ACTUALLY, one of the greatest games ive ever played, probably ever made. im shocked I hadn't played it sooner. this game has one of the greatest stories ive ever seen in media, so much so, it needs a movie, a book, a show, and its own town named after it. if you do not like shooters, I dont care. if you do not like story rich games, I dont care. if you dont like video games at all, I DONT CARE! you will love this game! i rate it: ∞/10. PLEASE GET THIS GAME!

Half-Life 2 is one of my favorite games of all time, and also a perfect example of a truly generational game. It didn’t just improve the FPS genre—it changed how games could tell stories and interact with the player. What still makes it stand out is how immersive it feels without ever taking control away from you. The story happens around you while you’re playing, which keeps everything flowing naturally instead of breaking it up with constant cutscenes. It pulls you into the world and just lets you exist in it. The gravity gun alone is a huge part of why it’s so memorable. It turns the environment into something you can actually use in creative ways, not just something you move through. That idea alone influenced so many games after it. Even today, the pacing feels sharp and intentional. Every section introduces something new and then moves on before it gets old, which keeps the whole experience feeling fresh from start to finish. It’s the kind of game that didn’t just age well—it helped shape what came after it.

Absolutely legendary game, still amazing in 2026 with super fluid gameplay and atmospheres that feel incredibly liminal if you like that vibe. So good I replay it every so often and torture myself getting those incredibly difficult achievements like "Keep off the Sand!" where you can't touch the sand for a WHOLE lvl or "Go get some grub" where you gotta squash bugs XD

HL3. A very cool game. Sold after the first original part. You can feel the progress in technology and detail. There were a few bugs here and there, but they're easy to ignore. I liked the first game more because it conveyed a real old-school feel. But HL2 allows you to look at our modern world from a different perspective. The presence of a dictatorship in City 17 seems comical, since that world isn't that different from our own. However, the unfinished ending gives way to flights of fancy, including thoughts of HL3.

Half-Life 2 is one of the all time greats. Unmatched worldbuilding, good mix of HL1 style throwback as well as new environments, enemies, and gameplay. I've played HL2 through at least twice before, but over 10 years ago. Of course I remembered much of the main story, the helplessness when arriving in city17 initially and facing the can guard. I hadn't remembered the time jump after Nova Prospekt. Seeing the same ghettos again but this time fully armed and leading a rebellion in the trenches. I remembered the distinctive combine enemies (and their awesome hybrid bio tech in the dropships, gunships, and striders) but I did not recall the slight variations among them. Orange eyed CQB troops. The extra armoured military ones that cover each other and hug the corners in Nova Prospekt. I remembered the single red eyed elites but forgot how scary it was seeing them surround the teleporter and responding to our first major incursion trying to rescue Dr Vance. Valve's game design really shines through in Half-Life 2, I feel like I'm taking a class when I think about how they show-don't tell in practically all aspects. For example, how they build-up antlions; Starting with evading them on the rocks, then fighting them in buggy, then fighting their mini-boss to claim control over them. After that they let you play around a little killing sparse guards and sending the antlions to hard to reach places. Before you know it you are commanding legions of insects and assualting fortified bunkers like it's a WWII game. It's hard to even do justice to such an amazing game in a review, there is so much to talk about, so much to go over. Instead I'll instead finish with: 10/10 You should play this game. Achievement wise, nothing too difficult so far. Of note though is that since Valve combined Ep1 and Ep2 into the main game, they brought over the achievements as well. A "Half-Life 2" 100% now requires 100%ing HL2, HL2: Ep1, and HL2: Ep2. Ep1, complete. Fun clear.

9/10 The driving sections were very fun and hitting the jumps is very enjoyable. The boat sections were dope as well. Sound design is very good. Enemies we're fun to fight including the small bosses nothing crazy though. There was only one bug that occured when I was in a train filled with stalker type enemies and Alyx's pathfinding broke or bugged out but besides that the game is very stable and very functional. Also facial expressions of the npcs were very interesting to see for example like eye brows moving and if you flash your flashlight at their faces they hold up their arm to block the light which was a very nice touch. Story was interesting but definitely a little confusing but it made much more sense once I read a deeper explaination of it. The soundtracks were awesome and definitely gave some nostalgia because I heard of them in the past without knowing where they were from. The world design is very beautiful. The huge portal at the top of the tower is very amazing its crazy to imagine how well made the graphics are from 2004 and upholding in todays time, very magnifest especially since the game is almost 22 years old. Finally my favourite characters in the whole game would either be Gman or the robot dog. It was a very enjoyable game to play through. Definitely a timeless game.

I don't understand how this is the most glazed video game in history, touted as the greatest game of all time, yet its riddled with progression breaking bugs like dog not opening the airlock when he's supposed to completely stopping the game. It baffles me how a valve has been updating this game since 2013 yet there are still severe, obvious bugs ruing the entire experience

Most overrated game in existence probably. Worse both than most modern fps games just as well as it's predecessor HL1 which at least had better vibes, funny enemy AI and tight resource management. The bad: - Shooting doesn't feel fun. There are very few good levels in the base game, the episodes are much better in this regard though. - Story is immensely shallow and worse than your typical Resident Evil plot. All characters are walking tropes. - Game showers you with infinite ammo for every gun. - There are small bugs that the devs still somehow never fixed - Graphics style is uninspired. I mean, that's literally Bulgaria with brutalism alien structures. - Music doesn't seem to exist for most of the game - Sound effects are not great either - Enemy AI and variety sucks. You mostly fight the same grunts that walk around you like idiots. Grunts from HL1 felt more advanced. The good: - PHYSICS IS FUN. Almost no modern non-physics-oriented game incorporates so much physics, why was this abandoned? - Ravenholm, prologue, and the last chapter are very fun to play TLDR game aged very poorly

What more can be said? Absolute masterpiece. Half-Life 2 elevated FPS and gaming in general to a level that is pretty difficult to match, and that's probably why there's still no Half-Life 3 as of 2026. As an FPS, it lets the gameplay tell its story with practically no interruptions, and it introduces new concepts like weapons and enemies fantastically by providing the right situations for you to experiment with and master progressively. Its distinctive color scheme, paired with great overall design, gives it a ton of personality and distinctive feel. Cities felt oppressive, wilder areas gave off that abandonment feel, and outskirts are a mix of both, with the most enjoyable and unexpected encounters. Shooting is fine. There are plenty of weapons to allow different approaches, and the gravity gun is immensely useful and fun to play with. Enemies are varied, although I wished there were more alien-like ones, but they are still dumb in their tactics and pretty easy to outmaneuver with movement or to force them to push you for an easy kill. Maybe it was just a result of the environment they were fighting in, but it felt like they were more organized later on. Resources like ammo and health are pretty abundant. Driving sections were cool, and I especially enjoyed how they played into the game's "controlled jankiness". Characters are interesting, but there were some bugs with their pathfinding leading to some resets. Soundtrack and sound design are both great and memorable. One of the problems that I think that I will find later on after spending more time with Half-Life 2 is that it has no real and concrete identity. After my first playthrough, since I last played some great years ago, I found that each section was defined by a specific style. Half-Life 2 but on a boat, Half-Life 2 but only with the gravity gun, etc. I'm afraid that when asked to present the final product, it will feel lesser, like its parts are greater than the whole, but I will see how that is explored in Episodes 1 and 2.
