A Revolutionary Classic I don't know what to say, such an insane game. Really revolutionary. It's already been acknowledged as a masterpiece and I agree, so I'll keep this very short. A Timeless Classic It's my first time playing this game and the details in this game are still mind-blowing. You almost never see this level of attention to detail unless you are playing a Rockstar game. It is the Red Dead Redemption 2 of its time, and like RDR2, MGS3 is a much better experience than almost all new releases today. Gameplay, Story and Presentation The gameplay is insane. The story is goofy and unserious at times, but it hits you hard at the end with its presentation and story twists. Snake Eater Theme is phenomenal. Technical Issues It is very poorly optimized. A 60 FPS cap plus a 20-year-old game taking up 120 GB for whatever reason is nonsense and a lazy job. Final Thoughts I think Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater is the second best work of Kojima, after DEATH STRANDING. GOLDEN MEDAL Follow my Curator Page For More Reviews ⚜️

It pains me to rate this negatively since you'll all see I poured in a good amount of time playing the game in both Normal and Legacy modes but I need to. Since it's a faithful remake, there's nothing else I can praise on the core gameplay that hasn't been said before in the past 20 years. The QOL improvements and graphics is something I can praise currently, even including the Snake vs Monkey mode. In my eyes, MGS3 was perfection. However I still have to not recommend this for now since it's still a badly optimized game and priced absurdly. The UE5 choice was bad enough but not expanding on the graphics option was very questionable. Even gamers with good rigs still have problems running this game, so much that modders came to the rescue again just to deliver a stable experience. The time and effort on implementing Fox Hunt, which is essentially a dead online mode now could've gone more to optimization. Really disappointing. As much as I love MGS3, I cannot in good faith recommend a game that relies so much on outside configurations and fixes just to work properly.

The frame-rate and graphics problems still persist many months after release. Cannot recommend until Konami decides to value my dollar.

Nearly two months after release, there's still a gamebreaking bug of the game freezing hard if you tranquilize enemies during the jungle escape/escort part just before the final boss battle. My first two attempts ended with my needing to terminate the process via task manager after firing tranq shots at the pursuers. A quick Google search revealed it has been a fairly consistent issue for some users. It's a shame because the overall remake is terrific. Outside of just the obvious new models, textures, and lighting, there's been lots of work done to facial animations, sound mixing, gameplay movement animations, etc. There are some minor problems with the revised graphics, like the focal point being wrong in some cutscene shots (the focus being on the wrong thing or on nothing at all), but they're fairly minor. Secret Theater has made a comeback after its removal from the HD, Legacy and Master Collection releases, but now it sadly takes much more effort to unlock its contents. The multiplayer mode from the Subsistence edition is set to return in a future update, too. I have little to no interest in playing it, but I appreciate the effort of its resurrection after the disappearance it shared with Secret Theater. EDIT: Apparently, it's not the multiplayer from Subsistence but rather some new MP mode.

Let me be clear. This is a masterpiece of a game wrapped in a frustratingly unoptimized package, and that's exactly why I can't recommend it in good conscience. The remake itself is stunning. The jungle environments are gorgeous, the stealth gameplay holds up beautifully, and the story remains one of gaming's greatest. Seeing Snake Eater rebuilt from the ground up is genuinely emotional for longtime fans. But here's the reality: I had to dig into ini files just to get the game running decently. Manual ini tweaks, forced frame generation through config edits, Balanced upscaling mode, and AMD Super Resolution scaling from 1080p to 1440p, all just to chase a stable frame rate. That's not acceptable for a mainstream release. Even after all that, certain areas still stutter noticeably. The opening swim sequence with the alligators and the Shagohod battle both have performance hiccups that break immersion at the worst possible moments. This is becoming an all-too-familiar story with Unreal Engine 5 titles. Beautiful games shipped with lazy optimization that punishes players who don't know how to dig under the hood. Most people won't. They'll just suffer through it or refund it. Wait for patches. Wait for a sale. But don't buy this at full price expecting it to run well out of the box. Fun, unfortunately it looks terrible because of UE5 refusing to do actual native rendering. TSR Native looks like a smeary mess, FSR/DLSS looks fuzzy. UE5 sucks stop using it. The rain ALWAYS looks terrible in it, Oblivion remastered has the same issue. Edit: to trolls whining about it, I'd rather have the original PS2 graphics than some ♥♥♥♥♥♥ upscaler/temporal AA making every scene with rain look a frozen internet explorer window.

Yes, the story is incredible, but the horrible performance, visuals that don’t match the gameplay, and the extremely high price really hold it back.

An improvement in some instances but a downgrade in others... Pros: - Cool new graphics. - Camos can be equipped using the d-pad instead of pausing the game - Improved Gun-handling - Very faithful to the original story wise - Original voice cast - They bought back Cynthia Harrell to sing a new version of snake eater and it’s REALLY GOOD. She’s still got it. - Clearer audio (easier to hear voices over other noises) Cons: - Expensive $116-131 AUD. - Noticeable audio clipping in some cutscenes. - Some sound effects are way too quiet like knocking on wall surfaces. - Martial arts system is slower for some reason? Snake's 3 hit combo isn't as fast as in the OG snake eater. - Cover system is clunkier and frequently results in accidentally being seen because you don't snap to it as quickly as you do in the original. - Sight-lines are inconsistent, sometimes guards see you too easily to the point where it feels like the game isn't fair, other times they are really stupid. - Movement has a weird amount of delay which makes turning around really annoying. - CQC is based on orientation and due to the weird delay in movement, facing the correct direction to perform CQC during combat is inconsistent and annoying. - Holding people up with a gun has an inconsistent trigger so you have to spam aiming the gun at someones back to get the holdup to trigger correctly which is really frustrating. - In the cure screen, you have to re-select/scroll to the same item you previously had selected for each wound rather than keeping an item selected and applying it to each wound. This is really annoying if you have a bunch of leeches or any other specific injury that doesn’t require disinfectant. The disinfectant is always re-selected whenever you look at a different wound. In the original you could select one cure item, apply it to all the wounds then change items. - Difficulty hasn't been increased enough to compensate for snake having advanced gun-handling ability being able to headshot a bunch of people and move around at the same time. (Yes even on extreme difficulty) - AI are less aggressive than the original and play way more cautiously. - Performance is pretty bad and there is a lack of configuration options to alleviate this. No option to make foliage less dense or lower shadow res (you just turn them off entirely), or decrease res of particle effects. Low preset completely destroys the art style making the image look really washed out. Makes this release much less accessible for anyone running older or non-recent hardware. (This is a criticism of desktop performance, not just steam deck performance) Nitpicks (subjective things not everyone will care about, and that’s okay): - Snake's CQC feels a little too aggressive in this game, he strikes like Batman whereas his strike style felt more controlled in the original. - Some of the faces look a little too different for my liking. - Some areas like the cave after the ocelot fight are too bright which makes the torch and cigarettes useless. - Choice to use realistic graphics instead of opting for a stylised look decreases the ability for the audience to suspend their disbelief - While this is subjective, removing the colours of the original game and opting for more 'realistic' lighting greatly detracts from the emotional impact of many of the cutscenes and the general vibe of many areas. It makes them much less visually interesting to look at. I am aware that there is a 'legacy' filter but even this filter didn't do justice to the cool and warm tones of the original game in my opinion. Conclusion: Cool remix of sorts, definitely not a definitive replacement for the original which still holds up really well today. I'd still recommend the original game over this.

MGS3: Snake Eater was probably the game I replayed the most when all I had in my youth was free time and a PS2. The remake preserves the oozing style of the original while having gorgeous graphics that make the original story only more of a spectacle to remember. There's a ton of nods to the crowd who played the original without being intrusive or leaving new players in the dark. I am biased. I truly do think that this game's narrative, while having Kojima's various, """quirks""", is rewarding and a roller coaster in all aspects. I played through the game primarily with the new updated 'action combat' approach. I think this was a great try at the game breaking through to a new generation of gamers, but there's some polish/consideration that could be done in regards to some of the boss fights obviously designed around larger third person view like the original. Despite this, I mainly only have praise for this game. This being said, however... Never pay full price for a Konami title. If its on sale, I think its worth it. If its not on sale, avoid.

This game with substandard 9th gen graphics runs terribly on above standard 9th gen hardware. While I'm personally insulated by my setup, there's no shot the recommended 10 GB 3080 is maintaining a steady 60fps at even Quality 2k and zero chance the minimum specs will result in anything but a 2060 Super shaped hole melted through your desk. And if the Oblivion Remaster's status as abandonware is any indication, the game will stay this way. It plays exactly the same. There is no attempt to reimagine the original gameplay through a modern lens or adapt it to the present day in a way that introduces any meaningful updates. For certain fans, this is a good thing, and the familiar refrain of “remaining faithful” clearly preys on them, conveniently insulating Konami from any real expectation to innovate, take risks, or show creative intent. No one was asking for something on the scale of Final Fantasy VII: Remake/Rebirth, but it was reasonable to expect more than another asset churn hastily dropped into Virtuos' fragile dual-engine UE wrapper that strains to barely function. Visually, it has its money shots and competently redesigned characters, but overall it's painfully bland-looking, even with the Legacy LUT enabled. In some cases, there are even objective visual downgrades, such as the offensive removal of the steam coming off Sokolov's pants when he pisses himself. That alone takes this down to a 3/10 for me. Seriously, though. There is no reason to get this over the Master Collection MGS3. People throw around "it holds up" all the time, but that game seriously still holds up. Your mind will be blown by the fact that it came out in '04. You'll get the same gameplay experience with the added benefit of appreciating a piece of art as presented by its creator, instead of a soulless rehash riding the coattails of its legacy.

Even after going through the effort of implementing two of the most recommended community fixes, the game barely scratches 60 FPS on average. If they had stuck with the original FOX Engine from MGSV, the game still would have received a massive graphical upgrade compared to its original 2004 release—and it would have run so much better than this. Unless they go back, optimize the engine, and lower the hardware requirements (which I highly doubt they ever will), I cannot recommend purchasing this, even on sale—and even if you have a 40-series card.

Refunded. DOES NOT Support super ultra wide or ultra wide resolutions. This is absolutely shameful for a AAA-priced game. A studio like Konami has the budget and know-how, there is zero reason for that.

I've been an Metal Gear fan since I was a kid. For reference, I'm in my late 30s. Ive been looking forward to this remake since they announced it and was excited to revisit this game with updated gameplay. Some of the new features are pretty nice, like changing camouflage without entering the menu and having a 3rd person camera. These are revolutionary changes to the original gameplay. However, that's about where the improvemetns end. Yes, the graphics are nicer, but thats to be expected with a remaster. What gets me is how the controls are still largely the same clunky controls they were before don't get me wrong, when this game came out in 2004, it was revolutionary, but it's been 20 years and game play has changed substantially. I'd love to see more updated controls and better voice syncing now that the graphics are so good you can tell that they're not fully synched. I love this story and this game, and while this is a faithful remaster, it does not improve in the areas I was hoping for the most. For $70, this isn't worth it. Wait until it's on sale. 6.5/10

I don't think this is necessarily a terrible remake. The options to allow for legacy filters and controls is pretty unheard of for most remakes. The models and the newly mocapped cutscenes are really good but that's about it for the positives. If you are on a PC with anything less than an RTX 4070 in terms of performance you should not even bother. The general performance level is abysmal as my fairly powerful rig cannot run this game at a locked 60fps at native 1440p with high shadows/global illumination. Any sort of scenes with lots of reflections or special effects the game just chugs. Not only this, the game looks very scalable from the graphics settings but the performance you gain from turning off everything is minimal while also making the game look awful. You also have the usual UE5 garbage with how depth of field looks awful and reflections are really bad below the epic setting. In terms of what the remake brings to the table, it's extremely safe and faithful to the material but it doesn't really provide a different experience from the original outside of the modern control scheme which already makes a fairly easy game even easier. I don't think safe remakes are really worth the asking price tag of $70. If you have a high end PC and you bought the remake bundled with Master Collection Vol. 1 which makes this a really cheap game to buy, then sure it's fine from a replay standpoint. If you're a newcomer to the franchise I can't really recommend this game at all and I'd advise you to play Master Collection Vol 1. in release order of the games instead. The original Snake Eater aged wonderfully and is one of the greatest stealth games of all time that I've personally enjoyed on my Steam Deck.

Out of nowhere, Konami took it upon themselves the Herculean task of recreating one of the greatest games ever made. And as catastrophic as the range of possibilities may look, incredibly, they succeeded. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a borderline perfect remake of a borderline perfect game. And it is precisely so because of the incredible level of respect displayed by Konami and the ex-KJP members. It doesn't try to reinvent the wheel, it doesn't try to "modernize" or adapt the story for "modern audiences," it doesn't dumb down the experience. Delta is unapologetically just "MGS3 if it were released in 2025". Metal Gear Solid was always about unlimited freedom inside a linear framework. It's a "linear" game that offers you complete control of your approach to the current situation. There's always more than one way of completing the task at hand, and the game rewards you for unhinged creativity like no other game ever did. With all of the new zones compared to its predecessors (we went from base infiltrations to wild forests and jungles!), MGS3 tunes this design philosophy up to eleven, with all kinds of different approaches to different situations. Need to get past a guard? You can tranquilize him, you can kill him. You can sneak around undetected, you can knock on a wall to emit distracting noises. You can shoot a fruit from a tree and infiltrate while the guard is distracted. You can shoot the closest hornet hive and laugh as they rush him down. You can even toss him a live poisonous snake you captured earlier (and it'll poison him!). You can disguise yourself as a scientist, or as a maintenance crew member, or as a high-ranking general. You can even wear a USSR uniform, and he'll think twice before shooting his own colors! You can throw him an empty magazine, or sneak around with a cardboard box. You can blow up his food warehouses to make him starve, then throw him food to lure him in. Poisonous food, too! Or even rotten food you forgot in your backpack for days! You can call Soviet HQ and order an airstrike to pulverize the poor guard. Don't forget the adult magazines, either! And finally, you can just unequip your camouflage, equip a heavy machine gun and go in guns blazing, Rambo style. The possibilities are endless, and it's up to you as a player to express yourself the way you want to. In the modern day and age, without the original team and director, Konami could never replicate this level of greatness, and apparently they know it. How do you remake something that's already perfect? So they took the safe, and correct approach, which is to not change it. Just modernize it. Give it gorgeous UE5 graphics with Nanite geometry and Lumen lighting, which, to be frank, are clearly rushed and not optimized at all. But that's a trend across every UE5 game, it seems, and a reflection of the current state of the industry. Give it a different, more modern twist on gameplay mechanics: change the camera placement, make it resemble MGSV. Recreate the control scheme to distance the game from the 2004 original controls that were heavily dependent on the DualShock 2’s pressure-sensitive buttons. Re-record some voice lines if the originals sound out of place (such as Snake's scream when he dislocates his arm near the end of Virtuous Mission). Re-record the classic Snake Eater opening, by itself another Herculean task, since we’re talking about one of the greatest videogame openings of all time. Add new collectibles, why not? The GA-KO ducks always felt lacking compared to the Kerotan frogs in the original, so now we got 64 new yellow ducks to shoot. And that's it! Changes shouldn't be disrespectful or alter the original director's vision. A Capcom-style reimagining of classics would never work here. Adding new things is always acceptable, as long as they don't interfere with the original experience. And Delta does this masterfully: there are changes, but you have to be very perceptive to actually see them. Volgin's death, for example, was changed! Now it plays the characteristic Man on Fire SFX from MGSV: TPP, and his model was redesigned to better portray the immolated Volgin from MGSV. These, among other slight changes, are great and respectful additions to an already complete and borderline perfect package. Great job, Konami! All in all, Delta plays it safe, and who would have thought, that was the perfect approach. I believe Metal Gear Solid 3 never actually needed a remake, but the DualShock 2 controls were never perfectly adapted to modern consoles (even the PS3 HD Collection botched the pressure-sensitive button implementation, removing all precision and control from the player), and the original Snake Eater camera doesn't really sit well with modern players. Konami fixed it all, gave the game a fresh coat of paint, and called it a day. And that's exactly how you create a 10/10 remake. As unbelievable as it sounds, Konami actually remade Metal Gear Solid 3 (lol!), and they nailed it!

It`s Snake Eater, the anti-war, war game with goofy ahh bosses and a compelling story, but with frame drops, jittering, black flickering in cutscenes, and constant crashes. This is precisely the lack of quality you can expect from a Metal Gear game without Kojima. The upgraded graphics don`t make it worth it since there is no new content nor does it add anything to the base game. The original game is just as good (if not better since it doesn't crash) with a fraction of the price. Konami did nothing with the game: they didn't fix the clunky movement, they didn't learn from MGSV with it's immersive gameplay, and yet they released this game. The voice actors did great and the soundtrack is as beautiful as ever, but I've crashed more times than there are Foxhunt players. Makes you wonder why they used UE5 instead of Fox Engine (hint hint: Kojima). Don't buy full price, or play a game with Kojima's touch of quality like MGSV:TPP.

7/10 remake, cop it on sale for $48 or less. With the DLC it'll come out to $63 or so which is still less than the base game + even more discounted than the deluxe edition. Game is fun to play, new aiming system is nice except for the fact that the tranq pistol ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ SUCKS with the updated system. They wanted to make it harder to use the tranq pistol in third person aiming but instead of implementing Peace Walker or MGS V's system, they went and made the tranq pistol completely inconsistent to use with a horrible arcing trajectory. One moment you'll under shoot it and hit their chest, but then the next time you'll over shoot it and it'll aim slightly to the left and hit the wall above their head instead. PS2 jank still exists in the game. I found myself unable to CQC enemies when i had no weapon equipped, dragging enemies around on the floor is still as slow and clunky as it was on PS2, and moving while proned still moves like tank controls so sometimes i'd get spotted and die in Groznyj Grad trying to move out from underneath a tank due to my controls inverting out of nowhere. Those are my main gripes about the game though, i ran the game on high settings with a 4060, i7-9700F, and 16GB DDR4 RAM and only ever found performance issues when i had Google Chrome w/multiple tabs open along with my own AND a friend's discord stream open. The game usually ran at 60fps but sometimes dipped to 48-52 fps before stabilizing again, nothing that made it hard to play or gave me a headache. Most FPS drops came when i was in Groznyj Grad's open areas. Graphics look phenomenal, game is just as fun as I remembered, and i had a fun time sneaking through Tselinoyarsk again. Please make more Para-medic r34
