"Why are we still here? Just to suffer?" That line from Kazuhira Miller doesn't just serve as a meme—it's a thesis. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is less a game and more a controlled fracture. A design marvel wrapped in themes of absence, identity, and the illusion of control. It throws you into vast, living environments—Afghanistan and Africa—that breathe with day-night cycles, dynamic weather, and AI that adapts to your tactics. Start using too many headshots? They'll wear helmets. Prefer night infiltration? They'll bring flashlights. The world watches and adjusts. Mechanically, it's one of the best stealth-action sandboxes ever created. Movement is fluid, aiming is responsive, and nearly every approach to a mission is valid—stealth, assault, distraction, manipulation. Even something as ridiculous as Fultoning a bear becomes part of the plan. Everything ties back to Mother Base—your expanding home, your personal army. Every soldier you extract, every resource you capture, isn't just flavor—they matter. There’s an odd satisfaction in watching your FOB grow, in listening to recruited enemies now call you “Boss.” And yet, for all its systems and mechanics, the soul of MGSV is quieter, more fractured. The narrative is disjointed by design. Kojima leans into what’s missing. Scenes unfold in cassette tapes. Conversations happen in shadows. You’re not just Big Boss—you’re a symbol. Or maybe an echo. The game never gives you full answers because it’s about loss, not closure. Chapter 2 is divisive: some call it unfinished; others see it as the point. You become a ghost haunted by the choices of others. You don’t get a real ending—because legends don’t. Graphically, the Fox Engine still holds up. The lighting, the facial expressions, the terrain—they all feel real. The soundtrack is perfectly curated: "Sins of the Father," "Nuclear," and a sprinkle of 80s classics like "The Final Countdown" and "Take On Me" don’t just fill space—they frame it. And then there’s Quiet’s theme—absolutely devastating once context settles in. Yes, it has flaws. Mission 51 is cut. Some missions in the second chapter are recycled. Microtransactions for FOBs feel like a publisher’s fingerprint on an otherwise deeply personal project. And Quiet’s design is… well, complicated. But none of it undoes the weight of the experience. “You’re going to have to choose. Whether to live as a man… or as a legend.” MGSV doesn’t guide you toward that choice—it traps you inside it. You play for 80, 100, 150 hours, building a legend. And in the end, it hands you a mirror. It’s not perfect. It’s better. It’s honest. And it stays with you long after you uninstall it.

"Man does not live in a country, he lives inside a language... Do not be mistaken, the fatherland is language and nothing else." - Emil Cioran. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is a game of profound, haunting contradictions. It is simultaneously the most mechanically perfect and the most narratively fractured entry in Hideo Kojima's legendary saga. It presents a philosophical ghost story about identity, language, and the cycle of vengeance, wrapped in the greatest sandbox infiltration gameplay ever created. https://youtu.be/y0EYMrPbkRs The game’s genius lies in its unparalleled, systemic gameplay freedom. Afghanistan and Africa are not just maps; they are vast, reactive playgrounds. Every mission is a complex puzzle with a thousand solutions. Will you approach at night with a silenced tranq pistol, fulton enemies to build your private army, call in an airstrike, or use a decoy to create a distraction? The tools are endless, and the game empowers you to be truly creative. The Mother Base management is addictive, turning every captured soldier and resource into a tangible piece of your growing, silent empire. Yet, this brilliant gameplay chassis carries a story that feels, appropriately, like a phantom limb. The narrative is hauntingly sparse and frustratingly incomplete. Key themes- the loss of identity, the manipulation through language, the birth of a legend from a lie- are presented with powerful subtlety (the iconic "You're talking to yourself!" line, the vocal cord parasites) but the plot itself is skeletal, with crucial arcs truncated and relegated to cassette tapes. The infamous Chapter 2, padded with repetitive "hard mode" missions, undermines its own poignant themes of cyclical, meaningless conflict. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3616465336 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3624505610 Metal Gear Solid V is a game where silence speaks louder than words, and the narrative's emptiness becomes its greatest strength. Through its unfinished storylines and fragmented cassette tapes, Kojima crafts a piercing parable about the illusion of revenge and the nature of legend - all wrapped in flawless gameplay where every silenced shot becomes a philosophical statement.

There's a reason more than ten years after it's release Metal Gear Solid V is the title with most active players out of the entire series, Having played each title since Metal Gear Solid in 1998 I can assure you: this is the ultimate MGS experience. There is no stealth game quite like this one, every aspect of this game is superb: the missions, the open world, the AI, the story, the music, and gameplay, and how it plays with your emotions. There hasn't been a better game made in this genre yet, I would dare call this a perfect game.

Fun fact, this was the first ever Metal Gear game I ever played back when it released back in 2015. I was 15 when it came out and I remember being absolutely fckn CLUELESS about what was going on around me. I ran around and played through this game and loved everything about it really, the gameplay had me hooked! While all my friends were playing call of duty and battlefield I was sat in my room running around as a one eyed man with a metal arm. Flash forward to today, I'm 25 years old and finally decided to sit down and do a deep dive into the full series..EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM! I spent the last 3 months playing every single game from start to finish, emulating the ones I couldn't get my hands on. I just wanna say how angry I am that I missed out on all of this masterpiece of a story for this many years. Hideo Kojima is a gem of a developer and it's so beyond sad to see what happened to this franchise because of the drama with konami. Drama aside I think this game did an absolutely wonderful job with what It could! It has been one hell of a ride and it's safe to say that I'm now a fan for life! It was also a bonus this time around knowing I was playing as venom snake, and understanding who Ocelot and Kaz were...rather then "solid Snake" with an eye patch and metal arm, with his strange friends blonde cowboy and soldier with glasses. And remember guys, while we may be here just to suffer, Quiet will always be around..so there's that;)

Don't get me wrong, the story sucks ass. Typical overblown convoluted Kojima nonsense. But from a pure gameplay experience, its the best I've played in 15 years. The freedom to approach every mission in any way you see fit is still unparalleled.

The Fixes & Enhancements This is a fun game, no doubt about it, but it has a lot of systems that waste time. I don’t have much time for gaming, and for me, gaming should be fun, not feel like a second job. That’s why I use these mods, to cut out the tedious stuff and spend more time actually playing. I understand that the timers add realism and make sense, especially for Base and Weapon Development. I respect the design choice, it’s just not for me. If I wanted that level of realism and waiting, I’d go outside. These mods simply let me enjoy the game without turning it into a chore. Quiet In Millitary Uniform https://www.nexusmods.com/metalgearsolidvtpp/mods/1211 I love looking at delicious-looking female mammary glands and their soft, supple buttocks, and I’ll ogle at them whenever I get the chance. But there is a time and place for everything. Just because Kojima got horny midway through development doesn’t mean I need them shoved in my face all the damn time. I’m perfectly capable of appreciating the eye candy, but when it becomes constant and intrusive, it starts getting annoying rather than appealing. 2. Buddy Bond Menu https://www.nexusmods.com/metalgearsolidvtpp/mods/2312 New Game+ Quick Start (Skip Prologue Mission) https://www.nexusmods.com/metalgearsolidvtpp/mods/882 What I Think A magnificent game, truly, right up until the end of Chapter 1. Then the dogfeces emerges from the kitchen and we are expected to dine upon it as though it were a delicacy. Chapter 2 is a fecal remix of missions we already endured, reheated and made more brain damaged for sweaty bassturds with apparently neither employment nor a social life. My advice is simple: Play until the end of Chapter 1 and then fahking stop. Do the side ops and assorted shii, then watch the remaining story cutscenes on YouTube. Let some poor bassturd endure the fecal pageantry of Chapter 2 while you sit comfortably in your drawing room, sipping tea. Chapter 1 is the game. Chapter 2 is the punishment for having enjoyed it. I absolutely fahking love this game. It is beautiful not just in graphics, but in gameplay and controls. When I first played it on PS3 during my unfortunate console peasant days, I was enamored with the presentation, buttery smooth controls, incredible gameplay, and the whole damn package. I had previously played Peace Walker, my first MGS game, and could not understand how the fahh they made it work so well on that fahh of a handheld with its faahking missing right analog stick. Yet those magnificent bassturds pulled it off. Going from Peace Walker to this was mindblowing. The controls are so damn smooth that it is almost obscene, and I enjoyed it so much on PS3 that I eventually bought the whole damn package again on PC. Then there is the sense of heroism, which I absolutely fahking love. You don't feel like some random rando in the crowd. You feel important. You rise from Hero to fahking Legend, your reputation spreads, and eventually everyone fahking knows you. Your soldiers respect you, enemy soldiers respect you, and your staff thank you for everything from rescuing animals to getting the snot beaten out of them with CQC at Mother Base. They salute you, Staff Morale increases when they see you, and when you leave Mother Base they all stand at attention and salute, making you feel like the absolute fahking king you are. It is wonderfully ridiculous, but the game sells the fantasy so damn well that you buy into it completely. You aren't merely playing a soldier. You are their Boss. Their hero. Their legend. The Fulton system is so damn funny and fun that it is frankly fahking absurd. Watching some grown ahh soldier get attached to a balloon and peacefully whisked into the heavens like a military sponsored birthday decoration never gets old. Meanwhile, all these returded games with their feces riddled moral choices can shove their philosophical navel gazing up their collective ahh. The MGS team understood something many developers have forgotten: nobody gives a turd about your moral choice system if it isn't fun. Players are selfish little bassturds. We care about what benefits us, what is fun, and what gives us useful shii. I don't spare some poor bassturd because I've discovered my inner pacifist. Fahk no. I need the stupid fahk working at my base instead of the enemy's, so I spare the fahker and Fulton the bassturd straight back to Mother Base. Problem solved. Morality has been replaced by fahking logistics. The game doesn't need to tell me killing is wrong. It simply gives me a practical reason not to kill him: he's more useful alive. Who the fahk would have thought the selfishness of players in a fake video game world could be understood so accurately? I don't spare soldiers because I'm a saint. I spare them because I need their stupid ahh working for me. The characters are also fahking interesting, wonderfully quirky, and absolutely bonkers. I love every one of these lunatics. They're so memorable that I actually went and read the whole fahking MGS story because of them. That shii is crazy, with enough twists and bullshii to make a respectable aristocrat choke on his tea. Somehow, against all reason, it fahking works. Absolutely magnificent. Utterly deranged. Five fahking stars. Then comes Chapter 2. Absolute fahking dog feces. I quit at that Backup, Back Down remix because the whole thing is so damn poopy, and by then it becomes obvious that the game was gutted. Perhaps there is one silver lining. The MGS series is no more, and maybe that's ultimately a good thing because, gentlemen, this game can never be fahking topped. This is the only stealth game I find this much fun. Everything else feels like dogturds served on a silver fahking platter. Play this game and you'll realise just how insanely fun stealth can be when made by an actual team of game developers, rather than a committee of turd eating morons.

An Unfinished Game, but so good you can't rate down Rating: 9/10 For a long time, I was looking for games similar to Wildlands. I love that one. Now, I regret why I didn't play this before. It's been in my library since years and always ignored, among 100s of other. For a open world game released in 2015, its graphics still hold up to my standards. Unlike modern slop games, this game runs fantastic even on old 1060. Game is capped @60 FPS, but you can easily overcome with LS Frame Generation or mods. They totally nailed the gameplay aspect of this game, reminds me of Wildlands but only more tactical. Like, your suppressors break after a limited use. You can silently interrogate enemies for information. You can blend in your environment with cartoons, camo dress, sandstorm, etc. If you approach in stealth, you can't rely on mindless shootings like we do in other games lol. You have to engage your mind. Now don't get the idea that this game is realistic, cuz it isn't. It's just fun. If you fail stealth? You can always resort to violence and it's legit fun. They nailed shooting mechanics too. In fact, its faster and more efficient lol. But enemies adapt to you. Use too much combat? You'll see more armors. Use too much sniper, you'll face more sniper. So on. It's open world and there are a number of ways you can deal with an enemy. It's up to you. Bombard them with heli, order your pet or buddy, maybe one man army?.. you can. Game is sci-fi. You can imagine the rest. BUT it's not all roses and sunshine. While the actual cutscenes and story in general is great, they completely broke the immersion after Mission 31 (Chapter 1). They mindlessly 1:1 copied many story missions with same cutscene but different difficulty or parameters and it truely hurts. It was like a joke. Like preparing a delicate art after spending several days and then just randomly throwing it in waters. I have never seen any game as badly rushed in other half. There are total 50 missions so you can imagine how many levels they make you play again just for sake of completion. Game is way better off without them, LITERALLY. Plus, to understand the part of story and its logic, you need to listen several audio logs. Now, that was a real torture too. I know it's optional, but I don't want to torture myself to understand them lol. Make less of these please. SEVERAL HOURS of my steam playtime with unncessary GPU load and torture is bcuz of those tapes! After every mission, you will see mini credits screen mentioning Kojima lmao. Yeah the guy is legend but don't overdo it. But the worst part of this game has to be the ending. IT IS AN UNFINISHED GAME. PLEASE DON'T BELIEVE OTHERWISE. EVEN KOJIMA RECOGNISE THIS. It is very unsatisfying ending. Plus these repetitive missions break the immersion so much that it only amplifies that. No, it did not feel like prep for new entry. It just felt unfinished to me and I guess most players out there too. But the core game is so good that EVERYONE COMMENDS THIS. Just make sure to play Ground Zero first as it's a 1 mission banger prologue.

MGSV - A Requiem for a Legend We need to address the heavy heart in the room before we even talk about gameplay. The Phantom Pain isn’t just a game, it is a monument, a farewell, and a beautiful, fractured masterpiece. It is the final Metal Gear Solid project helmed by Hideo Kojima, and let’s be brutally honest, there is no Metal Gear Solid without him. Playing this today, knowing it was the end of that specific, brilliant era, feels like reading a final letter from a mentor. It is a haunting experience, a game that leaves you feeling empty, inspired, and deeply nostalgic all at once. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3763118224 The Sandbox of Our Dreams If you want to talk about raw mechanics, The Phantom Pain is untouchable. It is, quite simply, the greatest stealth-action game ever conceived. The level of player agency here is terrifying, it gives you a massive, open sandbox in Afghanistan or the Angola-Zaire border, drops you in with a pile of gear, and essentially says, "Figure it out." Whether you want to be a ghost, a tactical mastermind, or a loud, reckless agent of chaos, the game supports you with a level of systems-driven depth that modern games are still struggling to copy. The way the AI adapts to your playstyle is genius. If you start headshotting everyone at night, they’ll start wearing helmets. If you keep using smoke grenades, they’ll equip gas masks. It forces you to evolve, to be creative, and to treat every infiltration like a high-stakes puzzle. It’s an intoxicating loop of planning, execution, and that glorious moment when the plan falls apart and you have to improvise your way out of certain death. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1305155891 A Narrative of Loss and Silence The story of The Phantom Pain is, much like its protagonist Venom Snake, a ghost. It isn't a loud, exposition-heavy blockbuster like MGS4. Instead, it’s a quiet, introspective journey into trauma, language, and revenge. It’s a tragedy written in silence. Some people complain about the "gaps" in the narrative or the feeling that it was left unfinished, but I think that was always the point. The game is literally called The Phantom Pain. It’s about the things that are missing, the friends we lost, the limbs we sacrificed, and the legacy that ended too soon. When you listen to the cassette tapes, when you walk through the sterile, industrial halls of Mother Base, you feel the weight of every choice. It is a lonely, melancholic, and deeply profound experience that stays with you long after the final mission ends. It doesn't give you easy answers; it leaves you with scars. Mother Base - The Heart of the Beast Managing Mother Base is a meta-game that could have been a standalone title. Watching your private army grow from a handful of loyalists into a global superpower is an emotional investment. Every soldier you fulton out of the field isn't just a number, they are a recruit you saved, someone who now owes you their life. When things go wrong, or when you’re forced to face the harsh realities of your mission, it hurts. You aren't just playing a soldier, you are the Commander, the Big Boss, the man who lost everything. The bond you feel with your staff, with D-Dog, and even with the crumbling foundations of your own organization is a testament to Kojima’s ability to make us care about the mundane. Pros: Mechanical Perfection: The controls are buttery smooth, and the "freedom of choice" in how you approach missions is unparalleled. Masterful Atmosphere: The desert sunsets, the rain-slicked bases, and the lonely, haunting score create an atmosphere that feels truly heavy and lived-in. The Mother Base Loop: The addictive nature of recruiting, upgrading, and expanding your own private military is a stroke of pure genius. Venom Snake: A protagonist who speaks very little but expresses everything through his eyes. A truly unique character study. Cons: Narrative Closure: The "missing" pieces of the story can feel frustrating if you’re looking for a neat, wrapped-up conclusion to the entire Metal Gear saga. Repetitive Side Ops: Some of the smaller, procedural side missions can feel a bit repetitive after you’ve cleared the main objectives. The "Kojima Void": The lingering realization that this is the last of his vision for the franchise is a weight that never really goes away. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3738024030 Verdict METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN is a flawed, brilliant, and deeply emotional farewell. It is the pinnacle of the stealth genre, a game that pushes the boundaries of what a player can do in a virtual space. But more than that, it is a goodbye. It’s a testament to a visionary who dared to make games that weren't just "content," but pieces of art that challenged our morality and our understanding of heroism. We will never see another Metal Gear like this because we will never see another project lead by Hideo Kojima in this universe again. It’s a phantom limb, you feel the ache of its absence, but you cherish the memory of what it was. Do you ever find yourself just standing in the middle of the desert, looking at the stars, and realizing how much this journey meant to you?

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is a bizarre game to try and talk about because it sits at a particularly awkward crossroads. It is arguably one of the best games of the 2010s, taking the exploding genre of open world games and cracking it open by offering players extreme freedom in the way they tackle tightly-designed missions. This push and pull between developer intention and player choice could have easily been a tension point, but ultimately works because a player’s ability to complete a level is entirely based on their own resourcefulness and creativity. Within a player’s toolkit are nearly infinite ways to complete their mission objective, with the player only being limited by the tools they have on-hand or intrinsic objectives such as high mission rankings or a desired low kill-count. These are all great attributes and are a huge part of why MGSV is hailed today as a masterpiece. The issue with that framing is that MGSV doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Kojima’s Metal Gear is perhaps the single most-revered game series in existence, with each one being hailed as a masterpiece of gameplay, storytelling, and technical achievement. As impressive as MGSV is, it is directly competing with its predecessors, and the comparison is not particularly flattering. As fun, slick, and rewarding as its action is, the game’s storytelling and pacing ultimately disrupt that experience in a way the game never really manages to outrun. The game is ultimately paced to have two distinct arcs, with one being the effective “main” conflict and the second arc laying the groundwork for how MGSV connects to the rest of the Metal Gear franchise. Of these two arcs, the first is by far the most-interesting, containing 32 episodes with the majority of them containing important story content. While most of these missions are excellent, some really fall short of expectations, leading to a few duds in an otherwise excellent list. And, honestly, if you wanted to check out after Mission 31, I don’t think I would blame you. Most of the story of MGSV is, perhaps intentionally, disjointed, hazy, and dreamlike, intentionally setting up conflicts that connect to the rest of the series. These are largely presented in the form of Mother Base cutscenes, forming a clear and present disconnect between the gameplay and story that the game never manages to shake. Perhaps the game’s biggest sin is that it’s simply meandering and filled with padding. Out of the 51 missions (prologue included) present in the main game, 24, by my count, are either challenge missions with specific restrictions in-play, or are completely unrelated to the game’s story and are largely disposable. Most of these missions exist after the conclusion of the first arc; another reason the second arc manages to fall so flat. Of the 19 missions present in the second arc, 15 are of this type, leading to an abysmal 4 main story missions past Mission 31. And, of these 4, one is a partner mission and another is a repeat of a previous mission, just with extra story context added in. This is a huge part of why the back half of the game feels so empty and underwhelming: because nothing you do makes a difference. Much of this is also because the game’s actual conclusion, Mission 51, was never properly finished. There’s a lot of documentation out there online about it, and I would encourage you to check it out if you’re left wanting more after Mission 48. Based on unfinished cutscenes and concept art, it probably would have been the game’s best mission, and I doubt it would have left fans disappointed. But even among many of these complaints, I actually have quite a few positive things to say about the game’s story and presentation. I might be alone in thinking this, but I REALLY enjoy MGSV’s codec tapes. The game has a TON of extra context and information contained in tapes players unlock as they progress through missions. Most of these are either designed to further elaborate on cryptic elements of the main game or provide historical context for the larger story, but some of them are also there just as fun side-stories that play out on Mother Base. Of these, my favorite has to be “The Hamburgers of Kazuhira Miller,” which unironically got me to really appreciate fast food burgers. If you can sit through that and not crave a Bic Mac, you are stronger than I am. That said, none of these tapes are necessary for story purposes and you can just as easily ignore them. Perhaps the most-interesting and important tapes are “The Truth” tapes found right at the end of the game. If you’re interested in what happened to the main cast of Snake Eater following MGS Ground Zeroes, they’re worth a listen. I also really enjoy how much side content the game has. The game has 157 Side-Ops, most of which are simple side-missions that can be done in the open world. Most of these showcase MGSV at their best, with specific small goals in play that players can attack in any way they want without having to worry about score or rank. There are plenty of duds in this selection, but the vast majority are pretty engaging, with missions like “Eliminate the Armored Vehicle Unit” and “Extract the Highly Skilled Soldier” taking up much of the list. As interesting as side content is in the main world, some of the most-interesting content available takes place on your iDroid. The game has a particularly engaging system of progression, where you work to grow Mother Base and even online content where you can compete to infiltrate each-others bases. I’m not personally that interested in MGSV’s online side, but it can be a huge draw for extending playtime. I know a few people that have put more hours into the game’s online content than the main game, so it’s definitely worth a look. I want to maintain that MGSV is still one of the best games of its time and absolutely worth a playthrough. But I also want to point out the game’s failures, as I don’t think it is as easy to recommend as many of its series predecessors. If the lack of a solid conclusion to its story and overall emphasis on freedom sound like potential deal-breakers for you, I’m not sure you should bother. Still, even with all its shortcomings, I think MGSV earns its title as a Metal Gear Solid game. It’s not a perfect entry, but it’s a brilliant action game that manages to brilliantly balance an intricately crafted world with deep and rewarding gameplay.

"Boss, you killed a child? Amazing mission complete! That right there is why you're the best Boss. The one and only!" Metal Gear Solid V is a game that somehow manages to be both a deeply serious war drama and one of the most absurd sandboxes ever designed, where every stupid thing you do becomes a legend. And that contrast is exactly why it works. I already knew the franchise, and I actually tried MGSV for the first time about eight years ago. And I dropped it, probably too early. Back then, all I really absorbed were the memes and the confusing revelation that more than one Snake exists. Only after finishing Death Stranding recently did I feel the urge to return to MGSV, and I’m glad I did. Gameplay What makes MGSV exceptional is its sandbox design - a stealth-sandbox hybrid unlike anything I’d played before. Missions can be approached from countless angles. The game just hands you a toolbox and says: "Figure it out". It reminded me of Death Stranding in that sense: the joy of pure autonomy, where every victory feels earned, and every failure becomes your own story. One of MGSV’s most brilliant achievements is how its anti-war message is expressed not just in dialogue, but directly through gameplay. Enemies adapt to your actions: kill too many, and they start wearing heavy armor and helmets. It’s a subtle, realistic reinforcement of the game’s unspoken rule: "don’t kill unless you must." Yet the game never forbids combat. In fact, it makes fighting so enjoyable that sometimes it’s hard not to indulge. Especially when it comes to XOF, mercenary executioners with absolutely no humanity. I took enormous satisfaction in hunting them down. I replayed the Skullface mission many times even after I’d stripped the entire base of every resource, probably committing a full-scale mercenary genocide in the process. One-man army delivering justice. And then there’s that infamous ten-minute jeep ride. I didn’t skip it the first three (?) times. Story and Symbolism The story ended up impressing me the most. I absorbed it with genuine delight. I jumped through every bizarre hoop Kojima set up to unlock secret missions and true endings, and I did it willingly. Even in its hidden content, Kojima’s symbolism shines through. For example, having to defeat Quiet seven times to bring her back. MGSV’s narrative layers reward obsession, and I was happy to indulge. But what struck me the hardest weren’t the twists or secrets - it was the way the game occasionally drops all irony and reminds you that war isn’t spectacle, but pain you can’t dodge. There are moments when all the absurd freedom of MGSV suddenly collapses into one blunt truth: sometimes you have to do what no one else will. There’s no stealth workaround, no trick, no mercy. Just a decision so heavy it shakes even a legend. I could talk about the story for hours - but in short, it delivered some of the most memorable emotional beats. Are there any downsides? The game isn’t flawless. Some difficulty spikes - for example, the sudden encounters with the Skulls - felt unfair. The game barely prepares you for them, forcing you to improvise under pressure. Still, these moments rarely overshadow the experience as a whole. The Vibe MGSV has a unique atmosphere - a blend of absurd humor, heavy seriousness, and the exhausted PTSD-soaked aura of a war veteran clinging to whatever humanity he has left. The game is serious, but it also knows that serious faces are just masks. And sometimes it mocks that seriousness - intentionally and beautifully. It’s a rare combination: emotional weight and mechanical freedom. A world where every mistake, every triumph, every random act of stupidity becomes part of Big Boss’s legend - or whoever you choose to be.

MGS V is a paradox: it has some of the best stealth mechanics ever put into a game, wrapped inside a half-finished, console-first experience that was abandoned years ago. The good: Sandbox stealth and gunplay are fantastic. Enemy AI reacts dynamically and forces you to adapt. Huge freedom in how you approach missions. The bad: The story is incomplete. After Mission 30 it falls apart, with repeated missions instead of real content. Entire arcs were cut, and “Chapter 3” was never finished. No updates in nearly 10 years. What you buy today is the exact same broken package from launch. Made for controllers — menus, radial wheels, and even simple things like opening doors feel clunky on keyboard & mouse. UI sounds are intrusive and can’t be disabled separately. Small frustrations pile up. Verdict: It’s lorded as a masterpiece, but what we got is half a game. If you’re looking for a complete story or a polished PC experience, you won’t find it here.

(LONG REVIEW UP AHEAD, IF U HAVEN'T PLAYED THE GAME AND NEED SOME CONVINCING. READ!) For years, Red Dead Redemption 2 was my favorite game of all time. Its graphics, atmosphere, story — unmatched. I used to spend days just fishing and hunting out in the wild without returning to camp, fully role playing in that world. But I think I finally found something better. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is a masterpiece. I played it before Ground Zeroes, and to be honest, it was my first Metal Gear Solid game ever — and my first Kojima game too. I didn’t understand ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ at first. The game literally starts with you in a hospital, blurry vision for five minutes straight while “The Man Who Sold The World” plays. I was confused as hell. Then suddenly some psycho chick tries to kill you, a guy saves you, then a floating kid shows up out of nowhere, a dude made of fire tanks a shot from a tank and just shrugs it off. You escape, crash in an ambulance, and then a giant fire whale flies into the sky and slams into you. Then a guy on a horse picks you up and you shoot the fire dude with a shotgun and that somehow weakens him? 😂 It’s insane. It goes from super serious and badass to completely ridiculous, but that’s what makes it so brilliant. Kojima somehow bends tones in a way that shouldn’t work — but it totally does. The characters have soul, even beyond the plot. The story deals with revenge, loyalty, war — but then you can fulton a sheep into the sky and it’s like, yeah, that’s just normal now. The freedom is unmatched. You can go full stealth or full warlord. I’ve never played a game where you can develop a chopper that blares music while flying over enemies — psychological warfare at its finest 😂. The base building and army management is just as fun. You can assign people roles, send them on missions, or just beat the crap out of them on the brig and they literally thank you and salute you after. Its wild like are you dead the ♥♥♥♥ ass😂😂. After every mission the game gives you cassette tapes you can listen to if you want, and they actually explain what was going on — why you did that mission, what happened, etc. I’m guessing it’s Kojima’s way of shortening the amount of cut scenes because people were annoyed by the long ones in the older games. You might play this game and not understand a single thing at first, but by the time you finish it, everything slowly builds up bit by bit. I love that. And the gameplay… no game ever lets you seduce a Russian soldier in Afghanistan while you’re sitting in a cardboard box with an anime girl on it 😂. It’s simply hilarious. And the cutscenes… ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. They're long (which I love), and the camera work is unreal. It’s like an actual war cameraman is filming — zooms, pans, close-ups, shaky cam during tense moments — all of it. The lighting, the dust, the smoke, it all feels so alive. Like you’re right there. And of course, Kojima loves his women. He knew what he was doing with Quiet — she’s definitely sexualized, but her powers and the mystery behind her silence get explored in such a cool, satisfying way. She’s not just fanservice. She's a legit badass. I know this review’s been long, but this game is just special. To me it’ll always have a place in my heart. I could keep going about how amazing it is, but we’ll never see the end of it, so I’ll just cut it here. I hope you have as much fun and enjoyment as I did. Even if you've never touched a Metal Gear game before — like me — it’ll blow your mind.

I don’t know where to begin. One minute I was a mild-mannered gamer with a decent grasp on reality, and the next I was galloping across the Afghan desert on a horse that could poop on command, wearing a cardboard box, while a man literally made of fire chased me and a flaming whale exploded in the sky. That was the *first hour*. I have not recovered. **Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain** isn’t a game. It’s a multi-dimensional psychological field trip hosted by a chain-smoking philosophical warlord named Big Boss who might be you but also isn’t, and your best friend is a sniper who only wears a bikini because she “breathes through her skin.” Science? Art? Madness? I no longer know. At some point I airlifted a goat, a tank, an entire platoon of Soviet soldiers, and a toilet out of an enemy base using a balloon. I built a floating oil rig army from scratch, had regular Zoom calls with a parasitic linguist named Code Talker, and listened to 1980s pop songs while gunning down helicopters with a rocket arm. I think I’m the villain. I think *you’re* the villain. I think the real villain was the friends we kidnapped along the way. The stealth? Immaculate. The gunplay? Silky smooth. The plot? Written by an alien who was trying to pass as a human but only watched David Lynch films. I have played 80 hours and I still don’t know who Skull Face is, or why I care, but I do. I CARE. In conclusion: Metal Gear Solid V is the video game equivalent of waking up from a coma, finding out you’re missing an arm, and being told you now command a private military empire and must fight ghosts. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. You’ll Fulton a sheep. 10/10 – Kojima is a genius and I need to lie down.

I don't usually leave reviews, but after 280 hours I think I've earned the right. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has some of the best stealth gameplay ever made. The freedom to approach missions however you want never gets old. You can sneak in without being seen, go in guns blazing, call in air support, use buddies, gadgets, vehicles—the game constantly gives you new tools to experiment with. The gameplay loop is incredibly addictive. Building Mother Base, developing new equipment, extracting soldiers with the Fulton system, and watching your army grow kept me coming back for hundreds of hours. The story isn't as complete as it should have been, and you can definitely tell the game had development issues near the end. Even so, the gameplay is so polished that it more than makes up for those shortcomings. Few games make me want to replay missions just to try a completely different strategy. MGSV does that better than almost any stealth game I've played. 280 hours later, I'm still finding new ways to play. 10/10 — A masterpiece of gameplay, even if it's an unfinished masterpiece overall.

It's been ten years since I played Kojima's last ride in the Metal Gear universe on my PS4 and this time it wasn't only playing one more time I lived with Punished "Venom" Snake for almost two weeks and here's the deal - Story and Narrative: Revenge is a dish best served cold, sometimes you have to wait for at least a decade. if you dig into Metal Gear universe then you know there was this gap between Peace Walker and Metal Gear 1&2, this game and the prologue (Ground Zeroes) are filling this gap, for me personally if it was released before Guns of the Patriots it could be so mind blowing, but with Guns of the Patriots and everything has come to an end it's like living in the past with the awareness of the future. - Gameplay: the gameplay is still one of a kind, it will be formed around you, it depends on what style you play you're one of those shoot'em up run and gun let's blow them up or you're the one they never know was here even? its up to you how to play it and it will provide you with a lot of equipment to do whatsoever. - Environment: OK many used to say the game's world is empty and there is nothing but guard posts, outposts and animals, well what did you expect? to go to shops and maybe date your girlfriend? it's soviet controlled Afghanistan in the 80s in the deserts and mountains, I get it then why being open world then? I have to say in order for the narrative to get shaped and how much of the story you want to know and understand, the game had to be designed like this so the player would have the freedom to choose which missions they want to do or which files and tapes they want to know about, with the player exploring freely in the game's environment it was possible to shape the narrative this way. one of the most important things about the environment is the enemy behavior against you, if you mostly shoot in their heads they're gonna wear helmets, if you sneak in bushes and hide in it they're gonna mine those fields, it is very related to the way you play and they react exactly to your style of play, the AI in this game is still one of the best out there, I've never seen soldiers stay in cover like forever waiting until reinforcements join them and if they catch you in open they're not gonna miss their bullets. Long story short Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is a game that you can fulton extract a sheep and still it brings tears to your eyes for the brothers gone, for the people you taught never point your gun at your comrade but still you had to put a bullet in their heads. it will make you angry it will make you laugh, it will tell you how does it feel to fail in saving someone or to protect them, it will show you how good it feels to avenge your people and take revenge.
