PROS + The campaign is far better than those of Gears 4 and 5 + One of the best visual showcases for Unreal Engine 5 + Gameplay changes add more depth to combat, since you can customize your weapons and gear + The story nails the portrayal of the Locust Horde's brutality and humanity's desperation in the face of this new enemy + The new weapons feel great to use + Bosses are tough and require strategy to defeat + The game now features open areas with secondary objectives and a map CONS - Solo play has some drawbacks, as the squad AI isn't as smart as it should be - There are some technical bugs that need fixing; one related to Frame Generation was patched today at launch - Open areas are much more demanding on performance than linear ones; I recommend enabling Frame Gen when playing in them Overall, it’s a great return for Gears, featuring its best campaign since the original trilogy, which, imo, is still better. I can't comment on multiplayer or Horde mode, as they were unavailable until today.

The vibes/gameplay and graphics are all top tier, they actually cooked with this one. They optimized the heck out of this from the beta, runs great on Steam Machine now at 1440p with FSR4

They missed the target audience with this one. This story is what happens when the companies that make the products are not staffed by people who these products are made for. The game on LUDICROUS graphic settings runs at 30-45 fps 4k with DLAA on. This PC is overclocked and utilizing a 5090, 64GB DDR5 6400 MT/s, 9800X3D 5.7ghz stable overclock. Being forced to use frame generation is like taking one step forward and two steps back.

A phenomenal comeback for the "Gears" franchise. I played the Open Beta and it completely exceeded my expectations with just how polished and responsive the gameplay already felt. Brutal, fast-paced combat, insanely satisfying chainsaw finishers, crisp next-gen visuals, and absolutely killer sound design. Compared to the recent "Gears of War: Reloaded", this genuinely feels like a true next-gen Gears experience. Gears is so back.

Разработчикам The Coalition респект.

So far disappointed. I cant even launch the game to get to the main menu... I press play and the easy anti cheat pops up and goes away after around a minute and then nothing happens. I try again and get an error that the game is still executing or attempting to. Steam does not show that it is running in this state, nor xbox app. I have the most recent graphics driver 617.14. The game is set to where it should run as administrator and still nothing happens and i have to restart my entire pc because i essentially have a ghost program i cant fully shut down running in the background, High upset. considering i paid for the premium edition to play early and i simply cannot play at all. If anyone has any ideas that would be great but my review will stay as a POS until i can launch and actually play the game. Windows defender and other anti virus software doesnt even recognize the game as a program so im not sure if they are attempting to block the game.

E-Day is the Gears game I have wanted since the original trilogy. Fourteen years before Gears of War, Marcus and Dom are in Kalona when the ground opens up, and you live through the city falling apart in real time. It is the darkest, most horror-driven Gears has been since 2006, and it works. Movement is the big upgrade. Sliding, vaulting, mantling and climbing feel fluid in a way Gears never has, while the weight and crunch of the combat are fully intact. Firefights turn into scrappy, fast-moving fights across multiple levels instead of static cover trades. The campaign mixes tight linear set pieces with semi-open stretches of downtown Kalona, and the balance is right. Special enemies show up often enough to keep you on your toes, so no encounter plays out quite how you planned. Visually it is stunning on PC. Lighting, city detail and character work are some of the best I have seen in any game, and the squad gets real time to breathe between the big moments. Marcus and Dom's relationship carries a lot of weight, especially knowing where Dom's story goes. Campaign runs roughly 15 to 16 hours and supports one to four players in co-op, which is the best way to play it. If you love Gears, this is a must. If you are new, this is the place to start.

If you love the origional gears campaigns then you are really going to enjoy this latest iteration. I am only on act 2 part 3 as of writing this review but so far I am really loving this games campaign. Not jumped into the muliplayer side of the game yet as I got the game primarily to play the campaign. Performance is excellent. I had 1 crash when i first started the game but after that the game has been butter smooth. I am playing at 4k resolution with default settings applied by the game. I highly recommend getting this game if you enjoyed the origional trilogy and I will update my initial review upon completion of the campagin.

The beta had me worried, but after 10 hours split between Versus and the campaign I’m happy to say this game is great. The visuals are incredible and it keeps the gritty, brutal tone that made Gears what it is. It feels true to the series instead of toning things down to fit today’s “politically correct” gaming climate. My only real concern so far is optimization. Even at 4K with everything set to low in versus, I’m averaging around 150–170 FPS. That’s certainly playable but I expected better performance at the lowest settings. Overall, I’m really enjoying it. If they can tighten up performance I’ll have very little to complain about.

This game has actually surprised me in many ways: graphics, blood, story, performance and optimization, cutscenes. I feel this is one of the best game release in a while. I was very impressed. im running all graphics on max settings 60fps in 4k. i have i7 14700 nvidia 4090 16gb and 32 gb ram. 10/10 and might be better than the originals.... id buy every remake if they were "rebooted" to look and feel like this game. Developers seem to care about their franchise. More blood in the next game pls.

Amazing game, takes me back to the original trilogy in terms of feel. Played a near 6 hour session and mainly played campaign and two siege horde missions. I haven’t tried PvP, but everything I have tried is solid. Graphics are good and there are a lot of options to tweak it to fit your performance / fps want. Audio is great. Gameplay feels so smooth and has me playing on a controller again. The only complaint is general launch bugs. I had 3 game freeze and crashes in this session. The game does let you rejoin a campaign in progress or a siege in progress, so it wasn’t as bad as it could be.

After many years of waiting, hoping, praying, and wishing for a Gears of War game that truly feels like the old days (with a heavier tone and atmosphere) The Coalition has finally delivered. The story, while not quite as emotionally charged or as well-paced as Gears of War 2 and 3, manages to stand alongside some of the greatest stories the Gears of War franchise has told. It delivers on the idea that previous games put into our heads of just how awful E-Day was for the people of Sera. The side characters are well-written, although some could have benefited from more screen time to fully make their resolutions feel impactful. Overall, the story alone makes this game worth playing in my opinion. But the game doesn't stop there. Horde Siege, which I clocked around 40 hours of during the beta, has been further fleshed out in the full release, with different maps and more customization options that allow for different builds and playstyles. Admittedly, I haven't gone too deep into the other game modes beyond the campaign and what I played during the beta. However, as I said before, the story alone makes E-Day a worthwhile experience. The multiplayer components are essentially another whole layer added on top of an already solid package, giving the game even more to offer beyond its campaign. I will try to keep this review updated as time goes by and the other areas of the game marinate in my mind a little more.

Strong return to form, immersive experience, totally dominant graphics , same old gears, new visuals! I comment only on singleplayer as i only care about the campaign, for now its a positive experience.

Played to Act 3 Chapter 1 on Insane and I have to say the difficulty feels just right, although I will say at times it kinda still feels a little easier than previous entries (mostly the original trilogy). The story is fantastic, you truly do feel that hopelessness that all of Sera felt during E-Day. There's never a moment where you feel like some sort of superhero, the stakes are incredibly high at all times. Atmosphere wise this might be the best TC has ever been at hitting that Gears feeling the Original trilogy had, it's not oversaturated like basically every other game they've made/every single AAA game as of late. It has a VERY strong art direction where it gives it a different vibe over just being "hyper realistic". Versus feels great to play too, although it suffers from the optimization issues listed below, unfortunately UE5 just doesn't run well so it causes it to not be great to play visually with lower end settings just to get a solid high fps. Though I'm not super experienced in the Versus past the beta, the few matches I did play were very VERY enjoyable. Horde Siege is a great mode too, the big issue with it though is once again the constant low frames since you're on such a massive map. The boss fights are really cool, although I do wish the multiple squads had more of an incentive to actually work together. All this game needs is optimization, everything else feels fantastic. Larger areas tank your fps by almost 20-30 at times, also overall it's quite a struggle to hit 100fps minimum in any mode with DLSS active and everything at high, its usually around the 70 range with a 4070. I refuse to use framegen although I'm sure it helps. Also please add a way to possibly disable RTX? I can't understand this decision since the shaders aren't completely reliant on them as is, it just causes horrible fps drops on cards when we don't even have the choice to remove them. TLDR: Highly recommend, needs optimizations, but overall is an INCREDIBLY solid experience with a lot of replayability thus far
