I liked the game overall, but this is the type of game that will not work for everyone. If you are a NieR fan and/or you are ok with typical Japanese game development and writing - this is an easy buy for you. But some important things to mention: - Visually the game is pretty but for some reason in native resolution I felt like I was playing basic PS5 performance mode. But in 100+ fps with raytracing which was nice to see on UE5. - Gameplay is fire. It is a hybrid of Sekiro and modern Final Fantasy games which feels amazing, But unfortunately several main bosses have abysmal design that makes them a terrible experience. To put it simple - they are 10x times bigger than the main character with an awful and unreadable patterns. Most of the time you don't even see what the hell is going on. - There are 10-ish open zones in the game. Most of them are semi-empty fields with almost nothing to explore on it. There were 0 reasons to do that unless as I said - Japanese game dev. By the end of the game enemies also feel kinda repetative. - Writing is... unstable. The story itself and characters around it are great. But the game is filled with filler dialogues, unnecessary acts and also 3 times almost in a row you get a monologue from different characters explaining you the most important info about the whole world . I still enjoyed it but again if you are not used to this kind of writing you would for certain feel bored and/or won't like it at all. TLDR: Some gamers will call this a masterpiece and some will probably be disappointed mostly because they are not the target audience.

I gave this game an honest shot and was actually having a pretty fun time during the first 10 hours, but there are so many issues with this game that all combined makes it impossible to recommend. - Lack of game settings. The game defaults to FSR1, there is no FSR 4.1 (or even 3.1), the DLSS is a severely outdated 3.7, there is no DLAA/Native resolution option for the upscaling, there is no Frame Gen option, there is no option for film grain or volumetric fog which is forced upon you unless you create your own Engine.ini file, there is no FOV slider and the deafult FOV is arguably way too narrow, there are no subtitle size options, no dynamic HUD option, no HUD scale option, no full screen option, no other Ray Tracing options other than on/off, no option to disable the camera speed acceleration (the camera starts moving faster the longer you hold down your analog stick on your controller), no color/saturation options to fix the washed out colors. - Visually the game looks rough, and the textures feel like something you'd find in an old Nintendo game. Really low resolution textures, jagged edges, huge "shadow boxes", and the blacks look grey. Colors look really washed out, also the same as you'd find in an old Nintendo game. It just looks sorta blurry, flat, grey and washed out. - Performance isn't great, despite the rough visuals. FPS dips and stutters will occur throughout the entire game. - Some actions share button inputs with no option to separate them. You jump and interact with things using the same button, which means you will jump at times when you want to interact with something and you will interact with something when you want to jump. Eventually this gets incredibly frustrating. - There's like 3-4 songs in the entire OST. The songs are quite nice but you get really tired of hearing them over and over again as you play for 20+ hours. - For the dialogues and story the pacing is so incredibly bad. Each character speak slowly, then there is a pause for anywhere between 2-10 seconds before the next character speaks. Rinse and repeat for hours upon hours of dialogue that moves the story forward in a snail's pace. The same things will be said over and over again, and there is no option to skip most of these cutscenes. Your only option is to advance the dialogue by pressing X on your controller, but that doesn't always work either because before the next line of dialogue is played it still has to wait for the duration of that first line to finish and you can only skip the current line of dialogue being played which means you can't "spam skip" through a lengthy dialogue with no substance. - Story sadly goes from interesting to disappointing as you close in on the ending. Towards the end of it the game dumps all essential lore on you within 10 minutes through audio recordings made by one of the characters. It's such an incredibly lazy and boring way to present the story. Overall the presentation of the story is just terrible, with multiple flashbacks to different times in the past. The writing is also very odd, but maybe it's lost in translation a bit since I played with English voice acting instead of the Japanese one. - There are no side quests or side characters you will stumble upon and help. There is no incentive to explore the open world as the only rewards you will get are currency or upgrade materials. You won't stumble upon something interesting - EVER. - Character models are really stiff. Some animations such as Emma's jogging or crouch walking animation look hilariously bad. - The enemy variety is god awful. You will have seen 99% of enemies within the first 5 hours of the game, and then these enemies will basically be the only enemies you fight for the rest of the game. - The boss variety is honestly insulting. The very first boss you fight in chapter 1 will also be the main boss for a later chapter. The same will be true for the other chapter bosses too. You will fight the same boss atleast 2 times, with some being fought I think close to 10 times by the end of it. And this is MAIN STORY BOSSES, it's not optional content. - Everytime Koo discovers something in the world he will bark, and then Emma will comment on it. The same interaction will happen hundreds of times throughout the game with zero variation. - In combat, everytime you want to use a Koo skill Emma will say "Koo" the exact same way each and every time. This becomes annoying incredibly fast, and there is no way to disable this. - In combat, as soon as you max out on the resource used by Koo your trusty "spirit companion" Violet will say "Remember to use Koo's skills too", without fail. She ALWAYS does this throughout the entire game. It doesn't matter if you are in the middle of an enemies attack string where you actually don't have time to use Koo's skills without it interrupting your parry, she will still remind you to use Koo's skills. You can't disable this. She also backseats you if you take too much damage, telling you to be careful and learning the enemy moves. It ends up feeling like she's mocking you as she tells you this for the 20th time against the same type of enemy you have fought since chapter 1. - If you have the pre-order bonus that changes Koo's fur you will be sad to learn this doesn't affect cutscenes. Koo and Emma will always use the "default skin" in all cutscenes. - There are different armours you can find in the world, but none of them change the look of Emma's outfit. You can't customize Emma's outfit in any way other than removing her hat, which again still reappears during all cutscenes. - There are some trinkets/charms you can equip to Emma and Koo that gives them slight buffs, but after the first 5-10 hours you stop caring about them as they don't change or evolve past that point. - The only thing that changes between different swords is the look of the weapon and what temporary buff you gain from it for when you successfully parry an enemy attack. Base damage remains almost entirely the same between all swords. - Ranged weapons include a bow and a crossbow, but their damage is so low they end up being close to useless in combat. By the end of the game you end up forgetting they even exist. - There are some bugs that can happen where your character gets teleported X amount of distance away from the enemy. It makes no sense and looks really janky, and can just reset the combat entirely if you get teleported far enough. Despite this really lengthy list I am convinced I missed a lot of negatives. Asking 55€ for this game is insulting. I honestly would hesitate to recommend this game even if it was free to play. I have no history with these devs and never played their Pokemon games, but it's clear to me they're not competent enough to pull off a game like Beast of Reincarnation in a satisfactory way. Any future projects from GAME FREAK I will likely avoid. Don't waste your time and money playing this, unless you can get it for free and literally have nothing else to play.

Is the game bad? No. Are there a lot of questionable decisions? Yes. I'd wait for a discount. The game recommends Cinematic Mode (cutscenes locked to 24 fps; turn it off. It's super janky) and some options turned on by default are pretty bad. Depth of Field causes a lot of artifacts when trying to place things into focus and is better off disabled. There's plenty of other tweaking to preference you may end up doing in the settings. The biggest offender at the moment is the camera. Weirdly closed in can't really be changed. Does not work well for giant fights. I'm sure nexus mods have many tweaks and fixes available now for people who are badly bothered by it. Other than that the combat starts off basic but your later skills provide a lot of additional movesets and it does get fun. I do appreciate that skills are tied to your stats just because it kind of forces people to not braindead dump into strength and instead choose a build to preference. Music is really good as well. Art direction is fantastic. Definitely Nier automata vibes. There's a lot of patches that will assuredly come in and fix some issues, worst case nexus mod will fix said issues if just much earlier than gamefreak will. Just wait for a discount. -- Edit: It seems the game is being brigaded with a lot of nonsense and very little is actually being talked about the game so I'd like to add some information that I figure may be helpful. - It's not a souls game, it does have parrying mechanics but with later skills the parrying almost becomes a suggestion. It's best to treat it like a jrpg. There are a lot of story heavy moments and you'll probably get called back to base often to progress rapport with your team mates often but if you're into that you're going to like this game. - The world is apocalyptic. One of the complaints I see often is the game isn't alive and full of npcs to the level of grand theft auto. If you aren't of mind to explore a world that keeps getting its civilization wiped out by an angry poodle of some sort every 100 years then you're going to have a bad time. - I personally think the story has been very engaging. Yes, the character is dull. That's a part of the story. There is growth in that regard. I love it. There's so much mystery thrown out at you and you look up and you'll have even more questions. It's got me hooked. - The combat is dull and stiff if you choose to make it dull and stiff. That is the default, you keep that kind of combo if you're going to be a level 1 purist. Build into vitality and start learning to throw that hair back and forth and get those aerial combos in and you're going to have a lot of fun. Or build into strength and raise that gauge for chain combos. Or just focus on your gun. You have options and none of them are bad, unless you want to be a level 1 purist like all these negative reviews I guess. On an additional note I find parrying to be very responsive and on point. I love the satisfaction of getting that wild 5 hit combo down in rhythm from some of the later deranged mobs. Dodging Red * skills is extremely forgiving and much easier to do than working with the parry system. I think they got the combat locked down very well. - There seems to be consistent negative reviews that the game doesn't look hyperrealistic as there should be a required expectation that they cannot discern reality from between the game and their mom's bedroom. From my personal experience with my attached specs I run it highest 60fps perfectly fine with graphics similar to ff7 remake/rebirth/clair obscur. I did have to tweak settings including turning depth of field off because it didn't just blur out of focus objects, it made in focus objects janky and pixelated. It just doesn't work. The camera is an issue they need to fix, that's as far as negativity goes for graphics. Gameplay I find is still fine even with the semi-booty locked camera. Let me be clear: If you're expecting elden ring 2 or gta 6 then you're going to have a bad time. If you're expecting a lightweight sekiro/nier automata that you have to screw around in settings a bit with then you're going to love this game. Story's great and it's been an atmospheric trip so far. It's a shame it's stuck in the 50% range at the time of this review because I honestly believe this game is not getting fair representation but I suppose it was bound to happen.

Wait for a ton of patches and a 50% price cut. Combat feels unrewarding and uninspired, guarding and parrying are very inconsistent and sword impacts feel like a dry pool noodle. World feels empty and lifeless for the most part, few robots here a few there and a few animals. Ran into a bug fighting an elite enemy after using Koo's ability threw me across the map and healed the boss to full. You might say well just go fight him again... NO you go fight him again I'm not dealing with this silliness. All in all it feels like a TEMU Stellar Blade for a AAA price. Really the best thing I can say about the game is it ran pretty well and the graphics weren't super bad but that's debatable depending on who you ask. 4/10

So after finally completing Beast Of Reincarnation, this game barely and i mean BARELY gets a positive rating. Steam has no inbetween rating so I want to make it clear this game is directly smack in the middle in terms of a rating. Let me explain. Pros: Graphics: The game is very nice looking. It has its moments where it has weird texture glitches and looks a little blurry, but overall its a very nice looking game. Nothing super exceptional, but definitely not anything bad. The world itself is interesting to look at and explore, beautiful buildings, nature etc. Music: The music in the game is pretty good. Its pretty obvious they are going for the stellar blade vibe with the sound track, especially the camp music and overall world ambience. You will notice it almost immediately. The battle music is very good and overall its pretty decent soundtrack. Gameplay: This game takes a long time to ramp up and unlock a bunch of stuff, but once you do it is very very good. The battle system is well done, multiple enemy weaknesses to exploit and strategize around. Different combos and skills similiar to DMC to unlock and use that all do different things. Once you unlock a lot of the skills combat really gets fantastic. Koo provides some extra strategizing, using koo's abilities with your own to create combos and openings to exploit. Theres weapon upgrades, both ranged and melee, food cooking etc. The gameplay is solid, it just takes a while to get there, which is why this review is a middle review. Weapons: There is a ton of weapons/swords in this game. Gamefreak essentially took their elemental system behind pokemon and instead of multiple pokemon of different types, you get multiple swords of different types. Lightning, fire, poison, etc. Each with their pros and cons. Some swords even combine "types", very similiar to multi type pokemon. You can see the inspiration. Cons: Very little enemy variety: I am not kidding when I say you will be fighting the same enemies the entire game. There is so few enemy variety, you can see gamefreak decided to utilize their famous copy and paste skills here. It gets extremely boring very quickly. What makes it worse, is these enemies do the same moves over and over. Different melee enemies? All pretty much have the same mechanics. You memorize all of it very quickly and before you know it, enemies become a joke very early on. Repeat Bosses: The bosses in this game are a joke. When you have other games like stellar blade, souls games, even the recent mortal shell 2...all these bosses are epic, with varied different skill sets and THIS game bosses do the SAME ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ MOVES over and over. And when i say moves, i am saying 1 or 2 moves max for most of them. Not only that, they want to extend the nushi bosses as much as possible, so alot of them run when you first fight them, making you have to fight them again. New round? Nothing changes. Same moves. One nushi I fought, I am not kidding, did the same tail swipe and ONLY the same tail swipe, the ENTIRE fight. The SAME ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ TAIL SWIPE. Over and over and over and over, till it died. These nushi are basically bigger versions of regular mobs. It is so uninspired, so boring and overall extremely disappointing. The games story bosses, based on characters in the game, are way better done HOWEVER, are still bosses that repeat the same 2-3 moves over and over and over again until death. It was a massive let down. These bosses are some of the most pathetic designed bosses Ive ever seen for a game like this. Extremely stiff movement: This game has extremely stiff movement to the point where you can literally feel how trapped you are. It is not smooth whatsoever. When you explore the world the amount of times you are caught on terrain, glitch moving after landing because you hit a corner, its pretty bad. Stellar blade had stiff movement, but nowhere near like this. Camera pre patch: The game released with one of the worst cameras ive seen for a game like this. They finally somewhat fixed it in a recent patch, but releasing the game with a super zoomed in camera like they did, with the speed this game is trying to achieve, was a massive design overlook and im glad they somewhat addressed it. It's not perfect, but the patch did help. Random Puddle Deaths: The game has very shallow creeks and such in the world to explore, but apparently stepping in random parts of those creeks, means you fall into the atlantic ocean apparently and die/reset....yeah i dont get it. Story: The game has very interesting premises and a pretty interesting world building that happens over 13 chapters. However, it takes extremely long for it to get anywhere (I wasnt interested till chapter 9) and then once it finally starts to get interesting, it falls on its face at the end as to the reasoning why all of this is happening. I just kind of face palmed at that point. Overall Beast Of Reincarnation is a extremely mid experience that barely gets a pass into positive due to the late game combat, builds and experience overall. I am extremely disappointed in this game and really felt like it could have been so much better, This is a literal 5/10 for me. Extremely mid and extremely average with just enough to say on steams review rating "yes", but with a extreme caveat of...wait for a mega sale on this game and then your money will be worth it. Thanks for reading.

Looks far more ambitious than it actually plays. I waited for a long time, and so far it feels like a budget AA game wearing expensive graphics and being sold far too close to AAA pricing. The art direction can be striking. The giant walking house is genuinely cool, the world has some strange ideas, and technically it runs well for me at native 4K60 with ray tracing on but RT is weird here. Unfortunately, once I stopped staring at the scenery and actually played it, the cracks appeared quickly. Combat feels flat and repetitive. I played on Hard, so enemies can kill you quickly, but higher damage does not make a shallow combat system deeper. Koo’s abilities constantly interrupt the flow, turning fights into repeated stop-and-start menus instead of something naturally tactical. Maybe more skills appear later, but the basic rhythm already feels awkward. Exploration is weak, movement feels restrictive, and the camps placement is awkward. The controller camera is painfully slow even at maximum sensitivity. Keyboard and mouse support is also half-baked, including not allowing normal binding of Mouse 4 and Mouse 5. Neither control method feels properly finished. The music barely leaves an impression, and Emma feels strangely empty and i assume it must be something with the lore and story? There are interesting concepts here, but the gameplay, exploration, controls, music, and general presentation feel much cheaper than the price suggests. I kept waiting for the game shown in the trailers to appear, but so far I am playing something far flatter and more repetitive. Maybe after major patches or a deep discount. Genuinely unsure about refunding.

If Beast of Reincarnation had an honest subtitle, it would literally just be called 7 Out of 10: The Game. Except honestly? It’s worse than that. I’m sitting at Chapter 7, around 20 hours in, and those 20 hours have felt like an absolute eternity. When a game makes time drag that hard, you know something is fundamentally broken. The most mind-boggling thing right off the bat is the sound design or total lack thereof. You hire legendary composers like Kow Otani (Shadow of the Colossus) and Cris Velasco, and then... one single ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ song plays across the entire game. I am losing my mind. I’ve explored at least 8 gigantic, completely empty "beta looking UE5" zones, and every single one has the exact same enemies, the exact same loot boxes full of the exact same trash, and that same single ambient track looping endlessly into my brain. Then you look at the skill system. You have a literal skill tree that is constantly blooming with new skills and Blade Arts. You keep unlocking stuff, but none of it feels impactful or good to get. Progression means nothing because you can literally just spam basic ranged bolts at enemies or bosses and watch them drop. And don't get me started on the combat mechanics. I consider myself good at Sekiro and Souls type games, I love parrying games and deflection systems, so this isn't a "get gud" issue; the game is just horribly designed. There’s supposed to be a core parry system, but it doesn't work because enemy attacks are relentless, badly telegraphed, and obscured by horrible visual artifacts, blinking lights, and glitchy UE5 lighting effects that simply should not be there. Some of the flora assets looks fine, which it better, given flowers are the whole theme of the game, but the performance and lighting are all over the place. The absolute worst part, though? The combat system actively fights itself. The game gives you all these flashy combos and special moves, but you can’t actually use them. Either an enemy interrupts your absurdly long animation, or they die way before you can even get a combo off. And if you do manage to stagger an enemy, which is supposed to be the main mechanic to set up your big moves as the standard attack button automatically triggers a lethal riposte that insta-kills them on the spot. Because you only have one main attack button, the second an enemy is staggered, the game steals your controls and forces an execution. You literally cannot unleash the big combos the tree gives you. It tries to be Nier, Shadow of the Colossus, and Pokémon all at once, but nothing works. Nothing feels good. It’s like the developers never heard of killing OR lovingly raising their darlings, leaving behind a total and complete mess. Supposedly there’s 13 chapters, which means I’m only halfway through, and despite like 12 patches already, it still feels completely empty and unpolished. There is buried potential somewhere in here, but in its current state, it’s just infuriating.

Man... So close yet so far. This review is posted @ 20 hours for a full playthrough on Hard (hardest default difficulty before NG+) This game just doesn't meet any of the expectations I'd have for virtually any aspect. Combat - 6/10 Combat reminds me a lot of Sekiro, except now there's the added "burden" of commanding your ally CONSTANTLY. Commanding Koo puts you in a slow-mo where the enemies are still attacking you. It also just breaks the flow and feel of the fight to me. One of the skills you unlock later, Laido, creates a very long end lag to your own character's attacks. This ends up delaying movement and healing a lot, and the skill itself was useless to me. While it's optional to take upfront, one of the achievements is to unlock and upgrade everything. The camera is fine for the most part except on some of the larger bosses where your camera angle is behind the boss making all their attacks obscured. Ranged weaponry is very underwhelming. You have a limited number of arrows / bolts to use in a fight. Probably due to being on hard mode, but I'd be emptying out my entire stock of arrows killing a single enemy. With upgrades later on they actually start to pickup again later, but that mid-game section feels poor in terms of ranged weapons. Combos just don't even seem feasible to pull off. Fully investing into skill speed, applying root or shock on a boss (CC), and they still swing back and break my combo before it finishes. As others mention, you end up defaulting to the very short combos to even have a chance of getting the finisher off. Enemies - 2/10 The same 15 or so enemies get reused over, and over, and over for the entire game. The same enemies you see in Chapter 1 are still reused all the way until the end in the overworld with barely anything being added. Elite enemies are just tankier versions of the same enemies. Bosses - 1/10 Boss design feels underwhelming at best. Bosses are mostly all 2 phase and the second phase is just the first phase with an extra move or two added in. But that's not all. Almost every boss in the game you have to fight twice, meaning that you actually have to fully beat them 4 times. Twice in a row in the first fight, and twice in a row in the second fight. This just isn't satisfying. Not to mention that you have the SAME cutscenes for end of phase 1 and end of fight. One of the bosses you have to fight and clear on THREE separate occasions which I found insane. And the movesets are identical across all 3 fights. This might just be an issue with playing on hard mode, but the bosses just feel like sponges and it becomes a slog. Their movesets are also quite limited so there isn't even too much you need to learn. Cleared nearly every boss on the 1st to 3rd try on Hard. There just wasn't that much going on. Map Design - 5/10 I'll lump in movement and traversal in this. The first set of maps are huge and very empty. One note is that you can jump very high, and the devs did make some use of verticality in this. However the emptiness feels even worse with this in mind as you're not just scouring large, empty horizontal maps, you're scouring tall vertical structures as well with the same results. A lot of the rewards are just generic loot. Add on the fact that it's not a 1 click button to claim loot. You click to open the box, then have to claim the loot from the box, adding an extra delay. One thing I did quite like was the Keeper Golem mechanic that allows you to choose 1 key point of interest to reveal on your map. Later on in the story the maps becomes corridors. Music / OST - 5/10 I liked what I heard, but there wasn't much to hear. The same tracks are played over and over again for the most part. Maybe 8-10 hours of the 20 hour playthrough was done in the overworld with the same track playing. Story - 3/10 Pacing is atrocious. I was relatively thorough and there was very little information for the player up until the last 20% of the game where all the story gets dumped on you at once. Overall felt very similar to Nier Automata. So I can't even really say it's original. Cutscenes were terribly stiff for story. Very long delays / pauses between characters speaking. They're basically all brick walls that's how little animation there was. The majority of the early game was just focused on teaching Emma what "love" means - about 8-9 chapters worth, and then the entire story is told in the span of 3 chapters. Overall rating - 4/10 Genuinely feels unfinished, especially at a $80 CAD price point. There's a stark difference between the size of the maps between the first half and second half of the game. Lack of music, enemy, and boss diversity. Imagine this, you re-fight the first boss again before you're even given any substantial information on the story. So pacing just felt off.

A mix of Sekiro parrying and Nier/Stellar Blade. When comparing Beast to these past games (which I also love), people seem to forget how bad the combat could be at times, how empty those worlds were themselves, or even the "repetitive" fights. It only seems to be an issue for this game. Some "issues" I would argue against (while playing hard mode and on a controller): -Little to no monster variation Dudes landed in the first area and made a negative review. No ♥♥♥♥ there's the same monsters in the same area. They haven't come close to finishing Chapter 1 (out of 13 per google ), and are already complaining. As of this review, 3.6% of players have the achievement for beating the Chapter 2 boss. There's a lot of game left. -Same music for the whole game Music literally changes per zone. Same as Nier. Don't see anyone complaining about it for that game. Another case of landing in the first area and complaining. -No English dub / Cinematic fps locked It's in the settings dawg. First time? -We have to fight bosses multiple times / boss fights are too long :( Ever heard of phases? Reincarnation is also in the game name, in case you missed it. Git gud applies here. -Clunky/floaty combat I'm convinced people say clunky when they don't know how to describe gameplay. It's lazy af. Combat feels fast, fluid and responsive. It does what I want it to do. You're ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ right it's "floaty," a few of the strong attack skills require you to be in the air, but I know these mfers haven't gotten that far. I still think Nioh has the best combat for a soulslike, but this game is on the same ground as it's comparisons. There is a choice between story, normal, or hard mode. That said, if you pick hard mode, you will have to parry. Some actual concerns: -Optimization and monitor settings I haven't had these issues myself given my pc specs, but the game may run poorly depending on your setup. Also many complaints of the lack of ultra-wide monitor support. With my setup, I am at 100 fps on the highest settings, capped at 100 due to personal preference. -Weird character textures in menu This is a minor issue, but you will notice the difference in graphics while using the menu. -Lack of character customization As far as I know, the only appearances you can change are the character's hat and the wolf. -Wolf combat camera Using the wolf's skills forces you to watch from the same camera angle every time, never in another direction of a fight. This includes moments where that camera would be right next to a wall. Things I liked: -Little to no handholding After the tutorial, the game throws you into the first zone with a lot of new things unlocked. You are able to go around anywhere and even delay the first quest. The rest of the tutorial is tucked away in the menu. -Movement Movement is definitely a strong suit in this game, with a lot of freedom thanks to the seamless jump boost and bridge mechanics. The jump boost mechanic might be my favorite kind of "double jump" in any game I've played. Getting around is quick and easy. You can explore and get rewarded with potentially skipping some sections or finding items/discoveries. -Quick run-backs Up to now, there have always been checkpoints before a boss. The run-backs are painless, with 1-2 seconds of loading up after dying. -Combat transitions Finishing moves, specials, wolf skills and other abilities are quick and seamless with one another. There is a lot you can do if you're quick enough. There is no "turn-based" combat like people think - the wolf skills just slow the game down while you choose an attack, followed by a QTE for extra damage, though the QTEs could be more varied. Final Thoughts There are a lot of bad reviews going off 1 hr or less of playing time, or even the hate for the Game Freak itself. I agree with the thinking that Nintendo and Pokemon have become pretty bad these days, but this game is low key a hidden gem. Definitely not as bad as the reviews make it seem. Anytime someone says "this game rips off ___," guess what, all those games ripped off the OG Demon's Souls, which was probably inspired by something else itself.

People are review bombing a game again because of the release time (just go to bed earlier or just play it later, its a singleplayer game lol) and because they cant even read through all ingame settings as they complain about 24fps cutscenes when theres literally a setting for unlocked frame rate during cutscenes. Theres no ultrawide support, go cry I guess. I believe some guy already made an ultrawide support before the game even got released. Still not smth to give an entire game a bad review. So far the game is very optimized. Frame drops here and there sometimes but those are mainly loading sections or shader compilations. Playing on 1440p High, DLSS Balanced 60fps limit. I dont need more than that. Anyone that played any fromsoft game probably doesnt need more than 60. People kinda misunderstand this game, its not a souls-like, sure it plays like one but its not. Difficulty settings are already proving that. Souls Games have no dfficulty setting. The game is centered more around rpg. The deflect window is very long, even on hard difficulty meaning that even game journalists can enjoy the game. For Sekiro enjoyers or overall souls-like enjoyers this is obviously gonna be a rather easy game. Story-wise, im not far yet but im enjoying it and I dont think im gonna get disappointed either. Soundtrack is also very nicely done. In my opinion this is a very great game from the pokemon devs and it shows that they can do even greater stuff. I'm not a pokemon fan and I heard the latest games didnt go well but this is smth that interests a wider playerbase and I truly hope that Game Freak is doing more of that.

Beast of Reincarnation was honestly disappointing for me.. The optimization is pretty bad, even on my 5060ti (16gb one), and the game just doesn’t feel polished enough for a full price release.. The AI usage also really takes me out of it, feels weird seeing that in a game like this.. Then they delayed the release by 6 hours, which was already annoying, but smh pirates were playing the game 3 days earlier while people who actually preordered it at full price were still waiting.. After all this, I’m definitely waiting for a sale. Not worth paying full price for this one imo..

So far so good - feels like a blend of Sekiro, NieR Automata and Princess Mononoke. Combat feels slick and the "hair" movement extending vertically and horizontally is a really nice touch that opens up the game. Also finally a dev that added a setting for cutscene framerate.

Honorable attempt Game Freak but it was kinda mid. Fought the same enemies and bosses dozens of times. The cutscenes and voices were unbearable most of the time. Beat it on Hard. 6/10 AT MOST performance was good. no crashes.

if you want to play soulslike game but afraid of it's too git gud, don't worry, this game is for you because it has difficulty settings and the story difficulty is casual friendly 26 hours to beat in story mode, for me the big minus for this game is the framerate stability sure there are many of repetitive bosses fight ( same boss design ), but some of bosses and final boss were amazing the storyline build up is slow at the beginning, but it keeps getting interesting little by little, nearly at the end it gets roller coaster feelings, the ending was amazing so much fun with the combat, comboing the enemies with sword skill and kuu's skill the exploration was amazing, it has variety , one level has amazing verticality one big plus is the OST, so peaceful, reminds me of stellar blade music you can wait for discount, definitely must play.

This isn't a very good game, but it also isn't necessarily a bad game entirely, considering I sat through the whole thing. There are a few moments in my playthrough where I'm thinking, "Wow this is nice." But MOST of the time I'm thinking, "Whose idea was this to design <subject> like this?". Here are my thoughts on this game. Pros: Visuals The visuals for this game is absolutely fantastic, they have nailed the post-apocalyptic feel for the world. Overall it is a very interesting world to look at. One of the visual highlights in particular for me would be the Malefact and Nushi designs, they are very grotesque-looking but also beautiful looking at the same time. Soundtrack This game's soundtrack is not bad, it fits the game's world nicely. It mostly uses a very calming soundtrack (Similar to Stellar Blade) for their overworlds and camp areas. Battle music is okay, not the most memorable but gets the job done. Koo He's a good boy. Mixed: Combat There are both good and bad things I think about the combat. Starting with the good, for a parry-focused game they have achieved an almost perfect feeling and sound when parrying attacks, very satisfying. That's unfortunately where the good ends for me. The loop of the combat is to attack the enemy and wait for their turn to attack and parry to build up points for Koo (your dog companion) to spend the points for his own set of attacks. While they had the right idea for this loop, I feel that it does not flow smoothly as you'd expect. Its pretty obvious they were trying to go for a FF7R styled ATB system with Sekiro gameplay but when you're selecting a skill attack for Koo, time does not fully stop like it does in FF7R, not giving you enough time to read your skills to adapt to the current situation. And when you do send out Koo's attack, time then completely stops and only resumes after the animation is finished. There is no shortcut menu for your skills like in FF7R to prevent these issues so there is too much interruption in the combat flow because of these. Build variety and direction The build variety for both Emma (the MC) and Koo is quite large and overwhelming. They both have their own set of skill trees, individual character levels and shared skill tree points. There does not seem to be a real answer to which part of the skill tree to work for (it splits into 3 from the very start), I went through the entire game without really thinking about it too much and eventually balancing everything out for both Emma and Koo's. Emma can equip up to 6 Spirit Stones which roughly determines the build you want for the characters, there is quite a large selection of them and I had really only changed them up like twice maybe in the playthrough because there was never a point in the game where I was forced to change them to progress. Koo has the same equivalent to Spirit Stones in the form of Support Skills they can be both defensive skills (buffs, heals) or offensive skills (atk power increase, applying status to enemy) of your choosing. Once again, there are way too many options for the builds and I went through the game without really feeling I needed to change it up while being overwhelmed on the options. In result of these, it quickly becomes a collection of build options rather than a system that encourages build experimentation. You can equip up to 6 attack skills (the gauge built from parries) for Koo which is tied to a specific element to deal elemental damage. While elemental weaknesses are quite strong in some specific situations, I found that there is no real reason to always be running the correct set elements to always be executing the enemies' elemental weakness. Most of the skills end up doing the same amount of damage anyways so I ran 6 different elements and called it a day. For everything above regarding the build variety, the options are there but I would imagine the average player (myself included), will not spend too much time experimenting with the builds and stick with one thing and move on. Exploration One of the highlights of the exploration for me Emma having the ability to be able to create your own bridge to shortcut towards a path and the ability to scale very high to reach certain areas. Also the map progression is a little less hand-holdy than what you might think, making you actually look around and how to approach certain areas, platforming included. The rest of the game's exploration system is subjective. Points of Interest interactions and items are highlighted on your screen as you explore, most of these were seen through the wall and I had a lot of moments where the flow of exploration was interrupted because the item I was seeing through the wall was an inaccessible item until later. There is also no incentive to go out and explore the rest of the map. You will find extra items if you go explore, but the rewards are so lacking it makes you think why even explore if its the same type of items (quick consumables, small currency, food ingredients etc). Cons: Repetitive soundtrack While the soundtrack for the game is good, it quickly got repetitive due to them using the same overworld song for like 3 maps in a row while progressing the story. They do eventually change it up, but it had still affected my experience of the game very early on because of it. Variety in enemies, bosses and attack patterns There is very little enemy and boss variety throughout the entire game and they only do a maximum of 3 moves each. Once you learn all of the attack patterns, all the fights start feeling the same and boring because there is nothing new. The only thing combating this for me is that the parries feel good to execute, as stated above as a pro. Cutscene and voice acting direction Just for reference, I played in the JP dub for this game. Going into this game, when I saw that Yui Ishikawa (Voice of 2B, Mikasa Ackerman) was voicing Emma, I knew I was in for a treat. But they had somehow turned her (alongside the rest of the cast), into the most boring and lifeless characters I've heard in a while. There is ZERO emotion in ANY of the characters for this game, and it lasts throughout the ENTIRE GAME. Not to mention that combined with the cutscene directions (mostly in the home base hub), it is painful to sit through the character dialogues because they're all the in the same lifeless tone and the story barely makes up for it, there is barely any animations during the cutscenes too. The cutscenes also drag out for very long as well. --- Performance The performance was surprisingly decent for UE5 on my PC, averaging 70–80 FPS at 1440p on an optimised mixed Medium/High settings. Although the default post-processing made the game look unnecessarily blurry. --- Conclusion In short, Beast of Reincarnation is a very mid game at most and I cannot recommend this game. The devs are pushing out patches post release fixing certain bugs and adding QoL and whatnot but unfortunately it will not fix the game because the issues I've had are game design issues and not game launch issues.

If this game shows anything, it’s that Game Freak are capable of making a graphically beautiful game and their talents are somewhat wasted on just Pokémon, but there is still a lot to be desired with Beast of Reincarnation. Characters are bland, Emma is a boring protagonist but honestly I’d point that to bad writing and poor direction with the voice acting. Doesn’t help there was no proper facial animation to show emotion. Koo on the other hand, he’s such a good boy! Love Koo. Like I said before, graphics are gorgeous. The setting is so pretty and well made! Enemies are bit meh, you fight one robot you’ve fought them all. Boss battles are pretty damn good, the battle with Kunai and the final boss or some of the highlights for me. Big issues with the game, performance at launch was terrible, should not have been launched in that state. It has been improved but there’s still some frame issues and stuttering, while Game Freak is showing how well they can do graphics they forgot about optimisation. Story is just a bit eh. Not great, not well written, stopped paying attention after a while. I do vaguely remember they said it would be Steam Deck verified when it launched, and it’s currently Unsupported, so little bit of a porky there. I did play some of this on Steam Deck with low settings but Lossless Scaling enabled, made it somewhat playable but in the end I moved to a desktop PC. I sadly cannot recommend this game, as it is just meh and not worth the £50 price tag. If you have to give it a shot, wait for a sale and for it to be heavily discounted. Again beautiful game, but that’s it. Everything else is just bland. Rating: 6/10
