This was my first time playing Nioh, meaning I haven't played the previous parts. I really didn't know what to expect but I'm really happy I decided to buy this game. Definitely one of the best games I've ever played. They really put some effort in making this story, the surroundings, the character designs and even the outfits to get a real traditional Japanese feeling. The missions, the exploring and the collecting of every item available is so much fun...and it's really nice to see yourself grow in strength and skill througout the gameplay. Clearing out areas or camps with enemies or defeating waves of bosses is very thrilling and well designed. A really nice feature, for when you're struggling...is to summon a visitor (or 2), real people who like to help others...so if you want some help defeating that hard boss...that might be an option. However...if you like the challenge and want to become really powerful and skilled, you could try to take down the bosses on your own. I really like that the game let's you decide the difficulty for yourself this way. When I finished the game in Heir's journey I learned that a new game mode was available to turn things up a notch, The Shogun's Journey. At first I was sceptical but they made it very attractive to play the harder gamemode as well. So I went for Shogun mode too. New challenges, some other enemies and a lot more difficulty with levels up to 200+. Really a game that keeps you entertained for many many hours, even after completing everything. For example by helping others... Enjoy! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠐⣄⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⢀⠀⠀⣶⣿⠀⠀⡀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⡀⠀⢠⡀⣸⣤⣾⣿⣿⣦⣠⣿⠀⡀⠀⠠⡀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⢀⡷⢀⣾⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣾⡇⠀⢰⡇⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⣤⣀⣾⣧⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣷⣿⣧⡆⢀⠀⢰⡀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⢀⡀⠀⠀⣴⣯⣘⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣟⢁⣦⢰⣷⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⣾⣇⣹⣶⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣻⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣽⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣤⣿⠀⢀⣀⡄⢀⠤⢄⡴⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⣀⣛⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣟⡿⣽⡯⡏⢹⣿⠾⣝⣿⣟⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣟⡰⢁⢞⡟⠁⠀ ⠀⢀⡔⠂⠓⢬⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣯⣽⡓⠒⠁⠀⠐⢛⣯⣽⣿⣿⣿⣿⠿⢿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡿⠉⠀⢀⡞⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠸⡀⠀⠀⠀⠻⣿⣿⣿⣿⠟⠃⢠⣿⣿⣿⣷⣿⣿⣷⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⠇⠀⠀⢹⣿⣿⣿⠃⠀⢀⡾⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⢹⣇⠀⠀⢶⣹⣿⣿⣿⠀⠀⠸⣿⠏⠈⠹⢿⣿⣿⡿⠿⠿⠉⠉⠉⢿⣿⡇⠀⠀⣾⣿⣿⡏⠀⢰⢸⠇⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠈⠿⡆⠠⡀⢣⠻⣿⣷⠀⠀⢠⣿⡄⠀⠀⠘⣿⡋⠀⠀⢀⣤⣤⠀⢸⣿⣿⠀⠰⣿⣿⣿⠃⠀⠏⡏⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⢠⢸⠀⢿⣄⠑⠘⢿⠀⠀⣿⣿⣷⠀⠀⣠⣿⣷⠀⣀⣼⣿⡏⠀⣾⣿⡇⠀⠀⠉⣉⡀⠀⠘⢸⠁⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠸⠀⠀⢸⣿⣷⣄⠀⠀⠀⠈⣿⣿⠘⠒⣿⣿⣿⠀⢿⣿⠟⠁⠀⢀⣿⠇⠀⢠⣼⣿⣿⠀⠀⢸⡆⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⣠⠃⠀⠀⢿⣿⣿⣿⣦⠀⠀⣀⣿⣿⡀⠀⣿⣿⣿⣄⠀⠀⢀⣠⣶⣿⣿⣶⣶⣿⣿⣿⡿⠀⠀⠘⢧⡀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠤⠾⣅⠀⠀⢀⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⠿⣾⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣾⣿⣿⣿⣯⣿⣿⣿⣯⣿⣿⣧⠀⠀⠀⠀⣿⣿⠷⠦⠄ ⠀⠀⠈⠝⠛⠛⡟⠉⣿⡿⠃⣠⣟⠛⠋⢉⣿⣿⣿⣀⡉⢀⣤⣽⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣻⣯⣟⣿⣿⣻⠙⢲⠶⠛⠁⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⣇⡸⡁⣁⠀⣷⠉⠉⡏⢹⣿⡿⣿⡁⠁⢀⣀⣾⣹⣿⣿⣿⠿⡉⠈⢿⣏⣿⡷⠿⣀⡆⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠉⢉⡀⡇⣄⣉⣁⣄⣹⢊⣉⣛⣁⣈⣉⣀⣻⣙⣿⣇⣀⣉⣤⣾⣿⣿⠇⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠛⠃⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠘⠬⡉⠀⠁⠈⡉⠉⢧⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡿⠋⠁⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠈⠀⠀⠉⠛⠛⠉⠁⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I just wrapped up the main story, so I'm going to go ahead and give my review while I'm still irritated. I think this game is markedly worse than Nioh 2 in basically every way, but the one that affected me most personally wasn't any of the usual complaints about the open world, poor enemy variety in most of the game, inconsistent difficulty where fights are either trivial or a huge pain with nothing in between...my big complaint is that the visual clarity, already poor in previous titles, is worse than anything I've ever seen in a real video game. I have an easier time telling what's happening on screen in something like Path of Exile than I do Nioh 3. That's almost impressive. Red or black translucent glowing tells on a red-and-black enemy in a red and black environment with everything desaturated and filtered and fire effects and black-red liquid raining from the sky is just one of the many nonsense things you'll have to deal with while fighting bosses in Nioh 3. This affects me more than most people, for whatever reason, so I can't say I had a good time with the game or really recommend it even if it did have some good moments.

I have close to 300 hours in Nioh 1, and nearly 1000 in N2 across PS4 and PC. It felt like with Wo Long, Wild Hearts, and Rise of the Ronin that a new team of devs was getting its footing by working on some mechanics while not muddying up the core IP. I didn't really enjoy any of those games, so I was hopeful when I saw the first trailers that we were getting more Nioh and Things Were Back To Normal. I have to say now unfortunately after finishing the base game and all achievements that this game needs more time to bake. They took a lot of the wrong lessons from those games, and implemented them into the Nioh combat system largely to its detriment. Splitting off half the weapons and locking them behind one style is a baby-brained response to "there's too many weapons/skills" that serves no purpose than to alienate you from the game you wanted to play, and then they dripfeed you back the skills you wanted that were core in Samurai style by forcing you to explore every single nook and cranny in the open world. Ninja style seems ridiculously powerful by comparison almost out of the gate, with insane movement options and oddly much less ki management issues even though there's no ki pulse, because you can use guardian spirit skills while out of ki to recover and create spacing. Although onmyo feels much weaker overall, elemental damage and confusion are wildly overpowered - you can stack multiple confusion stacks and doing this to bosses combined with ninjutsu and backstab damage bonus trivializes most encounters. Weapon balance is also all over the place, which I am assuming will change and get better with time, but I'm not sure I want to hang around for that. I had some paralysis tonfas that basically carried me through the game and neutered nearly all human enemies, and the tonfas moveset felt the least nerfed from how I played in N1/N2 as compared to Splitstaff and Kusarigama which is what I largely rolled with in N2 along with fists. Samurai fists are ridiculous also and can easily stack massive damage with Arts Proficency and Versatility, which you now get fairly early in the game although it isn't as good as in prior games. If you do roll with Samurai style, the deflect system is extremely easy to use compared to Sekiro/Wo Long and also trivializes a lot of combat as well as it works on pretty much everything except enemy grabs. From a map design perspective, the open world often looks impressive but the performance is all over the place, and the enemy placement and variety is flat and uninspiring. I can't think of many areas of this game where you would have those same "oh I hate/love this part" compared to the prior 2 games because nothing is really challenging. I had far more deaths to cheap hidden yokai, falls from invisible walls, or random explosion carts than I did to bosses which is a stark contrast to prior entries in this series. The open world also is a problem from a NG+ perspective, as there isn't much incentive to re-explore the map since you have already unlocked all of the skills. This means your time will be focused on the most efficient areas for drop farming which the community is already using the power of distributed autism to solve. Speaking of performance issues, I have a 7900XTX, a Ryzen9 9900X, and 64GB of RAM, yet somehow the game cannot reliably hit 120FPS even on lower settings. They keep introducing patches to fix bugs and are also creating new stuttering issues as they're doing it. I sincerely hope performance is addressed at some point, because I never had these problems with N1/N2 and can run every other game out today without issues like this. It might be acceptable if the game was a pinnacle of graphics, but it's not, it looks like a high-end PS4 or launch PS5 title. The stuttering happens to spike at key moments like when bosses are launching special attacks and textures are loading in for the first time. There are also tons of threads on Reddit about inputs being eaten by the game, and while I had this problem occasionally in the first two games, it's very prevalent in this game. As an example, I've had my character get locked into incorrect animations where their head is facing 90 degrees away from where the body is facing/I am aiming while I am throwing kunai, and the kunai actually ends up on a vector somewhere halfway between what I am locked onto and what my head is looking at. This gets stuck until you stop moving and guard to cancel the animations. I've had cases where I am standing still and spamming the elixir button, and I see the button light up on the dpad screen, but nothing happens for 10-15 seconds. I've had similar issues with other skills or items, and changing which button is hit doesn't make a difference. These are just basic issues that shouldn't be present on what is like the 5th or 6th game on this engine. Storywise, it feels like we're retreading a lot of the same storyline from the prior games in slightly different eras and I felt it was the weakest of the 3. I'm not one of the people who felt the 2nd game was worse because there was no self-insert character (WIRRIAM) but the buildup of Hideyoshi's story felt a lot more earned and believable than literally having the same characters show up in 4 different time periods in this game. The overall variety of enemy and ally characters suffers as a result of this reuse, much like the run of the mill yokai you fight. The Bakumatsu era has some of the best music and vibes, but the level design is bland with the same yokai spikes/fire all over that you've seen for hours and hours by the time you get there. Overall, I would give the game a 6 or 7/10 after my first playthrough. I'd give the original a 9 and Nioh 2 for e is a 10 as it improved on literally every aspect of the original. I'll come back to check out the DLC later this year, but I doubt it will address the core game design issues present due to the open world and the style split. Get this on sale if you really need more Nioh, but it is definitely not a buy at the ridiculous launch pricing. If you thought the prior two games were way too hard but you liked the combat system, this is probably your game. It is not mine though at present, and I will go back to N2.

I personally think many aspects are Nioh 3 are straight downgrades to Nioh 2 which sits as one of my favorite games of all time. The open world works worse than the more linear level design of 2, a large part of the content ends up being recycled from the earlier games, Ninja style is fun occasionally but is little more than a simplified moveset for players who find the Samurai style too hard, the weapon's available are vastly inferior to the offering in the 2 and many open world activities are quite boring. Even despite this, it's not enough on it's own for me to not recommend this game, so why the negative review? I happen to be fortunate enough to be able to afford a higher end PC, yet there is nothing here to warrant the absolute horrible performance this game has. You repeatedly see people with mid-range PC's having great trouble running this game at a reasonable framerate, yet there is nothing here which should warrant that, the game even straight up looks worse than Nioh 2 at times. Every Team Ninja game after Nioh 2 has had enormous performance issues which they seem entirely unwilling to fix. For example, Stranger of Paradise has performance problems tied to shadows, one of the community recommended fixes for this is REMOVING THE HAIR FROM ALL PARTY MEMBERS. While your new bald party will let you cruise at slightly higher FPS anything with debris or particle will still hit your framerate like a cruise missile. These problems, (or at least variations of them) exist in Stranger of Paradise, Wo Long, Rise of the Ronin, Ninja Gaiden 2 black, Nioh 3, probably the Atelier game (I have not played enough Fatal Frame 2 remake to comment) even though these game seem to look worse and worse (keep in mind I am not talking about artistic presentation here but texture quality/lighting). At what point should it be insulting to sell 80€ games in this state? I haven't had the time to play the DLC yet and with the reviews I'm unsure if I will, but supposedly it somehow makes the performance even worse. While there might some deep extremely technical reason for this, they are still struggling with the same issues since Nioh 2 (Nioh 2 also had problems tied to effects but these were minimal in comparasion and could be alleviated with changing settings). At what point is it fair to simply call this negligence?

Alright, look at my rig: you literally cannot buy a better graphics card without dropping stupid money. 7900XTX and 9800X3D is the *BEST* case scenario for this game... But it still runs like crap!! I tried ultra first. Most areas were okay. But, during combat and whenever new things appear on-screen, the game lags and chokes badly. Also---this game pegs my CPU for some reason. I checked to make sure it is running through my GPU, and it is. For some odd reason, no matter what you do---fake frames, low settings, lowered FPS---this game just runs like dog poop on PC. Wo Long had the same problem for about a year or longer. I hope to God they patch this crap out because this is absurd. I am not bragging, but I've got a top of the line water-cooled gaming PC: this game should run GREAT on it, I do insane things on this rig without breaking a sweat, yet Nioh 3 *still* runs like a fossilized turd on a sunny day. Embarrassing! I am a LONG-TIME FAN of Nioh. I played Nioh 1 & 2 for hundreds of hours, played them until I was bitterly bored. Went through NG+ multiple times. Nioh 2 ran great on PC, by the way: this game has no excuse to run bad!! Especially not on this computer!! I am shocked and ashamed that the game was released in this state. My advice: go play Nioh 1 & 2 for about a year until they fix this game. I'll update this review if they do. I WOULD tell you about the gameplay (spoilers: ninja is broken easy-mode, the special red glow parry from N2 is back but using it switches your styles) but honestly don't even worry about gameplay at the moment. The game is going to run like crap no matter what you do. If it matters, I'm running Linux, but that operates via Proton which basically means I'm emulating Windows, so... performance should be the same on Windows. Judging by the other reviews on Windows system, they have the same problem. So, no, this isn't a Linux-specific issue. Fix the fkn game Koei, this is crap!!

Love this series in general however this was the first one I have purchased on PC. I cannot recommend this game in this state. I am one of the multiple users experiencing egregious amounts of vram leak no matter what setting/resolution combination. At 1080p with DLSS on or off, the vram leak would become unplayable in ~2hours. At 1440p however, the vram leak would crash my card/system at 1 hour mark. I have heard the console versions have fairly stable performance for PS5 and xbox series x. Sure the game is a blast but having to hard reset or risk 100% loading your GPU constantly is just unacceptable as a paid product. I hope it gets fixed sometime soon and would happily update my review to reflect new performance but at this current time i would recommend buy on console or sadly skip this installment. all together. PC Specs: OS: Windows 11 CPU: 9800xd GPU: RTX 3080 10GB RAM: 32GB SSD: 1TB NVME

80 EUR for 90% re used content from other Nioh's without a single new weapon class, with just a few new Yokai (as i don't count NPC battles as bosses since they have no new weapons as per above so they are are just NPC fights from Nioh 2) Performance is also kinda bad considering it's the same Nioh 2 with better textures, somehow it can't get stable 60 FPS upwards at Native 4K with 24GB video card considering how the game looks (which is not badly, but not worth of it requiring so much) I understand new players praising the game, i would too, but for a player that has bought both games, if the 3rd is gonna be 90% re used content, animations, music (pretty much everything really) then i would genuinely expect it to be half cost for me. Sorry lads, not enough for the price.

When the game shows you an option each time you boot up the game, asking you to turn down the graphical settings because the current selection will negatively affect performance despite the game having PS4 era visuals and you having a good PC, you know the optimization is dog**** and the dev has zero intention to improve that and just shifts the responsibility to you instead. Judging by the colossal disappointment that is DLC 1, the chance of this game ever reaching (let alone surpassing) the peak of Nioh 2 is becoming ever more like an impossibility. And Team Ninja doesn't even seem to care anymore because they are making one game per year now so this is just another product on the assembly line. So just go play Nioh 2 instead, the optimization isn't something to write home about over there either but at least it's not disappointing in most other aspects as well.

Performance is disgraceful, and I say this as an rtx 5090 owner. Seriously, games like RE4 remake run in 4k DLAA with alls settings and ray tracing maxed out at nearly twice the best framerate I can get here, with much smoother frametimes and far less stutter. This game doesn't have real time RT, and whilst visually quite good in some areas, also has some visuals that could have been pulled right out of an early ps4 game. Game is so full of performance bugs that I would say that at this stage, I am not so sure that anyone has even started looking into optimizing the game prior to release. Also some peak 'console dev' energy here given the weird bugs in visual options. For example, the game will not detect that my monitor supports 120hz/120fps, and doesn't let me enable that, on an RTX 5090 with an LG oled tv connected!?! The game will not play smoothly unless you can manage a locked 30/60/120fps with no dips below your fps lock framerate or everything becomes slowmo/stutter fest. I can avoid all of this on my system only because I am using a workstation with hardware far beyond what is reasonable for a gaming rig. YMMV, please check performance threads (see here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/3681010/discussions/0/726902731209522775/?tscn=1770510819 ) to see how it will work on your pc before buying! If you have a decent mid-range pc, this game may barely run and could look unacceptably bad to you by the time you find settings that work. For this reason, sadly, I can't recommend it. Team Ninja have never bothered acknowledging or patching these issues for months now. I have no faith they will deal with this, and this is their second more open world game left in an unacceptable state for performance. That is the last nail in the coffin, never buying another game from these guys again (and I am die hard fan, bought everything they've released in the past 10 years). EDIT: Just tried this on my rtx 3070 laptop (core i7 11th gen). Literally unplayable, dips below 60fps even at 75% DLSS at 1080p with most settings low/off. Totally avoid this game if you are on a mid range rig with 3xxx gpu or earlier. I've heard from 3080 owners on 5800x who can't get a steady 60fps in 1440p! Horrendous.

Tutorial was nice, good gameplay. Just over the 2 hour mark the game becomes unplayable. Lags like hell. Edit: I wouldn't call my PC a Potato. It is still decently specced and lets be honest, a game the size of NIOH 3 and its graphics should run fine on even weaker setups. My pc runs Ghost of Tsushima without a single hickup and elden ring too and others.

Game seems good from what I played. But the awfull performance, especially for the pretty bad graphics ruin the experience. Even worse if the framerate drops the games speed turn to slowmotion, making it impossible to play good.

A visual performance from 2016. Yet it requires computer hardware standards from 2026. Even when using 2026 computer hardware, gameplay remains riddled with stuttering and lag. And you're telling me this game costs 60 bucks? Ridiculous.

SSD M.2 ADATA XPG GAMMIX S11 Pro ( 1 TB ) 6. ЛЮБЫE тoксичныe/прoвoкационныe кoммeнтapии от нулевoй-рaзбитнoй-спинномозговой шпaны, НE умeющей фильтрoвaть свои слова, будут УДАЛЕНЫ и приведут ТОЛЬКО к ПOЖИЗНEННOМУ БAHУ!

A bit heartbroken leaving this review but I unfortunately was not the biggest fan of this game. Nioh 2 is my most played game (on ps5) and one of my favorite games of all time! The combat/bosses/enemies and mission structure was all perfect for me. Once Nioh 3 was announced I couldn't believe it and my excitement went through the roof! So I'll break this down in categories that are most important to me and assuming most Nioh players: Combat: 8.5/10 The combat is still amazing and the addition of ninja mode is interesting. It doesn't feel as tight as Nioh 2 but overall this is still excellent. I do feel like the weapons being tied to either samurai/ninja wasn't the best move. Would've rather maybe seen different moves attached to either samurai/ninja for the same weapons. Having a jump button I thought would be super cool but for some reason didn't add much as the enemies logic doesn't account for it. Parrying feels great in samurai mode. Bosses: 3/10 Nioh isn't necessarily known for the strongest bosses in soulsborne styles games but man the ones in this game were just poor. Not a single memorable boss and then repeating bosses from previous games that are much easier to defeat? It just feels lazy that they just chose to bring those back. Nioh 1/2 had a few memorable bosses where this game every boss fight feels the same. Enemy Variety: 4/10 This one might have been the biggest disappointment because you spend almost 80% fighting the same exact enemy types and the logic behind a crowd of enemies is that they take turns. I just felt burnt out fighting the same stupid skeletons over and over and was upset the newer enemy types hardly show up. Mission/Open Field Structure: 6/10 Initially during the first 8-10 hours I was very impressed with the open field and thought it was a more focused/tight feeling version of ubisoft games. But then at some point the importance of discovery was less important as you continue the game. Luckily fast travel is very easy and there are shrines everywhere. But level design to me tanked in the 2nd and 3rd area and those were more straight forward and for a game in 2026 I felt like they could've made it more interesting. Performance: 6/10 I played the demo and thought it ran beautifully and felt excited that we will finally get a big optimized game on launch! Unfortunately on launch and the more I played it was all over the place. Framerate was up and down and I am running a 4090 high spec build. I didn't have any crashes luckily but it was definitely a mixed bag. Graphically the game also looks a bit dated which im not too upset about for a combat focused game but performance needs to be much better. I wont rate the story because honestly I don't play any of these games for story but rather the topics I discussed above. Overall, I would say this is not a BAD game but comparing to 2 it is a step down. Maybe if you are playing nioh for the first time this might be the most approachable and your experience could be different.

Not Recommended f**k you team ninja for not caring about Linux players, in days where every respectable gamer moves away from Windows' sh*tty monopoly and AI slop. Why Not Recommended There's absolutely nothing I can complain in terms of gameplay, content, quality of open world, so I will skip these and get straight to the core. Note: All tests were done on 3440x1440 resolution Graphics are fairly outdated if that's something you care about. As in, they absolutely suck and lighting does all the aesthetic work. Turn off global illumination and you'll feel like playing a 2012 game. The game is, sadly, very unoptimized. I can run 60FPS native given global illumination set on low and volumetric clouds on low. But 120FPS stable? no chance. And it's extremely jarring that the game speed is related to a multiple of 60. You either go 60fps or 120fps, any value between affects the game speed in unexplainable ways. For example, 90FPS causes literal slow-mo. It's horrendous, it's jarring, and it's honestly dissapointing to see that in 2026. But yeah, this is what you get for 80 euros today. Re-tested on ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 5070Ti On Windows, I was able to run at constant 120 with 1% lows at 118fps, on full native. On Linux, the story is f**king sour. Ran like crap. 80-90fps, with 45 1% lows. Nvidia users are forced to play this game on Winslop, as Linux drivers for Nvidia somehow net around ~20-30% performance loss. Re-tested on Linux with AMD Radeon 9070 XT Sapphire Nitro+ Game ran like dogsh*t. According to ProtonDB, other users and me included are having horrible performance MAINLY caused by Linux because the devs did not bother doing jacksh*t for Linux users. On Windows it is fine. Finally... It's safe to assume that the game is just severely unoptimized for Linux. Very dissapointing. Have fun playing this game on a Steam Machine at more than 60fps. 120 will not be possible. Why? Because it runs Linux.

I want to recommend this game but I can't, because it's another victim of mandatory real-time lighting and poor optimization thanks to upscaling and frame gen ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. It performs like ♥♥♥♥ even on the lowest settings. The game has a heart attack that has caused the game to crash multiple times every time I open the map. It gets even worse if you try to play multplayer. On top of that, game speed is tied to framerate, so it goes slow motion every time something loads in too fast. _______________________________________________________________________________________ Having come back to this game since I was able to find a mod to get it to a somewhat playable state, I still can't recommend this game. Even with a mod that allows you to set a specific framerate target (because the Katana engine has a seizure if it can't meet the framerate target), it feels worse in almost every way than Nioh 2, but with no real improvements as a tradeoff. It feels more sluggish, less responsive, and if it were possible, it eats even more inputs than Nioh 2. I have died several times where I otherwise wouldn't have simply due to pressing the button to heal and nothing happening. I have sat there and pressed the button several times, only for my character to stand there like a tool and die, which is incredibly frustrating. I was willing to forgive that flaw in Nioh 2 because the game is otherwise as smooth as butter and feels incredible to play, which simply isn't the case in Nioh 3. This extends to picking up items - more than half the time, I have to hold R1 twice in order to pick up one item point. Beyond the game feeling like ♥♥♥♥ to play, it also looks awful. Because they couldn't be bothered to optimize their game and instead rely on real time lighting and upscaling resolution. On top of the performance cost (which is significant), this makes the game feel incredibly inconsistent in terms of looks - grainy, plastic, and all over the place. Objects pop in and out of view at random, often long after they should have loaded, leaving me disoriented because what was once a free path is abruptly turned into a dead end by an entire building popping in (with low-rez textures for several seconds afterwards, to boot). Distant objects look like they would better fit in an N64 game (if they're rendered in at all). Beyond that, it feels like a step back in some regards, compared to Nioh 2. Jumping is nice, but the changes to Onmyo Magic and Ninjutsu are much more restrictive than in Nioh 2, albeit easier to unlock in some regards. You can only equip 3 Ninjutsu at a time, and have no control over how many of those Ninjutsu you can stock up, except for through accessories. Upgrading Guardian Spirits and attuning Soul Cores for Yokai skills and Onmyo Magic feels like a step back as well - you have no control over how many you get per soul core, and you're much more limited in terms of how many you can have equipped. Restricting weapons to certain styles also feels like a step back compared to Nioh 2, with weapons like the Tonfa and Splitstaff just having less options in Nioh 3. I've gotten far enough to be able to Burst Break with Guardian Skills and to be able to equip two weapons with each style, but it feels much less customizable. The UI also feels worse, because they took away the scaling letters for weapons, making it harder to see at a glance which stat is best for a given weapon. You also then have to know which symbols mean what in order to even have an idea about what each weapon scales with. It also scrolls slower, which is annoying when you have several new items to look through. Overall, I wish I could like and recommend this game but I'm just disappointed. It doesn't look any better than Nioh 2 (unless you're running a beast of a machine), and has significantly worse performance to boot. There's less customizability for your build, and the UI feels like a downgrade. I'll probably finish the game, just to see if there's anything worth seeing, but I wouldn't recommend anyone buy this game.

A Masterclass in Selling You the Same Crap Thrice (at 2x price) :) There are some pros, i guess, but read other reviews for that fluff. Im here for the mess. The core mechanics are the same as ten years ago. It works… whatever. But then they added "Spirit Transformation" which turns every encounter into a mindless button-mashing session(I'm not sure if it's a downside... it's just that, when you factor in all the other details, I DON'T LIKE IT!). They killed the difficulty on the altar of "inclusivity" - the open world is literally safer than the tutorial in Nioh 1. You’ll memorize boss patterns faster than your own name)) If you played the previous games, get ready for some clinical depression. 80% of the content is a straight-up Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V job. They dragged a ton of weapons and armor from Nioh 1 and 2, and of course, they picked the most boring-looking trash. There are so few new sets you could count them on the fingers of one careless samurai XD )))) The "Open World" Scam too/ Level design here is a total "goi prep" (pure bait). Instead of the promised freedom, we got three hubs and a couple of corridors cosplaying as an open world. Shortcuts are as useless as common sense when buying this remix at full price. The map is so bloated with busywork that you’ll inevitably end up massively overleveled. By the time you reach the final boss, he’s just a generic speedbump before the credits. The graphics are basically Nioh 2 tier, but that doesn’t stop the game from violating your hardware. The optimization is bad. Apparently, the 2x price hike includes a "room heating tax" because your PC will be running like a stove. The bosses are BORED. No banger tracks, no hype cinematics just models with predictable movesets. The mob variety is the same old story: Gaki and boars will haunt you until the end because Team Ninja’s imagination is on permanent vacation. It’s not a "homage" to the old games; i think.. If you don't take into account the even worse optimization in Rise of the Ronin, Nioh 3 falls short of it in every way! It’s a lazy, budget remix. Fighting the same boss five times in one playthrough? Easy. Paying a fortune for it? Be my guest.

I was beyond excited when Nioh 3 was announced. The first 2 games had incredible combat, and great build variety. I'm very glad to say that's all here and better than ever, but I cannot reccomend this game in it's current state. Nioh 3 ditches the level-based design of it's predecessors and goes open world. This has it's upsides and downsides. Exploration is better than ever, and they did a great job of filling the world with objectives and interesting things to investigate. Unfortunately, this does take away from the slick, quick paced levels that the series is known for. You spend a lot more time figuring out where to go than you do actually progressing. If you're a fan of games like Elden Ring and Crimson Desert, this is a huge win for you. I can definitely understand the frustrations from people that prefer the older style of the levels. The combat in Nioh 3 is spectacular. It's an improvement beyond Nioh 2 in many ways, the most of which is a completely new style of combat, the Ninja style. The Ninja moveset is focused on mobility and dodging, and it nails that feeling. It feels amazing to dart around the open world and quickly shred enemies. If you want slower paced, heavier, parry and block style combat closer to the first 2 games, you have the samurai style available for you. Both styles have the stance system for your weapons and have tons of unique skills to unlock and experiment with. Obviously, with refined combat comes refined enemies, and they did an excellent job with this as well. The enemy variety definitely feels reminiscent of Elden Ring, and the feeling of discovery and shock when finding a new enemy feels amazing. The game encourages you to try and figure out an Enemy's movset and weaknesses before you approach. A lot of classic Nioh favorite Yokai are still here as well. After all this, you're probably thinking, "Why don't you recommend this game? Everything you said was positive." It was, up until this point. This game has a glaring, obvious issue that is persistent and hampers the entire experience. Yes, I'm talking about the technical aspect of the game. Team Ninja is unfortunately known for their terrible PC ports, and Nioh 3 is no different. Insane CPU usage, low frame rates, and graphics that frankly don't look much better than Nioh 2. All of these same issues have been present in their other PC ports, and in some like Rise of the Ronin, have never been fixed. I'm writing this review 4 months after launch, and there has not been a single patch or fix in regards to the optimization process. I don't know if they've given up, or what, but the fact is people with PC's even above the requirements will not be able to enjoy this game to the fullest in this state. I really hope that Team Ninja is aware of this and is planning a patch to fix this issues, but I'm not holding my breath. Nioh 3 is an incredible experience in every sense apart from it's frame rate. For that reason, I can't recommend this game. If the game gets a patch that addresses this, I will absolutely change my review. Team Ninja, you have an incredible game here, please make it run acceptably.

Game would be good if not for the performance issues I have had. If I hadn't gotten this game for free, I would have refunded it due to performance issues. For reference, I ran Nioh 2 at a stable 120fps years ago with a 1660 TI and a much worse CPU. I struggle to hit a stable 60fps with no framegen in this title with frequent drops below 30 despite a whole new rig. I've now uninstalled. Nioh 3 presents no graphical upgrades with no performance patches in the many months it has been out. It is an utter CPU hog and there's been no word from the devs on any upcoming optimization. If you have a setup similar to mine, or even a little better, do yourself a favor and buy some other hundred dollar title.
