This game launched with a pretty aggressive grinding model that turned a lot of people, myself included, away from the game. I came back in prep because S3 looked interesting and they've morphed it into an incredibly deterministic farming system that I struggle to believe even exists in a korean game. The menu system is still sloppy, the old ways of getting things still exist and you have to have the ability to sort through those menus, and the timers for crafting are still there to prey on impatience, but the core grinding experience is a complete 180 from what it once was. TFD has found a decent niche at this point, its very much a completionists game, there isn't a ton of content to do still(Pre Season 3), but what it does have is a plethora of characters for you to just build and complete over time if thats your sort of thing. I find the checklist nature of doing things to be insanely satiating if you have that kind of a mindset. Also you get to stare at your ass the entire time you play so thats a plus. The game is decent, the devs have spent the last year turning a 5/10 into a 7.5/10. I think that alone is worth giving it another shot if you're not afraid to put in the bare minimum of effort to figure out what you're doing.

The devs just banned quite a few people for a duration of 15 days (including first time offenders of any kind) for participating in the equivalent of a loot cave bug known as in games like this such as Destiny. Infinite fast respawn of enemies because of their programming error known but not fixed for months. They had a 0.00005% chance to drop one of the new transcendent weapons. This is the correct number of zeroes. Since they are this petty, i will be petty as well; you - dear reader- can decide for yourself if this game worth your time.

The game has an undisclosed kernel level anti-cheat named BlackCipher beyond EAC. Keeping it hidden suggests dishonest practices and as such I cannot recommend installing this game in good faith.

The most insane loot type game there is. I've been playing this game with a friend of mine, and we both started on the launch day. Wanna see how a dev team with a hefty size can make the game that will lose more than 200k players in less than a year? Look no further, because TFD and their clueless devs are right here. -Every single thing in this game is farmed through the tedious "do this one thing 200 times lol" grind -Because of the tedious nature of the grind, you CAN'T play anything but the two meta characters, otherwise you are just wasting your time doing the same missions but 1/2 minutes slower. -70% of the guns are useless -90% of the characters can't even get close to the two meta ones -Bosses are complete pushovers -Store prices are insane, and you will never see discounts of any sorts -Game's "update" that adds "endgame content (lol)" can be cleared by the half dead baboon in less than a week with no problem. And you will need to wait another 2 to 3 months for devs to make yet another "endgame content update (lol)". There is no endgame content, no "chase" uniques and items, no rare things to hunt for, and the latest joke of the update added the melee weapons into the game. You might think, "Wow, what's the point in adding the melee combat into the looter shooter?" Fear not, because TFD devs have no fking clue either. The swords are -Worthless damage wise -INSANELY tedious to grind even by TFD standards (I'm talking about 200-250 runs of the SAME mission depending on your RNG. Each run will take you 4 to 5 minutes on the best meta character in this game) -Have the ammo system. Yes, swords need ammo to work. *Insert the shovel scene from Scary Movie 3 here* -The BP with the new skins costs twice as much as the standard BP, while giving us two half assed skins and nothing else. Devs don't care about anything but skins. This game is updated constantly, but 90% of these updates are new batches of skins and a bunch of QOL. Which is funny af, because at this point this game can play itself no problem, that's how braindead and easy it is. Oh, and I almost forgot to add that these devs are the most spineless people you will ever see in this industry. Not only did they decide to revert a nerf to the most OP and the most braindead character in this game that was outpacing 99.9% of the other characters, but they also APOLOGIZED for it on one of their devstreams. All because some crybaby monkeys decided to review-bomb the game (dropping the rating from the astonishing 50% to the 42%! The horror!). And in the recent reviews these clueless devs said, and I quote, "Well yeah, the best meta character can do anything solo RN, so it means we are not going to buff any supports in this game because they are not needed anymore". I feel awful about the character designers and the people who were responsible for the Bunny, Gley, Nell, and Freyna storylines, because they did a pretty damn good job. I feel nothing but disdain for the rest of the team that works for TFD, including their worthless EN support team that can't even help you with anything. AVOID this dogwater game at any cost.

I wanted to recommend this game, but after what happened, I just can't...The character designs are awesome (warframe with jiggles) and feel unique in their mechanics, but once you get into late game, you quickly realize only a couple of characters are actually worth investing in. Couple that with the constant nerfs I witnessed in just 2-3 weeks of playtime and you realise the devs are looking for some kind of artificial difficulty to forge some reason for player to take longer to complete (honestly speaking) lack of content. Having a small roster and nerfing them constantly doesn't add up. The real reason for the negative review, though, is the support team: - A friend and I were playing this game pretty much every day. In the last two weeks alone, he put over 120 hours into it. We were even talking about spending real money on the game because we were having a good time. he then found out his account was linked to an old email address that no longer exists, contacted support to get it sorted out, and instead of helping, they closed his ticket without fixing anything. Now he's locked out of his account and all that progress is just gone and I still dont understand why he lost access to it only after telling them the e-mail no longer exists... maybe they looked into his expenditure of real money and once they saw he had spent 0 € in 2 weeks, they dicided it was easier to lock him out of the game over that. Seeing that completely killed any interest I had in spending money on this game. If this is how they treat someone who invested over 120 hours in two weeks, why should I believe they'll help me if I ever have an account issue? They'd probably just close my ticket too and pretend nothing happened. I can deal with balance issues. I can deal with a weak roster. What I can't deal with is a support team that acts like players don't matter. If the devs are okay with people losing their accounts because support can't be bothered to actually help, then they don't deserve my money or my recommendation.

Season 4 is an open push to pay for power. Transcendent weapons invalidate most of the hard work players put into Legendary weapons and introduce system that drastically favor key resources being abundant in the shop while being near impossible to get through gameplay. The resource needed to acquire the weapon modification items is extremely hard to get, has disrespectful weekly caps, and require you to pay for increased drop rates of Transcendent weapons. The 3 and 5 respective weekly caps on these modification items means you get one or two rerolls per weapon before having to wait another week for one or two more attempts. Ancestor modules were gambling not gameplay that has worsened the game drastically, Transcendent weapons accelerate the decay of being able to build powerful Descendants without swiping your credit card. Even changes to these systems done rapidly do not put the game on a path that is fun, at this point the studio has gone full gambling over gameplay with the sole intention of milking the few players left. If we wanted to play slot machines for a pay out we would just go to a Casino, because those slot machines have payouts that are actually worth something. TLDR: Game was borderline pay to progress before, now pay for power is what Season 4 is trying to normalize and it only gets worse from here. Do not waste your time or money on this game as it clearly no longer has a future.

The average human life lasts roughly seventy to eighty years, which when translated into hours becomes a number large enough to make people feel comfortable wasting some of it on hobbies, relaxation, and games, yet somehow The First Descendant manages to take that enormous block of time and convert it into a slow mechanical ritual where the player repeatedly eliminates the same groups of enemies across the same arenas not for excitement or discovery but for microscopic fragments of materials that trickle into your inventory with the generosity of a leaking faucet, because the real objective of the game is not fighting enemies but fighting the calendar itself, as every weapon, character, or meaningful piece of equipment exists behind a chain of grinding so long that it begins to resemble a part time occupation, forcing you to collect components for hours, sometimes days, only to reach the next stage where the game politely informs you that you may now wait additional hours while the item is “researching,” transforming what should be a fast paced action experience into a bizarre factory simulator where your reward for grinding is the privilege of waiting even longer, and somewhere in the background sits the quiet alternative offered by the store page, glowing softly like a neon shortcut, gently suggesting that all of this suffering could disappear instantly if you were simply willing to exchange a small mountain of real money to unlock the same weapons, the same descendants, the same equipment that the game otherwise expects you to farm for what feels like a thousand hours of repetitive missions, turning the entire experience into a strange ultimatum where you either surrender vast portions of your free time to the endless cycle of farming identical enemies for microscopic rewards or open your wallet and skip the torture entirely, and to complete the performance the cosmetic system stands nearby like a final insult, offering the choice between walking around the battlefield dressed like a factory default mannequin or paying sums of money large enough to fund a modest grocery trip simply to look like one of the characters displayed in the promotional trailers, creating a situation where the game technically contains exciting weapons, powerful descendants, and impressive gear but hides them behind a wall of grinding so tall that by the time you finally reach the point where the game becomes genuinely enjoyable you have already sacrificed a measurable percentage of your actual lifespan just to get there.

After 2,000 hours of gameplay, here’s my honest review of The First Descendant: (im also a day 1 player) The game started off with a lot of potential. It was genuinely "challenging" I mean you actually had to think, not just run and shoot. That level of difficulty was what made it fun. Beating bosses that were tough felt rewarding. Using the wrong strategy in team play could get you squad wiped, Frustrating but rewarding when you defeat them. But not all players appreciated that, and unfortunately, the devs listened to the wrong feedback. What used to be a challenging, thoughtful experience is now so watered down that even low level gears can breeze through it. What once felt like solving a satisfying jigsaw puzzle has been reduced to the equivalent of matching shapes in a baby’s toy — mindless and insultingly simple. Severe inconsistency — in gears, modules, and damage output. If you play a skill-power character, you might not even notice it. Those builds are usually just “press a few buttons and aim close enough.” But gun builds are a different story. They require more planning, grinding, and fine-tuning to get the right stats for solid damage output. That’s what made them fun — they were more complex but thats what made it engaging to build a character you invest on. But because of the game’s inconsistencies, it feels like some modules or damage effects don’t even trigger correctly. example to this is MP collector , we know its 17% chance but killing a group of enemies like 10 enemies in one shot SHOULD get you a greater chance to recover MP but sometimes it doesnt work at all (it works on common maps like axion plain but not on purge maps for some reason) another is the Ammo recovery for serena , and MyGOD its frustrating when you cant recover after defeating multiple groups of enemies in purge then you suddenly get twice the amount of recovered ammo randomly with no enemies at all. you'll find it more likely to just fly dash around 2 to 3 times before you can even recover an amount of ammo. another example, doing a boss run with a skill character often gives you consistent clear times — simple, spammy, and reliable. But with a gun build, even if you run the exact same setup and hit all your shots, your time can vary wildly. One run takes 20 seconds, the next takes 50+ seconds, with no clear reason why. (And NO it’s not my aim, i checked every video recordings i've made and analyze it , i've checked the videos with the short clear time to the videos with longer clears. and those with longer clear times have better shots than the short clear time and what i noticed on those videos is that if you use low end hardware for this my laptop which runs only a i5 and 2050 . you will notice a very delayed gun hit even after defeating bosses , but for my pc which has ryzen 7 5700x and a gtx 1060 , its fine for some reason. Then there’s performance. Optimization is bad — severe, even. Updates roll out, but they often don’t fix much. And yes, it’s running on UE5, but the way this game is structured, it clearly favors players with higher-end hardware. Frame drops, stutters, and overall poor performance really hurts the experience. At this point, the game just isn’t fun anymore unlike day 1. It’s basically a GOONING skin collection. That’s all it has going for it now — cosmetic bait. No meaningful content, no engaging endgame, and fewer players every week. It was fun, but not anymore. Repeatable gameplay, little content, major inconsistencies, and constant performance issues. That’s the current state of The First Descendant.

I wanted to give this game a chance, and after spending 230 hours on PC (and over 100 hours on PS5) I feel like I have a really good idea of where this game is going. TL;DR - Don't waste your time. The developers do not know how to balance the game to be engaging. The only thing they have a talent for is cosmetics, which will cost you at least $15 per outfit. The base cosmetics aren't necessarily bad, but the game itself is. The developers keep releasing new descendants in a completely overpowered state, to the extent that it trivializes the content. They've made promises to avoid this in the future, but the game just doesn't deliver anything worth investing your time in. What it offers: Grind. You can spend time repeating the same actions to collect things for a chance to get a good bonus; rinse and repeat. If that's what you want, more power to you, but even if you want a game that's going to suck time from your life in exchange for a vague hope of getting something worthwhile, there are better games for you. What it lacks: Meaningful content. Game balance. A player base large enough to fill public groups, let alone match you with players that won't just AFK hoping you'll clear the content solo. The game doesn't even feel like it's paced well, you end up in areas that were clearly meant to be reached after grinding to power up a descendant you like. It also lacks game balance; I know I mentioned this before, but with the variety of descendants to choose from, there are only a few you should use if you want to clear through the content. If you decide to play on hard mode and use a descendant that isn't overpowered, you won't get the fun, engaging experience you were hoping for, because there isn't anyone else that plays like that. You'll group publicly with overpowered descendants that make you feel worthless, or worse, you'll group with descendants that have no right trying to play the content they queued for and are hoping you're overpowered and going to clear it solo. I wasted *over 300 hours on this game. Don't make the same mistake. *edited for accuracy; previously written as nearly 400 hours

Banning people for using a loot cave that has been in the game for MONTHS! Do not play this game the Devs are terrible and are now making the game into a giant cash grab before inevitably coming out and saying they will no longer be supporting the game once they get enough money!

This game used to be fun to play, but it continues to get worse with each update. It feels like they care more about extracting money from the player instead of making a fun and engaging game. The balance of the game feels terrible, as it feels like only the meta characters and weapons are viable for end game content unless you want the mission to take 30+ mins. Each update makes the game more repetitive, and the enemies become even more of a sponge making the missions drag on longer and the grind more tedious. I cannot recommend this game in its current state.

I played the beta when it first came out. I couldn't wait to play it. The devs gave us a bunch of skins for participating and helping them work out the kinks. Then when the game launched, they took them back from us and sold them on the market. way to thank the people that helped you fix your game devs. I played for a bit more then uninstalled it once I saw they had all the other characters locked behind a pay wall and pay to win players 1 shotting everything.

An ok game... the biggest issue I have is the monetisation, the in game currency is ridiculously expensive for those of us belonging to the African continent. They'd make a killing if they adjusted for certain regions, I can't justify exchanging a week's worth of groceries for bouncing pixels.

It's Warframe, but with more microtransactions and more micromanagment. I could tell just from the first hour of playing that this is nothing special or unique. You are expected to put an ungodly amount of time in farming in order to keep up. You will be tricked into thinking that you will have fun, but in reality, you're chasing the idea of having fun. Games like these are bottomless pits for yout lifetime to fall into. If you value your time, stay away from it and others like it.

Do you like getting banned from games? Do you like getting punished for finding the most efficient methods to cut through month long grinds? Do you enjoy being penalized for the negligence of those that made and maintain the game? If you answered yes to any of the previous questions, then The First Descendant is a great game for you! If you farm too quickly or too efficiently, kiss your progress and even your account goodbye!

There are a lot of great things about the game, but unfortunately too many terrible choices drag the game down so hard. Extremely greedy monetization such as the colaboration skins. $80 for all the Nier Automata skins, $35 for the Bayonetta skins, Full battle pass price for a tiny little sword pass that was only around for around a month or two with a quarter of the items in a normal pass. A poor obsession with making all new content harder and enemies more spongier than the last content make the game continually less fun and makes more of the characters less viable. An extreme amount of farming for materials to absurd degrees. Doing anything in the Axion Plains made me groan as you had to complete a mission to get a small chance at receiving a box that had a small chance at containing the item you needed. The newest update includes a mission that only gives you around 5-10 of a mat that's needed for the new Descendant and gun. However, you will need a grand total of 1050 of this material for the character and for a fully ascended gun, meaning you'd need to run the mission over 100 times to get everything you needed. This ISN'T an issue of it being a farming game. This IS an issue of not balancing drops. It being a farming game doesn't mean that its quality because we got more than 0 mats per run. Farming in Warframe feels like a minute jog in comparison to this game. If you're thinking about trying it, DON'T. In it's current state, it's not worth it.

If you look at the number of hours I have in this game, then you may think that it's great but if I told you over 300 of those hours was just mindlessly grinding the same missions on repeat in my peripheral vision with no real engagement then the game becomes a lot less inviting. This is how I see it. The game is free so if you play it for a week or two then there's nothing to complain about. However, once you play for a bit longer, the cracks start to show and any fun you were having slowly begins to fade. This is mostly the result of the limited content available and the developers recycling old areas and tile sets for new missions. The game is designed specifically to have the player run through the same missions over and over again for random drops. Sometimes you'll be replaying missions close to a hundred times if you get bad luck. This encourages the player to seek out the most broken and overpowered builds to make the missions go by as quickly as possible. This isn't necessarily a problem but those specific builds suck all engagement out of the combat. You might say it's the players fault for relying on these strategies but that argument doesn't hold water once you realize that your squad mates will almost definitely be using them as well. I had a realization while playing through a mission with a full team of Bunny's using the (at the time) best builds. I was casually running from the start to the end, unable to keep up with my teammates, never using any of my abilities, and never firing any of my weapons all while collecting enemy drops. It was then that I realized I wasn't playing a looter shooter, I was playing the worlds worst racing game and I just placed last. The absurdity was hilarious to me and I was audibly laughing to myself. My most controversial opinion is that the game does't really have it's own identity. It just feels like an amalgamation of it's contemporaries. It haphazardly takes game elements and story beats from Destiny, Warframe, Nier, Nioh, and other RPGs and MMOs at random. Take the weapon drops for example. In Destiny, engram drops were an exciting thing for the player because they new they could instantly get practically any weapon in the game. This extended all the way up to the highest rarity of weapons and armor giving the game a solid cohesion overall. In Warframe, all weapons were precisely acquired by the player in parts making them feel like they were rediscovering extinct technology from a past era. Both games make sense in game and thematically. The First Descendant amalgamates both systems meaninglessly doing a worse job overall. Weapons of Purple and lower rarity drop like engrams and are worthless because you can use gold for every slot making the process of looting pointless mid-game. As a result, most Gold rarity guns feel no more unique than lower rarity weapons for balancing purposes. Destiny already figured this out by making the player only able to equip one exotic weapon at a time. Because of this, the exotic weapons in Destiny feel much more unique and powerful. Now take the "relic" drops as anther example. Individual parts of weapons and descendants only drop from a small number of unique missions meaning the player will be repeating the same story missions over and over with no change. It gets extremely frustrating hearing the same mission dialogue on repeat in your ear every few minutes or so. In Warframe, practically no relic was exclusive to any specific mission. If you got tired of a specific mission type, you could always change to a different one on a different planet with different enemies. While you were farming those relics, you were also getting relics from a large pool of other available weapons and Warframes meaning if you ever found yourself wanting something different, you probably unknowingly already had a stockpile of those relics in your inventory. Not only that but relic rewards were shared between parties cutting down on the grind and making it so you could get an extremely rare item at any point on any public mission. This fostered community and cooperation in the player base. The First Descendants is designed from the ground up to make the player spend as much time acquiring new gear as possible in an extremely tedious way just so they will be more likely to purchase the items instead. If your counter argument is that it has to be that way for the games economy to work then I guess you right. The game is tedious and boring on purpose. Something even more disappointing to me is the game will often conveniently ignore aspects of itself just to fit a narrative that the developers feel like telling in that moment. I couldn't help but roll my eyes during Freyna's story mission listening to her talk about being a nameless, emotionless, faceless, gender-less assassin all while having a name, an identity, a recognizable face, and dressing in sexualized, distinctly feminine clothing. There are so many examples of this that I can't help but feel like the developers think their player base is either stupid or doesn't have any form of critical thinking. The dissonance is jarring and shockingly common unfortunately. Speaking of over sexualization, I'm not one of those people who will decry a game for fan-service. It undoubtedly has its place in most forms of media and I accept that, I just want the fan-service to be in addition to an already good game but to me it feels more like fan-service was the focus and everything else was superfluous. I find it pathetic personally but if that's your thing then...hey...no hard feelings here. I won't judge you if you don't judge me. I haven't mentioned the games more pronounced issues mainly because everyone else already has thousands of times. As a whole, the games unfocused. This would have probably be a positive review if I stopped at the 25 hour mark but I didn't. It's fun for a time but once the charm wears off it gets old and the problems become much more pronounced.

Ultimate Bunny a̶s̶s will carry the game's financial success. Warframe-equivalent mechanics: - Upgrades/modding card system (mod slots, polarities, mod drain, forma, orokin reactors) - Upgrading mod cards and dissolving them for upgrade resources - Elemental and physical weaknesses - Mastery rank/weapon proficiency - Defense missions (down to similar UI) - Third person perspective - Character abilities and mana/energy - Level 30/40 character cap - Character switching and ultimate/prime counterparts - Relic/Anomalous loot system - Universal double jump and ripline/grappling hook - Simulacrum firing range - Long crafting times (dozens of real-life hours) and sub-parts to craft new characters Destiny-equivalent mechanics: - Exotic weapons with unique perks (the first one you get is literally just Riskrunner) - Power level/light level grind for gear specifically - Gear level infusion - Armor/modules and weapon loadouts - Weapon ammo types and ammo scarcity - Instanced dungeons/void intercepts - Open zone activities/patrols - Open zone fast travel - Nearly identical weapon archetypes (scout rifle, pulse rifle, hand cannon, sniper, shotgun, trace rifle, sidearm, etc.) Pros: -The game is FREE and as of the current state, you can farm everything in the game without spending a dime other than skins -The grappling feature of the game provides a fresh take to the looter shooter genre and can create many different play styles. You can grapple onto walls to fly around, grapple to an enemy and melee for a free knock down effect, you can grapple onto a boss's armor pieces to tear it down, etc. -Variety of activities to do: different types of missions, ops, surviving waves of monsters, bossing (colossus), vault hunting, etc. -There are a total of 14 descendants (or playable characters) in the game albeit you gota farm for most of them. This game gives you 3 free characters through natural progression. Each character is quite unique and surely there will be someone who your preferred play style matches. With more characters coming on the way - Mod System : This is a great feature similar to "traits" or "passives" in other games. It provides different builds that fit your playstyle. You can easily spend hours strategizing what the best mods are, farming those mods, and using them for boss fights. -Boobas and peaches. Nuff said Cons: -The game is free as said above BUT if you do want to pay, it is extremely expensive compared to other games (its Nexon go figure) -Quality of Life: As this is a new game, it comes with flaws in QoL. For example, the "Access Info" section is really great for locating and planing what to farm and grind BUT they do not make that well known unless you are poking around each tab in the menu. -Story was meh at best and the voice actors were really not that great. It did change dramatically when I changed the voice to Korean (think of it as sub vs dub for anime).
