Battlefield 1 is one of those games that receives a lot of praise, and after playing it I can understand why. The presentation is impressive, the battles feel large in scale and the game does a good job of capturing the atmosphere of World War I. However, once I looked beyond the setting itself, I found a game that offers far less depth than its reputation suggests. The campaign never managed to hold my attention for very long. Instead of telling a single story, Battlefield 1 is divided into multiple war stories that follow different characters and situations. While this allows the game to showcase different parts of the conflict, it also makes the overall experience feel disconnected. None of the stories felt particularly memorable and, by the end, I was left with the impression that the campaign existed more to showcase the setting than to tell a compelling narrative. The multiplayer is clearly the main focus, but this is also where many of my criticisms begin. Battlefield 1 follows the same formula that the franchise has relied on for years. Large maps, objective-based modes, infantry combat, tanks and aircraft all return once again. The problem is not that this formula is bad. The problem is that I struggle to see meaningful evolution compared to previous entries. One of the biggest examples is vehicle gameplay. Battlefield has always promoted large-scale warfare where vehicles play an important role, yet I never felt that the franchise significantly expanded or improved these systems over time. Tanks still feel limited in their design and interactions. I am not asking Battlefield to become a simulator like War Thunder, nor do I expect every vehicle to operate with realistic armor penetration mechanics. What I wanted to see was some form of evolution. Different vehicles should feel more distinct from one another. Progression could offer more meaningful customization and variety. Vehicle combat could create more situations where players need to think about positioning, vehicle choice and tactical decisions rather than simply exchanging damage until one side is destroyed. Instead, many engagements feel very similar regardless of which vehicle is being used. This is one of the reasons why I often compare Battlefield to games such as Enlisted, War Thunder or even World of Tanks. The comparison is not because I want Battlefield to copy those games. It is because those games demonstrate that there are many ways to expand vehicle gameplay without abandoning accessibility. Battlefield remains committed to the same arcade-oriented approach it has used for years, but it rarely evolves that approach in meaningful ways. The progression system creates a similar feeling. Unlocks arrive at a reasonable pace, but the overall amount of content feels smaller than it should. Weapon customization is limited, progression paths are relatively straightforward and many systems feel less developed than they could be. For a game released years after several previous Battlefield titles, I expected more depth rather than another variation of the same structure. The class system also feels underutilized. Certain classes introduce mechanics such as building fortifications, but these features rarely go far enough to significantly change the battlefield. There was room to expand these ideas and create more meaningful interactions between players, objectives and map control, yet much of that potential remains unexplored. Another issue is that Battlefield 1 often relies on scale rather than depth. Large battles, numerous players and impressive set pieces create exciting moments, but once the novelty wears off the gameplay loop remains largely unchanged. Capturing objectives, defending positions and fighting over the same points can only carry the experience so far when the surrounding systems receive so little evolution. What ultimately disappointed me is that Battlefield 1 feels like a franchise changing its setting more than it changes its gameplay. The First World War theme is different. The weapons are different. The vehicles are different. Yet beneath those changes, the core experience remains extremely familiar. Rather than building significantly on what previous Battlefield games achieved, it often feels like another version of the same formula with a different historical backdrop. I do not think Battlefield 1 is a terrible game. The gunplay works, the scale is impressive and there is still enjoyment to be found in its multiplayer battles. The problem is that I expected a franchise with so many entries behind it to show greater ambition in the systems that define it. Instead, I found a game that relies heavily on its setting and presentation while offering relatively little evolution where it mattered most. Score: 5/10 (1) Trash (2) Horrible (3) Very Bad (4) Bad (5) Average (6) Fine (7) Good (8) Very Good (9) Great (10) Master Piece

Adding Kernel-Level Spyware to a game I've already bought! I'm uninstalling immediately and never playing again! If I could get a refund I would, But I guess I'll have to settle for educating everyone as to why Kernel-Level Access is A nightmare and not to buy "EA Games" anymore. Kernel-Level Access or Ring-0 Access, gives any Tech-Savvy Disgruntled Employee Access to your Entire Computer, Including ,Passwords, Bank Accounts, and can disable Antivirus or Security Software.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An Immersive and Epic WWI Experience. If you’re a fan of intense, large-scale battles and historical settings, Battlefield 1 is an absolute must-play. From the moment you jump into the game, you’re transported to the brutal and chaotic battlefields of World War I, and it’s a ride you won’t want to get off. Pros. 1. Stunning Graphics and Sound Design. The Frostbite engine brings WWI to life with breathtaking visuals. Every explosion, bullet, and cry of battle feels incredibly real. The sound design is equally immersive, making you feel every moment of the conflict. 2. Variety of Gameplay: Whether you’re piloting a biplane, commanding a tank, or storming trenches on foot, Battlefield 1 offers a diverse range of experiences. The different classes (Assault, Medic, Support, and Scout) provide varied playstyles, ensuring there’s something for everyone. 3. Engaging Single Player Campaign: The War Stories campaign is a highlight, offering emotional and personal tales from different perspectives across the war. Each story is unique and deeply impactful, providing a break from the multiplayer chaos while still being incredibly engaging. 4. Dynamic Multi-player. The multiplayer mode is where Battlefield 1 truly shines. The massive maps, dynamic weather, and destructible environments create unpredictable and thrilling battles. Operations mode, in particular, is a standout, providing a narrative-driven multiplayer experience that feels grand and epic. 5. Attention to Detail and Authenticity: The developers have done an excellent job in capturing the essence of WWI. From the weapons and vehicles to the uniforms and landscapes, everything feels authentic and meticulously crafted. Cons. 1. Learning Curve: For newcomers, the game can be a bit overwhelming at first. The vast maps and variety of gameplay options may take some time to get used to, but the community is generally helpful and there are plenty of resources online to help you improve. 2. Server Issues. Occasionally, there can be server issues or lag, which can be frustrating during intense battles. However, these instances are relatively rare and don’t detract significantly from the overall experience. Final Verdict. Battlefield 1 is a masterpiece that beautifully balances historical authenticity with thrilling gameplay. It’s a game that not only entertains but also educates, offering a poignant reminder of the horrors and heroism of WWI. Whether you’re a series veteran or a newcomer, Battlefield 1 is a game you’ll want to return to again and again. Highly recommended. Did you find this review helpful? Hit the thumbs up and join me on the battlefield.

Battlefield 1, released in 2016 – Review in 2026 What is this game like 10 years later, and why am I only writing a review now? Well, I already played Battlefield 1 back then, but only on console (PS4). Like every Battlefield, I mainly played multiplayer. The last campaign I finished before this was in Battlefield 4. This time I picked it up during a sale for €2.99 and thought: Why not come back and give it another try? This time I wanted to finish the campaign completely and jump back into multiplayer. Multiplayer is still a lot of fun. Very few Battlefield games—maybe only Battlefield V—have this level of immersion. Constant explosions, teammates shouting, the deep roar of tank engines, the sound of fighter planes flying low overhead… Battlefield 1 captured this atmosphere perfectly back in 2016, and it still does today. Of course, after 10 years you can’t freely play every game mode or every map anymore, which makes things harder for achievement hunters (luckily I’m not one of them). Even so, the game still has plenty of players at almost any time of the day. That’s not something you usually see in a 10-year-old AAA game. Most players stick to the popular maps and modes, but you’ll still have a great time. ⸻ Campaign – 10/10 This will probably be the longest part of my review. For me, the campaign is an easy 10/10. I’m very interested in history, so the story matters a lot to me. The campaign is very linear, but I actually like that. At the end of the day, Battlefield is a AAA multiplayer FPS, and the story has never been its main focus. Each chapter tells its own story, and it does it very well. My favorite chapters were Friends in High Places and The Runner. They tell personal stories inspired by the people who lived through one of the most brutal and important wars in history. The game puts you right into one of humanity’s darkest chapters. The stories are well written and feel epic without being over the top. The Runner was the most emotional chapter for me because it shows how many children and young people became victims of war and the wrong ideals of their time. The campaign takes about 10 hours to finish, and every hour was worth it. Not every campaign needs to be 30 or 40 hours long. I would gladly play it again. ⸻ Graphics – 10/10 The graphics are stunning. Back in 2016 they were incredible, and even 10 years later they still look amazing. ⸻ Gameplay – 10/10 The gameplay is simply fun. It’s fast, chaotic, and gives you exactly the feeling this setting is supposed to create. ⸻ Balancing – 8/10 I could easily give this a 10/10. However, I’m not level 150 and I haven’t unlocked every weapon, so I don’t think I can judge everything fairly. Based on what I’ve played, the balance feels very good. I reached around level 50 on PlayStation and around level 30 on PC. ⸻ Maps & Scale – 10/10 There’s something for everyone. The maps are large enough, varied, and exactly what I expect from a Battlefield game. ⸻ Vehicles – 10/10 If you’re interested in history and historical vehicles, Battlefield 1 delivers. The balance is good. There are enough vehicles without flooding the battlefield with them. That fits the setting perfectly, since World War I was the first major war where mechanized vehicles started to change warfare. ⸻ Seasons & Battlepass - 10/10 No seasons, no Battlepass just some battlepacks to open. Beautiful, that’s what we need! ⸻ Final Thoughts – 10/10 This review is only my personal opinion. I’ve been a huge Battlefield fan ever since Battlefield 2, so Battlefield 1 gets a 10/10 from me. Unfortunately, I missed the chance to stay active over the years, so I probably won’t come back very often anymore. But I completely understand everyone who has been playing this game since release—or is still playing it today. Thank you for taking the time to read my review. See you on the battlefield… Avanti Savoia!

Probably the last great battlefield game period. The slop we have now is unbelievably bad

Javelin anti-cheat is the biggest piece of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, I don't have Daemon tools running at all and I don't even have re-wasd installed yet the anti-cheat thinks otherwise. EDIT: I got the game up and running again, but still ♥♥♥♥ Javelin.

EA backported Javelin kernel anticheat to Battlefield 1, so I am leaving a negative review despite how much I love this game. And I do LOVE this game, which is why I am mad. The message you get on a Linux operating system like mine, reads: "The program encountered E111000B at 00003498 during initialization. Wine, Proton, and Steam Deck are not supported by this application!" So that's it then, I can't play this game that used to work seamlessly for YEARS, prior to their inclusion of this anticheat. I was really keen to get back into this game since I saw it for like $2.50 AUD. Anyway, onto my actual review. Battlefield 1 is arguably the best Battlefield game ever made. This is from someone who has played most of the series and most of the best games in that series. This game is one of the best looking games of the 2010s, it has incredible multiplayer gameplay, it has a fantastic array of weapons of all kinds, and while there are some balance issues here and there, overall it's an incredibly fun game. And, something else that's great, this game even supports dedicated servers. It's a Battlefield game, you run, you shoot, but it's easy to downplay just how fantastic everything is in this game. How well-made it is. I don't think there are many shooters that have been made, since the original Doom, that are this meticulous in their polish and simultaneously how advanced the game is. For instance, the game has the same destructible structures that Bad Company 2 had, and this if I recall wasn't even mentioned in the marketing. This is just something the game does, and even better than ever before. Something else that REALLY impressed me, was the server-based debris and other objects, so when you are firing from behind a barrel or something, that object IS simulated by the server and it gets sent to ALL players. For this reason sometimes when you join a game, you might get in and suddenly see a bunch of stuff just randomly blow up, because the server is updating you on the state of objects on the map. It's fantastic, and it's just one tiny detail in this huge cheeseburger of a game. Battlefield 1 seamlessly bridges the gap between, like a more arcade shooter, and something like Red Orchestra 2, with its 32v32 action. It has spectacular maps, I don't even think there is a bad map in this game. Some are better than others? And I think one of the two DLC maps are kinda meh, but overall this game shipped with some seriously good maps, which I think is indicated by the fact that a lot of servers had several maps in rotation as opposed to just having 24/7 '2fort' or 'dust2'. So the actual maps are gigantic. They aren't like, really huge compared to some open world games, but they are pretty much the exact right size they need to be to give every class a chance to do things. And that's one of the genius elements of the game. For example, Scouts get chances to shoot from vantage points all over the map that don't feel like designated 'okay you are a sniper you may shoot from here' locations. As it kind of should be you can basically set up anywhere you want, limited only by your creativity. For instance, you can be in a plane, bail out, parachute onto a tall building and use that as your vantage point until someone dies at your hand and revenge snipes you, or worse. Which also means there's counterplay to whatever deviousness you can come up with, which means that no strategy is ever impenetrable or undefeatable. It feels shallow in a way to just talk about how nice the guns feel to shoot, but it bears mentioning that while many of the weapons in this game have far nicer sights and such than they probably really would in real life, the guns in BF1 are an absolute joy to shoot, and the detail to be found in their models and just how they... work, is legitimately awe-inspiring. They went to all the trouble, to like accurately represent the function of stripper clips, and all the primitive magazines and loading systems that the weird guns from the early 1900s would have. They even deliberately chose a lot of weird or kind of crappy guns to put in the game too, anything that seemed interesting and I think it really paid off, there are SO many cool weapons in this game even when they suck, and most of them tend to be pretty fun to use (except when they suck beyond belief.) Even all the weird gadgets every class gets to play with like trip mines or decoys or whatever, they're all just amazing to use and so creative and interesting to play around. I even absolutely LOVE the dedicated 'gas mask' button, and the fact that gas is such a common tool. It's such a weird and interesting choice. I should note that aside from the multiplayer there are a few short singleplayer segments, but they really aren't anything special. They are okay to play, but I wouldn't recommend you pick up this game because of them. In pretty much every way, in interesting contrast to 'World War 1' and how that war was actually fought, Battlefield 1 is the opposite of stuck in a rut. It's so smartly designed and so well made from every angle, and it completely rejuvenated the franchise in my eyes. This was the shot of adrenaline the series needed to get away from just being like 'modern shooter with vehicles' and it avoided being, 'World War 2 shooter' as well, because when they tried it, we got BFV, which is an okay game, but it's not nearly as good as this one. So I'm very disappointed I don't get to play it again. I don't really want to boot into Windows to play just this one game, and the experience on Linux was genuinely extremely pleasant, and without any tinkering to get it to run.
