Microsoft и 343 Industries…

After our second or third session playing through the Legendary campaign, a friend and I started discussing what a fair assessment of this remake would be without turning it into full-on hate. We finished our 4-man campaign tonight and we'll be tackling the remainder of the achievements in coming days. We landed on these questions for it based on the current experience of Halo CE in MCC and answering NO on at least 3 of them wouldn't make it worth a purchase: 1- Does it play better than CE in MCC? 2- Does it look better than CE in MCC? 3- Does it run better than CE in MCC? 4- Do the cutscenes, writing and narrative adjustments add anything substantial compared to CE in MCC? 5- Does it justify the current price tag? This is gonna be a slightly long review, so I'm leaving a TL;DR at the end. 1- Gameplay's fine, it's still CE at the end of the day but I don't think it plays better than CE . We found out that some weapon changes and enemy behavior are a bit out of line, though: -The AR is pretty much the Jack of all Trades of this game, it does everything. It's probably the best gun and it's such a stark contrast from its CE iteration. -Not being able to shoot a gun right after swapping is wack. -Elites are not a menace, they take a long while to take notice that you're shooting at them and barely react up until they're almost dead. -Jackals are pretty much the most dangerous units with their shields withstanding even Scorpion cannon shots and being able to use the Plasma Pistol at top efficiency. -We were very surprised at the Flood's ability to use shields on Elite corpses and sometimes even cloaking as well. At the same time, the Flood is very easy to manage because of the innate speed the game has, not even considering sprint being added to the equation. -We were getting deleted by Sentinels in the reactor section of The Maw and I started thinking..."this is pretty much Reach's engine...and that same engine was the base for Destiny and Destiny 2...and those games had wacky interactions with damage tied to frame rate on a very specific faction. What happens if we cap our frame rate?" Sentinels stopped dealing ridiculous damage and we all said "Of course...". 2- This topic is such a mixed bag because it is probably the main selling point of this game. Based on the quite different setups we all have (a PS5, a recently released laptop, a recently built PC and my almost 5 year-old PC), we all agreed that the game looks decent for all of us but it has a weird film grain and chromatic aberration that can't be turned off that ruin the experience a bit. Cutscenes are blurry as well. I personally think that these issues are detrimental and hardly justify the use of UE5 for its graphical side . 3- NOT AT ALL , this game was clearly rushed to be released before GTA6 even if I think they don't share demographics. It's one of the most unoptimized games I've played in a while. We all have experienced technical issues on every single mission we've played: textures popping up out of nowhere, key bindings getting reset every session, frequent stutters and frame drops during heated combat, cutscenes not playing for some of us in the group, achievements not popping up (we cleared The Maw 3 times because the achievements only pop up for the host in that mission...), frequent disconnects and the cherry on top is that lobbies don't have a Back or Disband options...you cannot leave a lobby unless the host closes the game. 4- Some cutscenes are really cool but the charm of cramming a warthog or banshee into them is lost. The Flood sections are probably the best part of the game and the remake of The Library is really good. However, the pacing of the dialogue is bad and the constant handholding doesn't help. Sadly, the new missions are nothing special with the exception of the Seraph section à la Long Night of Solace in part because Williams is awful. She adds nothing to the narrative of the game. Also, whose idea was to give Johnson the Deadpool treatment with his constant 4th wall breaking behavior? It's incredibly out of place. I'm undecided on this front because I'm not exactly Halo's most fervent fan, but I'd say it's a 50/50. 5- This should've been a $30 to $40 USD game, especially considering they didn't want to implement the PvP multiplayer. TL;DR: 1- Does it play better than CE in MCC? No 2- Does it look better than CE in MCC? Sometimes 3- Does it run better than CE in MCC? No 4- Do the cutscenes, writing and narrative adjustments add anything substantial compared to CE in MCC? At some points 5- Does it justify the current price tag? No Getting Halo MCC for like a 1/4 of this one's asking price that includes 6 games, score attack, time attack, medals, multiple game modes including PvP multiplayer is such a better choice. The only acceptable reason to get Halo Campaign Evolved is to play it in a 4-man group. That's it.

What should've been a slam dunk from the lessons learned with the release of CEA and the many failures after from 343 Studios ended up being an extremely average and uninspired remake of one of the greatest FPS games of all time. The game ranges from "hey that's pretty cool" to "wtf were they thinking" throughout the campaign. I will not be discussing the prequel mission as they're just a complete mess and not worth your time compared the base campaign. I'll start with the positives. Pros: The game generally plays pretty well in the gunfights on Heroic at least and the new guns feel like they belong aside from the SMG. That being said it's still not as good as the original so that's not quite the best complement. The game looks beautiful. They really utilized Unreal Engine 5 to its fullest extent here and it shows. Definitely stopped to admire the environment multiple times in each mission. They fixed a lot of the problems with CEA's take on the environments and kept the same atmosphere from the original....for the most part. T&R is very bright for some reason, but the flood levels have been really elevated by the graphics this time. The sound effects for the weapons and the vehicles all sound great as well staying faithful to the original (aside from some like the magnum) while making them sound more modern at the same time. The guns sound weighty. Finally some of the actual changes to the levels layouts work really well even when its just something like an extra room layout in AOTCR. The library is the only level that has been significantly changed and it has definitely been improved. Keyes still sucks however. Cons: Now for the bad. They have completely botched the cutscenes here. They generally feel unfinished and many times the camera just hangs on a character in silence for a few seconds where there was no pause in the original. Character movements just look awkward as well like the cutscene at the end of Two Betrayals where Chief is VERY slowly walking down a hall and talking while one tapping enemies effortlessly and doing the smallest head movements imaginable to "dodge" enemy fire. Johnson's facial movements look AI generated in the cutscenes that he's in. Speaking of Johnson, his new VA did not do a good job and does not come close to the "badass who can crack a couple jokes without sounding cringey" Marine that David Scully portrayed. This guys lines sound like a bad standup comedian, especially in the prequel missions, which is made worse by the fact that he looks like Steve Harvey now for some reason. Captain Keyes new VA also misses the mark here although not as bad as Johnson's. He does sound older which lines up better with the books but he just lacks the gravitas Keyes original VA had and looks like Ronald Reagan??? Now Cortana is truly perplexing because Jen Taylor is back but also just misses the mark on her lines which I can only assume this was because of bad direction from the developers and not herself. Her tone is completely changed from cold, smart and analytical to almost giddy and completely careless to the desperate situation the characters find themselves in. I feel like they were trying to make her like "The Weapon" from Infinite but it just does not work here at all and definitely further ruins some of the best cutscenes from the OG. The gameplay itself is good as I said previously but also misses the mark in places. The AI in general is noticeably dumber than the OG. Marines just take rounds to the face and do nothing frequently, the covenant throw their lives away constantly and the flood are barely a threat unless there is a massive horde of them. At the same time however Legendary difficulty is significantly harder than the OG almost to Halo 2 levels of punishment. Chief gets melted extremely fast by enemies while Elites especially are absolute bullet sponges without any skulls on. Why are elite majors tanking plasma grenade sticks? Hunters are by far the most annoying enemy now. Their health is fine and they still have a weak spot that makes them easy to kill if you can knock their backplate off but they no longer will get close to you and charge you opening them up for an attack on their back, instead they hang back and rapidly fire extremely accurate fuel rod shots that can one hit you on legendary just from splash damage making sections like the grav lift room on T&R an absolute slog. Finally the bad AI is compensated for by an insane amount of enemies in some sections of the game on Legendary, like T&R, which just completely goes against the "30 seconds of fun" philosophy that Bungie had with their Halo games. Legendary should be hard yes but it shouldn't be unfair and unfun, if you want that then there are a ridiculous amount of skulls in the game for you to collect. Which leads me to my next complaint. Lack of content. There's a lot of skulls, cool. This is a remake of CE for $50 with No multiplayer, no theater mode, no campaign scoring or timing, no firefight and even before release Halo Studios already made it clear they will not be adding anything new after launch. What are we doing here? This seems like such a half baked effort from Halo Studios first release its insulting. Oh but they added new cosmetics right? Problem is none of them are unlocked through just playing the game, not a single one. All the unique ones have to be paid for and many of the ones that are just color changes have to be redeemed on halo waypoint. -_- Conclusion: There's much more I could get into but this review is already long enough. At the end of the day I walked away from this game just feeling "meh" and I really wanted to like it. Its hard to believe after Halo CEA, 4, 5 and Infinite this company still can't capture what made the originals so beloved by fans in a remake of the first game. Modders are already working on fixing a lot of the gameplay issues but the cutscenes are prerendered and are never going to be changed. If you are someone who loves this game more power to you I'm glad you're having a great time but I am incredibly tired of seeing people aggressively attack ANY criticism of the slop that this company feeds us. We all deserve better and we should not just settle for average when this franchise once defined a generation of FPS games.

Where do I begin with this Frankenstein's monster of a remaster? In short, Halo: Campaign Evolved is not good. It is a (somehow) rushed remastering of a generational classic of an FPS title, weighed down by 1) its designers' inability to make real, meaningful changes to its original formula and 2) its insistence that modern gamers are drooling Neanderthals that need every mechanical nuance spelled out to them by one of its two primary protagonists. Additionally though, Halo: Campaign Evolved clearly just straight up needed more time in the oven. Weapon reload animations aren't finished. There's a distracting "shimmering" effect around weapons, and shadows don't operate properly when cast on them either. Cutscene pacing is awkward, with long silent stretches, bad framing, and stilted, rushed voicework. Said (pre-rendered) cutscenes have noticeable stutters and a hard 30 FPS cap. Textures are missing in various locales in-game, and the list just goes on and on and on. Rumors suggest this was released early to avoid butting heads with Grand Theft Auto 6, and this would be understandable if this game could be functional within the same time frame, but this game needs, at minimum, another YEAR of player input and general finesse. Absolutely nothing feels good here outside of the physics straight up ganked from Reach, and that's pretty disappointing when you consider they had nothing to do with that. In summary, do not give Halo Studios money for aborting what could have been one of the most interesting and redemptive projects of their career. This is an embarrassingly shallow interpretation of one of the most important console shooters ever made, and instead of doing due diligence and really putting in the detail necessary to make a project like this feel feature complete and up to its initial release's standards, Halo Studios just kind of apathetically dumped it off as this big ugly mess of mismatched features, artistic inconsistencies, tonal redirects and mechanical incongruencies. Disappointment feels like a very small word to convey the true meaning of this review. Very sad.

I finished Halo: Campaign Evolved and I still do not really know who it is for. New players and PlayStation players, maybe. But for everyone else, why buy this over The Master Chief Collection, where you get the original campaign and almost the entire series? There are times when it looks incredible. Some environments look like the version of Halo my adolescent brain thought I was seeing in 2001, and it is much better than the previous Anniversary remake. Unfortunately, getting it to look good on PC required multiple mods and messing around with ini files. Out of the box it was blurry, had strange input delay, and covered the screen in UI that you cannot properly disable through the normal settings. Opening an ini file and beginning negotiations with Unreal Engine should not be part of setting up a major PC release. The art direction is also very uneven. Forerunner structures are often too bright, clean and shiny, losing the ancient mystery of the original. Covenant interiors can look like a science fiction themed bowling alley. It is technically impressive, but often feels expensive and sterile. The weapons have lost some of their punch too. The Magnum still works, but sounds like a wet noodle being slapped against an Unggoy’s face. The AI is also strangely dim. Enemies hesitate, fail to pressure you and are far too easy to funnel. They preserved the Halo brain and apparently gave it a minor concussion. Sprint is fine outdoors, but inside Forerunner structures it lets you rush past the atmosphere, environmental storytelling and sometimes entire combat encounters. The problem is not that Chief can sprint. The old levels simply were not rebuilt around the fact that he now can. The bonus missions are supposed to justify the remake, but they added very little for me. They are poorly written, full of awkward cutscenes, and mostly involve running through corridors shooting enemies until your brain quietly leaves the room. Their main purpose is showing the history between Chief and Johnson, which is a good idea, but the game mostly mistakes placing them beside each other for developing their relationship. The small knocking gesture they share does more to sell their history than the missions themselves. The ODST storyline also had potential. Williams disliking Chief makes complete sense within Halo lore, despite the embarrassing culture war outrage around her. The problem is not that she dislikes him. The problem is that the writing does almost nothing interesting with why she dislikes him. The newly recorded dialogue is very hit and miss. Captain Keyes does not sound right for the character, and while Steve Downes is still unmistakably Chief, you can clearly hear his age. That is obviously not his fault, but it feels strange hearing such an old sounding Chief at the beginning of the series. The music is still excellent, but its placement often feels disconnected, as if someone pressed shuffle on the Halo greatest hits and trusted nostalgia to handle the rest. There are also hints towards a Halo 2 remake. That should excite me, but after playing this I am mostly wondering which beloved weapon will sound damp and which ancient alien structure will be renovated into a luxury kitchen showroom. More than anything, I do not understand why this project needed to exist. Microsoft spent years and an enormous amount of money developing Slipspace, used it once, then abandoned it for Unreal Engine 5. Building this in Slipspace, continuing to improve MCC, or finally adding Halo 5 and releasing the complete collection everywhere would all have made more sense. I do not hate Halo: Campaign Evolved. It has beautiful moments and clearly had talented people working on it. But it recreates almost everything from Combat Evolved except the thing that mattered most. Its charm.

I really dislike this game. I just can't understand what the thought process of this game was aside from "Making halo for a modern audience". Pros: Graphics: The game is gorgeous. The world is unbelivable to look at and the enviornments really come together beautifully. The technology of the covenant, the armor of the spartans, the weapon effects; all of it truly looks incredible. Whoever did the graphical and artistry work in this game definitely nailed it. The skybox and the halo ring itself look beautiful as well. Gameplay - realistically the weapons and gameplay itself is still fundamentally halo, but moreso focused on "clear enemies and enter the next room to clear enemies" trope that original bungie was trying to avoid with their design. The guns feel good, they sound good, they have impact. The warthog feels good, physics are typical halo, it all feels and sounds good overall. Music - The music is really good in the game, but thats because its all ripped from previous halo games. In the new missions, they just steal music from other halo games and plant it at random moments in this game. While the music is great, its only great because greater people made it. Cons: New Missions - The new missions are absolute trash. You can see the stark difference between the story pacing, story elements, character dialogue, mission structure. All of it is modern halo studios and you can clearly see they dont have the creativity or capability to properly do a halo game on their own. They botched three missions in a game that they otherwise just had to copy someone elses homework. Its a joke. LT Williams is insufferable and they try to mask it under the lore of the ODST but truthfully it all just feels out of place, forced and overall a massive joke to this franchise. The new missions themselves are also buggy. The game bugged out with johnson literally ten MINUTES into the first mission and 30 minutes into the first mission, resulting in a reload and progress reset multiple times. I cant even imagine what a full halo new game would look like under a studio this incapable. They cant even copy homework. Glitches and Bugs galore - As mentioned previously, this game actually feels broken sometimes. You will go a while with nothing then all of a sudden, get bugs back to back and you wonder WTF did they do with their time. They literally designed these new missions while copying everything else and still somehow botched it. New Mission Story - As you can see, a lot of my issues are with the new missions. They fundmentally ruin the experience of this remake. The story is garbage and is simple there to shoehorn in this new character williams for the few moments she is there. She purely exists only to completely ♥♥♥♥ on Master Chief and the spartan legacy under the guise of "lore" reasoning. They could have made this so much better but the mindset was clearly in one direction and it wasn't in the direction of respecting halo or master chief in any capacity. They probably hated remaking this game without being able to change the core experience so they added these PREQUEL missions to get a one up on the original. No Multiplayer - They sacrificed multiplayer in this game, a fundamental core aspect of halo, for these new missiosn that serve zero purpose and overall ruin the remake more than its already ruined. I dont get it man. Overall Halo Campaign Evolved is a BEAUTIFUL game, with the skin of halo but at its core, is anything but Halo. I highly recommend you play Master Chief Collection instead, as you will get way more of your money worth and actually have multiplayer plus MULTIPLE games for a CHEAPER price. This remake is a joke. Only buy it as super sale when it eventually gets there. Thanks for reading.

i cannot in good faith recommend this game over the original halo combat evolved. Performance: my computer is nearly one of the best computers a person can buy right now. With that being said, this game lags and stutters like all hell. When nothing is happening, the fps is stable and is alright. When the action picks up and things start happening, expect massive frame drops and stutters. This is the ue5 effect where nobody cares about optimization anymore and let games like this hit the shelves. The performance is overall just laughable at best and game ruining immersion at worse. If your pc is not one of the best, i feel sorry for you. The input latency is also not preferable for me so i used a controller to try and make it feel playable. (i played this game on all medium with no frame gen or upscaling and the max fps i could get was 100 on a 2k monitor on a 5090.) Voice acting: I do enjoy that they brought back most of the old voice actors but i am not a fan on the new delivery of lines. Cortana is now used like a tutorial and holds the players hand like they have never touched a shooter in there live. Sgt. Johnson sounds just ok and some of his new lines are a bit cringe. the voice acting and delivery was way better in the older title but not awful either. prequal missions: i do not care about the people saying that odsts and spartans have a rivalry, it was one guy in one book. the odsts in the actual halo games like master chief and spartans. The lady you meet in the prequal missions williams, is overall just a poorly written and really annoying character. 343 comes back again to make another awful attempt at making a "girl boss" character. If being annoyed at master chief and thinking that your better than him is all your character is, you need to find a new job. Gameplay: This game does feel more like a halo game and i will commend them on that. However, it does not feel like the original halo: ce and while i don't like that, its honestly just me nitpicking. heroic and legendry don't feel balanced what so ever because 343 thinks difficulty is adding more bullet sponges and artificially increasing the amount of enemies and their damage, health etc. Instead of feeling like the game actually outsmarted you, you just feel cheated because of getting one shot by a plasma pistol while fighting the 10 million spammed enemies. AI: the ai in this game is straight up just robbed from reach and it does struggle a lot. This is because reach ai was not made for a game like halo combat evolved and it seems they tweaked it just enough to make it barely work. Often you will see ai randomly stop moving or get stuck in objects, floors, and walls. It just comes off as lazy to me and i wish they would let go of reach and stop using its code. (also they used gen ai for this game so keep that in mind for the amount of effort they wanted to put in this game) Graphics: The graphics do look good but i feel like it kind of ruins the original feel that the old artstyle had. Don't get me wrong, the game looks pretty but, i prefer stylization over something looking realistic (that's not 343's fault, that is just a preference). There isn't much to say about it because it looks good but makes the game feel more like a tech demo. Overall: this game is just another cash grab at trying to profit off of nostalgia towards a franchise that millions of people love. This game barely respects what it is trying to remake and kind of spits in the face of the people who bought it. If you want a halo game worth actually playing, go play the mcc. please don't spend your money on this and play something that respects your time and money.

What do you get when you take a beloved game that holds so many memories and is the gold standard for the video game industry, and try to add modern writing, modern monetization, modern gameplay design, and modern game development methodology? You get the ironically named Halo: Campaign Evolved, which should really be named Halo: Campaign Regressed, as there is no evolution over the original or the Master Chief Collection versions of this game. For the TLDR, buy the Master Chief Collection, as it is, in my opinion, a far easier entry point to the series than this is. The only downside is that the graphics may not look as nice in some places, but at least that collection still has most of Halo’s soul, whereas this remake is soulless for reasons I will note below. Firstly, I do have to ask, why do we have to connect a Microsoft Account to our Steam Account for a single-player game? I do not understand why this was seen as necessary in any way, other than to harvest our data or some other nefarious reason. I kept getting errors 400 or 500, which, from what I've read online, indicate an account session issue or an Xbox Services issue. Why was adding another point of failure necessary to a single-player game? In terms of pricing, with the premium add-on, which are just skins if that is your sort of thing, it comes out to almost 100 CAD before taxes, and the base game, without any multiplayer, is nearly 70 CAD. This is all for a single-player game. Compared to the entry point of all the games in Halo MCC, they cost 50 CAD, or, for the Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Edition, a mere 13 CAD. Who thought these prices were reasonable? From a design standpoint, the soul has been unceremoniously ripped out of this remake. You cannot just make a game under the Halo IP without giving it the proper respect it deserves and having it made by people who understand the setting correctly. The game babies you every step of the way, and makes it so that even when you are fighting stealth elites, they have to be pointed out on the UI. You cannot explore anymore, as you will often die or get an out-of-bounds warning, which was not present in the original. I remember exploring and discovering new ways to approach missions when I played the original game when I was younger. Such a shame that experience has been stripped out. The game experience in meme form: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3776908332 I really did not think the writing would be this bad. Yet again, 343/Halo Studios continues to impress me with the unnecessary additions to games. Lieutenant Williams stands out as the worst addition by far, and I noticed she was suspiciously absent from all the marketing materials for this game. Basically, she goes around the whole game as an ODST ‘girlboss’ trope-type character talking down to Master Chief for nearly all of the game. I have seen people say it's because it is a loreful ODST/Spartan rivalry, but if you truly know your Halo lore, this is not true. In the novel Fall of Reach, Master Chief did injure two and kill two ODSTs when he was boxing, but the event was covered up so that it would not breed animosity. My opinion is that her insertion into the game was just an excuse to add another unlikable girlboss character and shows how little Halo Studios understands or respects its audience or setting. This game is one of the best examples of toxic feminity in recent memory. I found the whole Triumph Of Tolerance to be way too on-the-nose and unnecessary as well. The replacement of characters with women was unnecessary, and I saw some videos where you can kill the male NPCs but not the female ones. Some say it was hitbox-related issues that were patched after the preview. I find that very curious. They also replaced some of the characters that were facial scans of the original developers with more ‘diverse’ choices. Did I mention more than 50% of marine NPCs in this game are now women? How is that change aligned with existing lore? I do not understand why, from a lore perspective, any of the changes were necessary, or how they contribute positively to the game at all. It is just shoehorning modern sensibilities into a game to try and placate a modern audience that does not exist. The cutscenes have lost their magic and seem drawn out. I do not understand who wrote the lines and why so many lines were changed. The changes were unnecessary and take away from the setting and world-building Halo is known for. Cortana now has male facial features as well, which I found odd. What was wrong with the more feminine Cortana from the original games? Another strange choice. Performance-wise, my keybinds would never carry over from session to session. If you turned off DLSS, you would get ghosting. I had one crash as well, which I could not replicate. On Steam Deck, even with tweaks in ProtonDB, getting it to run at 30 fps was difficult. It ran at around 40-50fps on my 3070 on my other PC. Why was it released this buggy? Why are the developers that Halo Studios outsourced to relying on DLSS to pick up the slack on their inability to optimize UE5 properly? Also, shout-out to Microsoft for not refunding people like me who couldn't access the game during the paid pre-access period due to the server-related errors I mentioned earlier. Thank goodness I bought it on Steam. Lots of people on other platforms are SOL. Overall, I give this game a 2/10. It looks a bit nicer in some areas than the MCC collection, but is worse on every other metric. I have heard they are planning more remakes like this, and that Halo 2 is supposedly next. I hope they do not outsource so much and instead get competent people who will port the original over without making any unnecessary changes or unlikable character inserts. Even at a steep discount, this is garbage in gaming form. Do not buy this game, and support Halo Studios and their destruction and disrespect to gaming history. It will poison your childhood memories of what is a great game originally before this garbage remake. I just finished the main campaign solo on Legendary. A part of me really wants to be able to recommend the game, but it's too much of a mixed bag to justify spending $50+ on it. Let's start with the good. - The game looks great, particularly in outdoor environments. I'm in the camp of people who think the Forerunner and Covenant architecture should've looked more akin to how they did in the original Combat Evolved, but I can set those sentiments aside to acknowledge how beautiful just about everything else looks. If this is 'UE slop', send me to the pigsty for more helpings. - Halo's gameplay is as fun as ever. Even with sprint (a mechanic I've never been fond of in the series), movement still has that classic 'floaty' feel to it. I never felt like I had to sprint; the levels are still designed relatively proportionate to how they were in the original, so walking through the whole game was completely viable. The gunplay is also a standout here. Every weapon serves a purpose in the sandbox, even with the addition of new guns like the SMG. Most returning weapons function very similarly to how they did in the original CE. The shotgun rips through anything at close range, the magnum is still a pocket sniper, and the AR still feels good to spray (even with the reduced magazine size). Now onto the middling stuff. - Enemy AI is pretty janky. I should preface this by noting that I've never been a fan of Reach's Covenant. They're overly aggressive, they move weird, and are oftentimes unpredictable. The original CE Covenant were, in my opinion, the best in the franchise. I don't know what the feasibility of reworking CE's AI to more modern animations/models would've been, but that would've been a better route than just copying and pasting Reach's AI onto the Infinite models. The only reason this is a mixed point and not a direct negative is due to the upgraded Hunters and the Flood. Halo 3's Flood are insanely fun to tear through, and that remains unchanged here. The Tank forms are a nice addition as well (thank you Fireteam Raven for making them canonically present on Alpha Halo). Time for the bad. - The game holds the player's hand way too much. Yes, I know everything can be toggled off to make it more like the classic game, but some of these 'accessibility features' shouldn't be turned on by default—let alone in the game at all. Why do I need HUD markers over the last few enemies in every section? Why are waypoints guiding me through a level that's supposed to be confusing and stress-inducing for the player? It's insulting that the devs just assume people can't figure out basic mechanics without being guided every step of the way. - The voice acting ranges from 'just okay' to atrocious. This is at no fault to the voice actors themselves, but rather whoever directed them. Cortana's inflections are all over the place. We get small glimpses of the dry and sarcastic Cortana from the original game, but those moments are supremely overshadowed by the jarring split personalities she has otherwise. Some lines feel like they're spoken by the cutesy/innocent Weapon from Halo Infinite, others sound like a preschool teacher talking down to Master Chief like he's a toddler, and several are so flat you'd think Jen Taylor wasn't even trying. She deserves so much better. Additionally, the new voice actors for Keyes and Johnson don't quite hit the mark for me. Johnson's at least tries to emulate David Scully, but Keyes' sounds so incredibly generic that it makes me wish they'd just reused Pete Stacker's original dialogue. The only character who stays on par with the original is Tim Dadabo as Guilty Spark. - The cutscenes are so bad that it's laughable at times. It's clear they were trying to go for a more cinematic and movie-like approach (a la Blur Studios' H2A cinematics), but it was executed extremely poorly. Both the facial and body motion capture is so hard to look at that it gives me secondhand embarrassment. I felt like I was watching a parody of the original game at several moments. There are some cool shots here and there (the double Hunter kill by Keyes is way more badass than the original), but it's 90-10 in terms of negative-to-positive. The verdict: There's some good stuff in here, but the game largely feels rushed and undercooked. It's leagues above CE Anniversary as far as aesthetics go, and the gameplay is still quintessentially Halo at its core. It's just that everything else feels so muddled and visionless. I get that the project was probably just a way for Halo Studios to get used to using Unreal, but that shouldn't have been a shipped product. I'd recommend waiting for the product to get knocked down by at least 40% on sale before picking it up. 4/10

My biggest criticism is that this remake repeats the same mistake as Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary. Instead of faithfully modernizing the original, it borrows AI, animations, and gameplay systems from later Halo titles. That misses the entire point of a remake. Combat Evolved's Elites didn't fight like Reach's, and Halo 2's Brutes had some of the best AI in the series, yet they're based on Reach's weaker implementation. The goal should have been to preserve Combat Evolved's identity while modernizing it, not replace it with systems from other games. There are also countless small gameplay changes that slowly erode the sandbox. Kill barriers now block areas that players were once free to explore, weapons despawn far too quickly, and overall the game feels more restrictive than the original. Individually these are minor changes, but together they chip away at what made Combat Evolved special. The visuals are another disappointment. The Covenant aesthetic has drifted away from the clean, elegant, almost ethereal look that made Combat Evolved so distinctive. The best example is the Truth and Reconciliation. The original ship had a long, sleek silhouette that immediately stood out as something alien and iconic. The remake turns it into a chunky, bulbous redesign that loses everything memorable about its shape. It doesn't feel like a faithful modernization; it feels like someone wanted to redesign an icon simply because they could. That's a recurring problem throughout this remake. Instead of asking, "How do we faithfully bring this into 2026?", Halo Studios keeps asking, "How can we reinterpret this?" Those are two very different goals, and you can see the difference in almost every artistic decision. Then there are the unnecessary changes. Removing Bungie developer Matt Segur's cameo was done in poor taste. And before anyone tries to make this about race, it isn't. I think race-swapping established characters is a bad creative decision in general because it demonstrates the same problem Halo Studios has had for years: they struggle to respect the source material. They always feel the need to "leave their mark" instead of asking whether something needed changing in the first place. It's like walking into the Louvre, taking the Mona Lisa, and scribbling your own signature across it because you think you've improved it. A remake should celebrate the original, not compete with it. The presentation also falls short. Halo 2 Anniversary showed exactly how a Halo remake should look, thanks to Blur Studio. Here, the cinematics are merely competent instead of memorable. Cortana was another missed opportunity. I was genuinely excited to see a faithful modern interpretation of her Combat Evolved design. Instead we got what the community has jokingly called "Jermtana." She doesn't even resemble the iconic purple Cortana from the original game. It feels like another needless redesign for the sake of redesigning. Johnson suffers the same problem. I understand David Scully has retired, but Sgt. Johnson isn't really Sgt. Johnson without him. I'd rather they had reused his original dialogue than replace it with weaker performances. In fact, that's another issue across the board: several of the new voice performances simply don't hit as hard as the originals, and many of the replaced lines were honestly better. I don't understand why they were changed at all. In the end, this remake reinforces what I've felt for years: Bungie captured lightning in a bottle. Halo's identity came from a team that understood exactly what made it special. After more than a decade, Halo Studios still hasn't recaptured that magic. I believe it's time for Microsoft to hand Halo to a new developer that understands preserving Halo's identity is more important than constantly reinventing it. That being said, the game is pretty.

-broken ai, behavior ranging from erratic to passive and braindead, directionless at times. an enemy can be seen in sight shooting at your direction, but be just a couple inches too close to a wall and be shooting straight into that wall point blank instead of you, and won’t even bother to move to get a better shot, not only for just several minutes but an indefinite period of time, if you stand there long enough. -reuses assets from halo infinite and halo reach, a game thats at least 15+ years old by now. its quite telling that establishing a solid and cohesive art direction where every asset and model fits in aesthetically wise with one another is not a serious concern for halo studios. this helps in reducing the immersion, seeing familiar assets from previous halo games in what is effectively supposed to be a faithful true remake of halo combat evolved, where “”“everything has been built from the ground up”””, to quote the developers themselves in an interview. -the remixed soundtrack lacks some of the power and dynamic impact of the original. halo’s music was deliberately used to establish mood, tension, mystery and grandeur, but the new mix sounds flatter and less impactful, undermining moments that were previously carried by the music alone. in addition - weapon/vehicle/environmental sound effects and cues have been mixed and altered as well in the same vein as the remixed OST. muted, flat, less impact and little distinctive character. you should be able to easily recognize specific weapons firing off, grenades thrown to the floor, weapons overheating, certain enemy attacks, vehicle threats, footsteps, etc without any effort. you shouldn’t ever have to second guess what a sound is in the middle of the action. this only serves as a distraction. -poor performance/optimization, stuttering in gameplay/cinematics, frame rate drops, crashes, softlocks, video/audio desync, audio popping, and even GPU crashes at the very worst -unnatural dialogue, stilted and unusual performances that fail to capture/exceed the intended tone of the original. certain tones and inflections were employed in the original to establish a solid atmosphere and sense of urgency to the plot. but thats more difficult to get a feel for when voice lines sound off-putting and strange, as if a less-than-ideal take from a voice actor was chosen for the final release, and the end result comes off feeling like a amateur theatre play. not only that but the cinematography and the camera angles for cutscenes are unusually still and static compared to the original game, with there being plenty of out of focus shots in what results in the environment being unclear and blurry. lots of stiff, slow body language, awkward facial animation, strange prolonged close-ups and slow movement in supposedly tense situations, same for the camera, feeling as if its very carefully framing characters performing certain actions in a delicate manner rather than capturing the intensity of a dramatic scene. what kind of emotions is a prolonged close-up of sgt. johnson’s side portrait while he’s taking cover from covenant fire with his squad supposed to invoke from the player as they’re watching, aside from boredom and confusion? -simplified level design that makes combat evolved more linear than ever before, when such a big and important part of the original game was its massive and expansive levels to explore. areas that were originally designed around exploration, navigation and discovering your own route are increasingly structured around moving the player toward the intended destination in a linear path. -excessive use of waypoints and markers significantly damper the immersion thats associated with exploration, undercutting the tone and atmosphere of certain levels like 343 guilty spark for example, where you’re wandering around a mysterious and foreboding foggy dark jungle, with the flood every now and then very briefly making subtle yet easily missable appearances in the distance, keeping you weary at all times, but now you have a unnecessary, tacked on, bright waypoint at the very focal point of almost everything you see and experience. -oh by the way, stuff like the flood lingering in the distance is broken too due to the poor AI not triggering at the right times/distance from the player. (encounter scripting failures) -increase in graphical fidelity while going further from the artistic direction of the original. if you didnt like the halo: anniversary remaster and its numerous creative liberties, chances are you won’t like this either. -integration of new gameplay mechanics while not rebalancing the game around the existence of said mechanics. (ex. sprinting) this trivializes many combat encounters, if the crippled AI didn't already do that to an extent. -ai for the flood is also broken. something that was once genuinely scary and nerve wracking to encounter for the very first time in the original game is now yawn inducing and boring in comparison. directionless, slow, indecisive on where to go and what to do, and often found standing around doing nothing, probably watching paint dry. -unbalanced arsenal. the assault rifle now has increased damage and range, and ammo for it is now plentiful, significantly putting the incentive to experiment with halo’s weapon sandbox and adapt to different tactics on the fly at a detriment. why waste your time and bother with other weapons when the definitive answer to all of your potential problems is already within the palm of your hands at the start of the game? -linking to a microsoft account is still mandatory to play. this is self-explanatory, no one likes nor cares for this. if you’re genuinely, sincerely that concerned about having a leg up over the original halo on the xbox, consider removing the mandatory microsoft account login if you want to win some sliver of approval from the players. -apparently lacks PvP multiplayer (but does have 4 player online/split-screen coop.) the competitive PvP multiplayer from the original halo is undoubtedly an iconic and essential element of the game, regardless of who you are and your relationship to the series. to have such a vital and integral part of the game completely missing in a $50 triple-A release…? this aint it, chief. when a developer studio’s sole objective in a remake is to basically copy someone else’s homework thats already been figured out and completed, yet they manage to mess up and ruin just about every aspect of their work somehow, despite the fact that no originality or thought is really needed on their behalf as long as they copy and paste everything faithfully as 1:1 as possible with no deviation, you know something is horribly wrong. ill use some of campaign evolved’s new additions to make an example - sprint lets you bypass situations. the stronger, more abundant AR allows you to ignore weapon/tactical experimentation. additional weapons further muddy the original sandbox. broken AI reduces enemy pressure and tension. simplified and increasingly linear level design reduce environmental problem-solving. the information-dense, navigation centric HUD trivializes exploration and severely undercuts atmosphere and mood, especially in key areas of the game. the remake treats Combat Evolved as a foundation to be modernized, something to be fixed rather than as a deliberately constructed system whose individual limitations and rules were part of a carefully balanced design. the fact that unpaid modders from the halo community have more skill and knowledge in game design compared to halo studios is utterly baffling, considering they’re a several million dollar development studio. its even more astounding that they haven’t learned anything valuable ever since developing halo 4 as 343 industries 14 years ago. where exactly did all of this money go, if not towards creating a quality product? You had one job. one job. All of this could have been easily avoided. its so halover.

The best part about the game is the art, the visuals and technical work than went into making it all. I cannot overrstate how good the game can look when maxed out with some well-tweaked settings (courtesy of Ultra+). It can genuinely be a marvel to look at. The middling parts of the game are the fact that the underlying gameplay engine is basically that of Halo: Reach, and that much of the game is... Mostly similar to Bungie-era Halo games if not downright identical (The original game's soundtrack). The soundscape is ok, but not as polished and well balanced as it could be. Some combat scenario design can feel a bit off at times, which one might hope could've been focused on given this is a remake. The recast voice actors are fine, and the re-recorded voice lines of the returning cast mostly serve the same purpose, though whether for better or worse is mostly subjective. The bad parts... Well, it's difficult to summarize. No multiplayer, the bonus missions mostly miss the mark when it comes to being a value add (while also having little to no context with the main game), the pre-rendered cutscenes have some bafflingly unconvincing sections which definitely required more work (and, to be honest, better directing and storyboarding) and, once again, this was yet another Halo game developed mostly by developers who will not be staying on to work on future games, same as it was with Halo: Infinite, Halo 5 and Halo 4. Finally... There's just no getting around it - this game, on its own, doesn't offer much beyond its visuals and gameplay-reuse-refresh compared to The Master Chief Collection. Most damningly of all (though this is entirely personal of me), I would have preferred Halo 5 would've been fully ported to PC.

It is nowhere near as bad as people are making it seem. I have thousands of hours played across all the Halo games so while im not some massive authority figure in this realm, I do know what im talking about when it comes to Halo. It may not be perfect, but it is definitely a solid improvement on the series in many ways. Pros: - The gameplay feels very good. They hit this middle ground that I think is a massive step in the right direction. They hit a good middle ground between classic Halos more forgiving gameplay mechanics and modern Halos more rewarding mechanics. - The enemy AI while a bit off at times is really good when its fully working, very aggressive and blind fires corners. (Hunters are brutal) - The guns feel amazing especially the assault rifle. (The Sentinel beam is hilariously overpowered) - The library overhaul is massively superior to the original (and I am a library enjoyer unlike most people) - Some of the cinematics are done incredibly well (343 guilty sparks in particular) - The vehicles are all pretty good. The banshee and ghost are nice. Wraith turning is a bit slow, but good. The warthog is good, but use aim based control not driver based. Driver based feels actually broken and makes the maw impossible. - Overall the graphics are incredible and I do not have a great PC. - Skulls, so many skulls that do so many things. Its pretty awesome. - Campaign modifiers are really cool and can completely change the way the levels feel. Cons: - There are some lighting bugs that makes surfaces have a sort of static look or film grain (I think its more a UE5 thing than this game in particular) - I found a couple areas where there are holes in the environment that have undetectable kill barriers. - No animations for swapping between gunner to driver seat in wathog or vice versa. - Sometimes enemy AI bugs out in weird ways. Such as they will just stop pursuing or shooting and allow you to kill them. Flood being unable to open automatic doors on two betrayals allows you to use doors as ways to funnel enemies in small groups making encounters too easy. - Johnson has a lot of changes to his voice lines. Most of the time its not too bas as OG voice lines were a bit cheesy anyways, but they made him a little too funny guy so he feels less like a smooth talking soldier and more a comedic relief character. - Keybinds keep resetting every time I close the game. - Terminals are in text form and i was hoping for CEA and H2A video style terminals, but they are still cool. Overall id say I like this game far more than CEA. Far more fleshed our and enough changes that it feels interesting again. The hate brigading feels insane to me, fake videos saying you cant kill females, complaints about in game settings that you can simply toggle on/off like item markers. Reviews telling actual lies like having to use a QR to sign in every time you log into the game. People playing the game for ~30 minutes and saying its garbage with zero context. Its not perfect, but its a massive improvement from the last 10 years or so from Halo. This could be a massive stepping stone into the future of Halo if done right.

I don't care about the bad voice acting or stilted cutscenes. This game is nothing. Halo has had so much continuity between 2004 and now and almost none of it was used. Even barring Fireteam Raven there was not a single ODST in the game aside from one single character in the bonus levels which exists solely to berate the player and spout insipid banter. The bonus levels themselves are utterly devoid of interesting content or routes to take, featuring 90% reskinned enemies and the single worst implementation of brutes I have ever seen in a Halo game. Sure the space section is nice, except that it's ripped from Halo Reach. And it's even more boring and repetitive than it was in Reach. Which sums up the majority of new and changed content in this game. This game doesn't feel like Halo Combat Evolved. It feels like Halo Reach wearing the skin of Halo Infinite, which is effectively all it is. Don't think it gets by me that the new campaign weapons, the sentinel beam and energy sword, are ripped from Halo Infinite as well. Campaign Evolved is just boring. There's nothing to sink your teeth into. There's no score, there's no time attack, there's no playlists or online or firefight. It's just campaign. Campaign Evolved, that is. And those campaign levels are almost entirely unchanged except for The Library. The Library is fine, I guess. Except for tank forms which can't fight you on top of a slope and just sit there eating way too many bullets. Sure, it's nice to rip tank forms from Halo 3 with shiny new graphics, but there was zero consideration for how they might interact with Halo CEs level structure. In fact, there was little consideration for anything but producing a minimum viable product that could be pumped out for a quick buck. If you want a passionate reimagining of Halo CE, play Ruby's Rebalance. If you want to play Halo CE levels in Halo Reach's engine with pretty graphics and a choppy framerate then go ahead. I'm genuinely happy for you. I wish I liked this game. I wanted to like this game so bad it's unreal. I paid full price for this. Hell, I DO like this game. It's fun to click heads and make enemies explode. But it's impossible not to think about what could have been and be disappointed with what is. Halo has so much unused content that was just ignored in favor of spamming spec ops elites and removing hallways in Assault on the Control Room. The bonus levels are blatantly tech demos for what a Halo 2 remake might be. And it's all but officially confirmed a Halo 2 remake is in the works. If the brutes are anything like they are in this game going forward then Halo Studios will have failed to learn a single thing. But then again, when have they?

I went into Campaign Evolved expecting to be disappointed. I'd heard all the controversy and complaining on Twitter, watched a few cutscenes, some gameplay, etc. and I'd been burned by 343 before. I'd been planning to pass on it, maybe trying it out after it went dirt cheap on sale. And then a friend of mine (who had gotten the early access edition and who I'd heard gushing about the game for the prior week) asked me to grab it because he wanted to play co-op with me. "Eh, screw it," I said. "I'm getting paid this week." So I picked it up. All in all, I was left pleasantly surprised. As a quick TLDR of my sentiments regarding this game: Is Halo: Campaign Evolved worth $50? No. Is it worth $70? God no. On sale for half off or so? Hell yeah. Is Halo: Campaign Evolved the horrible disgrace to the series legacy that people are acting like it is? After playing it- no, I don't think so. That is to say- this is a very flawed game. It certainly has its problems. There's a bunch of bugs in both gameplay and animations that should've been caught way before the game was released, I've crashed more while playing this game than I have any other game on my PC, constant lag spikes and stuttering in certain areas, I'm not fond of the Elites speaking English, I think some of the writing in the prequel missions is a bit weak (no, I don't particularly care for Williams, but she's also a marked improvement over someone like the Warden Eternal)... Despite common misconception, things like the hitmarkers, waypoints and sprinting can also just be turned off if you don't want to use them. Also, the new VAs are good, just with some odd direction at times. I really like the new VA for Johnson and his old VA retired, so the change was inevitable lol At the same time, they made a bunch of what I think are improvements to the original. The game is really pretty (depending on your opinions on raytracing at least). I was worried that 343/Halo Studios would run through every Forerunner structure in the entire game with polish and a microfiber cloth like they did in Halo 4, 5 and Infinite, but Installation 04 is just as dusty and grimy as one would expect for a ringworld that's been sitting around for a hundred thousand years. That being said, though I do think the original still has a good amount of charm, there's one thing I think Campaign Evolved improves on significantly. The Flood. Oh, the Flood. The Flood have essentially been wasting away on a shelf for the past 20 years in terms of the main series- no, I don't consider the books, Halo Waypoint posts or spinoffs (as much as I love Halo Wars) as part of the main series- and they were finally brought back into the spotlight with aplomb. Their introduction cutscene in 343 Guilty Spark is phenomenal, the way you can see Flood biomass corrupting and taking over areas a la Halos 2 and 3- they even managed to make The Library fun and visually interesting. The Library. On my first run through on Legendary with my friend the tank form dropping from the ceiling scared the crap out of me- I wasn't expecting them to be in this remake lmao Also, the Proto-Gravemind in Keyes developing the teeth of a fully grown Gravemind on its back was a wonderful detail, too. The whole game is full of those little details that had me grinning and dragging my friend over so I could point them out to him, like the fleet shooting at the Pillar of Autumn being visible out the windows during the first mission, the banter between Chief and Cortana- I love it all so much. Speaking of the Proto-Gravemind, they fixed the thing I despise most from the original Combat Evolved: babysitting Keyes during the escape from the Truth and Reconciliation on Legendary. In the olden times, if you so much as breathed on the dear captain wrong, he'd keel over and send you back to the last checkpoint. Now, you can send him forward to fight a horde of suicide grunts and he'll be unceremoniously reconstructed on the atomic level somewhere nearby once the fighting's done. I am not ashamed to say that I do not mourn the loss of the original "Puppyguard the Good Captain" section of Truth and Reconciliation on Legendary. All gushing aside, I'll reiterate my initial points. Is Halo: Campaign Evolved a horrible game? No, not at all. It's flawed, but it's not awful. It just needs some elbow grease and has some issues that I hope Halo Studios will buff out in the coming weeks/months. Now, is it worth 50- or even 70- of your hard earned dollars? Absolutely not. $20-$25 though? Yeah I'd say it's totally worth it when it goes on sale. Grab a buddy or 3, set the difficulty to Legendary and spend a weekend shooting your way off an ancient alien ringworld- I assure you that you'll have a grand old time. Maybe consider waiting until after there's been a few rounds of bugfixing, though. When it works, it's phenomenal. When it doesn't work, it really doesn't work. Will I be back for Halo 2 Evolved? ...if I'm being honest, probably!

Halo: Combat Evolved Reboot – A Review of the Game, Not the Conversation One of my biggest frustrations with game reviews is that they often tell me how someone felt about a game instead of telling me what the game actually is. "I loved it." "I hated it." "This studio is terrible." Those statements do not help someone understand the experience. This review is not a recommendation or a score. It is simply an explanation of what this game is, what it changes, and how those changes affect the experience. What This Game Is The first thing to understand is that this is not Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary again. It is not simply the 2001 game with updated graphics. This is a modern reinterpretation of Halo CE. The story remains faithful. The major events, characters, and plot points are intact. The developers did not rewrite Halo's history. Instead, they rebuilt the experience using modern shooter design while preserving the original story. That distinction is important because many criticisms appear to come from expecting a different kind of remake. Design Philosophy The most impressive thing about this remake is that nearly every change follows the same philosophy. The AI rewards reading situations instead of memorizing encounters. Weapons reward choosing the right tool instead of relying on one dominant answer. Levels reward adaptation instead of repetition. Pacing rewards engagement instead of endurance. Cinematics improve understanding without changing the story. This remake is not trying to recreate every mechanical limitation of 2001 Halo. It is trying to preserve what made Halo worth remembering. Presentation and Story Visually, the game succeeds in creating a more grounded Halo universe. The Marines look and act like soldiers, the Covenant feels more threatening, and the expanded cinematics give a much better understanding of events. The opening aboard the Pillar of Autumn is a great example. Instead of simply waking up during an attack, you see the battle unfold. You understand the scale of the situation and the context behind later dialogue. The characters also benefit from the expanded presentation. Master Chief and Cortana have developed significantly over the years, and this remake reflects that. Cortana in particular has a wider emotional range. She is still witty, but she also shows concern, frustration, and fear in situations where the original mostly relied on sarcasm. Gameplay This is where the remake makes the biggest change. Halo CE was one of the greatest shooters of its era, but it was also a product of that era. Halo 2 moved the series closer to the modern shooter, and this remake bridges that gap. Combat now feels consistent with the rest of the Halo series. The campaign is faster paced, but not because it removes content. It reduces repetitive encounters and improves the flow of missions. The original game often relied on enemy durability and repetition for difficulty. This remake creates difficulty through more dynamic combat. As someone who regularly plays through the Halo series, this is one of the biggest improvements. Halo CE now feels like it belongs alongside the rest of the franchise. Weapons and Combat The weapon sandbox has been redesigned with clearer roles. The Assault Rifle is a strong general-purpose weapon. The Shotgun is more specialized instead of being an answer to every close-range problem. The SMG fills the gap between close-range and mid-range combat. The Sniper Rifle has been adjusted to require more precision. The Magnum is the one weapon where I think the redesign misses the mark. The original Magnum was too dominant, but slowing its rate of fire changes the identity of the weapon more than its role. Adjustments such as range limitations, bloom, or other accuracy mechanics could have preserved the feel of a combat pistol while preventing it from replacing other weapons. AI and Level Design The AI is probably the strongest improvement. Enemies behave less like scripted targets and more like coordinated groups. Elites look for opportunities to flank. Jackals and Grunts create supporting elements. Encounters feel more reactive to player behavior. This creates an interesting effect for longtime players: the game is not necessarily harder, but it is less predictable. Several times I found myself relying on twenty years of Halo CE memory. The problem was that I was remembering encounters rather than actually reading the battlefield. The same applies to level design. Strong levels remain recognizable, while weaker and more repetitive sections receive larger changes. The Library is a good example of a mission that keeps its identity while improving its flow. Audio The largest weakness of the game is the audio. However, I do not believe the main issue is poor voice acting. The performances generally fit the situations, and many characters actually display more emotion than they did originally. The problem appears to be technical. Using a reduced dynamic range setting improved the overall audio experience and restored some of the missing impact from dialogue. This suggests the issue may be related to mixing, compression, or post-processing rather than the actors themselves. That distinction matters because a technical issue may be fixable, while blaming the performances sends criticism in the wrong direction. Technical Performance My experience was stable. I had no crashes, major bugs, or progression issues throughout the campaign. Technical problems reported by other players should always be considered in context. Hardware, drivers, and operating systems vary significantly. A problem occurring outside the published system requirements is a different discussion than a failure on supported hardware. Final Thoughts This remake is not trying to replace Halo CE as a piece of gaming history. The original will always have its place. Instead, this is an attempt to take Halo CE's story and rebuild the experience around modern design principles. Whether those changes are what someone wants from a remake depends on what they value most. If someone wants the exact 2001 experience, this is not that. If someone wants Halo CE's story presented as a modern Halo campaign experience, this is what the developers created. Personal Note I intentionally avoided making this review a recommendation because I do not think that is the purpose of a review. My goal was to explain what this game is. That said, after finishing the campaign, I do have one personal conclusion. Every November I play through the Halo story in chronological order. Going forward, this is the version of Halo: Combat Evolved I will use for that playthrough. Not because it replaces the original's historical importance, but because I believe it delivers the same story in a way that fits naturally alongside the rest of the series.

Gaylo: Combat Devolved Imagine being handed a complete game - gameplay, story, characters, everything - and all you had to do was update the graphics. Somehow they still ♥♥♥♥♥♥ it up. This isn’t a love letter to the fans. It’s a soulless UE5 cash grab that feels like some theater kid’s fanfic poorly glued onto the bones of a classic. They forced in a girlboss marine who one taps Master Chief like it’s nothing, then turned Cortana’s face into Prince Charming from Shrek. People love to screech “Why do you even care?” The real question is why the developers cared enough to change it in the first place. Halo singlehandedly tanked U.S. military enlistment. Dead on arrival.

The hate is overblown, it's not perfect by any stretch and I have some personal gripes with the game. Art style wise, UNSC and covenant are amazing in my opinion, Forerunner is okay, a bit too shiny at points and too 343 but if they do Halo 2 remake and make it even slightly more Bungie, it'll be perfect. Gameplay is solid, sprint doesn't feel too aggressive and honestly doesn't "ruin the flow" as many others like to say. The same people that act like in the original you couldn't just run past entire groups of enemies and sections while you definitely could. Graphics are gorgeous, I've found myself stopping and admiring the vistas and details. on my rig it ran extremely smooth, no drops in frames, staying at a solid +120FPS on ultra with minor dips in very detailed areas. Note: "this is without frame generation" If you love the original to an overly analytical and extreme degree, you'll probably not like this game a whole lot, however, if you enjoy Halo games on a casual basis, this will be a very enjoyable experience. Overall, call me casual, call me a "fake halo fan" even though I played the series since 2001, and beaten all halo games multiple times on legendary, I really really enjoyed this and I want more. I genuinely liked this and I really hope Halo studios don't abandon the remakes like they abandon everything else they start. Do I think Halo studios need some really severe restructuring? Yes, absolutely. Do I think Halo studios should make Halo 7? Yes, don't abandon infinite's new story. Did I enjoy this remake despite all the outsourcing and other controversies? 100 percent. Don't buy the deluxe though, save your money or even wait for a sale.

Для кого делался этот ремейк? Microsoft и 343 Industries…
