This was my first time playing Nioh, meaning I haven't played the previous parts. I really didn't know what to expect but I'm really happy I decided to buy this game. Definitely one of the best games I've ever played. They really put some effort in making this story, the surroundings, the character designs and even the outfits to get a real traditional Japanese feeling. The missions, the exploring and the collecting of every item available is so much fun...and it's really nice to see yourself grow in strength and skill througout the gameplay. Clearing out areas or camps with enemies or defeating waves of bosses is very thrilling and well designed. A really nice feature, for when you're struggling...is to summon a visitor (or 2), real people who like to help others...so if you want some help defeating that hard boss...that might be an option. However...if you like the challenge and want to become really powerful and skilled, you could try to take down the bosses on your own. I really like that the game let's you decide the difficulty for yourself this way. When I finished the game in Heir's journey I learned that a new game mode was available to turn things up a notch, The Shogun's Journey. At first I was sceptical but they made it very attractive to play the harder gamemode as well. So I went for Shogun mode too. New challenges, some other enemies and a lot more difficulty with levels up to 200+. Really a game that keeps you entertained for many many hours, even after completing everything. For example by helping others... I just wrapped up the main story, so I'm going to go ahead and give my review while I'm still irritated. I think this game is markedly worse than Nioh 2 in basically every way, but the one that affected me most personally wasn't any of the usual complaints about the open world, poor enemy variety in most of the game, inconsistent difficulty where fights are either trivial or a huge pain with nothing in between...my big complaint is that the visual clarity, already poor in previous titles, is worse than anything I've ever seen in a real video game. I have an easier time telling what's happening on screen in something like Path of Exile than I do Nioh 3. That's almost impressive. Red or black translucent glowing tells on a red-and-black enemy in a red and black environment with everything desaturated and filtered and fire effects and black-red liquid raining from the sky is just one of the many nonsense things you'll have to deal with while fighting bosses in Nioh 3. This affects me more than most people, for whatever reason, so I can't say I had a good time with the game or really recommend it even if it did have some good moments.

I have close to 300 hours in Nioh 1, and nearly 1000 in N2 across PS4 and PC. It felt like with Wo Long, Wild Hearts, and Rise of the Ronin that a new team of devs was getting its footing by working on some mechanics while not muddying up the core IP. I didn't really enjoy any of those games, so I was hopeful when I saw the first trailers that we were getting more Nioh and Things Were Back To Normal. I have to say now unfortunately after finishing the base game and all achievements that this game needs more time to bake. They took a lot of the wrong lessons from those games, and implemented them into the Nioh combat system largely to its detriment. Splitting off half the weapons and locking them behind one style is a baby-brained response to "there's too many weapons/skills" that serves no purpose than to alienate you from the game you wanted to play, and then they dripfeed you back the skills you wanted that were core in Samurai style by forcing you to explore every single nook and cranny in the open world. Ninja style seems ridiculously powerful by comparison almost out of the gate, with insane movement options and oddly much less ki management issues even though there's no ki pulse, because you can use guardian spirit skills while out of ki to recover and create spacing. Although onmyo feels much weaker overall, elemental damage and confusion are wildly overpowered - you can stack multiple confusion stacks and doing this to bosses combined with ninjutsu and backstab damage bonus trivializes most encounters. Weapon balance is also all over the place, which I am assuming will change and get better with time, but I'm not sure I want to hang around for that. I had some paralysis tonfas that basically carried me through the game and neutered nearly all human enemies, and the tonfas moveset felt the least nerfed from how I played in N1/N2 as compared to Splitstaff and Kusarigama which is what I largely rolled with in N2 along with fists. Samurai fists are ridiculous also and can easily stack massive damage with Arts Proficency and Versatility, which you now get fairly early in the game although it isn't as good as in prior games. If you do roll with Samurai style, the deflect system is extremely easy to use compared to Sekiro/Wo Long and also trivializes a lot of combat as well as it works on pretty much everything except enemy grabs. From a map design perspective, the open world often looks impressive but the performance is all over the place, and the enemy placement and variety is flat and uninspiring. I can't think of many areas of this game where you would have those same "oh I hate/love this part" compared to the prior 2 games because nothing is really challenging. I had far more deaths to cheap hidden yokai, falls from invisible walls, or random explosion carts than I did to bosses which is a stark contrast to prior entries in this series. The open world also is a problem from a NG+ perspective, as there isn't much incentive to re-explore the map since you have already unlocked all of the skills. This means your time will be focused on the most efficient areas for drop farming which the community is already using the power of distributed autism to solve. Speaking of performance issues, I have a 7900XTX, a Ryzen9 9900X, and 64GB of RAM, yet somehow the game cannot reliably hit 120FPS even on lower settings. They keep introducing patches to fix bugs and are also creating new stuttering issues as they're doing it. I sincerely hope performance is addressed at some point, because I never had these problems with N1/N2 and can run every other game out today without issues like this. It might be acceptable if the game was a pinnacle of graphics, but it's not, it looks like a high-end PS4 or launch PS5 title. The stuttering happens to spike at key moments like when bosses are launching special attacks and textures are loading in for the first time. There are also tons of threads on Reddit about inputs being eaten by the game, and while I had this problem occasionally in the first two games, it's very prevalent in this game. As an example, I've had my character get locked into incorrect animations where their head is facing 90 degrees away from where the body is facing/I am aiming while I am throwing kunai, and the kunai actually ends up on a vector somewhere halfway between what I am locked onto and what my head is looking at. This gets stuck until you stop moving and guard to cancel the animations. I've had cases where I am standing still and spamming the elixir button, and I see the button light up on the dpad screen, but nothing happens for 10-15 seconds. I've had similar issues with other skills or items, and changing which button is hit doesn't make a difference. These are just basic issues that shouldn't be present on what is like the 5th or 6th game on this engine. Storywise, it feels like we're retreading a lot of the same storyline from the prior games in slightly different eras and I felt it was the weakest of the 3. I'm not one of the people who felt the 2nd game was worse because there was no self-insert character (WIRRIAM) but the buildup of Hideyoshi's story felt a lot more earned and believable than literally having the same characters show up in 4 different time periods in this game. The overall variety of enemy and ally characters suffers as a result of this reuse, much like the run of the mill yokai you fight. The Bakumatsu era has some of the best music and vibes, but the level design is bland with the same yokai spikes/fire all over that you've seen for hours and hours by the time you get there. Overall, I would give the game a 6 or 7/10 after my first playthrough. I'd give the original a 9 and Nioh 2 for e is a 10 as it improved on literally every aspect of the original. I'll come back to check out the DLC later this year, but I doubt it will address the core game design issues present due to the open world and the style split. Get this on sale if you really need more Nioh, but it is definitely not a buy at the ridiculous launch pricing. If you thought the prior two games were way too hard but you liked the combat system, this is probably your game. It is not mine though at present, and I will go back to N2.

I could say that I prefer the level design, story, and general vibes of Nioh 2 more but...man I don't even think that matters at this point. Every time I play a new Nioh game its like coming home again, or putting on the most form fitting glove of your life, or eating your favorite food from your childhood that mom used to make. Its one of the best combat systems ever put to a video game and Team Ninja knows it. The thrill of the fight is like crack, and I can never have enough. I love this series so much and I never want it to stop.

Alright, look at my rig: you literally cannot buy a better graphics card without dropping stupid money. 7900XTX and 9800X3D is the *BEST* case scenario for this game... But it still runs like crap!! I tried ultra first. Most areas were okay. But, during combat and whenever new things appear on-screen, the game lags and chokes badly. Also---this game pegs my CPU for some reason. I checked to make sure it is running through my GPU, and it is. For some odd reason, no matter what you do---fake frames, low settings, lowered FPS---this game just runs like dog poop on PC. Wo Long had the same problem for about a year or longer. I hope to God they patch this crap out because this is absurd. I am not bragging, but I've got a top of the line water-cooled gaming PC: this game should run GREAT on it, I do insane things on this rig without breaking a sweat, yet Nioh 3 *still* runs like a fossilized turd on a sunny day. Embarrassing! I am a LONG-TIME FAN of Nioh. I played Nioh 1 & 2 for hundreds of hours, played them until I was bitterly bored. Went through NG+ multiple times. Nioh 2 ran great on PC, by the way: this game has no excuse to run bad!! Especially not on this computer!! I am shocked and ashamed that the game was released in this state. My advice: go play Nioh 1 & 2 for about a year until they fix this game. I'll update this review if they do. I WOULD tell you about the gameplay (spoilers: ninja is broken easy-mode, the special red glow parry from N2 is back but using it switches your styles) but honestly don't even worry about gameplay at the moment. The game is going to run like crap no matter what you do. If it matters, I'm running Linux, but that operates via Proton which basically means I'm emulating Windows, so... performance should be the same on Windows. Judging by the other reviews on Windows system, they have the same problem. So, no, this isn't a Linux-specific issue. Fix the fkn game Koei, this is crap!!

You know when you're playing a game and nothing about it is really bad but nothing about it is very good or engaging either? That's Nioh 3 for me. The videogame equivalent of waiting for the bus. That sounds harsh, but every time I end a session of Nioh 3 I just think to myself "well that sure was another session of Nioh 3 that was very much like all the last ones". I think one of the things that kills it for me is the complete lack of anything surprising or interesting ever happening. It's a big, long game, but you've seen all of its tricks after just a few hours. It starts off pretty strong. The first open-world area of the game is by far its strongest. Instead of going for a giant map like Elden Ring or Breath of the Wild, Nioh 3 opts for smaller, denser spaces that are interconnected. It's not a true open world game in the sense that there are discrete maps per area, but those spaces themselves are large and contiguous. After the first area, however, these areas start to feel more like run-on levels connected by corridors. Corridors connected by other corridors, if you will. Exploration is rewarded by map completion, knick-knacks, absolute mountains of loot you will not need or want - typical Nioh stuff. I go hours and hours without looking at my loot, because nothing in the game poses a sufficient challenge for me to want to spend the mental energy to look at all this garbage with modifiers like "Quick attack ki consumption -1.8%". That's not an exaggeration, that's the kind of stuff we're dealing with here. The new Ninja stance feels cool and fun, but also trivializes every combat encounter in the game, bosses included. The game gives you so many tools - spells, ninjitsu, spirit attacks, transformations, items - that straight up let you bypass the typical soulslike song and dance of observing and reacting to enemies, that combat starts to feel rote and perfunctory. Yes, I could limit myself to samurai form only and experience a much more challenging game. But I'm not built that way, and the game should probably be balanced better if I have to not use the game's new feature to experience any sort of challenge or engaging gameplay. The level design is not aggressively bad, but it's rarely more than a wide corridor. Even Lies of P had more interesting level design, frankly. The game absolutely showers you with elixers and checkpoints, so you never really feel that tension of hoping you're close to a checkpoint. Encounter design is also largely absent. Having to fight more than one or two enemies at a time is so extremely rare, it basically doesn't happen until the final map. Enemy variety is also lacking. You'll see the same handful of enemies over and over again, and once you've discovered the best way to deal with them you can just keep doing that throughout the game. Maybe NG+ is where it gets suddenly challenging or interesting, but that won't fix the map design, and I don't think wading through 40 or 50 hours of an average game is a reasonable ask. I wanted to like this a lot more! I really enjoyed the demo and bought the game off of that, but that's basically the best part of the game. Sadly the full game left me feeling pretty disappointed. Like eating a meal and still feeling hungry. I'd only recommend this on a 50% or more discount.

Nioh 3: Monumental, Magnificent, and Marginally Overstuffed After years of refinement, Team Ninja has finally delivered their magnum opus, a game where the legendary combat system has been honed to absolute perfection. This is the series at its most confident, most polished, and most exhilarating. The combat is simply flawless. Building on everything that worked before, Nioh 3 introduces the brilliant duality of Samurai and Ninja styles, letting you switch between traditional stance-based warfare and lightning-fast aerial acrobatics on the fly. The depth is staggering, the flow is intoxicating, and the feeling of mastering its rhythm is unmatched. This is the absolute peak of the series' mechanical design. https://youtu.be/llA3DynUO7Y The move to interconnected open zones transforms exploration into a genuine joy. Exploration is genuinely rewarding, with every hidden path, enemy base, and optional boss feeding into a satisfying progression loop that constantly makes you stronger. The world is vast - almost too vast. I wouldn't have minded if they trimmed it slightly, because the progression system starts to lose its magic halfway through. When you've already unlocked most of your toolkit, the later hours can feel like going through the motions rather than genuine growth. Enemy variety is solid, with a good roster of foes to test your skills. However, the number of truly new enemies is surprisingly limited. The main story bosses, however, are spectacular- epic, challenging, and beautifully designed encounters that rank among the series' finest. The story? Sadly, it's the weakest link. Despite the ambitious time-travel premise, the narrative feels rushed and forgettable compared to previous entries. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3665504063 One persistent annoyance: the back hitbox for critical strikes in Ninja stance is infuriatingly small. Time and again, you'll position yourself perfectly behind an enemy, ready for those juicy critical hits, only to land regular, non-critical strikes instead because the game doesn't register your position as "behind." The hitbox for what counts as an enemy's back is absurdly narrow. After much frustration, I discovered a small life hack: always aim slightly left of the enemy's spine. For some reason, that's where the game actually recognizes you as being behind them. In a game this precise, such a finicky mechanic is genuinely frustrating. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3664366478 Despite its flaws, Nioh 3 stands as the series' crowning achievement. It takes everything that worked in its predecessors, polishes it to a brilliant sheen, and delivers the definitive Nioh experience. If you're new to the series, you can absolutely start here without missing a beat—it's that complete, that refined, that monumental. A flawed masterpiece that still soars higher than any game in the franchise before it.

Tutorial was nice, good gameplay. Just over the 2 hour mark the game becomes unplayable. Lags like hell. Edit: I wouldn't call my PC a Potato. It is still decently specced and lets be honest, a game the size of NIOH 3 and its graphics should run fine on even weaker setups. My pc runs Ghost of Tsushima without a single hickup and elden ring too and others.

A visual performance from 2016. Yet it requires computer hardware standards from 2026. Even when using 2026 computer hardware, gameplay remains riddled with stuttering and lag. And you're telling me this game costs 60 bucks? Ridiculous.

Review after 60 hours and all achievements TL;DR play Nioh 2 instead, it is the definitive Nioh game, and action combat game. I can't believe I am writing a negative review for a Nioh game, I never thought this day would come but here we are. No, this isn't a review saying "performance is awful please fix and don't buy until it is." While it does have horrible performance on a 9800X3D and a 5090, this isn't that kind of review. But this is the poor performance warning out of the way. If the Devs fixed this game in the next hour to run buttery smooth, I would STILL not recommend this game. I am a huge fan of Nioh, I first played it back on the PS4 with the very, very first Alpha test; You know the one? The one where you didn't keep facing an enemy when locked on, enemies could sprint anywhere on the stage and not lose an ounce of ki, where whetstones were necessary from stopping your weapon from breaking and there was no familiarity system in place. Yeah, practically ten years ago when it happened in 2016. Ten years later we get Nioh 3. After I beat it and got all the achievements, I set my controller down and the first thing I said to myself was "what in the world did I just play?" The answer was not Nioh, honestly. This game went through some massive changes, changes that were made to appeal to a more mainstream audience. When a game tries to appeal to many people, it shouldn't really please anyone because it isn't targeting any specific demographic. Let's start with how the game and mechanics are introduced. In the first two games, you have the dead bodies that talk about how they died, or what you could do to help learn the game. When new things are added and introduced, the game told you about them, but didn't think you were dumb enough to be given a walkthrough on what to do. Everything to the Onmyo, and Ninjitsu; all the way to the skills and other mechanics. It was all introduced SLOWLY to not overwhelm a new a player. Well Nioh 3 mostly tosses that out the window I recall a minimum of three times you just get a text box dump tutorial and the game FORCES you to open your windows and do whatever it tells you to. So already they are treating the player like a dummy. The next complaint is the open world. I know people for some reason like open world with a cheklist of things to do. But for a game like Nioh? It hurt the game MASSIVELY. You get three open regions that is right three only. Each are roughly the size of a region and a half or so in Nioh 1 and 2. You are now given a jump button for the most worthless "exploration" possible. It's not worth it, it's not fun, it doesn't add anything and it isn't complex enough to justify its existence. Then on top of that you have those spirit veins that require other spirits to even traverse them. Like why? Why can't every region be self contained? Another problem the open world has is something that goes back to a complaint to the first two Nioh games. I always understood, but never really agreed with was level design. Everyone thought the levels were bland to look at. The problem was that the levels were mostly designed for fun encounters first, looks second. I would rather have a fun environment to traverse and fight in, rather than being the prettiest but intensely boring areas. Well unfortunately you get both of those with Nioh 3. You get extremely ugly environments, but they weren't handcrafted for a mission and they're horrendously boring. There were really only two missions in the whole game I actually finally felt like I was playing a Nioh game in. Of course this was coming, but difficulty. I can excuse easier difficulty if the the game was top notch fun. Unfortunately it just isn't it. It takes a lot longer to get going than any other previous Nioh game with the shortness of locks in the beginning to skill into things. Because of this I almost quit the game about 15 to 20 hours in because it was just so slow. Another thing is the entire butchering of a moveset since jumping and Ninjitsu forms exist now. Every ninja weapon was butchered and watered down to a single stance and three ninjitsu only. Another example of mass appeal by making the game less complex, but giving power to them so they can still do good damage. Now I suppose I am probably almost alone in this, I never used Ninja mode except to run around because I was faster as a Ninja. But 80% of graves are Ninja. So clearly Team Ninja realized a simpler game would be the better choice. A decision that wouldn't bother me if it was implemented in any game that WASN'T Nioh. Also, I did this in 60 hours. I remember Nioh 1 & 2 base games taking much longer than that. So this game has a severe lack of content on top of that. Also I felt like it had LESS enemy variety than Nioh 2 did at launch! They loved one Yokai so much they reskinned it FOUR times! Even by Nioh 1 standards which didn't have a huge roster, that is pathetic. Overall for a Nioh game it is painfully average, and a step down from its predecessors in every way. What was an intense mission based game with tight combat, stylized levels with their own gimmicks to make them interesting. Is now a boring open world game with a checklist of things to do, no difficult enemies anywhere to give you a challenge, and a completely butchered combat system. This game definitely is for the mass appeal, but unfortunately the reason I fell in love with the games to begin with is mostly all gone. I really hope they continue these experimental games outside the Nioh franchise, because if Nioh 3 is a glimpse of the future of the franchise, I would rather it comes to an end instead.

PLEASE for the love of god just stick to ONE formula and try to master it instead of throwing millions of useless and mid mechanics in every single new game

Alright, let's get this done... Nioh 2 is one of my favorite games of all time, but I tried to enter the newest game in the series with an open mind. Games age, mechanics can be improved, that kind of thing, so why not see what changes they can make for the better, you know? The problem isn't that Nioh 3 is terrible; it runs fine and looks great. The issue with this game is that it doesn't feel like a Nioh game. The elements are there, but by changing it to open world, the game feels more like Rise of The Ronin... only with demons in it. That's when the real problems start. With the rare exception of battle scroll missions, which mimic the forced play areas of a singular "level" as Nioh 2 used to do, Nioh 3 is a collection of fetch quests, including the horrendous sight of enemy camps that can be cleared out and add to an "exploration" percentage for increased rewards. It takes the worst of an Ubisoft open world title and meshes it with the reaction speed required of a souls game and, to be blunt, this game's combat system simply cannot handle what is being asked of it sometimes. The camera will get stuck, enemies will clip or get caught in level geometry when trying to move around you, and the ability to jump, which Nioh 2 (and 1) did not have, only makes most of the combat worse. There are interesting ideas here, such as the "Crucible", but for each good change, there seems to be a misstep. Those crucibles, for example, are really two types of very different design: A "Lesser" one, which is a glorified combat arena against enemy waves, or actual sealed Crucibles which are story-locked and more closely match entire levels of their own. In either one, you have a chance of finding the similarly named "Crucible Weapons", which have a special ability you can only get by maxing that items level (called "familiarity" in Nioh). The problem is the same as Nioh games always had; though loot drops often, finding what you want is random, and even boosting drop rates rarely helps unless you plan on farming for them. This is made worse by weapon classes, armor, and magic being locked to which "style" you are currently in. So, yes, let's get to the worst decision here beyond the open world and be done with it. In the first two games, you could equip any weapon or magic. In this game, you are limited by which style you are in: Samurai or Ninja. This also forces types of equipment, meaning that some heavier armor is only for the Samurai, while lighter armor you may want to use in that same style can only be used when playing as the "Ninja" instead. As for weapons, only the Ninja can use things like the Kusarigama (blade and chain), while the Samurai is the only one who can use most heavier weapons like the Odachi (large katana). It is a needless change that only seems to be there to force you to use the other style. In all honesty, unless I accidently held the style shift button too long, I did not use the Ninja set at all. It's a mess, and the locking of magic to the Ninja class means certain builds using Samurai gear are outright impossible now. And this is without getting into the issues New Game+ has, or that some individual moves, such as the counter ability of "Haze" sometimes missing when the camera shifts, are just infuriating to deal with on their own. This is all a very long way to say that it didn't need to be this way. Rise of the Ronin is already out, and it has the open world Team Ninja seemed to want to make handled, so pushing these changes onto Nioh as well doesn't make sense. Especially if they are going to function in a way that seems to run counter to the spirit of these games to begin with.

SSD M.2 ADATA XPG GAMMIX S11 Pro ( 1 TB ) 6. ЛЮБЫE тoксичныe/прoвoкационныe кoммeнтapии от нулевoй-рaзбитнoй-спинномозговой шпaны, НE умeющей фильтрoвaть свои слова, будут УДАЛЕНЫ и приведут ТОЛЬКО к ПOЖИЗНEННOМУ БAHУ!

Nioh 3 is a game I like but struggle to love. Where Nioh 2 was one of those perfect sequels that does everything right and perfectly expands on everything you loved before, Nioh 3 goes in bold new directions that don't always hit the mark. I think this is a good and fun game, but it's a step back overall from what came before in many ways. Firstly, the gameplay. It's Nioh, so you know it's the cream of the crop when it comes to action combat in a soulslike. In terms of new additions, your large arsenal of potential weapons have been split in two; ninja style and samurai style, with samurai being the classic Nioh styled gameplay with ki pulses and stances and ninja being a fast, agile style with rechargeable ninja skills that can vary from projectiles to traps and are pretty fun to use. This new two style combat system compliments itself perfectly with samurai bringing the power and ninja bringing the utility; is what I would say if that was true but in reality ninja is just infinitely better than samurai. Not only is it much more ki efficient, despite having no ki pulse to restore ki it uses significantly less ki for its moves; it has a much better dodge that can restore ninja skills making it the better defensive option. It has no lack of offense either, as it's more than entirely replaced low stance by still having the power of mid stance, making your offense much faster than almost anything offered in samurai style. You're faster, stronger, have the better dodge and to top it all off still have the ninjitsu which offers even more offensive utility, unless you really love one of the samurai weapons it doesn't really feel worth using it. For me, I loved the tonfa in the first two games, which are now a ninja exclusive weapon which railroaded me into mostly playing ninja which really highlighted the imbalance here. Originally I was playing both stances off and on but eventually playing as the samurai just stopped feeling worth it. Other than this change the combat is mostly the same as Nioh 2, jumping is a positive new addition for both traversal and combat options; still the pinnacle of soulslike combat, just a little more confused this time around. The story is really unremarkable, I quite liked the story and characters of the first two games but seeing the same characters return for a third time is just starting to feel lazy, and the narrative centering around time hopping to different periods of ancient Japan mostly just makes it all feel disjointed, disconnected, and like most of what's happening isn't really that important. The player character is left in a confusing middle state between the typical silent custom character and actually being a guy, which doesn't help the disconnected feeling. Sometimes they'll talk or form their own thought, but most of the time they're just blankly standing there not saying, doing, or thinking anything and having it both ways makes it stand out more when they're just idling their brain. A contentious point has been every game in this genre pivoting towards open world formulas since Elden Ring, and as someone who also really doesn't like open worlds, I too was fearful of this aspect but was glad to find it mostly unobtrusive here. When Elden Ring came out I did one hundred percent completion, several playthroughs back to back, and was able to enjoy it because I had the important locations memorized at the time. Trying to go back to play the game again a few years later, I just couldn't stand all the riding around looking for things off the main path; open worlds just don't sit well with me and I prefer a more structured design. Fortunately in Nioh 3, the design is less 'one giant open world' and more three giant, really really big levels with several missions and areas to explore inside. There's a fairly straightforward main path to follow that will often lead you across the many sub-paths and side quests and other areas and bosses, while never feeling like you need to blunder around or waste time running across a bunch of nothingness waiting to find the fun stuff to do. You do have to do some exploring to unlock some skills for your weapons which feels like just taking content away from you that was available in the previous games to pad out the world with, but it's really not that bad as they're pretty easy to get and mean you're meaningfully rewarded when you do poke around. The real benefit to this structure, of course, is it gives you lots of time to enjoy the great soundtrack. Performance was a little shaky for me, I don't have the best computer in the world as you can see from my specs, but should have been able to maintain 60fps and for the most part I did, with occasional dips though the main issue for me was pop-in; sometimes areas and objects just in front of me would pop in and out of existence which was pretty distracting. Overall, it's a good game. I mean, it's just more Nioh, and Nioh rocks. This is still the best combat in the genre, it's fun to move around and jump and traverse areas; if Nioh 2 didn't exist, this would be an ideal sequel. Unfortunately, Nioh 2 does exist, and with so much reuse from it in this game the most important recommendation I can make is to play Nioh 2. If Nioh 3 is your first Nioh game, play Nioh 2. If you've never played a Nioh game and are on the fence with this one, play Nioh 2. If you played Nioh and Nioh 2 and just want more Nioh, Nioh 3 delivers. It lacks real innovation in moving the series forward, but gives you a good serving of Nioh for the Nioh starved.

4/10 game I do not know why people are giving this game a pass on being good. The open world has done nothing to improve the overall quality of the game. The best thing I can say about it is that, it lets you go anywhere you want without holding your hand... But so has most every other souls like that has come out recently. The minimap they give you is worthless and is just a black orb that shows items you can pick up, why not just have it be like an actual minimap? The one positive I can say about the map is that it logs everything after you run through an area, so it eliminates you having to search for most stuff most everything will be logged for you so you don't have to put markers down to remember where things are. As for the enemies If you played nioh 1, or nioh 2, then you have fought every single enemy in this game, there is exactly 1 new enemy that they have added in the second area of the game and it is criminally easy. You will be fighting the same thing at level 1 that you will at level 200. It makes every single area in this game uninteresting and repetitive because it does not try to change up the formula at all and craft enemies for specific areas. The story is also meaningless as it is the SAME story from nioh 1 AND nioh 2. nioh 1 the story starts off with you getting betrayed by some guy you never met, nioh 2 you actually play with the guy who betrays you for 1 level, then in nioh 3 you get to do 1 training sequence with the guy, then he betrays you. It is tired and unoriginal. Then they start doing time hopping and the story just feels aimless and confusing after that. None of the characters really matter in it because after 1 era most of them you will never see again, so why bother remembering them. The best thing about this game and all the other nioh games is the combat. The way they have every weapon feel unique and interesting is masterful and the combos are so fun to do. The magic is also crazy strong in this game and the nina arts are awesome, that is the only reason to keep playing. But sadly you will find a weapon you like more than others and spells that are just objectively better than all the rest and it will get stale and boring because there is no new enemies to test your metal. So even the combat is sullied by the lack of variety. TL:DR: No new enemies, uninteresting open world, meaningless character, repeat of the same story from nioh 1 and 2. Combat is fun though but you will get bored of it after 20hrs when you beat map 1 of 5.

Played Nioh 1 demo/alpha during ps4 days, instant buy on release, loved it Waited PC release +1year later, instant buy and completed on both platforms +dlc Same with Nioh 2, ps4 version first and completed it, waited 1year for PC release, same story. Finally Nioh 3 releases on consoles and PC at the same time. Game is fun and not basic "hur dur its roll slop soulslike" nope, its diablo loot mixed with ninja gaiden. Played so many "soulslike" games, and Nioh series is still far better in my opinion because the combat system with plenty of weapons and magic/ninjutsu + loot crazyness. Nioh 3 is now open world like Rise of Ronin from same company, its fun to explore and do stuff on your own pace, instead click on next mission node and so on. Highly recommend if you like these kinda games, Nioh 1 and 2 werent that popular unlike dark soul series, because the skill ceiling is much higher and learning curve, but its worth it imo.

A bit heartbroken leaving this review but I unfortunately was not the biggest fan of this game. Nioh 2 is my most played game (on ps5) and one of my favorite games of all time! The combat/bosses/enemies and mission structure was all perfect for me. Once Nioh 3 was announced I couldn't believe it and my excitement went through the roof! So I'll break this down in categories that are most important to me and assuming most Nioh players: Combat: 8.5/10 The combat is still amazing and the addition of ninja mode is interesting. It doesn't feel as tight as Nioh 2 but overall this is still excellent. I do feel like the weapons being tied to either samurai/ninja wasn't the best move. Would've rather maybe seen different moves attached to either samurai/ninja for the same weapons. Having a jump button I thought would be super cool but for some reason didn't add much as the enemies logic doesn't account for it. Parrying feels great in samurai mode. Bosses: 3/10 Nioh isn't necessarily known for the strongest bosses in soulsborne styles games but man the ones in this game were just poor. Not a single memorable boss and then repeating bosses from previous games that are much easier to defeat? It just feels lazy that they just chose to bring those back. Nioh 1/2 had a few memorable bosses where this game every boss fight feels the same. Enemy Variety: 4/10 This one might have been the biggest disappointment because you spend almost 80% fighting the same exact enemy types and the logic behind a crowd of enemies is that they take turns. I just felt burnt out fighting the same stupid skeletons over and over and was upset the newer enemy types hardly show up. Mission/Open Field Structure: 6/10 Initially during the first 8-10 hours I was very impressed with the open field and thought it was a more focused/tight feeling version of ubisoft games. But then at some point the importance of discovery was less important as you continue the game. Luckily fast travel is very easy and there are shrines everywhere. But level design to me tanked in the 2nd and 3rd area and those were more straight forward and for a game in 2026 I felt like they could've made it more interesting. Performance: 6/10 I played the demo and thought it ran beautifully and felt excited that we will finally get a big optimized game on launch! Unfortunately on launch and the more I played it was all over the place. Framerate was up and down and I am running a 4090 high spec build. I didn't have any crashes luckily but it was definitely a mixed bag. Graphically the game also looks a bit dated which im not too upset about for a combat focused game but performance needs to be much better. I wont rate the story because honestly I don't play any of these games for story but rather the topics I discussed above. Overall, I would say this is not a BAD game but comparing to 2 it is a step down. Maybe if you are playing nioh for the first time this might be the most approachable and your experience could be different.

Not Recommended f**k you team ninja for not caring about Linux players, in days where every respectable gamer moves away from Windows' sh*tty monopoly and AI slop. Why Not Recommended There's absolutely nothing I can complain in terms of gameplay, content, quality of open world, so I will skip these and get straight to the core. Note: All tests were done on 3440x1440 resolution Graphics are fairly outdated if that's something you care about. As in, they absolutely suck and lighting does all the aesthetic work. Turn off global illumination and you'll feel like playing a 2012 game. The game is, sadly, very unoptimized. I can run 60FPS native given global illumination set on low and volumetric clouds on low. But 120FPS stable? no chance. And it's extremely jarring that the game speed is related to a multiple of 60. You either go 60fps or 120fps, any value between affects the game speed in unexplainable ways. For example, 90FPS causes literal slow-mo. It's horrendous, it's jarring, and it's honestly dissapointing to see that in 2026. But yeah, this is what you get for 80 euros today. Re-tested on ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 5070Ti On Windows, I was able to run at constant 120 with 1% lows at 118fps, on full native. On Linux, the story is f**king sour. Ran like crap. 80-90fps, with 45 1% lows. Nvidia users are forced to play this game on Winslop, as Linux drivers for Nvidia somehow net around ~20-30% performance loss. Re-tested on Linux with AMD Radeon 9070 XT Sapphire Nitro+ Game ran like dogsh*t. According to ProtonDB, other users and me included are having horrible performance MAINLY caused by Linux because the devs did not bother doing jacksh*t for Linux users. On Windows it is fine. Finally... It's safe to assume that the game is just severely unoptimized for Linux. Very dissapointing. Have fun playing this game on a Steam Machine at more than 60fps. 120 will not be possible. Why? Because it runs Linux.
