Fun if you know what you're getting yourself into. It's a Korean MMO, so there is P2W. With that said its mainly a PvE focused game with a lot of the PvP being either equalised in some modes or restricted into to power categories in others (abyss). Besides that it is a fun "numbers go up" type of game with a heavy focus in both vertical and horizontal progression (literaly everything you do counts towards your total power), for example just killing a cool looking mob will unlock it as a mount and also give you permanent stats if you kill it x number of times. Combat is pretty simple on all classes, and all classes are equally "good", which allows you to really just play whatever is cool aesthetically. The main difficulty in the game comes from the higher end dungeons/raids that have pretty crazy mechanics later on which makes you grateful your class doesnt require giga sweat actions per minute. Character customization is really good, you can spend hours in it. Another nice thing is gear you "dismantle" becomes account wide cosmetics, so eventually you will sit on a bunch of different, free cosmetics you can mix and match. The only important and most likely cause of people not adopting the game would be the monthly subscription model it has, which allows access to marketplace (sell and buy stuff), gives 2x dungeons drops (using 2x the energy) and a bunch of other QOL stuff. It will feel really painful to play completely F2P without this active. But if you're happy with progressing slower and being "Solo self found" mode its not really an issue - unless you're aiming for the top 10%. A lucky F2P can technically be on par with most of the casual subscription users, albeit it unlikely. Its also possible to earn the premium currency in game via the market, which is what I did and made about $60 worth of premium currency on the first few days of launch. It really is a marathon and not a sprint type of game. So the best tip you can get would be to just do whatever is fun in the game, dont overoptimise and min max sweat if you dont want to.

I can't recommend the game the way it is right now... and the crazy part it's not even the gameplay or graphics or servers that's the issue, but the monetization. EDIT: They are changing the Founder's items to be account wide, but the subscription stays SERVER locked... same as the skins you purchase, and no change to the pass too, soo... one step in the right direction, they probably realized not disclosing any of this on the steam page can get them in legal trouble... Still I can't accept their reasoning that they have that restriction to combat bots... you literally made killing mobs drop unbound Kina (the currency you use in AH)... and who can farm mobs easy!? That's right literal 24/7 bots... /EDIT Pretty much everything you can spend money on is either server locked or CHARACTER locked. The game gives you ZERO warning that your subscription is SERVER locked, yup... you want to try the other faction? Want to play with a friend and your server is full? You can't use any of your founder items now... Surely the TWO Battle passes must be at least server unlocks right? NO, NOPE not at all... it is CHARACTER locked... what a great idea... Anyone who like to have alts... this game is not for you. Not to mention without the SERVER locked subscription you can't even trade in the AH so you are basically playing a solo self found game with some co-op at that point. I don't even understand WHY have these restrictions... every skin you buy from the shop is also server locked... I can understand region locks, but server or character is just crazy... The fact that I have a monthly sub and I can't even get free customization... or at least a monthly Quna (premium currency) based on the sub price... The game is fun so far... but these weird decisions just make no sense to me and it just makes me not want to buy anything at all... especially cause I like to play alts and try both faction before I commit to playing one of them as the main one... but now if I end up liking the other faction, I "lost" all my stuff I paid for or got as a twitch drop... EDIT 2: I reached level 45 on my Spiritmaster, and 1300+ GS or the other thing that shows a bigger score, the "end game" for now. I tried the Rift stuff, the dungeons in conquest mode, ran out of the energy to do more dungeons (can't open the RNG cube), I didn't try Abyss (Open world PvP map) but saw people saying that it is also restricted to 8-hour weekly limit (Excuse me WHAT!?). The dungeons are like this (at least for now): you run past everything on mount kill boss, go to next boss, you also glide to last boss in some cases. You don't really need a tank or even healer right now if you know what you are doing, buff removing (at least on Spiritmaster), stagger stigma skills etc, potions will heal you and your macros destroy everything. Everything in the game is just RNG upon RNG, gathering has a fail/success part and it is % based. All the small "dungeons" and strongholds you do give skills point and "talent" points that you MUST do on all characters. Alts are needed to actually be able to play more or to use the enhancement stones etc to feed it to your main. You don't really have any builds pretty much, there is VERY small amount of choice you need to make in terms of skills or talent and most people will make the same choices by themselves for obvious reasons. The world bosses are boring and the loot you get is 99.9% times fragments for the pictures you can put into Pantheon that will eventually give stats once you killed a couple thousand of the bosses (depending on rarity of the morphable images), or they give some blue or green gear that you only want for the skin, WHICH is also RNG when you extract it... sure you have a chance to get yellows but they are worse than the dungeon gear usually so... again... they will be skins eventually. At least the in game Closet for skins is server based and FREE to use anytime so you can dress up your alts. The pet and mount system is great and fun, most creatures and enemies you can get as a pet and mount, even some bosses, and again it's FREE. Even from a gameplay standpoint I just can't recommend the game, I really tried to like it and hoped it is good in the end game, but the amount of restrictions they have and the way the gearing works, I can't recommend it. Again you might enjoy this exact mobile style instant gratification, restricted weekly casual style, but I don't, NCSoft published Guild Wars 2 and Guild Wars 1 (My top 1 game of all time) and they still can't just look at it and be like, let's do that but with AION skin... /EDIT 2

[REFUNDED] I genuinely want to recommend this game, because the actual game itself is not the problem. The gameplay is fun, the graphics are good, and so far I haven't had any major issues with the servers either. The problem is the monetization and the ridiculous restrictions attached to almost everything you pay for. Why is so much paid content locked to either ONE server or even ONE character? If you buy a Founder's Pack, you would naturally assume that the rewards you paid for are account-wide. Apparently not. Once you claim certain items on a character, they're tied to that character. So if that was your first character and you later decide you don't like the class, faction, appearance, or whatever else... congratulations, your paid items are sitting there with it. And deleting that character? Better make sure you understand what happens to those items first. Then there's the subscription. It's SERVER-LOCKED. There is basically no proper warning making it obvious that you're paying for benefits that aren't available across your entire account. Want to switch servers because your friend plays somewhere else? Your server is full? Want to try the other faction somewhere else before deciding what you actually want to main? Too bad. The subscription benefits don't simply follow your account. Then we have not one, but TWO Battle Passes. Surely those are at least shared across the server, right? NOPE. CHARACTER-LOCKED. So if you're someone who enjoys making alts, experimenting with different classes, or simply trying multiple characters before choosing a main, the monetization system actively discourages you from doing that. It gets even stranger when you realize that without the server-specific subscription, you can't properly participate in features like Auction House trading. At that point it starts feeling like you're playing some weird solo-self-found version of an MMO with co-op attached to it. Even cosmetics from the shop being server-locked makes absolutely no sense to me. I can understand REGION restrictions. Different regions can have different publishers, pricing, infrastructure, regulations, etc. But SERVER-locked paid cosmetics? CHARACTER-locked Battle Passes? Why? And if I'm already paying for a monthly subscription, why isn't there at least some additional value attached to it? Free character customization occasionally? A monthly amount of Quna based on the subscription tier? Something that actually makes the subscription feel worthwhile across the account? That's the frustrating part: I actually LIKE the game. The gameplay isn't what makes me hesitate to recommend it. The monetization structure and restrictions does. Instead of making me want to spend money, these restrictions have had the exact opposite effect. I don't want to buy cosmetics, Battle Passes, or anything else because I don't know whether the character or server I'm currently playing will even be the one I stick with. I like creating alts. I like testing classes. I want to experience both factions before committing to a main. That's completely normal behavior in an MMO. OH and, if you want to delete your character, it must be level 10 first and then there is this 7 day deletion time. I'm just laughing very hard. But with the current system, changing your mind can mean leaving behind things you PAID for, Founder's rewards, or even rewards such as Twitch Drops. Account-wide purchases should actually feel ACCOUNT-WIDE. Until these restrictions are changed, I simply can't recommend spending money on the game and unfortunately, they also make it difficult for me to recommend the game itself. [REFUNDED]

Writing this from the perspective of an OCE player on Asia servers. Aion 2's overall gameplay experience is one that is layered with lots of little issues that ultimately make it a frustrating and unenjoyable one. Unreal Engine 5 should be enough of a red flag by now to let you know what kind of game you're getting into. I'm running a 3080 and seeing manageable frame rates on the lowest settings, however the performance tanks massively when entering areas where there are higher concentrations of players, such as towns, large scale PvP events and some events. I've seen that the same performance issues are common across the board, even for people with a 5080 or similar GPU. Ping is mostly manageable, however there are issues with desync that aren't aided by the current damage to the Australia Singapore Cable. There are instances where you will take damage regardless of whether you are clearly dodging an attack. I personally have not tried ExitLag for this, but I'm sure it would help. To save on long winded rants, I'll just list off some personal issues I had with the game: - Level scaling leads to never feeling like you're becoming stronger - Inventory management is absolutely terrible - Resource gathering can be failed and takes a needlessly long and random amount of time early on - Player collision leads to instances where autopathing fails, as it cannot move past someone standing in the middle of an autopath area, as well as physically blocking people from interacting with NPCs in busier areas - Auto translation feature is awful at best. It can't even translate linked things such as parties and map pins without differing in translation across several languages; sometimes completely breaking the things that are linked. This is particularly jarring on a server where multiple foreign languages are spoken. - The majority of skill points and daevanion points are locked behind incredibly tedious dungeons and side quests. - A bunch of the side quests are time gated behind Spacetime Rifts, which generally only spawn once every 3 hours. If you walk into the wrong area when entering a Spacetime Rift, you can be instantly killed by a guard and kicked out of the instance. - You can set your skills up in a way that makes it so you hold down one button to win every encounter. - Crafting needlessly has layers of RNG to craft the best things. - Stats don't feel streamlined. Some stat upgrades are locked behind unlocking titles or pets, as well as the 'genus insight' system that is layered on top of the pet system. The level scaling directly impacts your efficiency in increasing stats through the latter system. - Pay to Win stuff is a nightmare. The premium currency packs are strategically calculated to rip you off and buy more than you need. There's already two battlepasses running in tandem and both require a separate purchase of their respective 'premium' versions, costing $30 USD if you want both. Real money can be converted into currency that lets you buy gear. - Subscription is $13 a month and grants you access to the market among other things. - Paid cosmetics, while optional, are expensive. A costume skin is $30, wings are $20, pets are $20, weapons are $12. In general, the game feels incredibly generic and doesn't really do anything fun or interesting. There's not really any reason you should choose to play nor pay for this game over other existing, successful MMORPG titles. There's a lot more I could say about the game, but I think to some extent it's just not for me. I'm still willing to give it a fair chance, but I just can't recommend it in good faith, especially if you're a prospective OCE player.

Azphelumbra, friend! Long read ahead but I needed something to do while waiting for my McDonald's breakfast. If you don't want to read it boils down to this: If you want to try the game, just try it. It's fun, there's a ton of people playing on either faction. You don't 'need' to P2W to enjoy content to its fullest, the game encourages you to just play it. If you wanted PVP like in Aion 1, it's not here so you can take your hidden sin self back to a private server and gank unsuspecting lowbies aethertapping there. Game looks nice, combat is fun, Chanters can do actual dps while still buffing in PVE now without being gimped and Clerics can still be Clorcs with their lightning bubble. ---------------------------- If you were a fan of the original Aion, this may not be for you aside from the music and that nostalgic feeling we get when we think of the 3.0 Golden Days. However, as a fan of the original Aion, this was the first thing that I found that I enjoyed. Hearing the iconic intro chant and cacophonous music reminded me of some fantastic times and Aion 2 was the opportunity to create some more gaming memories within a franchise that quite frankly, helped me mentally throughout my 20's (I know I'm lame). Is there P2W? Yes, but hear me out. The main sub is around the price of my FF14 sub but I actually get something for it rather than just 'being allowed to play the game'. A lot of it is convenience like accessing your bank anywhere but the 'P2W' aspect is the Odyle recharge rate and the ability to spend double that energy at the end of dungeons to get drops. You are not getting 'more' with the sub, you are just getting it faster. Are there battlepasses that contribute to P2W? Yes. In KR/TW the battlepasses were level gated and you could buy them using in-game Kinah, in Global they are free (like TW/KR) but you can pay for the extra 'premium' line. You essentially get double what they offer. One is more upgrade materials and the other is Odyle energy etc. What makes this P2W is more that you can just buyout the entire pass and get it all in one go and honestly...it's not that bad a price, realistically. If I recall, both passes last 2 or 3 months, so if you want to spend £200/200euro every 3 months on passes, I mean...it's not Lost Ark prices. Can you get 'end game' gear without P2W? Yes. Aion 2 encourages you to just 'play the game'. Sure there will be a small amount of people, mostly streamers and content creators that have juiced themselves up to the gills, but for normal people who don't play 15 hours a day, you can absolutely catch up. I have also seen/heard a lot of those people who can juice 'because they can' say that it is also a colossal waste of money. By the time the season ends, everyone who is playing who wants to reach BiS, will have gotten there one way or another and when another season starts, time to start again! And that's ok. Is there P2W in the shop? No. There is nothing you can buy with real money in the shop that will make you stronger. No tempering solutions, no dungeon resets, no enchantment stones. Only things you can buy for the paid currency (Quna) is cosmetics and battlepasses. tldr for this section: It's more 'Pay2Progress' if you want everything in 5 days. Get the sub, it's a f2p and the sub is worth it. If everyone is able to get everything within a week of release, then the game will die fast as there will be nothing to work towards over time. So take your time! ------------------------- Graphically it's a nice looking game, character creator is fun and doesn't limit you. Making tiny characters doesn't work the same here as it does in Aion 1 but it is fun seeing people with the minute figures scurrying around with their bobbleheads. My PC isn't insane and I can't run everything on Max unless I want my CPU to burn out but with a Ryzen 5600x, 3070ti, 16gb ram and working fans, my GPU barely breaks a sweat. The game is very CPU heavy so it's usually at 80-83degrees in extremely busy areas but aside from that it's like, 75-77. Asmodae's Altgard doesn't really look like its original iteration but I see they have tried to implement the 'purple sky' in some areas with the use of the clouds and lighting to imitate some of Aion 1's 'asmo atmosphere'. It uses old/new/remixed OST's from the first game which feels nice. I feel some of the changes made to Altgard is because they made Morheim the 'snowy' map (was there on KR/TW) and as we know, Altgard. Morheim and Beluslan all have predominantly ice and snow but I understand that each map now is a massive biome that needs variation. Elysea is probably more faithful to Verteron in some ways but it is jarring hearing music from Kamar there. Like Altgard, Verteron was very sunny/dusty in some areas and green in others but it wasn't as jarring as just the pure ice and snow with little respite areas in Altgard (mainly surrounding the fortress). This new Verteron map feels more like old Eltnen with new Eltnen (later release, currently available KR/TW) is just desert. I guess the devs actually care about Aion 1 lore huh? Either way, it was nice roaming around both faction maps and seeing place names and going "OH YEAH!" at each of them and trying to find similarities between this new iteration and the old. The Abyss they made nearly 1:1 but it does feel a little 'smaller', but it's still super cool to see. There's references to the Ruins of Roah and that awful patch with Ereshkigal but I'll take what I can get! They have seiges there but they're mildly different to Aion 1 Abyss seiges. There's also a 1000 player cap in the Abyss at one time too so...yeah. -------------------------- "But the game has a mobile UI and is made for mobile and plays like mobile!!" No. The game originally had plans for a mobile companion which HAS BEEN SCRAPPED in favour of pure PC development. Be grateful devs actually listen to players. The UI has annoying red blips but so does Where Winds Meet. It's just an annoying thing some games have now to show "here, you have something new!" The combat/skills UI is more like TERA and it's also fully customisable. "But but but, you can just press and hold one button and the game plays itself." No. You can assign a 'macro' to a bunch of skills but not ALL OF THEM ALL AT ONCE in one long sequence. You know what other game had macros? AION 1. The devs have also stated that they're nerfing the macro capability to ensure more actual button pressing/skill expression takes place. Just because the game doesn't have 50 skills like Aion 1 (looking at you sorc/sm) doesn't mean that the game is 'mobile adjacent'. In KR, if you were low dps they'd call you a 'mobile user' as an insult. ----------------------- Overall, I see the game doing well and if they update it the same way they did in TW/KR, I think it will have a healthy playerbase for a good while. Obviously, I think some adjustments would need to be made considering the mentality of the Western audience but with Growth support events that encourage you to use them on existing characters and not new ones (like in Lost Ark), they understand that spending time away from the game can make you feel like you will be left behind. I went back to TW after 6 months, took the Growth Support event and was able to hit the number requirements for the new content just by playing, questing and catching up. There is NO NEED TO FOMO. As I said earlier, if everyone got everything within the first week of a 3 month season, there will be months of dead servers and content because no one will need anything from said content. So take your time and just...play like a normal person and stop trying to catch up to oil barons and content creators that can write their P2W expenditure off as a business expense. ---------------------- May you find peace in the Darkness.

The game itself is great if you like mmo's and grinds. It has the most in depth character creator I've seen in a mmo. The graphics are gorgeous and the gameplay is fun enough. The story is interesting and the side quests have some meat to them. Collecting mounts in this game is pretty fun. However the game does have a lot of issues right now and whether or not they will be addressed remains to be seen. The monetization in this game is very scummy. Outfits/items bought on the store can only be applied to 1 character and are very overpriced. A single outfit runs $40 which is what you can get full games for during a Steam sale. Buying a subscription doesn't give you access to the premium tier of the battle passes "that's not a typo btw, there are 2 battle passes". You have to pay even more money to unlock the premium tiers. By the way, I looked through both of the battle passes and there are no cosmetics items, even in the premium tiers so be prepared to fork over even more money if you want cosmetic items. Inventory management is a mess. There is a very limited amount of inventory space. There are tons of currencies in this game and each of them take up an inventory space. There are also a ton of crafting materials that will bloat your inventory if you plan to do any gathering/crafting. There are bound and non bound types of the same item that each take their own inventory space. There are tons of buff items that take up tons of inventory space. This game desperately needs a currency bag/crafting bag etc separate from your inventory.

I knew in the first 10 seconds (post-tutorial) that the game was going to be rough, movements feels bad, combat is whatever, maps have nothing in them, mini-dungeons are a one time thing and single player. The game has at least two season passes, overpriced cash shop, literally everything feels AI generated and the performance is atrocious. It is beyond me how people went -allegedly- crazy over this uninteresting nothing-burger. It is not worth your time, there are better ways to spend your time.

Aion 2 is a single-player campaign game masquerading as an MMO. Every story mission is a single-player instance. You can't enjoy the game with friends. Unfortunately, it takes a couple of hours to work through the noob area to find that out, or I would have returned it for a refund. I’m just not interested in playing an "MMO" that I cannot experience with friends. Modern MMOs are just not any sort of MMO that I would want to play.

Don't let the visuals fool you, all they are after is ur wallet for the following reasons: 1. You buy founder pack and for many countries that are not region locked, you get access denied and you have to pay for VPN service to overcome it 2. Support team is bad as F, they don't respond on NC ticket, Discord reported bugs.....non (Zero Response) 3. And guess what after all that wait on queue along side the time waisted trying to solve unsolvable issue.....you can't refund because you exceeded 2 hours steam policy THIS GAME is a typical Korean WALLET MILKING trap, save yourself the money, energy and self peace and don't ever think of buying or playing it when it launches on the 5th!

While I see the sentiment of the mmo community trying to protect the west from the overall unjust manipulative business models of most mmos from the east, I think we should still give credit where credit is due. For the first time in quite a while, we have an Unreal 5 mmo that doesn't run like absolute garbage, looks beautiful and is well-optimised. just this alone, is a great achievement. now, I will mention this review will only provide my overall feedback and feel towards the starting parts of the game, so it will be updated accordingly if Nc ever tries to go back to their greedy ways... this is where the community will get a bit... splitted. The big elephant in the room... The monetization. I think the mmo community, while rightfully fighting back p2w systems, should also realise that mmos are expensive. the servers are expensive. just to make ends meet and keep the game running, nc is probably burning a LOT of money. pets: if we exclude the cosmetic pets in store which is a standard practise by now, the pet system is fair. you kill a couple of mobs and there you go you got yourself a pet. no too hard to reach achievements, no 1% luck mounts, it seems from my first impression to be a well-made system overall. it's refreshing to have what I will consider as a fair pet system. some helpful items are in the store, but not anything game breaking. the game seems to be mostly pve, with some really minor pvp parts that are mostly adjusted and equalized. so personally for me it's not a deal breaker. there is a suspicious looking goofy "upgrade your weapon based on chance" bs which I will try and give a negative review if it's the usuall nonsense. but as of now, I found no real reason to give the game a negative review, but like I said, we should keep an eye on nc just incase...

When I heard that Aion 2 was being released, I became nostalgic for the original Aion. I'm not under any delusions that it would be the same game but I had hoped it had at least retained what had made it unique. Would there be rifting? Would there be Dredge? Would we be running Bakarma over and over until a Gladdie got their extendable polearm drop? Would we still have those crazy, frustrating, hilarious, unforgettable moments that made Aion, Aion? I wanted Aion 2 to succeed. I really did. I was excited, but it's not the same MMORPG world that I remember. The landscape for most games has changed because of whales, pay-to-win, mobile MMOs, battle passes, free-to-play, so many currencies, and monetized QoL have turned them into something very different from the golden era of MMORPGs (which I feel was the late 1990s through the early 2010s). I miss it. Not because the games were perfect, they were most definitely not. They were grindy, buggy, unbalanced, frustrating, and sometimes downright disrespectful of your time. But that was a time when being bad at your class was just part of your journey. They felt like immersive worlds. You learned your class by playing it, you learned about other classes by playing them, you learned dungeons by wiping in them, and learned PvP by getting humbled by someone far better than you, and there was always someone better. You learned from mistakes. You learned from dueling...every one, every day. You learned from guildies. You asked in chat. You wiped. You rage quit, then logged in again the next day like nothing ever happened. Someone ninja’d the loot. You explored. You died if you ran outta flight time. You made dumb decisions. You got ganked. You ganked someone else. You remembered the person who helped you after you got jumped. You remembered good healers, and the bad. You remembered the tank who saved the party. You watched a DPS kill themselves on reflect and somehow it was the funniest thing that happened until the next fook up. Good Times. They don't need to sell me an endgame weapon directly to feel like it's pay-to-win. This whole game is built around over-priced passes, currencies, skins, and paid convenience, it's just a moneypit with wings. Why is the Black Cloud Merchant so expensive? Why is everything so expensive? The problem is not only that it's heavily monetized, it's how many restrictions are attached to the things you pay for. Why is so much of our paid content locked to one server or one character? If you buy anything, you expect those rewards to be account-wide. Instead, those items become tied to the one character that claims them. So if it was your first character and you then decide you dislike either the class, faction, appearance, or server, congratulations cause you're screwed, the rewards you paid for are stuck there. The subscription is server-locked and that makes no sense to me. If I pay for a monthly subscription, the benefits should follow my account, not just one server...what happens if my friends are somewhere else, or my server fills up, or I want to try the other faction before choosing a main? Too bad. Pay again, apparently. Another thing that makes me whisper to myself, "This would not have happened in Morheim." is the macro-style combat. I understand why macros exist because nobody wants to destroy their hands spamming the same rotation for hours. There is a big ole difference between having shortcuts to letting macros play your game for you. If the best combat comes from holding one button while the macro does your skills in perfectly timed order, where's your mastery? Where's your timing? Where's your decision-making? Where's your excitement and stress? What is the difference between a brilliant player and someone just spamming a button? The original had macros too, but your actual skill mattered more. I don't want combat that feels like I am facerolling my keyboard. You used to weave, react, kite, interrupt, position, manage cooldowns and pots, watch the enemy's skills/movement, be aware and understand what was happening. A good player really stood out for knowing when to burst, where your cooldowns are at, when to interrupt, when to dodge, where to position your class, when to save someone, and when to stop attacking before you get yourself killed. If everyone is just holding a macro button, then there is zero skill. That is not exciting...whatsoever. Macros should support gameplay, not replace it. For the part where I sound a little on the ancient side but correct...is how they are dealing with bots and gold sellers, instead of actually dealing with bots correctly, we get punished. Player trading is not some fancy luxury feature, it's part of what makes an MMORPG feel alive, gives it community. I like being able to hand something to a friend, a rando low level or being able to help a guildie. Being able to participate in the economy really matters to me, because private shops, trade windows, brokers, markets...they're not just a convenience they're a social system, they make the world feel like it belongs to us. With no direct trading, the market controlled and locked behind a membership, the economy access is being treated like it's some kinda premium feature. And they justify it with the same excuse...bots, gold sellers, RMT. They are being lazy, it feels like their solution to bots is to just restrict everyone. If bots are the problem, then ban them, if gold sellers are the problem, then ban them, if buyers are the problem, punish them, if RMT are the problem, track their gold, remove that currency, and ban the accounts involved...simple. Do not take away our freedom and call it a solution. And now here’s where I put my veteran MMO grandma glasses on...is how safe the actual world feels. You know what Aion 2 doesn't have? Danger. Danger is what makes any MMO memorable. Danger makes the world feel alive. This is supposed to be faction war. It is supposed to be the Abyss, rifting, Dredgion-style PvPvE, hard dungeons, sieges, enemy players, revenge, danger, death and community. If someone beat me it's because they flew better, positioned better, timed their skills better, had better teamwork (or a pocket healer), or knew their class. The world had edges...consequences. I feel the mounts come too early in the game, so the world becomes something you just skip over instead of learning. Mobs barely aggro, so they are just decorations with nameplates. If you ran out of flight time, you were probably going to hit the ground and regret every decision that led to that moment...soul sickness was on you. No death to worry about now. And without open-world PvP pressure, something massive is missing. The original Aion was very memorable because anything could happen. You could be questing, gathering, traveling, or heading to a dungeon and suddenly you were ganked. Maybe you ran, maybe you fought, maybe you called it out in chat and half the map showed up. It had danger. It made you aware of your surroundings. They hold your hand through everything, you will probably finish more content, but you will remember less of it. I feel there's a difference between teaching you and carrying you. It feels like they are so terrified of letting you struggle with anything. They point you exactly where you need to go. They tell you exactly what to click. They shower you with rewards just for existing. They rush you through leveling. Just grind Meta. They make it impossible to fail. I feel patronized. Aion 2 may be way prettier. It may be smoother. It may be easier, but easier is not always better. Aion 2 is a no for me.

Honestly, this game would've been a 10/10 mobile game. But it's not, so lets hold it onto proper standards while reviewing it. I'm not going to get into whether the game is p2w or not at all, it is a topic for people who care about it to discuss, I don't. The Good: - The game is breathtaking, the environments, character models, everything look amazing. - Sound design is well done, its not amazing, but you can feel the impact behind most of your actions. - Performance is pretty good for what the game is, especially so considering it is an Unreal Engine 5 game. - Story is suprisingly not terrible, its not really good, but considering this is an MMORPG, this is a suprise. - The questing doesn't go in a loop of "talking to this person then that, then that, then that" over and over until you're mind boggingly bored, but it usually quickly takes you into action rather than constantly having dialogues, which is a big bonus in my eyes. - Exploration is fun, the fact that you can fly around makes you able to explore every nook and cranny of the world, although it seems like being able to get to awkward spots of the map rewards you with nothing as they haven't been hiding anything anywhere like those. The Bad: - Honestly, what were they thinking with the flight mechanic? The game's own design is made completely against playing melee. If you're a melee doing quests for slaying flying monsters, you will come to regret making the decision of playing melee pretty quickly when you have to perch down like a chicken every 2 kills for a whole minute while range classes just pepper them down from the floor. - Collectible items. Why would you put 550 of a collectible item when having 300 of them is enough and the excess 250 you can collect literally gives you something completely meaningless in exchange? I'm a person who can't stop themselves when I see collectible stuff, but I am just being called an idiot by the game itself for doing so. There is no reward whatsoever. - Energy system for dungeons is their way of time gating content unless you pay for it just so that 2% of the playerbase cannot get bored. I genuinely hate this game design and this somehow became a standard for games like these. I will never play a game that has these systems. - Outfits in the cash shop are extremely expensive, and they're using dark patterns of pricing outfits for 2200 and selling 2000 gems etc. - Gears are becoming soulbound the moment you equip them, even the ingame currency you gain from quests become bound the moment you gain them, this means if you have an alt character, almost not a single of the things you've gained in the game can translate into your alt character if you equipped them. - The moment you hit level 45, the game immediately drops all pretense and doesn't even bother explaining a single mechanic to you. You get quests to do something, does the game tell you how or where? Absolutely not, you can stumble upon them if you look through your interfaces, but the game will not tell you. - I love doing lifeskills in the games, and this game probably has the worst version of it in any game I've ever played. Do you want to cook? You can slay monsters for meat for an hour and end up getting like 5 of them, which is enough to cook 5 low level meals. You want to be an armorsmith? Good luck dropping leather, you will have the exact same drop chance of meat, but here's the kicker! You need 3 leather to convert into its processed version, and even the most basic armor you craft needs 3 of those processed ones, so cry about it I guess. - Oh you did lifeskills in one character, got them all to high level and you decided to make another character? Well tough luck because your lifeskill levels are not shared. Why you might ask? For absolutely no logical reason. Overall, this game would be a 6.5/10 if you can look past all of these issues I've listed. Otherwise, it's a 4/10 and you shouldn't waste your money or time with this game just to tell yourself that you're playing an MMO. Because this game is truly a husk of what was once an MMO with an thick layer of makeup over it.
