This is a conditional recommendation. I recommend the game if: 1 - It is 50% off. No matter what, it is not worth full price. 2 - If you have played the original Oblivion. If you are like myself and spent thousands of hours with the original, it will be a fun stroll through memory lane. Standing near the swamps at night and seeing Masser and Secunda slowly drifting through the skies in 4K and HDR is undoubtedly a vibe. More thn the new textures, I think the new lighting improves immensely over the original experience. 3 - You have a good enough rig to play this with most new lighting and textures at High or above while maintaining a solid 60+ FPS. Do your research, this is not a well-optimized game as I write this (end of 2025). It fixes some original bugs while introducing another, which can lead to some friction.} If you check on 3 of the conditions above, this is an easy recommendation. When it works well and if you have the nostalgia memories to contrast to what's being given here, it is a great time. If not, think a bit more about it, you can find better games for the same price elsewhere on Steam.

I'll go ahead and give this game a negative review, too. Did I enjoy it overall? Yeah. It made some decent improvements to the game, and a lot of frankly unnecessary ones, too. But I cannot recommend this game due to the bugs that are still in this game after release. Bethesda/Virtuous released this game with more bugs than the original, and they have not solved a majority of them over a year after the release. It's completely embarrassing, and another mark on Bethesda's permanent record. Save yourself the money and go buy something by a developer that deserves your support.

Abandonware. Bethesda / Virtuos slopped this on the storefronts, released two small patches that fixed hard gamebreaking bugs and then left the game in a completely unreasonable state with very harsh frame drops, many bugs and glitches and accelerating degrading performance the longer you play / the older your save file becomes. Do yourself a favour and DO NOT BUY this game and DO NOT BUY whichever remaster they release next.

Помню как в 2006 году играл в этот шедевр, с лагами и без русской локализации... И вот, спустя 19 лет, я играю в ремастер этого шедевра, с лагами и без русской локализации... Спасибо Тодд! Ненадолго ты вернул меня в детство

I'm trying my hardest to fully complete this game, but with the amount of stuttering and shader compilation B.S., It's not looking too good. This is one of the worst performing games I have ever played both visually, and technically. Never out of all my time on PC have I had to download a library full of fixes for a game because the developers refuse to do anything to help it run better and it STILL not being enough. The funniest part about all this is that apparently it's Steam Deck Verified, which I have no idea how that is even possible in the slightest. If it struggles on decent and even good systems, how in the hell can it POSSIBLY be verified? Maybe with 6x framegen scaling from sub-10fps to get 60fps. Don't even get me started how they somehow managed to raise the file size needed by almost 22x! The original oblivion is not even 6gb and this one is almost 120GB.... unreal (literally). All I'm going to say is that if Bethesda's idea of a remaster is to bloat the file size and remove and change things for the worst and to make sure it's in an absolutely unplayable state even a year after release, I'd tell them to keep TES6, I don't want it.

Just optimize it please. Can't even play it well with the lowest settings and frame generation on. Actually started playing the original one cause it just runs better. :( ( I also tried playing it at 720p or less and I get around 60fps which to me is just barely enough )

I've done so many playthroughs on the original and I was really enjoying the remaster. Problem is there is a memory leak. After 30ish hours my save slows down to a crawl. Loading between cells takes over two minutes and combat is unbearable. I'd really like to recommend this game, but I can't.

It's december and this ♥♥♥♥♥ is still unplayable without various performance fixes from the modding community, and with those too, is still a hot mess.

Играется абсолютно так же, как и в старый добрый Обливион, но с улучшенной картинкой. Они решили сохранить базовые механики оригинальной игры.

It's despicable that this game is verified on the Steamdeck. It's on the verge of unplayable with the awful frame rate, even with settings turned to minimal. It was a waste of $48. I can't even play it.

Devs released a patch last year shortly after launch that killed the modding community and then abandoned the game entirely. I decided to wait a while and came back to it a year later expecting a better experience only to find out there hadn't been a patch since the one that broke most mods. which was literally like the second patch. If they'd at least kept up with the game even without fixing the issues that broke mods, I could live with that. But it's been a year since last patch. It's literal abandonware. With a game that literally uses TWO engines, that's impossible to reconcile. Oblivon was buggy enough. Frankensteining it with Unreal Engine 5 was ambitious and insane and the devs gave up instantly. And to make matter worse, they didn't even provide modding tools so modders can't even fix it. Really heartbreaking for a nostalgic game that I was so excited to play with better graphics and now it's way too late to even get my money back. Steam should offer refunds for abandonware, this is absurd. I've been gaming over 20 years and this is the worst experience I've ever had with a game. It's stunning what they've done, honestly. The devs literally just took our money and ran. Very upsetting. If games were released fully completed and functional these days, patches wouldn't be needed but studios don't release full games anymore and we just have to trust them to continue working on it AFTER we buy it. And this is the result of that system. People bought a game at full-price with the expectation it would be maintained and instead the devs broke that social contract and scammed us. They really could've just released a fully completed game if they didn't want to keep up with it but those days are over. I'll think twice, thrice even, before buying a game at or close to launch now. Apparently I need to wait a year to make sure it's being maintained.

Bugthesda pumps and dumps again. No point in buying anything from them anymore. They shovel everything out broken and already old at launch. Their remasters as worse than amateur. So sad.

I need to preface this review by saying that I love this game. I love this world that Bethesda has created. But everything that you've read about the poor performance is true. After reaching a certain point, the performance absolutely falls off a cliff. It stutters, it lags, and becomes genuinely unplayable. It doesn't matter what kind of hardware you're running. It's a problem with the game itself. What's more concerning is that the game has been in this state for more than a year and they've done absolutely nothing to remedy it. There are no updates or patches in sight, and we've barely received an acknowledgement of the issue. Worse yet--they're re-releasing it on other platforms. It feels borderline unethical.

Loved the original, so even with the bad optimization warnings, I figured "how bad could it really be?" Turns out, pretty awful. Around the 20 hour mark, performance completely falls off a cliff. The memory leaks are brutal, forcing me to constantly restart the game just to clear them and keep it playable. The Z2 Extreme should handle this with zero issues, but bad optimization ruins the whole experience. Nostalgia isn't worth having to reboot every hour…skip it until they actually patch it.

The fact that this game sits at a "Mostly Positive" review score with a €60 price-tag proves that consumers are willing to gulp up the most abominable slob and pay a premium. This is a warning to anyone reading to be very wary of your consumer mentality - especially in a world where the "standard" is continously degrading (Not just for video-games) - Perfomance: is a disaster. Constant stuttering. Only with optimization mods made by the community is this even slightly playable. Even then, the outdoors exploration does not run well. - Bugs: You gotta say they stayed true to the original in some aspects (for worse), because Oblivion Remastered comes packaged with many of the very same old bugs from the original (Ex. "Tall Camera Bug"), which have been known bugs all these years. - Misc.: Graphically this game looks great (Mostly), however it does not preserve the amazing colorpalette that made the original stand out. One of the only improvements besides that is the level-up system allowing for more choice, but you now level up way too fast. If I didn't get this review-copy I would never have played this remaster. Even if the game was optimizied and the price-tag was €10 it would take a lot of consideration. The only reason why this game is any fun at all (When it doesn't crash or stutter 24/7), is because it's a opportunity to re-play Oblivion, & the modding community improves it. They could have made such a amazing stand-alone remaster if they wanted - though it could never justify the current price. I'm not looking forward to Elder Scrolls VI at this point. Only looking forward to the fan-made "Skyblivion". At least that is a passion project - which there's clearly none of at Bethesda.
