Best argument for
The most helpful review from a veteran (10+ hours at review)Best argument against
The most helpful review from a veteran (10+ hours at review)I've been thinking about how to start my review for a long time. As a long-time fan of the series who has been playing since Forza Motorsport 2, who has played every game since then (including the Horizon series), who has pre-ordered the Ultimate Edition of every game, and who has invested thousands of hours of playtime in the series, I am at a loss for words. This is my first Forza that I've played mostly on PC, where I can switch between PC and Series X thanks to Cross Progression. Turn 10 has promised a lot in the past, the trailers often looked better than the finished games, but never has the gap been as wide as it is with this installment. At no point does the game look even remotely as good as the original trailers, even with the maximum details on PC it doesn't come close to the video footage shown in marketing events. Visually, the game fluctuates from "quite respectable" to "really bad", the latter especially when a vehicle model appears again somewhere that was copied over from an old game. "From the ground up new" this is not. The "career mode" is one of the most boring campaigns I've played in the genre, the AI drivers are dumber than ever and the content has been greatly reduced. Fewer tracks, vehicles and features but more bugs than ever. Crashes, disappearing track textures and geometry etc. are part of the game experience here, the list of known bugs is longer than some PhD thesis. Something must have gone wrong during the long development time. It remains to be seen whether Turn 10 can pull it out of the mud. At this point, I wouldn't recommend the game even to fans.

What a train wreck of a game. Crippling bugs, crashes, poor performance on high end system.. Simply had to refund. Maybe once they actually complete the game I will purchase it again on special for $20

Unfortunately, Forza Motorsport 8 feels like a major step back for the series. Instead of the high-quality racing simulator everyone was expecting, we got a rushed product full of issues. The first thing you notice is the lack of content. The car roster and track selection feel noticeably limited for a game of this scale, and the variety of modes leaves a lot to be desired. Many features that were standard in previous entries are either heavily stripped down or missing entirely. Then there's the progression system, which is just flat-out boring and grindy. You're forced to drive the same car over and over again just to unlock basic upgrades. This kills the excitement and flow that Forza is supposed to deliver and makes the whole experience feel like a chore. Optimization isn't much better either, even on high-end PCs, there are FPS drops, stuttering, and other performance hiccups that shouldn't be happening. In the end, Forza Motorsport 8 feels more like an incomplete live-service project that's maybe going to be finished later down the line. But for a full-price launch title, it's hard to recommend. If you were hoping for a rich, polished racing experience with engaging progression, this isn't it. Better to wait for discounts or some serious updates.

This review may be changed over the course of time depending on the actions Turn10 Studios will take. At 18-11-2023 I am posting this as a NEGATIVE review. Right now, with the current state of the game and compared to olders titles all the way back to Forza Motorsport 2 when I started, this game is nowhere close to the quality of previous titles. The Gameplay: It's "ok" and still is Forza but there have been changes made that simply do not make any sense and frankly are just plain annoying after a short while. For example, you have to get "Car XP" for every single car you own. This means you have to unlock all the upgrades for every car over and over again. The annoying thing is that in the past you could just buy the upgrades depending on your driver level. Meaning that eventually you could just buy it all for all the vehicles. While I can understand you want a bit more progession to be involved, this aint it chief. To make things worse, some core upgrades like tire compound are made so expensive that you often refrain from it for quite some time. This while tire compounds appear to have a major role in the game (which is actually nice). The races are plain and simple, straight forward. But the AI is not so 'dynamic' and 'evolving' as they said it would be. It's actually very easy AI even on the most difficult setting despite me being an average player at best. Now the AI has a few 'modes' while racing them. 1. RACING LINE OR BUST. They will ram you as much as they can to get you off the track. 2. You got the corner? I AM OFF TO NARNIA! Yeah the AI just divebombs into the gravel/grass or even the wall without being close to them simply because you had the racing line on the corner. 3. I'M JUST ENJOYING THE RIDE! Meaning, they just cruise around slowly.... They are not going for the best possible times they can get. Now onto the driving itself..... and yeah.... CARS ARE NOT ON ICESKATES. Some cars tend to just feel like you're driving on ice. This get's A LOT WORSE WHEN USING A WHEEL. I've made many laps in several vehicles on both controller and my G920 and I couldn't help but notice that when using a wheel there is simply no grip at all. Even if you mimic the input to your controller, the car just refuses to steer and starts gliding off the track like you're driving on ice. "Git gud" many said at the start but now most of us agree, wheel setups don't work right now. FFB is BROKEN. When it works it's nice, but after a few laps it tends to just shutdown and randomly reappear again. Graphics and Sound: As many said, graphics are a mile off. While I've had some tracks that looked quite good and with some weather events involved even quite beautifull, this is a rare instance. I would say that Forza Motorsport 3 looks better in quite some ways than some tracks and, unfortunately, cars look. Sound overall decent but not that great. I did notice that on some car classes the brakes sound like a nitrous injection which is just weird. Performance: Shambles, it's not optimized at all and framerate can dip in low 40s for me in Ultra while the graphics themselves are nowhere near other games that run so much better. (I7 13700k, 32GB RAM @ 4200, RTX 3080 installed on M.2 NVME, RES: 3440x1440) RTX is not noticeable at all so rather just disable that. DLSS seems not to do anything and as mentioned, the game doesn't even look that good. If I were to boot up Project Cars, Assetto Corsa Competitione or heck even Forza Horizon 5 they just look so much better. Note: Forza Horizon 5 works like a dream and looks a lot better, I don't get how to got it so wrong here. Multiplayer: Is a lot of fun. Best part so far especially thanks to the safety ratings. However, the penalty system needs work as players who tend to charge in like the Hulk get no pentalties but their victims do. Unfortunately this happened to me once so far. Content: Drip feeding content but also straight up lacking loads of content. Forza 7 has disappeared but we lack tracks and cars. So many inconic tracks that have always been in the titles are now missing or being released much later on (like Nordschleife). I can't understand why this game lacks so much. Overall: Like Gran Turismo 7 that has been out for 2 years now. This game needs work and after all that work it hopefully will be fine. But right now I just cannot recommend the game despite loving the Forza Motorsport series. This game made me step into Gran Turisme 7 as I never owned any of those titles before.

Complete trash game with a lot of serious issues even after their patch to fix it. I wasted over $100 on this and even had friends buy it too. Never again. I'm done with forza. Could not refund because I waited, in good faith, for them to fix the game and it had too many hours on it due to troubleshooting and waiting for shaders to compile every launch, and I had to launch a lot due to memory leak crashes.

Don't waste your hard earned money on this Developer or game. They are betting on you overspending on their indecent title. There is some fun to be had here, but for the sake of yourself, I would wait until the game hits the -70% sales as it isn't even worth it at half price. There isn't anything here to get you to pay that price, but they will keep using manipulative marketing to try and get you. There's more fun on a random, frozen moon in Starfield than there is to be had here. We really need to stop giving Pre-Order Money to these developers so their incentive is to finish and complete a game rather than run off with the pre order money and only fix small bugs every now and then. Ignore their Hype Commercials and Ads. Stop handing these indecent developers money they do not deserve. You worked hard for it. (!) Senna is going off the corner in his grave right now. (!)

Unbalanced $100 Million “Built from the Ground Up” Disappointment (yes, even well over a year and 20 updates after release) Despite a massive production budget of over $100 million, a long development cycle, and a premium price tag, I cannot recommend Forza Motorsport 2023 due to several critical issues. I’ve spent over 400 hours thoroughly testing every aspect of the game so you don’t have to. I could write a novel about it, but let’s keep it “short.” Critical Flaws: 1. AI does not mimic real racing experience: Inconsistent AI Difficulty The AI difficulty is highly inconsistent and varies depending on the combination of tracks, cars, performance index, weather conditions, grid positions and many others factors. One race at difficulty level 8 might feel very easy, while another at the same level could feel nearly impossible to win. Unbalanced AI Performance In almost every race, 1–2 Drivatars perform unrealistically well and offer a real challenge, while the rest are significantly slower and easy to overtake. It feels like you’re racing against 2 real opponents and the rest are just “background actors.” Poor AI Starts The AI starts very slowly from the grid and tends to remain in a two-file formation for the first few corners. If the first corner is a hairpin or tight turn, they often crash into each other. No Tire Strategy in Dynamic Weather The AI lacks tire strategy. For example, if the rain stops in the final laps, they all pit to change tires unnecessarily, often throwing away the race. Weak Overtaking Logic The AI struggles to overtake both other AI and the player. If you start at the front of the grid, your chances of winning are significantly higher. Track-Specific Issues On some tracks (e.g., Sunset Peninsula, Kyalami, Lime Rock) under some circumstances (e.g., all the same car model race), the AI frequently runs wide and goes off course. Collision Behavior When Drivatars collide with your car, they don’t attempt to avoid you or slow down — they simply keep pushing and ramming as if you’re not even there. AI Stops Competing After Being Overtaken Once you pass the last AI opponent, it often feels like they stop fighting and slow down, making the rest of the race feel lifeless and unchallenging. 2. The Performance Index system breaks down on specific tracks The Performance Index (PI) concept falls apart on tracks like Le Mans, where cars with higher top speeds have a massive advantage, or Fujimi Kaido, where cars with superior grip dominate. Ideally, PI should be track-specific rather than universal, as different tracks emphasize different performance characteristics. 3. Overpowered “Meta” Cars Break Competitive Balance Some cars—often referred to as "meta cars"—simply perform better and set faster lap times than others, even when they share the same Performance Index. These cars need to be nerfed to ensure fair competition in online races. 4. Broken Tuning Physics Enable Unrealistic Performance Gains The tuning system allows for unrealistic setups (“meta tunes”) that enable cars to outperform what their PI rating suggests. This undermines fair online competition and breaks immersion, as vehicles behave in ways that don’t reflect their intended capabilities. 5. PI Restrictions in Online Races Undermine Upgrade Balance Online races often restrict cars to full even PI values (e.g. 500, 600, 700), which can disrupt the balance of car upgrades. This system forces players to either leave performance potential unused or exploit the PI cap with overpowered builds, leading to uneven competition. Welcome improvements to see in future updates/iteration of FM (in random order): A longer and more engaging career mode Custom championship creator Improved penalty system A deeper and more complex online mode, with smoother, less laggy opponents Faster, more stable UI with automation options (e.g. auto fuel per lap, preferred tire selection) A better and smarter auto-upgrade system Built-in car engineer (auto-tune function) Reduced tendency for entry-corner understeer in car physics (recommend using ForzaTune app to help balance it) Better default force feedback (FFB) without the need for extensive fine-tuning Improved FFB curb vibrations — currently too weak or entirely absent More control over weather conditions in all modes (more wet/dry dynamic options) Significantly reduced grip in wet conditions for higher realism Driver statistics — currently completely missing Option to reset game progress More natural color grading (saturation, exposure, contrast) without relying on NVIDIA filters Better game optimization across platforms (especially RTGI) More diverse and dynamic skyboxes, with varied cloud formations and plane condensation trails Improved grid start controls More thoughtful track selection, considering the game's high budget and price tag (Monaco, Monza, Willow Spring) Proper car body reflections in mirrors A full-featured time trial mode with personal ghost lap comparison Track mastery system — level up each track through experience Better driver identity customization (e.g., country selection) Team creation system Replay system that mimics real TV broadcast style Option to include practice and qualifying in free race mode Real-time pit stops and no ghosted traffic in pit lanes Skippable intro sequence 😉 No internet connection required for single-player content Ability to pause/save during very long endurance races Unlimited space for garage, tunes, and liveries Easier-to-use and better-optimized livery editor A proper racing school: tips on correct driving technique, and historical background on racing cars and circuits Expanded camera settings More HUD options (full race time, current day time) Full flag system and safety car implementation More realistic mechanical damage modeling Realistic random weather patterns for each location (currently almost half random weather races on Yas Marina is rain) Fix remained bugs and glitches Final word: Although Forza Motorsport offers impressive visuals, a strong car roster with a flexible upgrade system, solid driving physics, and intuitive force feedback, it still suffers from too many critical issues to earn a positive recommendation. I can only hope that future updates will address these problems and bring the game up to its full potential.

Wasn't going to refund anyways but not worth it in its current state. Play it on gamepass, no reason you should be me and waste 100$ on the premium.

I cannot recommend this game to anyone. I bought this for full price when it first came out, I was initially disappointed but I thought that they might improve the game over time so I left it for a while. Today, I decided to give it another go and, unfortunately nothing has improved. Yes they've added some extra cars and tracks but all the original issues with the game still exist. There's very little single player content here, a few boring events, mostly with road cars is all you get. The levelling up thing feels like a chore and there's just nothing to keep me coming back. What happened to the days when racing games gave you a fun challenge, lots of events and championships and different game modes? The performance on PC still isn't optimised, I'm on a 3070-TI and I'm running the game on medium settings with the ray-tracing options set to either low or off and it still doesn't feel as smooth as Gran Turismo 7 on my old PS4. It's a damn shame, I was really hoping this was going to be the racing experience I've been craving for years, in a time when everything's either about full-on simulations where you need a wheel and pedals just to play, or cartoon style arcade racing, or street racing. Why can't anybody make a good track racer with fun single player championship modes anymore? Back in the 2000s there were tons of them! This is a 3 out of 10 for me.

Where to start? Forza have had a long-lasting game series where the games brought enjoyment for the Motorsport fans. I've played all Forza games since FM 2 including all horizon games and really enjoyed most of them. When I heard that they where releasing a new Motorsport that was built from the ground up i got very excited what they would bring us. After playing the latest Horizon games i built up an expectation on what the customization, car experience and car variation would be like. Release day As a true fan I of course went for the full premium game and got the early release gameplay. After almost 50 hours of gaming all my excitement was gone and i was left feeling empty. All the expectations and thrills I've had for the older games couldn't be found while playing this one. I don't even know where to begin, the problems are way to many. Here is a "short" list of whats wrong: Poor handling, many fps drops, graphical bugs, poor camera view, missing road texture, car colors looking dull. There must have been literately no testing at all of this game since it contain so many non hidden bugs. Ai being all over the place, crashing into you and creating an bad experience in the single player. The Single player career is missing a lot of content, lacking of maps, lacking of some race classes and no 25 lap races. No feeling of actual progress. The carpoint system is a good idea but lacks understanding of what makes Forza fun, the grind takes way too long and it doesn't make sense to make u do it all over again if you want to customize the same car. The camera is fixed while changing wheels or other parts which makes the whole experience of customization of the car you worked so hard for feel awful. The whole menu feels awkward and soulless. Having a fixed car in the menu is probably the worst thing with the menu atm. No new stickers for the paint options. Neither no new paints. NO WHEEL SPACERS, no turbo lag option, Car parts prices makes no sense. No skipping of practice before you start a race. Car prices makes no sense, i get the idea of making all cars financially available but it isn't done in a good way. There is no feeling of actually "winning" something. The long asked career where u start with a golf polo and fight your way up to the Le mans cars is none existing. Forza Motorsport 2 had a transparent car for the ones u haven't unlocked yet which made us actually wanna progress in the career and do all the long endurance races just to unlock some of the rarer cars. The music, Motorsport 2-4 was peak menu music and overall aesthetic of having a good sound to it. The good parts? The multiplayer is where this game shines, as long as no one crashes into you and gives you a 2-second penalty for being in THEIR way. The intro for the series is a nice touch. All new hoods and body parts is a nice addition to the cars that were missing parts. The car list is OK. The new maps are done well and have a nice feeling to them. Conclusion Dont buy this game, wait until its fixed. This game has the foundation for a great game but nothing is certain until its proven. Turn10, please listen to your fan base. Look at what worked in the older games, what we as the customers want and what made your games desirable. As a hardcore Forza fan this is my official last game i will ever buy from you, you made a lot of fans disappointed and will have a lot to make up to in the future coming updates/games.

This game doesn't deserve this rating. I might agree that it is tad expensive, albeit, price point is know upfront, so you can't really complain, either you pay, or you don't. Driving is top notch, performance is ok, visuals are ok, cars and tracks are great as always. The feedback on the Xbox controller is very good, not as good as GT7 on PS5, that game is a masterpiece of feedback via controller. I give it a solid 7 out of 10. If you like cars, and like Forza, you will like the game. Cheers,

Don't look at trailers - it's a lie. I was a loyal forza fan since FM2 and new FM is a death note for the series. Graphics is broken: - stutters no matter what settings are - fps drops in half after race or two or after changing random settings even not graphical - black levels are mess, you can't see details in the dark parts of the image - textures are soft and trailers don't represent it's quality - grass textures are disgusting and out of focus, AC grass looks MILES better and it's a 9 yo game - skies are literally from FM7 and there is a bug that makes them out of focus too - before update 2 there was a problem with pixelated contours of cars and after update 2 fine details are gone you can't see grills on cars!!! - road reflections in the rain conditions are broken and go away while wipers are moving - car's rims are replaced with 2d flat textures while moving on certain speed - headlights are dull and you can't see far away at night races MP doesn't work correctly: - matchmaking doesn't work and lobbies full of rammers - MP replays doesn't save so you can't see it or report a rammer - constant disconnects at different points of the race (worst is to play 20 minutes of practice and end up disconnected on the start of the race) - poor connection even when it's not AI is broken: - rams you all the time - can't race you - goes miles in front of you and if you pass them they drive much slower and can't overtake you properly - can't be used in custom MP Penalty system works strange: - people often don't get panalties for ramming you on purpose if they push the breaks before the ram or for some other reason - many times if you rammed by someone you can get penalty - if someone spins in front of you and you hit them because you can't avoid it you can get penalty as a rammer - sometime if you go off track slightly you can get 10 sec penalty Devs should apologize and fix all the bugs that shouldn't be on release. They should get the game to the level of trailers in all aspects of the game. Then and only then they can modestly hope that players will trust them again. I know I still can get a refund because of the game state and I didn't do that only because I love forza series and I'm giving devs a chance to save their face. It's the last time I'm doing that.

the game no longer launches and there is no apparent fix. multiplayer was a lagging mess half the time with cars floating above the track and teleporting. continuing to ask for a refund since the game wont launch. Update: Forza support cant fix the issue & Steam Will not refund the game. DO NOT BUY. Update the game still will not launch and Forza support admitted after 3 months that it's the game and that they don't know how to fix it. I'm only out the 40$ I payed for this but I will never recommend another Turn 10 game again after this.

If you are a long-time Forza fan, BEWARE. Do NOT take it for granted that this game will include the features that you have come to expect. Many series staples are gone. The traditional, flexible single-player career was been replaced by an extremely linear and hand-holdy style of progression where racing series must be completed in a strict order. No more getting through the first few races and branching off into whatever interests you. I cannot overstate how off-putting this is if you have grown used to guiding your own career in past games. Prepare to do a lot of races that you don't care about before unlocking a series that you might care about. The game also introduces car levels, which allow you to unlock the ability to buy upgrades - essentially upgrades for a car are arbitrarily locked away, and you have to use a car repeatedly before you earn the privilege of upgrading it. Additionally, there is NO community auction house. If you missed out on a reward car that you want, you better keep your ear to the ground and hope that Turn 10 offers it again someday. The selection of cars available for purchase feels extremely limited from my perspective. I'm a fan of classic Italians, and there are 0 classic Alfa Romeos available for purchase (one is a reward car that I missed). There is one classic Lancia (Delta Integrale), and Abarth is nowhere to be found. Lastly, there is no apparent logic in car pricing. What were formerly highly priced aspiration cars can now be bought after a few races. I would strongly recommend that you look at the car list before purchasing, because there is no guarantee that your old favorites will be in the game, even if they have been in every title for the last decade or more. Also missing are: Leaderboards Choice of level up rewards Special dealer Test drives The actual feel of the racing is extremely good. However, the AI is still terrible. The AI drivers still take no account of the fact that your car is a solid object with mass. They are on their line, and if that line goes through you, so be it. You will spend many races getting punted around for three laps before you get through the herd and perhaps catch up to the leader AI, who has gained a 10 second lead from the chaos behind. It's very frustrating, and I'm someone who routinely posted top 100 lap times in F7. You can be Niki Lauda and still struggle to win a race if the 5th and 6th place AI drivers decide it's not your day. The graphics are outstanding. The game looks amazing. But then, FM7 looked amazing when it came out, and still looks just fine now. If you have it, enjoy the network features while they are still around, because their day will be done sooner or later. Essentially, FM8 is a minuscule graphical upgrade at the expense of pretty much everything I have loved about the main series games for 20 years. If you decide to give it a go, TRACK YOUR TIME. Steam generally allows returns with 14 days of purchase, and with 2 hours or less of play time. They very graciously refunded me for this game at 2.1 hours, but I won't be taking that risk again.

EDIT (05/06/2025): So it's been a while since I made this review and with Update 20 for it's 20th Anniversary it brings Fujimi Kaido, a car pack featuring the return of the Mazda Furai and heavily-asked-for Toyota Mark II, and AI improvements. Ever since the addition of Fujimi Kaido (a track not seen since FM4), I've been on it ever since. This is my first time on the track outside of Assetto Corsa since I didn't grow up with an Xbox. Talk about a triumphant return. They put their heart into this track and it shows. Many Japanese touches that the previous-gen didn't have resources for. It also brings back online drift playlists and Meetups, online racing without the competitive atmosphere. This is a much needed feature, and I'm glad it's here now. As for the fps issues I've experienced previously, they aren't as common to me. Is it better now? Yeah. The racing's still good. Is it good enough to buy full-price? I still think it's going to need a bit more convincing other than a great update for the fans. If they keep this up and give a space for more casual players looking for a way in, I'll consider changing my review. They're still missing a PROPER server browser which would really be appreciated. --- In the current state FM is in, I don't think I can recommend this. I've been dying to have a controller-suited experience on PC for a while now, and I thought FM would be the good PC alternative to Gran Turismo since that isn't on PC either (love it though). Way, way, way too many bugs right now. PC optimisation for this game is equivalent to putting your wiener in a spinning fan blade. The track can disappear in front of you, the frame rate is the most inconsistent thing ever no matter the graphics preset, and don't get me started on the infinite loading bugs. Seriously, it's insanely baffling that you can be a flagship franchise under Microsoft, be a triple AAA company, and vomit up something not nearly enough to satisfy the majority of your playerbase. I'm one of the die-hard few, although, it's more accurate to just call me one of the desperate ones. As for positives about the game, there are only a few touches of grace here and there which primarily come down to the racing itself. Multiplayer racing is killer. It's got close-racing action and for the most part, cars are balanced. Penalties as related to the racing itself though... not so fun. You can get rammed by someone then hit into someone else and it can be your fault. Track limits too, but I feel this can be ironed out. I don't think I've hated it hard enough. Even if you're looking for something to play, don't let yourself get convinced by the fun racing to be had. There's not enough content, no free play/server browser, campaign is bleak... even with the progression change, which the final upgrades required you to get your car to level 50 and could take 3-5 hours, getting your car to Level 25 still does not fix it entirely. Car points still restrict a lot, they really should have fixed this progression issue before launch. Everyone says the same stuff about who could have possibly QA'd this and said it was fine lol. I'll still hold my breath. The devs got a lot of work to do to fix the important issues.

Yes, it's actually as bad as almost all previous reviews say it is. The track constantly disappears progressively without 'repairing' itself. I lowered all the settings and the resolution down to 720p, and the track still disappears EVERY time. Running on 12400F CPU and 3060Ti GPU with 32GB RAM I just submitted a refund request and I hope Steam support allows it even though I have 3 hours of 'gameplay' which consisted almost entirely of trying to merely play the game as it was advertised on the store page.
