I think the Art direction and atmosphere are the majority of what carries this game to a Mostly Positive. The re imagining of Soviet Russia into a Bio-shock-esque wonderland is great and what carried me through the game where the dialogue, story, and repetitive game play tried to force me away (something, something, horny fridge). I got to the end due to sunk cost fallacy, but was a struggle for the last push. So credit where its due, but do not recommend.

    Никогда бы не подумала, что буду флексить под Пугачёву, но... вот мы тут. Наконец-то можно написать про игру. Наверное, у меня от Atomic Heart осталось два совершенно разных впечатления. Впечатление 1 Когда я впервые прошла основную игру (ещё в скрепном VK), мне она в целом понравилась. Конкретно — сеттинг, роботы, Сеченов со своими мечтательно-философскими рассуждениями, отличные полигоны (хоть многие я тогда пропустила), ХРАЗ и в целом мир, сеттинг, канва сюжета. В кратце — мы играем за майора Нечаева, он же П-3, которого отправляют на Предприятие 3826. Там должна была пройти презентация системы Коллектив, призванной объединить людей и роботов, — но вместо этого Нечаев обнаруживает полный ♥♥♥♥♥♥: роботы выходят из-под контроля, комплекс превращается в поле боя, а за всем происходящим постепенно начинают проступать куда более серьёзные вещи. И чем дальше продвигается сюжет, тем больше вопросов появляется к Сеченову, ХРАЗу и вообще тому, что происходит с самим Нечаевым. Что мне ОЧЕНЬ НЕ понравилось — дак это просто изнуряющий в своих боях открытый мир. Когда хотелось исследовать локации, разглядывая каждую будочку, но у тебя совершенно нет на это времени. Потому что ты с горящей жопой сначала пиздишь всех мобов на локации, а потом понимаешь, что они бесконечные, и просто носишься от них по карте, чтобы быстрее добраться до следующей точки сюжета. При этом сами локации потрясающие, в игре вообще отличный визуальный стиль и огромное количество мест, которые хочется рассматривать и исследовать. И тем обиднее, что нормально ты это сделать не можешь. И ещё меня очень расстроила концовка игры. Нас буквально бросают посреди только начинающих проясняться событий. А когда продолжение? Да хрен его знает когда, может когда-то во второй части. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3783414786 После основной игры я ещё немного потыкалась в первое дополнение Annihilation Instinct — ну такое, и Trapped in Limbo, которое почти сразу дропнула, потому что мне совершенно не зашло, что механика игры так сильно поменялась. Да и голос Екатерины не понравился. Впечатлений от дополнений было ну примерно ноль. Впечатление 1.5. Релиз в в Steam Поэтому, когда спустя время Atomic Heart наконец выходит в Steam, а к игре как раз уже подъехали все заявленные дополнения, я решаю дать ей второй шанс. Точнее, даже не так. Основной сюжет я плюс-минус помнила, а в прошлых дополнениях, как мне казалось, ничего особо важного не происходило, поэтому решила начать сразу с последних двух дополнений. И БЛИН. Какого же было моё удивление, что они не просто добавляют какой-то отдельный контент, а напрямую продолжают сюжет основной игры. И, что самое главное, они его действительно завершают. Enchantment Under the Sea Нечаев получает в напарницы Катерину и значительная часть истории строится вокруг их взаимодействия. Мне было невероятно приятно наконец посмотреть на них именно как на пару, да ещё и когда голос Екатерине подарила прекрасная Татьяна Шитова. Само дополнение при этом очень сильно выигрывает от того, что разработчики, наконец-то, избавили нас от главного минуса - открытого мира. Здесь сюжет поставлен на рельсы (да, есть обширные локации, но не открытый мир с бесконечными врагами, и дают время нормально осмотреться в мирном режиме). И, господи, как же это хорошо работает. Никакой духоты. По сюжету Нечаев возвращается на Предприятие вместе с Катериной пытается разобраться в случившемся и с последствиями. Появляются новые персонажи, старые знакомые, подводный комплекс “Нептун”, а сама история начинает двигаться к тому самому продолжению, которого не хватало после основной игры. Blood on Crystal А это дополнение уже доводит историю до финала. И вот здесь разработчики решили объяснить всё — последние DLC закрывают практически все вопросы, которые могли возникнуть после основной игры. Что там с Элеонорой, откуда взялись кольца, что на самом деле происходит с ХРАЗом, каковы мотивы обоих друганов — ответов становится очень много. Многие вещи, которые после основной игры казались просто недосказанными или странными, получают объяснение. И в итоге история ощущается гораздо более цельной. Сюжет, как обычно, не пересказываю, это же концовка, спойлеры! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3778864549 И отдельный плюс этому DLC за песню, точнее, за аранжировку ”Позови меня с собой”. Я буквально несколько недель ещё крутила её в голове. И знаете что в итоге? Мне настолько понравилась теперь уже окончательная концовка игры, что я “поплыла” и пошла перепроходить основную игру целиком. Причём с совершенно другим настроением. Впечатление 2.0 После повторного прохождения основной игры с зачисткой всех-всех полигонов, я села повторно за первые два DLC и они неожиданно заиграли совершенно другими красками. Annihilation Instinct теперь уже не воспринимается как какой-то случайный филлер. Да, сюжетно здесь происходит не так много интересного, но зато появляется Лебедев, который потом принимает участие в концовке основной истории. Поэтому было приятно видеть его здесь. В DLC Нечаев возвращается в комплекс Менделеева, где сталкивается с обезумевшей Элеонорой и пытается разобраться с происходящим. Ну и гусь..) И Trapped in Limbo после знакомства с Катериной вообще воспринимается совершенно иначе. Первый раз я быстро его дропнула, потому что меня бесила и изменившаяся механика, и сама подача. А теперь лимбо становится местом, где мы узнаём больше о Нечаеве, его прошлом, отряде Аргентум и отношениях с Катериной. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3778164975 И боже, какие же милые щебетарии я с ними послушала в Лимбо. Там мы наконец видим Нечаева не только как вечно матерящегося мужика с горящей жопой, а каким он был раньше — живым, влюблённым и вообще милашкой. Итог В итоге Atomic Heart для меня оказалась довольно странной игрой. В первый раз я вроде получила удовольствие от основной части, но осталась с ощущением недосказанности и раздражением от открытого мира. А после прохождения всех DLC и повторного прохождения основной игры впечатление изменилось довольно сильно. Теперь вся эта история ощущается гораздо цельнее. То, что раньше казалось недосказанным, получает продолжение и объяснение, персонажи раскрываются лучше, а отношения Нечаевых вообще стали для меня одной из самых приятных частей всей этой истории. И, наверное, именно поэтому сейчас я могу сказать, что Atomic Heart мне всё-таки понравилась. Даже очень. Жду с нетерпением продолжения, а пока “догоняюсь” книгами “Предыстория Предприятия 3826” и “Миссия: ХРАЗ”.

    Atomic heart is a game with some great strengths and is at times quite a lot of fun... but it's also a game that feels frustratingly half-a$$ed and unfinished. Pros: The art and design of the world is great for the most part. The worldbuilding is well executed and most parts of the universe the game exists in feel very well thought out. Most of the gameplay is quite fun, although less so when you run into the less complete parts of the game. A lot of the voice actors do a really good job... with what they're given. Cons: Where to even begin, there's quite a lot wrong with the game. There's a reason all the pros came with a "but". The game contains a small amount of AI generated art in it, only like 0.01% of it but it's very baffling since the rest of the game looks so great and 2023 AI art is so obvious and crappy looking to boot. There's one mosaic texture you can see near the end of the opening section of the game that looks like complete garbage surrounded by beautifully handcrafted environments, who thought this was a good corner to cut? While the worldbuilding is good, the dialog goes from mediocre to downright bad. So overall the writing leaves a pretty bad impression. The main character spouts a lot of sarcastic tough guy talk but at the same time also whines like an annoying kid all the time in the dialog with other characters. Every robot character speaks in sexual innuendo constantly, especially annoying is the vending machine where you upgrade your weapons and craft things, it just never lets up. Even the worldbuilding isn't without flaws however because the creators of the game clearly had no love for the music of the 1950s so unlike in Fallout where all music fit a single era, in this game there's a quantum radio that plays music from "possible futures." leading to the game, the further it goes along being filled with more and more modern house music and stuff, not just in background music but even on location based radios and such. While there isn't that many female characters, all except Granny Zina (who is your classic babushka,) look extremely modern, nothing retro about them, not even the haircuts feel older than the last few years, very odd. The game being open world was clearly an afterthought. In the optional dungeons you can meet bosses before they are introduced in the main plot, yet the dialog about them is still there when you meet them in the main plot, not the first time you meet them. There's also a character that gets killed partway through the story and if you go to a part further back on the map you can still get radioed by him because you had yet to trigger that call. Some areas in the open world section feel strangely empty, like they placed the buildings and debris and such but didn't add any loot, lore, nor hardly even enemies. The optional dungeons have a lot of regular loot right at the start and then almost none besides the blueprints, (which are the reason you go there,) so there's not much encouragement to explore them even when they don't look completely linear which is a missed opportunity. Since there's zero lore stuff in the optional dungeons they don't really feel like they're a part of the world. Due mostly to the open world section the dosing out of worldbuilding/lore is really uneven, besides the optional dungeons having nothing at all, near the end of the game you get to an archive where you'll spend ages reading lore if you're interested, seems like it should have been sprinkled throughout the game more evenly. Parts of the game are pretty unbalanced like enemies that can mob up on you so you can't move, doesn't happen too often but always frustrating when it does. Bosses that can stun lock you and hit you multiple times in a row without you being able to heal or move in between, which is a big problem if a boss takes almost half your healthbar per hit. The environmental subtitling is hit or miss. If you only follow the main path pretty much everything has subtitles, signs and posters etc. everything except lyrics in background music or radio chatter, but that's just era flavor and insignificant anyways. But if you go into optional dungeons, good luck knowing what text is saying because some of them seem to not include any subtitles at all. And speaking of subtitles, during dialog the subtitles are timed to match the flow of the Russian voice actors not the English ones so sometimes the text is way too early or way too late to match what they are saying. But hey, I hear what you're saying, you know English fluently and the voice actors don't mumble, why would you need to read the subtitles? Well the game has this nasty habit of having things overlap, if you're speaking to your talking glove, that doesn't stop other characters or radios in the environment from speaking at the same time, the only thing that pauses is if you're listening to an audio log when the glove or some other story related dialog begins. One dream sequence has the "music" from the movie Annihilation in it, not really a negative, just odd. I only had a single crash which is a very small amount for an Unreal Engine game and the times getting truly stuck where ducking or dashing couldn't get me loose from level geometry was also just a single time. Yes, it was of course in one of those optional dungeons. There are two endings to the main game, all decided by a single choice near the end of the game which is pretty lazy in a game of this length. DLC 1 takes place after one ending while DLC 2, 3 and the upcoming 4th take place after the other. DLC 1 Annihilation Instinct: Doubles down on the sexual innuendo stuff by making the sexbot vending machine from the main game a main character in the story. The new BEA-D enemy is probably the worst one in the game, it's the enemy most likely to engulf you in bodies so that you're unable to move, which inevitably leads to death. Why? Because they always come in large numbers and unless you've injured them they'll always beeline it straight for you. It also features my least favorite boss of the game, and you fight it again in an even more annoying version later on too. It has both stun-locking-you-to-death attacks and swarmers that can lock you into place during its different stages. DLC 2 Trapped in Limbo: Complete garbage in my opinion. Barely a minute of fun to be had. I know there's an audience for this sort of surf platforming stuff, but how much of it overlaps with the audience that was interested in this game? My guess would be very little of it. A lot of people seem to complain about the crappy subway surfers segment near the end but really, is it actually any worse than what came before it? There's also some gimmicky boss and arena fights which are all bad. The main character starts off talking in grunts for a fair bit of the DLC, which would be an improvement, but these grunts have subtitles that represents real sentences, and they can happen during platforming segments, so good luck actually reading the subtitles, you'll most likely miss that half of any dialog going on. You'd think the never ending sexual innuendo would be absent from a story where you're stuck in candyland? You're right... BUT THINK AGAIN! The architecture includes boobs and vaginas and one of the music tracks include sexual moaning. DLC 3 Enchantment Under the Sea: Basically ditching everything I disliked about the game, or at least toning it all down. No open world stuff, good. Much less sex $hit, good. Bosses have a lot less attacks that feel unavoidable, good. While I don't think this aquatic theme is the most striking that this game has had, the gameplay is pretty much only the good parts without the bad, making this the most solid part of the entire game so far. Even the music ditches the bad house stuff and returns to mostly feeling old timey, especially when being part of the environment. DLC 4: Not out yet.

    I loved the bizarre alternate-history Soviet sci-fi world. Beyond the action, it makes you think about technology and how society works. This makes it a truly memorable experience.     Man, I'm kind of sad about this game. I expected something a bit more engaging and less frustrating, but it really felt a lot different than I was expecting. I had pretty high hopes here. The beginning of the game really pulled me in. The art and graphics are incredible... huge shout out to the art team, because they nailed it. The premise of the story seemed pretty good at first too! I started to feel some bioshock vibes, but after exiting the first lab area, things really just got annoying. I gave this one an honest try and kept pushing on, but playing the game is just cumbersome. First off, this game is a puzzle game first and foremost. Combat definitely takes a back seat to the puzzles. This wouldn't bother me if the puzzles were interesting, but they're really not. A lot of the recycled puzzles where you're rotating a floor or room are just time sinks. It takes longer to get the puzzle set up than to just move through it. Half the time, there is some weird gap in the flooring that doesn't feel like it was meant to be where you fall down. It's not hard to solve, it's just annoying. The nail in the coffin for me was getting stuck for the 5th time in 10 hours and not being able to get unstuck. The way the save system works, it doesn't necessarily set you back far, but I was set back before one of the aforementioned crappy puzzles several times due to getting stuck on ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. Climbable walls, stairs, hand rails... you name it, I got stuck on it. Most of the time, I could dash my way out, but several times, I simply had to reload a save. Not to mention the climbing is janky as can be. Combat doesn't feel fun and snappy like Cyberpunk. Everything works, it's not terrible, but it's just not fun. Everything feels slow and clunky, and even when you get better, everything still feels like a chore. I feel like I was missing something and I probably am, but this seems like a common critique. Then, add on the fact that in the open world, enemies constantly get healed and respawned by the flying robots that you just feel like engaging the enemy is the worst way to play. You get swarmed and the more you kill, the more just respawn and overrun you. The beginning of the game before this happens is literally the best part. Main character is pretty cringy. Feels like a millennial edge lord wrote everything thinking "yeah what would sound the most BADASS for this guy to say while also making people laugh?" It just falls flat so much. The humor doesn't stick the landing and everything feels forced. Lastly, the dreaded open world scanning mechanic is here as well. Can't stand it anymore. I don't like viewing a game with such great artwork through the lens of a scanner looking for items or objectives I need. Could be worse for sure... I wouldn't have continued if it weren't for the art and environmental design, but frustration with everything else got the better of me. May pick it up later, but if I do, I'll follow a guide and try to find an OP build to breeze through it.

    Atomic Heart: A Wild Ride Through Soviet Robotics & One Horny Vending Machine This review is based purely on my experience with the main campaign. I don't own any of the DLCs yet. When I first started Atomic Heart, I immediately fell in love with its atmosphere. The sheer amount of attention to visual details, environments, architecture, machines, interiors, and that bizarre futuristic Soviet world had me wandering around like a tourist who had completely forgotten there was supposed to be a game happening. And then the combat started. My character started moving around at high speed, enemies started throwing everything they had at me, the camera was shaking, and my stomach basically filed for divorce. I was getting extreme motion sickness, especially during hectic fights. After digging through the settings, I ended up reducing the camera shake to an extremely low value, around 0.2, and changed the FOV to 95. That made a huge difference for me and made the game much more comfortable to play. Once I got that sorted, I could properly appreciate what Atomic Heart does best. 🎨 The Atmosphere Is the Real Star For me, the game's visuals, atmosphere, ambience, and environmental design are far more memorable than either its narrative or combat. This futuristic Soviet setting is absolutely bonkers in the best possible way. There is always something interesting to look at, from giant structures and machines to tiny environmental details. The world feels deliberately designed rather than just being a collection of corridors waiting for the next firefight. And this game turned out to be an absolute playground for screenshots. I started getting into panoramic screenshots a few months back, and Atomic Heart has been one of the most enjoyable games I've used for them. The in-game photo mode is fantastic for this, especially because it lets you capture screenshots at up to 4K, regardless of the actual display resolution. So while everyone else was busy fighting robots, I was frequently standing around thinking: "Hang on, this would make a great panoramic screenshot." 📸 I spent a ridiculous amount of time admiring the environments and capturing screenshots. Honestly, some of my favorite moments in this game involved absolutely no combat whatsoever. 🧠 The Story: Perfectly Serviceable The narrative was pretty passable for me. It had its fun moments, although it wasn't really the main reason I kept playing. What I did really enjoy was the game's main protagonist P-3's interaction with the various bots throughout the game, particularly his conversations with his personal AI companion CHAR-les and, of course, the magnificently horny vending machine NORA. Yes. The vending machine. And somehow, that's not even the strangest thing you'll encounter here. Crispy Critters! There are also some entertaining encounters along the way, including Granny Zina, who definitely leaves an impression. The game has two endings, and both felt a little abrupt to me, leaving me wondering if some of these story threads are meant to be picked up in the Story DLCs. I guess I'll have to get them eventually and pay a visit to Facility 3826 again... someday! 🔫 The Gameplay: A Little Bit of Everything The gameplay feels like it takes inspiration from a whole buffet of FPS games, throws the ingredients into a blender, and then serves the result with a Soviet robot on top. Most encounters involve fighting various types and sizes of robots, with the occasional biological enemy thrown into the mix. There are plenty of weapons, abilities, upgrades, and skills available, so there is quite a bit of room to experiment. Personally, I mostly stuck to the basic stuff. Whenever things got particularly crowded, during special encounters, or in boss fights, I'd start experimenting with the other weapons and abilities available. But for the majority of the campaign, I didn't feel the need to use every tool in the toolbox. Overall, the gameplay was very serviceable for me. It did the job, even if it wasn't the part of Atomic Heart that impressed me the most. One gameplay feature I absolutely loved, though, was P-3's ability to simply flick his hand and send nearby items hurling toward him. Ammo? Yoink. Collectible hiding under a desk? Yoink. Something sitting inside a drawer? Yoink. Item hiding behind a box or dead enemies? YOINK. Suddenly the entire room is feeding me supplies. This is one of those small quality-of-life features that makes looting so much less tedious. There is no need to manually open every single drawer, box, cabinet, and random container just in case somebody left three bullets inside it. Just flick your hand and vacuum the place clean. 🔊 Sound Design The sound design was good as well. The weapons, machines, environments, and general ambience all helped sell the strange world the game was trying to create. Nothing particularly jumped out at me as a major weakness here. ⚙️ Performance & Storage Performance was generally fine for me, although I did encounter occasional dips. I also believe Denuvo was removed at some point, and the game seemed to perform better afterward, although I can't say that with absolute certainty. The bigger eyebrow-raiser for me is the installation size. The base game alone is around 157 GB on my system, despite me not owning any of the DLCs. That is a lot of Soviet machinery occupying my SSD. It also makes me wonder whether DLC content is included in the overall download even if you don't own it, because the size feels enormous for the base game alone. Either way, I think Atomic Heart could definitely benefit from better optimization, both in terms of performance and overall installation size. 🧪 Final Verdict: 8/10 Atomic Heart is a strange game. Its combat didn't exactly sweep me off my feet, the narrative was mostly passable, and I had to wrestle with motion sickness before I could comfortably enjoy the gameplay. But the world itself? That's where the game got me. The visuals, atmosphere, ambience, environmental detail, futuristic Soviet aesthetic, bizarre characters, and sheer amount of interesting stuff to look at kept pulling me in. And once I discovered how much I enjoyed exploring these environments, I probably spent even more time sightseeing than the developers intended. I came for the robots. I stayed for the scenery.     Awesome idea, awesome world, awesome graphics, and much more. Atomic Heart has a lot going for it. The setting is genuinely interesting, the visuals are fantastic, and even the story had a lot of potential. And that's probably what makes my experience with the game so frustrating. I actually found the story interesting. There were a lot of things I wanted to know more about, but the way the story was presented to the player often felt too vague and fragmented. Important information was scattered around, hinted at, or buried in conversations and logs, and I often felt like I was missing pieces of the bigger picture. The story itself was cool, but I don't think it was presented in a way that made me care about it as much as I could have. The biggest problem for me was the repetitiveness. After a while, it felt like I was doing the same things over and over again, and it completely killed my motivation to keep playing. What started as an interesting and exciting experience eventually became a chore. The soundtrack didn't help either. It was all over the place. One moment it's a beautiful russian lullaby, then some classic Soviet music, and suddenly there's D&B or hard rock blasting in the background. Don't get me wrong, some of those tracks were absolute bangers, but they often felt completely out of place. Instead of enhancing the atmosphere, they sometimes completely killed the immersion. It's a shame, because there's a really cool game buried underneath all of this. The world, art direction, graphics, and overall concept are genuinely awesome. But for me, the repetitive gameplay eventually outweighed all of those positives. I really wanted to like this game, but by the end, I was just glad it was over.

    The game looks visually great...and that is about all it offers in my opinion. The writing is corny to the point of it being embarrassing, the plot was very intriguing in the beginning of the game and then went a million different places and ended up having an extremely below average ending. I was bored and unimpressed 90% of the time and could not wait to finish this. Such a bummer because I was really looking forward to playing this and even spent $60 to do so. A waste of money and time. I do not recommend.

    Atomic Heart plays something like a mix between BioShock and Half-Life. While some aspects of the game are genius, others feel bafflingly amateurish. On one hand you have the presentation. Mundfish takes some big swings and most of them connect. The visuals impress, both on a technical and design level. Environments and set pieces are detailed and often impressively creative. The sound also deserves mention. Music is eclectic, but the quality undeniable. You won't like every piece, but you're sure to love some of them. On the other hand, you have the gameplay. Endlessly spawning, self-repairing enemies. Dull, tedious fetch quests and puzzles. Repeatedly entering/exiting different menus and rewatching long-winded animations. Several times I asked myself: "Am I doing this right? Is this really how I'm supposed to play?" Despite introducing a lot of cool high-level sf concepts, the story somehow manages to feel quite uninteresting. It's also laughably contrived. Throughout the story, basically every named character is revealed to be working for the opposite side. I also found the tone a little strange, it definitely feels like something was lost in translation (and the English dub doesn't help). A severely flawed but commendably bold and ambitious game. A unique experience. Weakest of recommends. Good to know: Quite difficult Fully playable on the Steam Deck 100ish GB install

    Ok where do I start... Pros: - The world is good, similar to wolfenstein the USSR aesthetic is amazing and the world feels like a fallout / futuristic world - The characters were varied, and I didn't mind most of the dialogue even if it was really simplistic. - The game definitely has some duke nuke'm vibes in terms of it's storytelling which wasn't too bad most of the time. - The graphics were fairly good, and the world felt rather cool to explore. - The introduction of flesh enemies was a change I did not expect, and how they added them was rather interesting. Cons: - Ok, so to start I would mark this game as utter false advertisement. Maybe I didn't look deep enough and should have watched more trailers or gameplay, but goodness I did not think this was going to be a puzzle game more than a shooter. - The combat is bad. I know some say it's passable, but I felt it started to become tedious and utterly dog water before I even got out of the first section. This in part is because for whatever reason the developers had Doom's combat with what feels you playing as the geriatric you meet at the beginning. If you want enemies to move fast and stun me for getting a hit in, that fine. But please for the sake of everyone's sanity add a parry or make me faster so I can actually dodge or at the minimum let me block with my melee weapons. - On the topic of combat, the enemies love to stun lock you, ALL...THE...TIME. And generally I would say this is a. "get good" type thing, but even after playing for a little while you notice very quickly that every enemy like to basically stun lock you into oblivion while shoving you in a corner as you frantically fire everything as more come into dog pile you. - I would love to explore the world... if the developers also didn't decide to have the enemies infinitely spawn in within seconds without any ability to delay or stop them in any significant way. I know there is a lore reason, but making it impossible to enjoy a run and gun play style in a game that's modelled like doom with a fairly slow and garbage stealth system destroyed the fun between the puzzles. Additionally, it also didn't help that despite levelling the character to the max, I still felt like I was a soft, slow, and weak no matter how much or what I upgraded. - And goodness the puzzles, I've never played a game with such bad pacing before. One minute your fighting a tough boss and finally making some progress before... "Alright Major, go grab the thingy do hickey from thingle bopper." "Ok, I will go do that." "Wait before you go, follow this excruciatingly slow robot as it goes on about random nonsense, then let it send you on yet another fetch quest split into multiple sections, each with random drawn out puzzles filled with un-fun stun locking enemies in each small room along the way." "Can't I just go grab the thing?" "No, In fact I will now spew a random unfunny joke about why this is tedious, enjoy beep boop." - The guns are horrendous, I know they were going for some elemental system but frankly it really just didn't work. As even with all the elemental damage cranked to the max it still felt like all I was doing was tickling them while spending the tiny amount of ammo I had left. (Not to mention that the robot would just instant re spawn so I was literally just pissing ammo into the wind) - The puzzles themselves were sometimes interesting, but like the combat quickly got repetitive. (Also didn't help that they were often not well explained, the instructions would get cut off by other dialogue, the puzzle just wouldn't make sense at all unless you looked it up, or my favourite: put a puzzle that is always on a wall, on the floor, hidden amongst the floor tiles so the player is basically humping and shooting everything to find out how to open a simple door to yet another puzzle) - Small thing, but the characters had every accent except a slavic one... ( And yes I checked and there isn't a way to turn on slavic audio with english subtitles) In conclusion, would I recommend this game, HELL NO. I know the developers probably put a lot of work into this, and reading some of the other comments it seems like it's a rather good crew and I would not want to discourage them from taking risks like they clearly did with this game. But unfortunately, while I'd usually say, "buy it on sale". I did (at a rather deep discount too) and I totally regret buying it, as it's basically one long puzzle game mixed with a way more garbage version of doom.

    Played through the main content and all DLC in roughly under 40 hours. This is a fantastic game. It's like Bioshock, Doom and fallout had a baby. You got the gameplay and skilltree for abillities like bioshock , extremely fluid and satisfying combat like doom and the humor and jokes of fallout. You got plenty of weapons to chose from and find. There's dungeons or rather "testing grounds" as they're called here where you find weapon blueprints or upgrades and crafting resources. The world isn't really open world but thast's ok. Graphicly the game looks good. the soundtrack and score is IMMACULATE. You got some banger tunes in there , stuff goes from metal to even house music. Story is also really well done. . The bosses are very interesting and later on are incredibly fun as they come with different mechanics that you need to watch out for. There is one flaw in my opinion: You absolutely need to get this with the DLCs. The main reason being that the main game has 2 endings and both of them feel VERY open and abrupt. The DLCs tie up the story nicely and give much needed closure (also new abillities weapons etc.) Overall this was a suprisingly good game that gives you about 40 hours of content with the DLCs. Most definetly recommended

    The game is very stylish; superficially it looks very polished. Everything else is OK at best! The weapons don't feel good to shoot at all. The upgrades aren't satisfying. The puzzles aren't particularly interesting. The voice acting and writing are off and a bit confusing. Everything in the game lacks punch, flavor; the visuals and the music are the only really nice parts, and they sort of paper over how lackluster the rest is. Oh well!

    A Stunning, Soviet-Fueled BioShock That Shines Despite Its Rough Edges Atomic Heart is a strange, ambitious, and unforgettable beast. Hailing from debut studio Mundfish, this first-person shooter throws you into a breathtaking alternate universe where the Soviet Union never fell and instead achieved technological transcendence through a mysterious liquid called Polymer. Let's start with what Atomic Heart gets brilliantly right. The visual art direction is nothing short of a masterpiece . From the gleaming, utopian sky-city of Chelomey to the claustrophobic, blood-soaked corridors of underground laboratories, every environment drips with a unique "Soviet atompunk" aesthetic that feels both retro and futuristic. You will stop to just stare at the statues and architecture . The combat is far from perfect, but it gets the job done and keeps you engaged. It's a solid mix of melee swings, gunplay, and Polymer glove abilities. Freezing a robot, smashing it with an electrified axe, or using telekinesis to clear a room, it all works well enough to be enjoyable. The system isn't deep or revolutionary, but it's responsive, punchy, and provides enough variety to keep fights feeling fresh. The enemy designs are creative, and the boss battles are spectacularly chaotic set-pieces that will test your reflexes. And of course, the soundtrack. Featuring original tracks by the legendary Mick Gordon , the music shifts seamlessly from ambient synth to pulse-pounding heavy metal covers of Soviet pop songs . It's an adrenaline shot directly to the heart and arguably one of the best game soundtracks in years. I also don't fully understand the criticism aimed at protagonist P-3. He's a blunt, rough-edged Soviet soldier - direct, sometimes crude, and unapologetically gruff. That's the point. He's not meant to be a charming, witty hero. He's a man of action thrown into a nightmare he never signed up for. Yes, he's grotesque and over-the-top at times, but that exaggerated personality fits perfectly within this bizarre, hyper-stylized world. All of the DLCs are solid, but the last two are genuinely fantastic. Its open world is a genuine nuisance, but the core combat, stunning visuals, and killer soundtrack carry it through. The DLCs prove the team learned their lessons. I'm genuinely excited for Atomic Heart 2.

    Pretty good game overall with awesome story, visuals and soundtrack. Obviously, it's not without flaws. The movement here is kinda cancer, especially climbing, I got stuck a couple of times this way and had to restart the last checkpoint. The gameplay loses its novelity after a couple of hours and then it becomes a little repetitive and grindy, at least you can skip the door puzzles. People said that the game is hard so I played it on the easiest difficulty just to be safe but wish I didn't, it's really not that hard. One thing I don't understand is why the game got called out for being a Russian propaganda, if anything, the game portrays the Soviet Union in a negative light.

    The game has a very beautiful art style. And that's it. Everything else is boring, broken, badly designed and pathetic. You better just to watch some playthrough than play it.

    After 3 years of being held "hostage" by VK Play - it's finally purchaseable in CIS region and it is one of the coolest games I ever played. That fact is boosted by realising that it's a game made by Russians for Russians, and being Russian, well, you know how it works. Like watching anime about Japan while being Japanese. You just get "haha yes that's us" all the time. Now a bit detailed about it. General gameplay is straight up Bioshock 1 and 2 copies, adapted for the modern tech. You have melee, you have guns, you have polymers - local analog of magic, you can upgrade it all, and you're going to have fun with it. Though movement might feel a bit clunky at first, but once you're in the open world - you'll figure it out. Story fully unfolds with the base game and all 4 DLCs with it, and it's fun following it. There wasn't a character who shown up on screen I've forgotten or thought "nah, they're annoying, hope they die", no, quite the opposite. All of them were interesting, one way or another, everyone brought something to the story, and damn the voices are picked so good for the dialogues to sound natural, I can't say enough about it. Though then again, I was playing in Russian, and I don't know how it sounds in other languages. Visuals, well, the game is made on Unreal Engine 4, but with the people who knew what they were doing. Atomic Heart looks beautiful, and, what's more important, it holds up well on 144 FPS on the, what I'd call still medium system with Ryzen 5 5600 and 3070 RTX. Even during the action packed parts, I don't recall any major drops or freezes. Just stable 120+ FPS! Soundtrack I'd split in two parts. One part is original music, written from zero specifically for the game, and composers did well. Music suits the surroundings, the action, in other words, it always suits the vibe. But what about second part? Somehow, they have taken popular songs from Soviet Union, made covers for them AND IT GOT EVEN BETTER. Taking old songs, speeding them up, spicing with metal and releasing for the big combats and boss fights? I'll take two, thanks. No change required. Majority of these songs are now on my playlist. Also, for Doom fans - Mick Gordon was participating in composing music for the game. You can hear it too. I do see quite some reviews about annoying puzzles in the game and I kinda share that opinion, but probably not like the majority of people mean. I actually enjoyed almost all puzzles on the hidden testing grounds, that you are completing for unlocking additional parts of the weapons (and resourses along the way). They got nice music inside, the puzzles themselves are really not too hard. Just makes you think a little more than your average action-RPG-FPS. But, there are also LOCKS. Which are fine to see from time to time, but at some point you're getting tired of solving them. Fortunately, there is a special setting for autocompleting them, which I turned on, and I do recommend turning it on once you feeling annoyed by yet another locked door. DLCs are kinda fixing this issue by... just not having that many doors lmao. Speaking of DLCs. There are 4 of them available, and they're all (yes, even the Limbo one) are good, and actually following up on the story of the base game, which I won't tell how ends, go see for yourself! Just know that every DLC kinda takes away what you leveled in the base game and makes you level new things (which is fine, new toys are amazing anyway). Annihilation Instinct is the first one, and probably the darkest out of them all. It's short, keeps you engaged, shows you goose who curses you with each step taken lmao. But overall it gives you one new power to slow time, a spinny lance and a minigun. And you get to turn off the horny fridge. Well, kinda. That's not even spoiling anything. Trapped in Limbo is, I believe, the shortest one, but also the most hated one, due to how... different it is from the rest of the game. And it's true. It's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mashup of the mobile games with the surfing from Counter Strike. Is it fun? Well... it's the embodiment of the dreams with the temperature 39.7, but I definitely wouldn't call it bad. You just kinda need to get into the vibe. Though it also unveils some of the backstory of the protagonist and his wife. So I don't recommend skipping it. Enchantment Under the Sea was truly an enchantment and homage to Bioshock, as you are getting, well, you guessed it, under the sea! Albeit not in the city, but more of a scientific center. Either way, here you meet five (technically four, but one of them was kinda different in the Limbo DLC) more characters that are going to stick with you to the end of the game in the next DLC. You're also given two more new, IMO, coolest powers in the entire game, with one of them being hookshot, that allows you two pull yourself, or pull the enemy to you, or hook to the grapple points, and with leveling it up it also speeds you up, gives you damage boost, heals you, staggers enemy, makes you want to use it again and again. The other one is your ol' reliable fireball that you can turn into a fire ray that just gets bigger and hits harder. Still cool thing! Guns? How about new whip-hammer and a shotgun that granma gives you? That was all I used across the entire DLC and never needed anything else. Storywise - it's the direct continuation of the story of the base game, but I still recommend playing the other two DLCs first. Is it good? It's amazing. Blood on Crystal is a logical conclusion to the game, and it's straight up blast. Probably longer than everything above combined. And honestly it almost could have been it's own game, with how many things are unfolding here, how much characters are talking to each other, and with how much happening around. Unfortunately, this is the only DLC that doesn't give you new toys... well, it does, but also doesn't. It just gives you what you already used once, but with a little "umph" added to it, in a good manner of speech, of course. It also removed the ability to upgrade your abilities, which might look weird at first, but then you realise that you were already given good versions of the abilities. And, what's more important - they explain it lorewise, why you can't do this here. Which one is the best? Honestly, I can't really tell. They all bring something different, and it is all one big ongoing story, so it's up for you to decide. Though, I can tell, that in terms of dialogues - Enchantment Under the Sea easily became my favourite. So. Do I recommend it? Yes, absolutely. Is the game perfect? Close, but not really, there are some downsides to it, which I don't really want to cover, only because to me they were more like a temporary annoyances that are basically just small speedbumps on the way. Annoying, yes, but in a bigger picture, eh, I can overlook it. Is it worth the full price? Maybe? I got Ultimate Edition with a big discount, and I think it's worth it, I'd probably pay more, but not too much more. That would be all. Play good games, have fun out here!

    What looks like Bioshock set in Russia is exactly what this is, a shell of that game disguised to look like one. That`s about the only redeeming quality of the game. Setting is cool and story is somewhat interesting, but gameplay is just awful, combat even more so, the worst part of the game. Every enemy has attacks that knock you down, some don`t even have any different types of attacks so every time you get hit you get tossed around the area until either you or the enemy dies. Every enemy is a bullet sponge too, even on lowest difficulty, which makes this even worse as I just lowered it not to suffer, but nothing seems to change that. Campaign pacing is just terrible, unless you are doing all of the side activities the game has you can run through the story in a couple of hours. Open world is just pathetically bad, there are a couple of times when you can explore a bigger area, but they have infinitely respawning robots that can fix other robots making any kind of exploration a terrible idea. There are ways to bypass this later on with a certain weapon but that takes too long for it to be fun or viable. You probably know of the Twins since they were advertised heavily, and they are about the only interesting to look at characters, the rest is just forgettable and meaningless, no proper character introductions or reasons on why you should care about them, so you never do, thus making the story less appealing than it could`ve been. Few twists but nothing that makes it such a big deal, especially if you compare this to the characters in Bioshock. DLCs vary, 1st and 2nd story DLC add a couple of hours of story continuation with some new weapons and enemies in the mix, they aren`t terrible but they are super short overall. Then the platforming DLC from hell, which got it`s own review section and it`s not looking bright. Final DLC wraps up the campaign story after other DLCs and is required if you want to see the full game, but it`s dragging on for what feels like forever, multiple of the same boss fights in a row, with what feels like endless arenas of never ending sponge fest enemies is just not fun. Story is again decent in these and the only interesting part. Visually the more you play the more bland the whole thing looks, you see 1 dungeon and you`ve seen them all, the best looking areas are probably the `open world` parts, which have some nice architecture about. Enemy design is whatever, mutants look interesting, the base game robots are okay, then DLC enemies are just lazy, either copy pastes or just laziest design possible, like the polymer people in final DLC which are both ugly and horrible to fight. Overall this game is NOT worth the full asking price, it`s advertised as AAA price wise but this is barely AA quality. Super janky, super buggy, some parts don`t work unless you cap FPS to 30, the higher your frames in general the more you will get stuck in geometry, which in combat means death as there`s way too much clutter in areas you fight enemies in. Get it for a couple of bucks on sale if possible, otherwise just skip it, look at the videos of the Twins and call it a day.

    Nuclear Fart Man, If I had one word to describe this game - I'd call it - Ambitious There's so much in this game - its insane. It tries to be everything at once and while its REALLY fun - the first couple of hours - you'd be completely lost in all these mechanics and content So, lets dive deeper and find out why this game is awesome but most people tend to not talk about it Unreal Engine strikes again Whilst its not UE5, its UE4 and Shader Compilation Curse is standing strong here Get ready to wait or else the game gonna stutter hard And its gonna stutter anyway eventually because it need to contain all that data in memory As for the visuals - weird looking water, ghosting, badly implemented RTX, janky software RTX too (weird gun-only reflections on some surfaces) And overall mid looks It does give a decent picture here and there but eh - I dont like UE looks but hey, great optimisation anyway, they did what they could 🟢4/5 Soviet Wolfenstein The New Order Robots, collective mind, conspiracy, HUGE Lore Dump at the end (Resident Evil style), sci-fi I like this plot - its a very rich and a well written universe Nothing too special but still very interesting to immerse yourself into 🟢5/5 Too complex at the start Its NOT a first person shooter - its an immersive sim mostly Its basically Bioshock but harder (but not the levels of System Shock Hard) With Open World elements Crafting Perks to Upgrade VEHICLES?! PARKOUR?! Yeah, there's a lot - there's even stealth, melee combat system (janky, most recent UE games using that system, like God Of War, Callisto Protocol and Silent Hill2 Remake) So its getting a🟢 4/5 - because its really weird to play at the start - you just dont know where to start with all of this Also Hard Difficulty is Hard - but when you get better perks and weapons its gonna be smooth But then again - there are those weird Red Monsters that can softlock you hard because of the fire+polymer gimmick needed to kill them faster. Great level and enemy design, lots of soviet/russian music with remixes Everything gets a 🟢5/5 Robots are funny Zombies are a great addition Bosses are very memorable And characters - despite okay Russian Names - are pretty charismatic Replay Value - Perfect There's a lot of fun achivos, tons of collectables, hard difficulty is challenging but still fun And also different perks to make your own style of playthrough - its just that good 🟢5/5 Conclusion 🟢9/10 - Unreal Engine and Too Much Mechanics are a problem Its a very good game that was inspired by a lot of really good games - for better or worse But technical state is not very good and also the game requires your constant attention or else you're cooked 30-35 hours to beat on Hard, without collecting everything and without DLCs (yet)
