I think the Art direction and atmosphere are the majority of what carries this game to a Mostly Positive. The re imagining of Soviet Russia into a Bio-shock-esque wonderland is great and what carried me through the game where the dialogue, story, and repetitive game play tried to force me away (something, something, horny fridge). I got to the end due to sunk cost fallacy, but was a struggle for the last push. So credit where its due, but do not recommend.

Maybe my mind will change here, but as of right now, I spent money on this and haven't wanted to touch it since. I was playing and trudging along (spent hours stuck in a limbo of combat), thinking it will certainly get better eventually. Alas, no. I just could not get over how janky it is. I don't know if it was trying to do or be too many things at once, but there's a lot of QoL that's lacking and cheapens the experience. It's also wildly repetitive. It's fun to kill robots for a little while, but the decision to keep them repairing continuously, non-stop, and then letting the player know that sometimes it's better to not engage - what other option is there? There is no stealth. You cannot annihilate an area for some peace, because the repair bots are there before you even finished off the enemies. You fight, or you run until you are inundated with 50 enemies on you. You get mere seconds to enjoy the atmosphere and the cool world they built. There were definitely better ways to do this without making it feel like a never-ending nightmare. I just expected a cleaner experience with invigorating gameplay, driven by a story. The "dungeons"/bunkers for upgrades are tedious and so much of what you're doing, you'll do 10 more times in the next area. I love the idea of the world this is set in, I love the concept, and I love the look. Everything's really cool in that regard, but you get dropped in and feel like you must have missed something right out of the gate. Heck, the path forward 90% of the time involves jumping or dropping or maneuvering to an area that looks like it would be out of bounds, off limits, or not the intended pathway forward. Good games gently guide the player along a path, while finding ways to nudge them back to the correct path if they seem lost or are not progressing. Something like a companion or NPC making a radio call after 5 minutes reminding your objective, the player character remarking on what seems to be the way around an obstacle, or even some debris falling or something in the environment to help force a player to look at and consider a certain direction. If you play Atomic Heart, you'll see exactly what I mean. It's not about hand-holding, no one's asking for that. It's about game design. I intend to finish the game some day, and maybe my mind will change when I do, but as of right now, I haven't wanted to bother. TLDR; a great vision not fully realized. It works in some areas while under-serving anything but repetitive combat in most others. It sometimes feels as though one game was being developed, then scrapped for another while keeping a majority of the components of the original vision.

Enchantment Under the Sea

Atomic heart is a game with some great strengths and is at times quite a lot of fun... but it's also a game that feels frustratingly half-a$$ed and unfinished. Pros: The art and design of the world is great for the most part. The worldbuilding is well executed and most parts of the universe the game exists in feel very well thought out. Most of the gameplay is quite fun, although less so when you run into the less complete parts of the game. A lot of the voice actors do a really good job... with what they're given. Cons: Where to even begin, there's quite a lot wrong with the game. There's a reason all the pros came with a "but". The game contains a small amount of AI generated art in it, only like 0.01% of it but it's very baffling since the rest of the game looks so great and 2023 AI art is so obvious and crappy looking to boot. There's one mosaic texture you can see near the end of the opening section of the game that looks like complete garbage surrounded by beautifully handcrafted environments, who thought this was a good corner to cut? While the worldbuilding is good, the dialog goes from mediocre to downright bad. So overall the writing leaves a pretty bad impression. The main character spouts a lot of sarcastic tough guy talk but at the same time also whines like an annoying kid all the time in the dialog with other characters. Every robot character speaks in sexual innuendo constantly, especially annoying is the vending machine where you upgrade your weapons and craft things, it just never lets up. Even the worldbuilding isn't without flaws however because the creators of the game clearly had no love for the music of the 1950s so unlike in Fallout where all music fit a single era, in this game there's a quantum radio that plays music from "possible futures." leading to the game, the further it goes along being filled with more and more modern house music and stuff, not just in background music but even on location based radios and such. While there isn't that many female characters, all except Granny Zina (who is your classic babushka,) look extremely modern, nothing retro about them, not even the haircuts feel older than the last few years, very odd. The game being open world was clearly an afterthought. In the optional dungeons you can meet bosses before they are introduced in the main plot, yet the dialog about them is still there when you meet them in the main plot, not the first time you meet them. There's also a character that gets killed partway through the story and if you go to a part further back on the map you can still get radioed by him because you had yet to trigger that call. Some areas in the open world section feel strangely empty, like they placed the buildings and debris and such but didn't add any loot, lore, nor hardly even enemies. The optional dungeons have a lot of regular loot right at the start and then almost none besides the blueprints, (which are the reason you go there,) so there's not much encouragement to explore them even when they don't look completely linear which is a missed opportunity. Since there's zero lore stuff in the optional dungeons they don't really feel like they're a part of the world. Due mostly to the open world section the dosing out of worldbuilding/lore is really uneven, besides the optional dungeons having nothing at all, near the end of the game you get to an archive where you'll spend ages reading lore if you're interested, seems like it should have been sprinkled throughout the game more evenly. Parts of the game are pretty unbalanced like enemies that can mob up on you so you can't move, doesn't happen too often but always frustrating when it does. Bosses that can stun lock you and hit you multiple times in a row without you being able to heal or move in between, which is a big problem if a boss takes almost half your healthbar per hit. The environmental subtitling is hit or miss. If you only follow the main path pretty much everything has subtitles, signs and posters etc. everything except lyrics in background music or radio chatter, but that's just era flavor and insignificant anyways. But if you go into optional dungeons, good luck knowing what text is saying because some of them seem to not include any subtitles at all. And speaking of subtitles, during dialog the subtitles are timed to match the flow of the Russian voice actors not the English ones so sometimes the text is way too early or way too late to match what they are saying. But hey, I hear what you're saying, you know English fluently and the voice actors don't mumble, why would you need to read the subtitles? Well the game has this nasty habit of having things overlap, if you're speaking to your talking glove, that doesn't stop other characters or radios in the environment from speaking at the same time, the only thing that pauses is if you're listening to an audio log when the glove or some other story related dialog begins. One dream sequence has the "music" from the movie Annihilation in it, not really a negative, just odd. I only had a single crash which is a very small amount for an Unreal Engine game and the times getting truly stuck where ducking or dashing couldn't get me loose from level geometry was also just a single time. Yes, it was of course in one of those optional dungeons. There are two endings to the main game, all decided by a single choice near the end of the game which is pretty lazy in a game of this length. DLC 1 takes place after one ending while DLC 2, 3 and the upcoming 4th take place after the other. DLC 1 Annihilation Instinct: Doubles down on the sexual innuendo stuff by making the sexbot vending machine from the main game a main character in the story. The new BEA-D enemy is probably the worst one in the game, it's the enemy most likely to engulf you in bodies so that you're unable to move, which inevitably leads to death. Why? Because they always come in large numbers and unless you've injured them they'll always beeline it straight for you. It also features my least favorite boss of the game, and you fight it again in an even more annoying version later on too. It has both stun-locking-you-to-death attacks and swarmers that can lock you into place during its different stages. DLC 2 Trapped in Limbo: Complete garbage in my opinion. Barely a minute of fun to be had. I know there's an audience for this sort of surf platforming stuff, but how much of it overlaps with the audience that was interested in this game? My guess would be very little of it. A lot of people seem to complain about the crappy subway surfers segment near the end but really, is it actually any worse than what came before it? There's also some gimmicky boss and arena fights which are all bad. The main character starts off talking in grunts for a fair bit of the DLC, which would be an improvement, but these grunts have subtitles that represents real sentences, and they can happen during platforming segments, so good luck actually reading the subtitles, you'll most likely miss that half of any dialog going on. You'd think the never ending sexual innuendo would be absent from a story where you're stuck in candyland? You're right... BUT THINK AGAIN! The architecture includes boobs and vaginas and one of the music tracks include sexual moaning. DLC 3 Enchantment Under the Sea: Basically ditching everything I disliked about the game, or at least toning it all down. No open world stuff, good. Much less sex $hit, good. Bosses have a lot less attacks that feel unavoidable, good. While I don't think this aquatic theme is the most striking that this game has had, the gameplay is pretty much only the good parts without the bad, making this the most solid part of the entire game so far. Even the music ditches the bad house stuff and returns to mostly feeling old timey, especially when being part of the environment. DLC 4: Not out yet.

Yes, after playing 310 hours, I finally decided to write something; not a traditional review, but something. Though it has nothing to do with the time I spent playing, but the fact that Atomic Heart II was announced yesterday. Honestly, the deserved success of this game - which was the first game Mundfish has made - allowing the developers to create a sequel is pretty touching, knowing the difficulties they had to go through along the way. The misinformation, blind hate, xenophobia and entire smear campaigns aimed at the game and the developer team simply due to their ethnicity was very sad, even infuriating, personally. Despite all the hardships they were faced with, Atomic Heart rightfully took its place as a great game, and perhaps the best one I've played in years. It's not for everyone, I'll freely admit that. But damn was it exactly for me; not only thanks to the insanely fun and versatile gameplay mechanics, but due to the story, characters and world building containing certain aspects and cultural details which an Eastern European appreciates more. :))) All in all, I'm extremely grateful for the game and its continued support, - DLC 4 will certainly be a blast - and wish the best to the Mundfish devs in the next few years while they're making Atomic Heart II! Good luck guys!

Such a disappointment. The game starts off very very well, controls are good, weapons are fun to use, and an interesting upgrade system. (SPOILERS BELOW) However, once you escape the 1st area and get into the "open world" areas, the game takes a dive. Why? Infinitely (and quickly) respawning enemies. You destroy a camera, a flying robot comes to fix it. Same with enemies. It takes LITERALLY less than ONE second for the flying robots to come to rebuild the cameras you break down. If you kill the flying robots before they reach the cameras? THEY JUST KEEP RESPAWNING. They basically built a beautiful open area, THEORETICALLY inviting you to explore and roam, however made the game so hostile towards the player that you give up on exploring, the constant and nonstop respawning goes diametrically against the exploration and wandering around. You run out of patience, and avoid all other buildings (which contains blueprints) because the game makes its damnedest sure to make enemies annoying as possible, all the time, everywhere. After seeing the open world area, I would've preferred to be stuck in corridors in the complex, where there was no infinitely respawning enemies. And if the objetctive of this design is just to make you run away from everything....why have open areas in the first place? I think this is the first game I have ever played that is actively designed to make you NOT want to explore its world. And that's the worst part. IT was a great great game until it opened up. Such a downfall.

I finished the game with very mixed feelings. Atomic Heart is full of contradictions, which makes it hard to judge it in a clear, straightforward way. On the one hand, the design of the dungeons is genuinely strong. From the starting area to the testing grounds with their puzzles and the later story locations, the level design is interesting and engaging. I enjoyed going through them: there is a good variety of puzzles, enemies, and combat situations. On the other hand, all of these story locations and underground laboratories are connected by a very mediocre open world. It is not particularly memorable and mostly feels like a space you move through on your way to the actual content. If the open world were removed entirely, I honestly do not think much would change in terms of either gameplay or storytelling. The game also has excellent weapon, robot, and environment design. The atmosphere is detailed and impressive, and there are many moments where you just want to stop and look around. Some of the scenery is genuinely beautiful. At the same time, there is also a certain awkwardness to the whole experience. It often feels like different parts of the game were made without enough coordination. For example, the soundtrack is great, but there are moments when two dialogue sequences overlap, such as a conversation with a story character playing at the same time as an audio log. My biggest problem with the game, however, is its overall amount of content. Very early on, I got the feeling that there were not actually that many robot types or gameplay ideas in the game, and that impression stayed with me. The biggest surprise was realizing that I had completely finished the game in 27 hours. For a 60-dollar title, the gameplay side of it feels surprisingly small. The most disappointing part is the ending. The story does not actually conclude. It simply stops somewhere in the middle of the events. As far as I understand, to see the story through, you have to buy the second and third DLCs, and even the fourth one has not been released yet. In other words, you need several paid expansions just to get what feels like the full story. To sum it up, the game feels less like a complete standalone experience and more like several acts of a larger game sold separately. This is the first time I have seen DLC function not as extra content, but as a direct continuation that seems necessary just to finish the story. Because of that, I would not recommend buying it at full price. It may still be worth trying on a discount, but definitely not for 60 dollars.

I saw the trailer way back when. I thought it was awesome. I saw the reviews. It seems people like it, I played it myself. This game is... awful. Nothing is polished or feels good to do. The simple act of looting feels bad and the rewards from it are so homogeneous, they immediately feel so bland, None of the weapon upgrades I encountered felt impactful or interesting, I usually like stealth in games, but in this it felt like ♥♥♥♥ for so many reasons, The voice acting and the characters are absolutely atrocious, especially the main character and whatever that fridge is supposed to be, The yellow paint feels like such a clunky way to tell the player where they're supposed to go, Climbing poles and shimmying ledges feels slow and boring, The combat's serviceable at best, There were so many objects floating off the ground, phasing through walls, and other stuff like that, I have no idea how this game has as good of a score as it does. If there's one thing that I can praise the game for, it's the art direction. That's what pulled me in with the trailer and that's all it seems this game has going for it. Oh, and the trailer's music. My friend says the game's music is good? But maybe it's just so bogged down by the rest of the game's aspects that I can't even appreciate it for what it is. Also, softlocks. One happened pretty early on into the game and barely cost me any time. I wasn't planning on doing a second session, but I wanted to give the game another chance. And then after 30 minutes of gameplay, I got softlocked. Again. Just awful.

Man, I'm kind of sad about this game. I expected something a bit more engaging and less frustrating, but it really felt a lot different than I was expecting. I had pretty high hopes here. The beginning of the game really pulled me in. The art and graphics are incredible... huge shout out to the art team, because they nailed it. The premise of the story seemed pretty good at first too! I started to feel some bioshock vibes, but after exiting the first lab area, things really just got annoying. I gave this one an honest try and kept pushing on, but playing the game is just cumbersome. First off, this game is a puzzle game first and foremost. Combat definitely takes a back seat to the puzzles. This wouldn't bother me if the puzzles were interesting, but they're really not. A lot of the recycled puzzles where you're rotating a floor or room are just time sinks. It takes longer to get the puzzle set up than to just move through it. Half the time, there is some weird gap in the flooring that doesn't feel like it was meant to be where you fall down. It's not hard to solve, it's just annoying. The nail in the coffin for me was getting stuck for the 5th time in 10 hours and not being able to get unstuck. The way the save system works, it doesn't necessarily set you back far, but I was set back before one of the aforementioned crappy puzzles several times due to getting stuck on ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. Climbable walls, stairs, hand rails... you name it, I got stuck on it. Most of the time, I could dash my way out, but several times, I simply had to reload a save. Not to mention the climbing is janky as can be. Combat doesn't feel fun and snappy like Cyberpunk. Everything works, it's not terrible, but it's just not fun. Everything feels slow and clunky, and even when you get better, everything still feels like a chore. I feel like I was missing something and I probably am, but this seems like a common critique. Then, add on the fact that in the open world, enemies constantly get healed and respawned by the flying robots that you just feel like engaging the enemy is the worst way to play. You get swarmed and the more you kill, the more just respawn and overrun you. The beginning of the game before this happens is literally the best part. Main character is pretty cringy. Feels like a millennial edge lord wrote everything thinking "yeah what would sound the most BADASS for this guy to say while also making people laugh?" It just falls flat so much. The humor doesn't stick the landing and everything feels forced. Lastly, the dreaded open world scanning mechanic is here as well. Can't stand it anymore. I don't like viewing a game with such great artwork through the lens of a scanner looking for items or objectives I need. Could be worse for sure... I wouldn't have continued if it weren't for the art and environmental design, but frustration with everything else got the better of me. May pick it up later, but if I do, I'll follow a guide and try to find an OP build to breeze through it.

I have mixed feelings about this game. The biggest problem with the base game is definitely the combat. It throws tons of tanky, high-health enemies at you, but barely gives you any ammo. You’ve got all these guns in your inventory just sitting empty, you're forced to use melee weapons most of the time. (There's obviously a way around, if you know you know) Swarming robots + endless melee swinging quickly turned from fun into a repetitive, frustrating chore. If the combat was all it had, I would’ve dropped it, but the lore is so damn good that I pushed through just to see how the story ends. Now when it comes to DLCs. It's totally different. To be honest, I enjoyed DLC more than the main game. The devs pretty much fixed everything that annoyed me in the main game. You actually get plenty of ammo, awesome new weapons, and the whole gameplay loop feels way more chaotic and fun instead of a grind. Plus, the writing in the expansions is great—especially how they developed the backstory between the protagonist and his wife. Overall, despite the annoying combat in the main campaign, the incredible lore and top-tier DLCs make it an easy 7.5/10 for me.

Atomic Heart: A Wild Ride Through Soviet Robotics & One Horny Vending Machine This review is based purely on my experience with the main campaign. I don't own any of the DLCs yet. When I first started Atomic Heart, I immediately fell in love with its atmosphere. The sheer amount of attention to visual details, environments, architecture, machines, interiors, and that bizarre futuristic Soviet world had me wandering around like a tourist who had completely forgotten there was supposed to be a game happening. And then the combat started. My character started moving around at high speed, enemies started throwing everything they had at me, the camera was shaking, and my stomach basically filed for divorce. I was getting extreme motion sickness, especially during hectic fights. After digging through the settings, I ended up reducing the camera shake to an extremely low value, around 0.2, and changed the FOV to 95. That made a huge difference for me and made the game much more comfortable to play. Once I got that sorted, I could properly appreciate what Atomic Heart does best. 🎨 The Atmosphere Is the Real Star For me, the game's visuals, atmosphere, ambience, and environmental design are far more memorable than either its narrative or combat. This futuristic Soviet setting is absolutely bonkers in the best possible way. There is always something interesting to look at, from giant structures and machines to tiny environmental details. The world feels deliberately designed rather than just being a collection of corridors waiting for the next firefight. And this game turned out to be an absolute playground for screenshots. I started getting into panoramic screenshots a few months back, and Atomic Heart has been one of the most enjoyable games I've used for them. The in-game photo mode is fantastic for this, especially because it lets you capture screenshots at up to 4K, regardless of the actual display resolution. So while everyone else was busy fighting robots, I was frequently standing around thinking: "Hang on, this would make a great panoramic screenshot." 📸 I spent a ridiculous amount of time admiring the environments and capturing screenshots. Honestly, some of my favorite moments in this game involved absolutely no combat whatsoever. 🧠 The Story: Perfectly Serviceable The narrative was pretty passable for me. It had its fun moments, although it wasn't really the main reason I kept playing. What I did really enjoy was the game's main protagonist P-3's interaction with the various bots throughout the game, particularly his conversations with his personal AI companion CHAR-les and, of course, the magnificently horny vending machine NORA. Yes. The vending machine. And somehow, that's not even the strangest thing you'll encounter here. Crispy Critters! There are also some entertaining encounters along the way, including Granny Zina, who definitely leaves an impression. The game has two endings, and both felt a little abrupt to me, leaving me wondering if some of these story threads are meant to be picked up in the Story DLCs. I guess I'll have to get them eventually and pay a visit to Facility 3826 again... someday! 🔫 The Gameplay: A Little Bit of Everything The gameplay feels like it takes inspiration from a whole buffet of FPS games, throws the ingredients into a blender, and then serves the result with a Soviet robot on top. Most encounters involve fighting various types and sizes of robots, with the occasional biological enemy thrown into the mix. There are plenty of weapons, abilities, upgrades, and skills available, so there is quite a bit of room to experiment. Personally, I mostly stuck to the basic stuff. Whenever things got particularly crowded, during special encounters, or in boss fights, I'd start experimenting with the other weapons and abilities available. But for the majority of the campaign, I didn't feel the need to use every tool in the toolbox. Overall, the gameplay was very serviceable for me. It did the job, even if it wasn't the part of Atomic Heart that impressed me the most. One gameplay feature I absolutely loved, though, was P-3's ability to simply flick his hand and send nearby items hurling toward him. Ammo? Yoink. Collectible hiding under a desk? Yoink. Something sitting inside a drawer? Yoink. Item hiding behind a box or dead enemies? YOINK. Suddenly the entire room is feeding me supplies. This is one of those small quality-of-life features that makes looting so much less tedious. There is no need to manually open every single drawer, box, cabinet, and random container just in case somebody left three bullets inside it. Just flick your hand and vacuum the place clean. 🔊 Sound Design The sound design was good as well. The weapons, machines, environments, and general ambience all helped sell the strange world the game was trying to create. Nothing particularly jumped out at me as a major weakness here. ⚙️ Performance & Storage Performance was generally fine for me, although I did encounter occasional dips. I also believe Denuvo was removed at some point, and the game seemed to perform better afterward, although I can't say that with absolute certainty. The bigger eyebrow-raiser for me is the installation size. The base game alone is around 157 GB on my system, despite me not owning any of the DLCs. That is a lot of Soviet machinery occupying my SSD. It also makes me wonder whether DLC content is included in the overall download even if you don't own it, because the size feels enormous for the base game alone. Either way, I think Atomic Heart could definitely benefit from better optimization, both in terms of performance and overall installation size. 🧪 Final Verdict: 8/10 Atomic Heart is a strange game. Its combat didn't exactly sweep me off my feet, the narrative was mostly passable, and I had to wrestle with motion sickness before I could comfortably enjoy the gameplay. But the world itself? That's where the game got me. The visuals, atmosphere, ambience, environmental detail, futuristic Soviet aesthetic, bizarre characters, and sheer amount of interesting stuff to look at kept pulling me in. And once I discovered how much I enjoyed exploring these environments, I probably spent even more time sightseeing than the developers intended. I came for the robots. I stayed for the scenery. And occasionally got distracted by a horny vending machine. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3767095168 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3777088533 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3765994635

😊Подписывайтесь на Кураторку: store.steampowered.com/curator/37365104

The setting and art design are very nice but the gameplay largely feels like a chore and the story isn't super engaging. Combat isn't very fun and I found myself wishing I could bypass encounters, which is never a good sign. The game spends the first 6 hours teaching you to clear out enemies and destroy enemy spawn points so you can take your time to solve puzzles and scour every nook and cranny for resources. But then in the next portion it throws you out in the open with constantly spawning enemies and no way to destroy the spawn points, so why did it spend the last 6 hours teaching us to destroy the spawn points? So now there's no breathing room to solve puzzles or look for resources and the combat quickly shifts from an inconvenient chore to a sloggy frustration. The dialogue makes mention of "using stealth" to get around that area, but there aren't any stealth mechanics so it's a very puzzling inclusion. At this point I just gave up on the game because I couldn't figure out what to do and wasn't having any fun.

I wanted to like Atomic Heart a lot more than I did. On paper "Soviet Bioshock" sounds exactly like the kind of thing I'd be all over, but after around 7 hours of bouncing off and back onto the game when I finally reach the point where the world begins to open up, I was already bored to death. Atomic Heart so desperately wants to be Bioshock, but doesn't seem to understand why Bioshock worked. Rapture had scale, intrigue, and atmosphere. Neo-Soviet Russia has non-talking robots, non-talking plants, and flat dialogue between your talking glove and your snarky babbling protag. Hell at the point where I stopped properly, I bump into some guy from the prologue who immediately ditches me after a train crash and I'm left there trying to remember why I should care about that guy rather than wondering what happens next. The characters just do not land. They're constantly talking around each other rather than to each other. The VA's rarely sell the drama or the tension that the script seems to be asking for. The glove is no Fontaine, Granny is no Tenenbaum and the setting is no Rapture. Then when the game finally opens up and lets me loose, I have no desire to explore because clearing an area felt pointless when drones could start repairing everything immediately. Why explore, loot, or fight properly if the reward is just getting bogged down in more dull combat against enemies that are going to come back anyway. Might as well just speed blitz it to the next marker that's always glowing on my HUD. It's telling that despite making the world much bigger, the very first thing the game shows you how to do is how to activate Batman vision because the world clutter makes it hard for you to even see what's worth looking for most of the time. There's some interesting ideas here, the art is nice and the premise is strong, but the writing, pacing and characters are just not there to make me want to go through the story, and the world design does not make me want to play for the gameplay.

Awesome idea, awesome world, awesome graphics, and much more. Atomic Heart has a lot going for it. The setting is genuinely interesting, the visuals are fantastic, and even the story had a lot of potential. And that's probably what makes my experience with the game so frustrating. I actually found the story interesting. There were a lot of things I wanted to know more about, but the way the story was presented to the player often felt too vague and fragmented. Important information was scattered around, hinted at, or buried in conversations and logs, and I often felt like I was missing pieces of the bigger picture. The story itself was cool, but I don't think it was presented in a way that made me care about it as much as I could have. The biggest problem for me was the repetitiveness. After a while, it felt like I was doing the same things over and over again, and it completely killed my motivation to keep playing. What started as an interesting and exciting experience eventually became a chore. The soundtrack didn't help either. It was all over the place. One moment it's a beautiful russian lullaby, then some classic Soviet music, and suddenly there's D&B or hard rock blasting in the background. Don't get me wrong, some of those tracks were absolute bangers, but they often felt completely out of place. Instead of enhancing the atmosphere, they sometimes completely killed the immersion. It's a shame, because there's a really cool game buried underneath all of this. The world, art direction, graphics, and overall concept are genuinely awesome. But for me, the repetitive gameplay eventually outweighed all of those positives. I really wanted to like this game, but by the end, I was just glad it was over.

It's ok. Fits right in with Bioshock or Halflife in presentation. Lots of little flaws, odd glitches that don't usually show up in a well polished game. The world is interesting, but the characters and general plot is wholly uninteresting. The main character (you) are not all that likeable and Char-les is almost without a personality, almost. The game has really weird audio, especially scripted scenes, they're missing really obvious audio. Like there is a scene in a elevator that gives out while you're in it. You fall hundreds of feel in this steel and glass box to a hard concrete bottom. You never hear glass smash, nor the specific sounds of metal warping and bending from force. Ambience, game music and character dialogue is all you get. ANother scene with a giant mechanical robot busting through the walls of an underground base, from underground, no grinding mechanical gears, no heavy muffled soil sounds or the heavy sound of stone/concrete. The world just feels strangely empty because of it and I found it really detracted from these 'big' moments. Combat is mostly fun, upgrading weapons mostly feels rewarding. Resources are extremely scarce, or I should say you need ridiculous amounts of resources for everything. The game does have a 100% refund of materials though if you unmake something, so you can withdraw resources from a gun you are maybe getting rid of for a new weapon and then put the materials there. Ok I guess, I prefer just maxing out everything but that's another option I suppose. My break point though was, i think, about midway through the game. When they introduce elemental enemies with a boss called "Ivy". It's a terrible boss fight with virtually unlimited health and a QTE button response instant kill move, you miss the random key and you gameover. No second chances. So far that's killed me everytime. I just gave up, I'm not having a great time anyway, the whole thing feels 'just' this side of a quality product. I'm glad I got this on sale, like $17 USD. It was worth $20, I think. I got about 8 hours of ok fun from it, that's not bad, but I don't recommend this. No. Go get Black Mesa or any of the Bioshock games. They do this better.
