I liked the game overall, but this is the type of game that will not work for everyone. If you are a NieR fan and/or you are ok with typical Japanese game development and writing - this is an easy buy for you. But some important things to mention: - Visually the game is pretty but for some reason in native resolution I felt like I was playing basic PS5 performance mode. But in 100+ fps with raytracing which was nice to see on UE5. - Gameplay is fire. It is a hybrid of Sekiro and modern Final Fantasy games which feels amazing, But unfortunately several main bosses have abysmal design that makes them a terrible experience. To put it simple - they are 10x times bigger than the main character with an awful and unreadable patterns. Most of the time you don't even see what the hell is going on. - There are 10-ish open zones in the game. Most of them are semi-empty fields with almost nothing to explore on it. There were 0 reasons to do that unless as I said - Japanese game dev. By the end of the game enemies also feel kinda repetative. - Writing is... unstable. The story itself and characters around it are great. But the game is filled with filler dialogues, unnecessary acts and also 3 times almost in a row you get a monologue from different characters explaining you the most important info about the whole world . I still enjoyed it but again if you are not used to this kind of writing you would for certain feel bored and/or won't like it at all. TLDR: Some gamers will call this a masterpiece and some will probably be disappointed mostly because they are not the target audience.

The most helpful review from a veteran (10+ hours at review)Best argument against
The most helpful review from a veteran (10+ hours at review)I gave this game an honest shot and was actually having a pretty fun time during the first 10 hours, but there are so many issues with this game that all combined makes it impossible to recommend. - Lack of game settings. The game defaults to FSR1, there is no FSR 4.1 (or even 3.1), the DLSS is a severely outdated 3.7, there is no DLAA/Native resolution option for the upscaling, there is no Frame Gen option, there is no option for film grain or volumetric fog which is forced upon you unless you create your own Engine.ini file, there is no FOV slider and the deafult FOV is arguably way too narrow, there are no subtitle size options, no dynamic HUD option, no HUD scale option, no full screen option, no other Ray Tracing options other than on/off, no option to disable the camera speed acceleration (the camera starts moving faster the longer you hold down your analog stick on your controller), no color/saturation options to fix the washed out colors. - Visually the game looks rough, and the textures feel like something you'd find in an old Nintendo game. Really low resolution textures, jagged edges, huge "shadow boxes", and the blacks look grey. Colors look really washed out, also the same as you'd find in an old Nintendo game. It just looks sorta blurry, flat, grey and washed out. - Performance isn't great, despite the rough visuals. FPS dips and stutters will occur throughout the entire game. - Some actions share button inputs with no option to separate them. You jump and interact with things using the same button, which means you will jump at times when you want to interact with something and you will interact with something when you want to jump. Eventually this gets incredibly frustrating. - There's like 3-4 songs in the entire OST. The songs are quite nice but you get really tired of hearing them over and over again as you play for 20+ hours. - For the dialogues and story the pacing is so incredibly bad. Each character speak slowly, then there is a pause for anywhere between 2-10 seconds before the next character speaks. Rinse and repeat for hours upon hours of dialogue that moves the story forward in a snail's pace. The same things will be said over and over again, and there is no option to skip most of these cutscenes. Your only option is to advance the dialogue by pressing X on your controller, but that doesn't always work either because before the next line of dialogue is played it still has to wait for the duration of that first line to finish and you can only skip the current line of dialogue being played which means you can't "spam skip" through a lengthy dialogue with no substance. - Story sadly goes from interesting to disappointing as you close in on the ending. Towards the end of it the game dumps all essential lore on you within 10 minutes through audio recordings made by one of the characters. It's such an incredibly lazy and boring way to present the story. Overall the presentation of the story is just terrible, with multiple flashbacks to different times in the past. The writing is also very odd, but maybe it's lost in translation a bit since I played with English voice acting instead of the Japanese one. - There are no side quests or side characters you will stumble upon and help. There is no incentive to explore the open world as the only rewards you will get are currency or upgrade materials. You won't stumble upon something interesting - EVER. - Character models are really stiff. Some animations such as Emma's jogging or crouch walking animation look hilariously bad. - The enemy variety is god awful. You will have seen 99% of enemies within the first 5 hours of the game, and then these enemies will basically be the only enemies you fight for the rest of the game. - The boss variety is honestly insulting. The very first boss you fight in chapter 1 will also be the main boss for a later chapter. The same will be true for the other chapter bosses too. You will fight the same boss atleast 2 times, with some being fought I think close to 10 times by the end of it. And this is MAIN STORY BOSSES, it's not optional content. - Everytime Koo discovers something in the world he will bark, and then Emma will comment on it. The same interaction will happen hundreds of times throughout the game with zero variation. - In combat, everytime you want to use a Koo skill Emma will say "Koo" the exact same way each and every time. This becomes annoying incredibly fast, and there is no way to disable this. - In combat, as soon as you max out on the resource used by Koo your trusty "spirit companion" Violet will say "Remember to use Koo's skills too", without fail. She ALWAYS does this throughout the entire game. It doesn't matter if you are in the middle of an enemies attack string where you actually don't have time to use Koo's skills without it interrupting your parry, she will still remind you to use Koo's skills. You can't disable this. She also backseats you if you take too much damage, telling you to be careful and learning the enemy moves. It ends up feeling like she's mocking you as she tells you this for the 20th time against the same type of enemy you have fought since chapter 1. - If you have the pre-order bonus that changes Koo's fur you will be sad to learn this doesn't affect cutscenes. Koo and Emma will always use the "default skin" in all cutscenes. - There are different armours you can find in the world, but none of them change the look of Emma's outfit. You can't customize Emma's outfit in any way other than removing her hat, which again still reappears during all cutscenes. - There are some trinkets/charms you can equip to Emma and Koo that gives them slight buffs, but after the first 5-10 hours you stop caring about them as they don't change or evolve past that point. - The only thing that changes between different swords is the look of the weapon and what temporary buff you gain from it for when you successfully parry an enemy attack. Base damage remains almost entirely the same between all swords. - Ranged weapons include a bow and a crossbow, but their damage is so low they end up being close to useless in combat. By the end of the game you end up forgetting they even exist. - There are some bugs that can happen where your character gets teleported X amount of distance away from the enemy. It makes no sense and looks really janky, and can just reset the combat entirely if you get teleported far enough. Despite this really lengthy list I am convinced I missed a lot of negatives. Asking 55€ for this game is insulting. I honestly would hesitate to recommend this game even if it was free to play. I have no history with these devs and never played their Pokemon games, but it's clear to me they're not competent enough to pull off a game like Beast of Reincarnation in a satisfactory way. Any future projects from GAME FREAK I will likely avoid. Don't waste your time and money playing this, unless you can get it for free and literally have nothing else to play.

Wait for a ton of patches and a 50% price cut. Combat feels unrewarding and uninspired, guarding and parrying are very inconsistent and sword impacts feel like a dry pool noodle. World feels empty and lifeless for the most part, few robots here a few there and a few animals. Ran into a bug fighting an elite enemy after using Koo's ability threw me across the map and healed the boss to full. You might say well just go fight him again... NO you go fight him again I'm not dealing with this silliness. All in all it feels like a TEMU Stellar Blade for a AAA price. Really the best thing I can say about the game is it ran pretty well and the graphics weren't super bad but that's debatable depending on who you ask. 4/10

Looks far more ambitious than it actually plays. I waited for a long time, and so far it feels like a budget AA game wearing expensive graphics and being sold far too close to AAA pricing. The art direction can be striking. The giant walking house is genuinely cool, the world has some strange ideas, and technically it runs well for me at native 4K60 with ray tracing on but RT is weird here. Unfortunately, once I stopped staring at the scenery and actually played it, the cracks appeared quickly. Combat feels flat and repetitive. I played on Hard, so enemies can kill you quickly, but higher damage does not make a shallow combat system deeper. Koo’s abilities constantly interrupt the flow, turning fights into repeated stop-and-start menus instead of something naturally tactical. Maybe more skills appear later, but the basic rhythm already feels awkward. Exploration is weak, movement feels restrictive, and the camps placement is awkward. The controller camera is painfully slow even at maximum sensitivity. Keyboard and mouse support is also half-baked, including not allowing normal binding of Mouse 4 and Mouse 5. Neither control method feels properly finished. The music barely leaves an impression, and Emma feels strangely empty and i assume it must be something with the lore and story? There are interesting concepts here, but the gameplay, exploration, controls, music, and general presentation feel much cheaper than the price suggests. I kept waiting for the game shown in the trailers to appear, but so far I am playing something far flatter and more repetitive. Maybe after major patches or a deep discount. Genuinely unsure about refunding.

Man... So close yet so far. This review is posted @ 20 hours for a full playthrough on Hard (hardest default difficulty before NG+) This game just doesn't meet any of the expectations I'd have for virtually any aspect. Combat - 6/10 Combat reminds me a lot of Sekiro, except now there's the added "burden" of commanding your ally CONSTANTLY. Commanding Koo puts you in a slow-mo where the enemies are still attacking you. It also just breaks the flow and feel of the fight to me. One of the skills you unlock later, Laido, creates a very long end lag to your own character's attacks. This ends up delaying movement and healing a lot, and the skill itself was useless to me. While it's optional to take upfront, one of the achievements is to unlock and upgrade everything. The camera is fine for the most part except on some of the larger bosses where your camera angle is behind the boss making all their attacks obscured. Ranged weaponry is very underwhelming. You have a limited number of arrows / bolts to use in a fight. Probably due to being on hard mode, but I'd be emptying out my entire stock of arrows killing a single enemy. With upgrades later on they actually start to pickup again later, but that mid-game section feels poor in terms of ranged weapons. Combos just don't even seem feasible to pull off. Fully investing into skill speed, applying root or shock on a boss (CC), and they still swing back and break my combo before it finishes. As others mention, you end up defaulting to the very short combos to even have a chance of getting the finisher off. Enemies - 2/10 The same 15 or so enemies get reused over, and over, and over for the entire game. The same enemies you see in Chapter 1 are still reused all the way until the end in the overworld with barely anything being added. Elite enemies are just tankier versions of the same enemies. Bosses - 1/10 Boss design feels underwhelming at best. Bosses are mostly all 2 phase and the second phase is just the first phase with an extra move or two added in. But that's not all. Almost every boss in the game you have to fight twice, meaning that you actually have to fully beat them 4 times. Twice in a row in the first fight, and twice in a row in the second fight. This just isn't satisfying. Not to mention that you have the SAME cutscenes for end of phase 1 and end of fight. One of the bosses you have to fight and clear on THREE separate occasions which I found insane. And the movesets are identical across all 3 fights. This might just be an issue with playing on hard mode, but the bosses just feel like sponges and it becomes a slog. Their movesets are also quite limited so there isn't even too much you need to learn. Cleared nearly every boss on the 1st to 3rd try on Hard. There just wasn't that much going on. Map Design - 5/10 I'll lump in movement and traversal in this. The first set of maps are huge and very empty. One note is that you can jump very high, and the devs did make some use of verticality in this. However the emptiness feels even worse with this in mind as you're not just scouring large, empty horizontal maps, you're scouring tall vertical structures as well with the same results. A lot of the rewards are just generic loot. Add on the fact that it's not a 1 click button to claim loot. You click to open the box, then have to claim the loot from the box, adding an extra delay. One thing I did quite like was the Keeper Golem mechanic that allows you to choose 1 key point of interest to reveal on your map. Later on in the story the maps becomes corridors. Music / OST - 5/10 I liked what I heard, but there wasn't much to hear. The same tracks are played over and over again for the most part. Maybe 8-10 hours of the 20 hour playthrough was done in the overworld with the same track playing. Story - 3/10 Pacing is atrocious. I was relatively thorough and there was very little information for the player up until the last 20% of the game where all the story gets dumped on you at once. Overall felt very similar to Nier Automata. So I can't even really say it's original. Cutscenes were terribly stiff for story. Very long delays / pauses between characters speaking. They're basically all brick walls that's how little animation there was. The majority of the early game was just focused on teaching Emma what "love" means - about 8-9 chapters worth, and then the entire story is told in the span of 3 chapters. Overall rating - 4/10 Genuinely feels unfinished, especially at a $80 CAD price point. There's a stark difference between the size of the maps between the first half and second half of the game. Lack of music, enemy, and boss diversity. Imagine this, you re-fight the first boss again before you're even given any substantial information on the story. So pacing just felt off.

An Important Game in the Modern Era Beast of Reincarnation is what I'd call a polished 'AA' experience. In an ecosystem were we continue to push the boundaries and budgets of massive projects that take a decade to come to fruition, and GTAVI looming around the corner I think it's good to test our tastes against a game that is imperfect in so many ways. This is a 3 out of 5 game. Is that bad? No. Not really. But we've lost a lot of nuance in speaking about games online that it really comes across to people like it is. No one wants to release a 3/5 anymore. Every studio wants to throw up 4/5 and 5/5 games; endlessly spending billions of dollars on bloated products that all end up being the exact same thing over and over again. Meant to appeal to absolutely as many people as possible -- games made in a lab by focus groups and shareholder meetings. Beast of Reincarnation sucks in so many different ways, but I kind of like it for that. It can't hide it's flaws behind it's budget like other games can. It's raw in a way that feels real. The draw distance looks about as good as a switch game on a PC maxed out, there is exactly one song I've been listening to ad nauseum for 4 hours, the enemy variety is bad, the first boss in the game doesn't even have a real intro to the fight you just drop down into his arena from the sky, and he has exactly one move which is shaking his head at you aggressively, the animations don't all blend well together, and the explorable areas are empty with useless rewards. I think it's got it's heart in the right place, though. Beast of Reincarnation is it's own thing. You'll see a lot of people throw around the obvious comparisons of Nier and Stellar Blade, but it's not really either of those games. It's not quite Sekiro, FF7R, Wild Hearts, or Pokemon either. It shares similarities with those games, and it'd be easy to say that it's inspired by these things, but I'd say it's really it's own thing. The combat has it's moments, and controlling Koo and Emma together feel intuitive. I like both of the main character's designs, and I enjoy the contemplative nature of the story thus far. The traversal mechanics are unique, and I've enjoyed playing with the hair bridges and grapple hook. So what? The reality is that all of the games people like to compare this game to also suck in all the ways this one does, too. The difference is they have the budget to paint over all of their problems so people don't notice. The combat in Nier and Stellar Blade are just as bland if not moreso. They're both button mashers. Stellar Blade practically screams at you to follow it's simon says combat with color coded attacks that make you do flashy things when you respond properly to it's explicit instructions. A little dopamine hit for playing the game the way it forces you to, rather than the being a freeform expression of skill. Emma's ass isn't as fat as Eve's or 2Bs, and you can't change her outfit or blow off her clothes. They waste just as much of your time as this game does they're just better at jingling the keys. Beast of Reincarnation doesn't even bother doing that. This game is absolutely so shameless and I love it for that reason. It's a $40-50 game with a $60 price tag. I have complaints about this game but this is the only real one that would make me recommend against picking it for someone on the fence about it. Otherwise I think it's worth experiencing. We've lost a lot of the language necessary in the current gaming ecosystem to talk about games like this. I.e. the issue of referring to everything as 'soulslike', or assigning every singular mechanic to one form of game in order to neatly describe them without further thought. This game doesn't meet the standards of the modern AAA experience, but why should it? Those games suck too, they just hide the jank under a coat of graphical/horny/spectacle-colored paint. Maybe Beast of Reincarnation sucks, but I think that's alright.

If there was a neutral option, that is exactly what this game would get until some of the glaring issues are ironed out. Till then, it will get a positive review because it is reminiscent of so many games I hold dear to my heart. The intro gave me a pinch of Horizon Zero Dawn, with a dash of Nier and a sprinkle of Stellar Blade for good measure. Now... where to start? The game defaults to Japanese audio voice over. Once you start the game, you cannot change this in the game settings. It can only be changed at the starting menu, so if you want ENGLISH voice over make sure to change it before you start your game. I recommend changing it because I was having a hard time keeping on top of the reading and watching during action scenes. I was actually missing things in the environment because the text is quite small and I was hyper focused on reading it. I do not see an option to make the text larger at this time... first negative >.> The combat and story are engaging so far and that is the only reason I am giving this a positive review at this time because I will continue playing it despite the current drawbacks. I am having the most fun just exploring the open world right now and unlocking all the fast travel sites. There appears to be lots to see, with nooks and crannies to explore (MY FAVOURITE ^_^). The combat is active time based with a sprinkle of slow time when you are controlling Koo (your pet companion). It reminds me a lot of Final Fantasy 7 Remake with some QTE sequencing similarly seen in Expedition 33. You are equipped with melee and ranged weapons. You are given some free will to put points into stats and a skill tree, choosing what build suits your playstyle. Parrying seems to be pretty important in this game because successful parries allow you to recover action points so you can use Koo in combat. So if you hate parrying this may not be for you >.< That being said, you have the option to put it on story mode where you will not die if you choose to completely ignore the parry function. Personally, I hate parry systems but I am finding it very enjoyable and easy to detect on normal mode. It feels forgiving, so I would recommend giving it a shot. The mobility mechanic with your hair is pretty fun as well, allowing you to swing around to higher ground mid combat or create bridges between objects out of reach. The games native FOV and camera boss are proving the be the most challenging yet. You are zoomed in so close to the character that I find it hard to admire and assess the environment. It is even harder to engage in heated combat with lots of enemies or larger scale enemies without your camera having a meltdown (aka the intro). It kept on zooming so far up my character's arse that I couldn't even see the enemies in front of me or surrounding me. I was able to remedy the chaotic camera by turning off the camera follow. I was also getting really motion sick when I started and was able to resolve that with turning off camera shake. In addition, Koo is often ahead of me finding new enemies and treasure. Because I can't seem to find a tracker for him on screen or on the map, and due to the limited FOV, I cannot find him or his discoveries!! I am really hoping that by writing this review, the FOV and camera can be improved upon because the combat feels enjoyable and the intrigue of the story will keep me going. For a game like this, I think the user should be able to adjust both to their liking since spatial awareness plays a key part in this game given some of the abilities. But the limited FOV and camera lock/angles really take away from the whole experience and feels a tad unpolished, making me really hesitant to confidently recommend this at full price. FYI: currently playing it on the steam machine and it runs smooth, no issues!! UPDATE: While I am still enjoying the combat and the story has kept my interest, I am going to take a break because I feel like the gameplay loop has gotten a bit repetitive/stale. I feel like I am on the same mission, doing the same thing in every zone. Wish they were a bit more creative on this front. Makes it hard for me to want to chip away at this everyday. Get it on deep discount folks This is not a bad game by any means, but I think a few setbacks make the full price hard to justify for most people. First of all, combat is easily my favorite part of the game. Game Freak really deliver here. The combat is fun, responsive, and feels great to play. This isn't a Soulslike, so there's no real punishment for dying. It's much more action focused, with consecutive parry mechanics that remind me a lot of Sekiro, plenty of move combinations, and even some QTE style moves from our companion, Koo. I honestly have very few complaints about the combat. Exploration is another strong point. There's a good sense of discovery, and finding things while exploring actually feels rewarding. The traversal system is also fun, and the whole concept of a pos t apocalyptic Japan is pretty intriguing. Unfortunately, the level design doesn't really live up to that concept. A lot of the environments feel boring, repetitive and uninspired, and the lack of enemy variety makes things worse. You fight the same enemies with basically the same movesets over and over again. Even the bosses end up feeling pretty bland and underwhelming. From a technical perspective, I didn't have any major performance issues, but the visuals definitely don't live up to the hype. The game look noticeably blurry, and the camera positioning can be pretty awkward at times. The recent patches have improved things, though, so it's definitely better than it was at launch. The biggest disappointment for me was the story. The storytelling is honestly pretty weak. The Japanese voice acting is good, but the cutscenes, dialogue, and animations don't really do justice to the performances. I never really had that "Wow, that was epic" moment during any of the major cutscenes. Even some of the sequences in the early hours reminded me of Stellar Blade, but unfortunately they never reached that same level of impact. The protagonist being so emotionally flat doesn't help either. The plot itself is also quite slow, especially early on, which makes it difficult to find a reason to keep pushing forward. That said, I did appreciate the overall message of the story, and there are some interesting twists toward the epilogue. Overall, while the graphics aren't particularly spectacular, the characters aren't that engaging, and the narrative and gameplay loop can become repetitive over time, I still appreciate what the developers were trying to do here. It's clear that Game Freak was trying to explore something different, and despite all its rough edges, I had a good time with it. If you're willing to overlook its shortcomings and experience the game on its own terms, there's definitely something here to enjoy. Just don't pay full price. I'd recommend picking it up at around 30-50% off.

The game lacks variety in almost every aspect: enemies, music, and customization. It also reuses the same track so often that I ended up listening to my own playlist for most of my playtime. It feels like the game is trying to be Sekiro, Stellar Blade, and NieR all at the same time. The story is alright, but painfully clichéd. It feels like Violet Evergarden from Temu. The movement feels floaty, and the combat is too easy, even on the highest difficulty. Bosses lack varied attack patterns, and the perfect parry and dodge windows are far too forgiving. If you enjoy Sekiro or Souls games, this will feel like a baby game. My other complaints are that the game automatically pauses whenever I alt-tab to my second monitor, and the unnecessarily long revival animation becomes annoying when I just want to get back into the boss fight. This feels like one of those games that has the foundation to be good but needed several more months in the oven. In its current state, however, it feels unpolished and isn't worth paying full price.

Let's address the elephant in the room right off the bat. Are you a BIG Nier fan like myself? If yes, buy it and you will not let the negative things deter you from very much enjoying this game. If you are not a Neir fan, continue reading and I'll give you the biggest cons this game has. 1. Visuals. This is NOT an ugly game. It does, however, suffer from some very poor graphics options. Chief among them being the way that lighting is handled. No matter what setting you use, this game will have absolutely abysmal light bleeding. This makes dark areas have blinding bright spots in places like corners or areas outside the render culling distance. It does not really become a big issue until much later in the game thankfully, but it is ever present. 2. Camera. There is no way around being honest about how poor the camera can behave in this game. The default position is far too low and close to the character. There is NO FOV slider to mention in any of the settings at the time of writing this. This compounds into being even more problematic when fighting large bosses or groups of enemies. The camera just is not your friend. I grew up in the early days of 3D gaming so there is a slightly above average level of tolerance for things like this in my case. 3. Story. The story presentation in this game just does not flow well. If it had been organized in a better way, things could be really good. It has interesting ideas. It just doesn't know how to portray them without using typical vague cutscenes to falsely preserve a big "reveal" at the end. I have seen some reviews talking about how emotionless or stale many of the characters feel. There is 100% a canonical reason for this, but like my previous point, the narrative uses cheap ways to hold back information from the player. There are many conversations in this game that simply serve no purpose. If you are still here trying to see why I gave this game a thumbs up, this is it. It's fun. The music is fantastic. The combat, despite the camera woes, is a blast. I am a Nier fan. You do not have to be a fan of the Nier universe to like this. If you made it through the list of cons above and still want to play it, it's well worth the asking price.

Beast of Reincarnation was honestly disappointing for me.. The optimization is pretty bad, even on my 5060ti (16gb one), and the game just doesn’t feel polished enough for a full price release.. The AI usage also really takes me out of it, feels weird seeing that in a game like this.. Then they delayed the release by 6 hours, which was already annoying, but smh pirates were playing the game 3 days earlier while people who actually preordered it at full price were still waiting.. After all this, I’m definitely waiting for a sale. Not worth paying full price for this one imo..

No ultrawide, can't set higher resolution than 2560x1440p. For some reason the resolution setting is blocked while in borderless, but guess what there is no full screen mode. No frame generation either. Absolutely unacceptable to launch a game without these settings in 2026. I'll wait for a week, if they don't fix this I am refunding.

I can't really recommend this game at its current price. Frankly its not a terrible game but its not good either. Its just very middling. The overall story and English voice acting aren't that great. The exploration rewards are occasionally an interesting blueprint for crafting a consumable but usually they are just some currency and a generic book you can sell for more currency. I would probably wait to get this one to see if they improve it or it goes on sale. I would love to refund it but unfortunately I kept giving it more time to see if the game clicked and it never did.

If this game shows anything, it’s that Game Freak are capable of making a graphically beautiful game and their talents are somewhat wasted on just Pokémon, but there is still a lot to be desired with Beast of Reincarnation. Characters are bland, Emma is a boring protagonist but honestly I’d point that to bad writing and poor direction with the voice acting. Doesn’t help there was no proper facial animation to show emotion. Koo on the other hand, he’s such a good boy! Love Koo. Like I said before, graphics are gorgeous. The setting is so pretty and well made! Enemies are bit meh, you fight one robot you’ve fought them all. Boss battles are pretty damn good, the battle with Kunai and the final boss or some of the highlights for me. Big issues with the game, performance at launch was terrible, should not have been launched in that state. It has been improved but there’s still some frame issues and stuttering, while Game Freak is showing how well they can do graphics they forgot about optimisation. Story is just a bit eh. Not great, not well written, stopped paying attention after a while. I do vaguely remember they said it would be Steam Deck verified when it launched, and it’s currently Unsupported, so little bit of a porky there. I did play some of this on Steam Deck with low settings but Lossless Scaling enabled, made it somewhat playable but in the end I moved to a desktop PC. I sadly cannot recommend this game, as it is just meh and not worth the £50 price tag. If you have to give it a shot, wait for a sale and for it to be heavily discounted. Again beautiful game, but that’s it. Everything else is just bland. Rating: 6/10

Cant recommend this game at this point with this price. Recycled bosses(2-3 encounters for some), excessive use of invisible walls which ruins what could've been great exploration. Stiff character models that show no emotion whether they're angry, crying or laughing (Emma is the exception due to lore). Koo is the most expressive char. Cliche moments (Slash, wait 3 secs, someone falls to he ground, characters talking to self mid convo, then saying "it was nothing" when asked about it). Wonky camera against HUGE bosses. Mid, predictable story. The only thing I really liked about this game was the Combat. The Blade arts were cool to mess around with. The parrying was fun too (Kind of like Lies of P.) At the end of the day, my biggest gripe is the recycled Bosses, Mobs and excessive Invisible Walls. For 60, yeah, that's gonna be a no from me dog.

It is finally refreshing to see something genuinely new from Game Freak. Beast of Reincarnation has a great concept and a compelling story that instantly hooked me. The combat is really satisfying, it focuses heavily on parries and blends some cool turn-based elements with Koo, even if it isn't quite as buttery smooth as games like Stellar Blade or NieR: Automata. The soundtrack is good too, though it does tend to get a bit repetitive after listening to the same track for a while. That said, the game definitely has its issues. There is no FOV slider (making it harder to fight larger enemies when the camera clips into you), you will run into some stuttering in certain areas, and the heavy post-processing makes the visuals look unnecessarily blurry unless you manually edit the game files to turn it off. On top of that, upscaling settings refuse to save upon exiting, and there are some minor annoyances with the controller layout buttons. Because of regional pricing in where I live, it is pretty cheap and priced like a standard AA title, making the core game well worth it. Even so, you are probably better off waiting for a sale or until they patch out all these technical hiccups before jumping in.

Beast of Frustration Beast of Reincarnation is an interesting experiment for Gamefreak, it's a clear attempt to branch out into something more ambitious, more atmospheric, and more story‑driven. And in some ways, it succeeds, but the early hours of the game make that hard to appreciate. My first hour was rough. The camera actively fought me during combat and exploration, the onboarding tutorial barely explained core systems (or explained them too late or after I had already mastered the mechanic), and cutscenes crawled along with painfully slow transitions, black screens and dialogue spacing. On top of that, the story doesn’t really find its footing until around the three‑hour mark, leaving the opening stretch feeling more like a slog than a setup and also aiding into people wanting to refund. I am now at 16 hours and finishing Chapter 5 (out of 13) on a full‑completion run, the game is undeniably better. The narrative becomes more engaging (though dialogue is still slow and mostly stoic), the gameplay loop tightens due to accessing more Blade Arts, and the world starts to feel more cohesive. But the camera remains a major issue, especially in boss fights, and several design choices keep the experience from reaching its potential. Enemy variety is limited, zone bosses repeat with only minor mechanical differences to their mob counterparts, and environmental set pieces are heavily duplicated. Even the music, while lovely, barely shifts between zones, making the world feel flatter than it should. For me, Beast of Reincarnation currently sits at a 6/10. If the planned camera improvements and cutscene pacing fixes land well, it could comfortably rise to a 7. Gamefreak’s willingness to try something new is genuinely refreshing, and I hope this experiment leads to even stronger titles in the future. The Good: Atmospheric music (which is unfortunately repetitive) Story improves significantly after the early chapters A bold new direction for Gamefreak Different Blade Arts are fun You can pet the dog The Bad: Camera issues throughout the entire game (especially during boss battles) Repetitive music (though the score is good) Slow cutscene transitions and weak early pacing Repetitive enemies and zone bosses Environmental duplication across zones (same chest placement within same building structures) No support for 4K resolution or Widescreen resolution Blurry graphical settings Lack of FOV for Camera (the camera is too close during boss encounters) Cosmetics do not appear in cutscenes If you’re curious about Gamefreak experimenting outside their usual formula, there’s something here worth seeing, but be prepared to push through a rough start and some persistent mechanical frustrations. If I wanted to pick up the game with these issues, I would wait for at least a 50% discount or at least the upcoming fixes for the camera and story pacing.

There are very few games I've ever considered refunding on short notice. I genuinely wanted to love this, I really really did. Unfortunately, from the jump, it's quite awful. You can feel the limitations in the first hour. Your character moves terribly. Infact, movement in addition to having an awkwardly placed camera (over the right shoulder, your character off-centre left with camera focus zoom) is really not conducive to the actual combat you're experiencing where you'd need it centered to focus on enemies. It’s like there’s no set standard for a field of view and there’s no settings that I found that would increase this. It feels like it’s really zoomed in a way that’s awkward to your characters placement - you can tell in the first ten minutes when the camera tries to pan to something overhead to focus on a cinematic thing happening. Almost like it’s pulling or forcing a really bad angle. It's janky and the animations for it, as well as interacting with the environment, look like a ragdoll being thrown around. The closest comparison I can give you is imagine if the movement in Clair Obscur was the focus and it's gameplay needed to be within that environment instead of going into a turn-based screen. It doesn't fit the style of gameplay of what it's going for. Everything's tiny with no way to upscale it. The text was miniscule. The direction of focus is scattered because of how awkward camera placement is. Unfortunately, it doesnt even pass graphics. I've got weird pixelisations in cutscenes. Almost like it wasn't designed or supported to be stretched or upsized outside of 1080p. And even then, I'm playing on a 1080p 27inch monitor and its still pixelated. This has never happened to me, I've never seen this. Even with motion blur off as well, I think it's just because of the weird graphical limitations - it just looks so weirdly blurry. This is on maxed out settings. This could've been fine to deal with if the gameplay was good but it's not. It tries to emulate souls likes in the sense that it's very much hands off. The minute you start the level after the very short 10 minute tutorial, you can navigate menus and start exploring. The more you explore or fight, the more you realise that the combat isn't as clean as it should feel. The parrying system isn't as clean as what it feels like it's emulating, Stellar Blade rather than Sekiro, even though it really tries hard to be. There's more emphasis on just spamming attack and mixing in psuedo-esque turn based commands through Koo (the animal companion). To describe it akin to something, it's like if you were playing a Chinese knock off of Stellar Blade. It's not particularly challenging either but because the movement and animations feel so off-base and jerky, it's not even smooth or fluid. Narratively, the first thirty minutes of the game, you aren't really told much either which would normally be fine if you committed to the game but there was so little story, set up or world building that, in addition to terrible gameplay, I don't think you'd really care or know what's going on. I really was so excited to see what Game Freak were capable of but it's just so flat and unfulfilling. I can't recommend this especially not at full price. This is like ordering a Quarter Pounder in the drive-thru and realising when you're at home eating the burger that they just gave you two bread pieces.

I just finished the game, and everything below is just my personal opinion as someone who finished it — I figure not many people actually completed it, lol, so I wanted to share. The gameplay is fun, but past the halfway point, monsters repeat, monsters recycle, palette-swapped enemies show up all the way to the bosses, and even the bosses reuse the same movesets. You could beat them with your eyes closed — especially since the bosses are actually weaker than the elite trainers in terms of combos and skill builds. Team-building is enjoyable though, and you have to pick a playstyle since you won't have enough points to max everything out, both for your character and your Pokémon. On graphics: maxed out settings look decent, average overall, but it breaks in some scenes. Cutscenes look sharp and pretty, but character movement is weird, camera angles could be better, and the cut timing in some scenes is oddly off. Also annoying that I can't play at 3440x1440. Performance — not totally sure, since my PC is well above spec, but the graphics still glitch out regardless. Music is nice but sparse; there's a lot of silence in the field maps. As for the dialogue scenes, it's a shame because it really affects the story a lot — in emotional scenes the character animations are super stiff, lol. Even setting Emma aside, every other character is stiff too, lol. The story is very slow-burn, which I actually like as a genre, but the presentation and pacing are bad. However, once you get past the midpoint toward the end, the pacing picks up because the areas get smaller, exploration goes faster, so the story moves along quicker too. It gradually reveals more, starts connecting the dots better. By the time I finished, I was really invested — I don't want to say "peak," but I'd call it genuinely good. Not predictable, not simplistic either — and yeah, sometimes I didn't fully get it, lol — but somehow I still teared up... In the end, I have to admit — the game I initially thought had the worst story turned out to be one I really liked just for the gameplay alone, even with all the repeated monsters being annoying. But after finishing it, I'd say the story is actually the best part... I mean the story itself, but the storytelling/narrative delivery is still bad. It makes me feel like if they improved everything related to storytelling — script structure, scene selection, character faces, music, how emotional moments are presented — the voice acting felt underwhelming in English dub, though the Japanese dub is genuinely good — if they can fix that, plus make the monster and boss variety less repetitive, this would be a really great game for the price. P.S. I bought Deluxe, and I've never played a Pokémon game before this. So this is me rooting for Game Freak. You've got potential — anyone who trash-talks it, screw them, I'll argue back too, lol. I just want people to know it's not as bad as people say. Don't give up — looking forward to your next game, as long as it's not Pokémon, lol.

Disappointment of 2026. AA game with AAA price tag. This game has the potential to be great but it feels like half the content is missing. Pros: - Combat at its core is fun - Traversal mechanics are nice - Graphics look good with proper tweaking Cons: - Cutscenes are awkward and poorly paced - Severe lack of enemy variety - Repeat boss fights - Every boss has a MAX of 4 moves - Exploring should be fun because the traversal mechanic is smooth but the world feels empty and uninspired Should not be worth 60 dollars in its current state. Play anything else like Stonemachia, Stellar Blade, or Mortal Shell coming out in a couple weeks.

Classic bait and switch. Doesn't look like the trailers they posted. A very low effort product. Wait for a couple dozen patches and then buy it on sale. Refunding it.
