, but just the overall context and style is totally different from how it is portrayed online. I added a few spoiler censors just in case you want to go in 100% blind, but they're all very general and early stuff that you'll see an hour or less into the game at most. Number 1; people describe this game as if you are going to feel like you're actually participating in a demon ritual the whole time. That couldn't be farther from the truth, at least in my opinion. The "rituals" are honestly so over the top and stereotypical horror that they aren't scary, more just goofy. The cultists are constantly and clearly presented as morons, and the demon is clearly presented as an evil manipulator. So if you're worried this is going to be one of those things that feels unironically occult and presents the literal devil as a great guy, this game is absolutely NOT that. Number 2; You've probably heard this game described as something along the lines of "brother and sister get trapped in their apartment after the parents abandon them, they start practicing cannibalism to survive." That might technically be a correct description, but it's quite misleading. This description makes it sound like the entire game is set in this apartment and the siblings like, literally hunt down dozens of neighbors for food. In reality, the games setting moves on from the apartment less than an hour in, and they only ever eat one human meal. The main emotional driver in the story is NOT all the bad things the siblings do, but the siblings' relationship with each other as they do it. I think the game is clearly written this way intentionally, take for example the fact that any crimes the siblings commit in the present are shown in a way that that they seem unimportant (or less important than they should) or routine to the two, but anytime you have a flashback to the siblings' childhood, or they have a long conversation in the present, emphasis is put on even some very small details. I don't consider this a horror game, or a crime game, I think it's more of an angsty-comedy. Of course this is just how I take it, you might feel totally different, but we're all welcome to our own opinions. I'm not even going to lie because I know 90% of people here did the same, I got this game because I have a slightly morbid sense of humor, and also because I thought certain characters were... attractive. But I stayed because of the story. Not even joking. I only have a few very minor issues. -you can't rename saves -things you can interact with sometimes aren't obvious until you're right by them, so you have to search a bit.

First of all, the people saying "the incest is only in one route," are lying, and purposefully ignoring a core part of the games themes to make it seem better to an outside viewer. There are incestuous undertones throughout the entire game, as it is a core part of the games message and narrative. It is not fetish content, and it is not gratuitous. Andrew and Ashley are very nuanced and well written characters who are a product of their environment, and there is a good explanation behind everything they do. I just wanted to say that since that is the largest thing I have heard people say about this game. Besides that, the dialogue is good, if cringy at times. The art style is great, and the soundtrack is actually really good. This game is meant to make you uncomfortable, and it does it in a very mature and unique way.

Honestly i think this game is really misunderstood. A lot of people seem to reduce tcoaal to the incest aspect and completely overlook everything else that this game has to offer. Enjoying the game doesn't mean you support everything the characters do. It's fiction, and it's completely possible to appreciate the writing and themes without agreeing with what the characters do. This is definitely not a game for everyone, but if you look past the controversy, there's genuinely a lot more to tcoaal than people give it credit for lmao

Came for the wincest, stayed for the surprisingly well written dialogue EDIT: I haven't had a game make me reflect so hard on myself... not even close. If you had neglectful parents, you need to buy this game. If that neglect caused you to get into codependent relationships to fill the void, buy a copy for a friend too. IF ALL OF THE ABOVE ARE TRUE AND YOU BECAME PERFORMATIVE AND/OR SUBSERVIENT IN YOUR FUTURE RELATIONSHIPS TO "MAKE UP FOR IT" OR TO SUBCONSCIOUSLY DISTANCE YOURSELF FROM THEM BECAUSE YOU'RE SCARED OF YOURSELF, then just buy one copy and have the friend close by while you play it; you may have a lot to get off your chest. I couldn't shut up after finishing all the bad endings. I have too much in common with the undertones of this story and I have been sick to my stomach thinking about it for the past couple days. On a less indulgent note, the presentation is top notch and you'd be hard pressed to find characters who feel this tangible in pretty much any form of media. Every interaction feels like it makes sense, and every branching path lets you feel the spite or cursed whimsy that led to the different reactions or dialogue from the main characters. It's not your typical cryptic edgy visual novel by any means. In my opinion, it's unprecedented, but maybe I haven't played enough modern VNs to really know. BTW the wincest is NOT glorified at ALL and mostly serves as a plot point to illustrate a long term and insidious codependent relationship (as well as being one hell of an attention grabber).
