I've been thinking about how to start my review for a long time. As a long-time fan of the series who has been playing since Forza Motorsport 2, who has played every game since then (including the Horizon series), who has pre-ordered the Ultimate Edition of every game, and who has invested thousands of hours of playtime in the series, I am at a loss for words. This is my first Forza that I've played mostly on PC, where I can switch between PC and Series X thanks to Cross Progression. Turn 10 has promised a lot in the past, the trailers often looked better than the finished games, but never has the gap been as wide as it is with this installment. At no point does the game look even remotely as good as the original trailers, even with the maximum details on PC it doesn't come close to the video footage shown in marketing events. Visually, the game fluctuates from "quite respectable" to "really bad", the latter especially when a vehicle model appears again somewhere that was copied over from an old game. "From the ground up new" this is not. The "career mode" is one of the most boring campaigns I've played in the genre, the AI drivers are dumber than ever and the content has been greatly reduced. Fewer tracks, vehicles and features but more bugs than ever. Crashes, disappearing track textures and geometry etc. are part of the game experience here, the list of known bugs is longer than some PhD thesis. Something must have gone wrong during the long development time. It remains to be seen whether Turn 10 can pull it out of the mud. At this point, I wouldn't recommend the game even to fans.

I have over 500hrs in this game, so I feel that i can give an honest assessment of it at this point, and the YLDR version is this: The only thing "built from the ground up" was the marketing. The game looks, feels, and plays like a half-baked, warmed over refresh of Forza 7- and "refresh" might be giving it too much credit. Single player is devoid of content, boring, and repetitive. Online if full of rammers and cheaters. Peripherals DO NOT work as intended Visuals are vastly different than the trailers. Turn10 touts bug fixes like they're some sort of feature, and seem to be in no hurry to render the game into a playable state. Maybe one day it will be a good racing game, but today ain't that day, and tomorrow ain't looking too good either. UPDATE- GAME STILL CRASHES. It is not a system specs issue. It is NOT a driver issue. It is not a compatibility issue. IT IS A FORZA MOTORSPORT ISSUE. You see the "response" down below? it is a link that tells you to update your drivers, disable anything that can conflict, etc- do all of hat, and the game will STILL CRASH. Open a help ticket, and you will get more of the same- and no help or answers. DO NOT BUY THIS STEAMING PILE OF GARBAGE. UPDATE: It's a year later, there are still day one issues in the game, but now with more crashes to desktop, and loading times that can exceed 3 minutes. They have done nothing to fix (or allow us to adjust) controller integration- which is flat out horrible. Your steering angle will be limited by speed, and track position with zero regard given to how much grip is actually available. High grip, low powered builds are absolutely pointless in this game. The devs spend all their time adding things no one asked for and deleting anything critical of the game while the basic mechanics are still broken. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.

It has been about 3 months since the game launched, and at this point, I'm confident that it will never be updated into an acceptable state. First, a couple of good points: - The driving physics are a welcome step-up from the previous game. It feels tighter, more responsive and more precise. - They are slowly ironing out bugs. (Okay, so this should be expected, but I had to think of another positive for this game). On release, the game was quite literally unplayable for me. It's... well, *more* stable, now. And the bad: - Single player career. Hardly any events, all of which are short sprint-style races. There are no events with set difficulties to challenge myself with. - AI drivers. They simply can't race properly. I've seen them braking on the apex of a corner, and even on the exit of a corner into a straight. If I overtake on a straight, they sometimes swing out to hit me. I never get the sense of battling with another driver for pole position; it feels very static. The thing is, the AI CAN drive well, when they're alone. It often leads to most of the pack languishing as they constantly brake and refuse to take overtaking opportunities on the first lap, while the car that started first extends a large lead. Combine that with the short races in career mode, and you're in a mad dash to overtake as many cars as possible before you're held back too far by them. - Progression system. To upgrade your car requires that you drive it. The thing is, it takes hours to fully unlock the upgrades for a single car. Get a new car, you have to go through the same process again. This has knock-on effects for multiplayer and the Rivals time-trial mode, where you won't be competitive until your car is upgraded and tuned. - Graphics. Sure, there are some nice details, but it's all undermined by a horrible blurriness that I can't get rid of. It seems like there's some shoddy anti-aliasing going on, and there isn't an option to turn it off. Even upping the rendering scale doesn't solve the issue, leaving the game looking weirdly out of focus. It also goes for a washed-out, desaturated look which I personally despise. - Optimisation. I'm on a 5900X with 32GB RAM and an RX 7800XT. Even with ray tracing off, the game has places that consistently drop below 60FPS. Lowering the graphics further doesn't help, so it seems to be a CPU optimisation issue. For a game like this, consistent smooth performance is key. - Multiplayer. There's really nothing stopping other players from ramming you and ruining your game. There is a penalty system, but it's inconsistent in the magnitude of penalties, and who it considers to be at fault. I've had races with malicious players, but I've also had races with good, fair players. Multiplayer is limited to 60FPS for 'competitive reasons'. - Atmosphere. This is a bit subjective, I know, but the game lacks any kind of excitement or character; It just feels rather soulless and corporate. Overall, I very much regret my purchase. Most of my 'playtime' has been spent trying to figure out how to mitigate blurriness and improve performance. That was when I wasn't replaying events due to game crashes and it not saving my progress. Even now that the game is actually functional, I'm finding it a chore to play. It just isn't fun.

This game is evidence that even given the time, Turn 10 Studios is incapable of making anything other than a copy-past Madden-style franchise. The game had more development time than any Forza Motorsport game since the original and they have barely anything to show for it. Just a list of problems that come to mind: The graphics are worse than were shown in trailers The game is riddled with bugs There's no effective anticheat online The game requires you to be online to play the singleplayer career mode FOMO mechanics requiring you to complete career tours in a certain time period or miss out on exclusive cars Car models from the Xbox 360 era games Career mode is even more bare bones than Forza Motorsport 7's Tracks that were in Forza Motorsport 7 when it launched have been withheld from this game to release as "content updates" at a later date, including iconic tracks such as Daytona and the Nordschleife AI is somehow worse than previous titles. It struggles to make its way through a chicane if there is another car even remotely close to it. Race tire compounds were implemented in a way that has made race tires severely overpowered compared to other tires because the soft compound is not taken into account for PI calculations Tire wear modifier in online races, but for some reason cannot be set in other areas of the game Can't set the starting order in any meaningful way in Free Play: no qualification, no grid seeding, it's either by PI or random. Updates are only released monthly so no matter how big or small a bug is, it won't be fixed for at least a month (including bugs that make the game literally not launch for some people). Penalty system is more likely to penalize you for being rammed than for ramming someone Online skill/safety ratings appear to be entirely meaningless Forza Motorsport is a dead franchise run by bad leadership.

After 6 long years, we have been greeted with the worst and most disappointing Forza Motorsport to date. The PC version in particular is poorly optimized and should be avoided for the foreseeable future. The egregious leveling up system is done purposely to lengthen playtime and makes it a chore to progress through the game. There is no incentive to upgrading your vehicle at all. The overall performance leaves a lot to be desired and the lighting and graphics combination makes the game quite ugly even compared to much older racing games. The marketing for this game showed a totally built from ground up racing game but in reality this is an ugly, poorly made mess with assets ageing more than 15 years still in the game. The only good thing of note is the fantastic car physics which makes it pleasing to drive if you can ignore the plethora of bad game decisions and pure laziness committed by Turn 10. I cannot give this more than 3/10 in its current form and its lackluster track list further assists this bad result.

Pros * Visually looks good * Has decent framerate even on 3060Ti * Car selection Cons * pretty much everything else * Technically very buggy, often has lighting bugs, micro stutters, crashes, problems with login and connection to servers etc. * Massive understeer for all cars. Tires don't seem to bite into tarmac no matter the temp. * AI is stupid, drives dirty, chaotic and scripted (fast on 1st lap, then slow afterwards) * Bad with wheel (made for gamepad) * Not build from ground up. It's upgraded FM7 with RT * Sounds are bad * Career mode almost non-existant. Short, lazy, without pro race cars. Content dripping to the extreme level. * Penalty system is completely broken * leaderboards are full of cheaters as always * As with every Forza - wall of DLCs. Half of the cars are behind paywall again. * Clearly made as live service trash to force players to return every week for the new content drip. Easily the worst Forza game ever made. I regret getting it. It's empty. There's barely any game in this game. There's no more any passion, creativity, excitement. This is grey soulless office cubicle of a game. Career mode is very short and does not even feature any race car class. You can only drive road cars in career. It was built around you endlessly grinding out and upgrading one car. That at least got fixed, but lack of content is still there. It has very few events, and devs are adding (and removing!!!!!!!) one additional featured event group of only 5 championships about every month. They should have left all the past featured events on the list, considering how little there is to do in this game already. But Turn10 has very clearly been tasked with building next live service trash that will force people to return every week for another drip fed event, so they have nice statistics with player retention to show their bosses. Here's crazy idea - make a good game with lot's of stuff to do in it, and players will stick around. Everything in FM can be completed in one weekend. Then stick around and keep coming back each week for another featured event to get your money's worth out of this mess. Remember when Forza 3 and 4 had hundreads of events to complete? I mean how hard can it possibly be to create a damn event poster using your own photo mode, add a playlist of few already existing tracks, set car class, rules and repeat this bunch of times, so there's something to actually do in your game? Rivals mode is where you fight for fastest lap times on all tracks and car classes. It`a worthless, because leaderboards are full of cheaters. So your fast time don't really matter. The only thing left is multiplayer, which also is unplayable because even cleanest driver rating matchmaking is full of rammers who abuse the very much broken penalty system. Quite often you will get penalized for something other drivers did to you. Also, if you cut track in just the right way in right places, you can get away with it. Other times you will get penalties for putting only one wheel outside white lines or using entire track when cornering like you would in real world racing, by only keeping one wheel inside white lines for faster exits. Technically it's full of bugs and broken promises. "Built from ground up" my arse. The only cars that are made from scratch and not imported old Forza 3 models, are the cars new to the series. So majority are low quality, wrong proportions, etc. Remember how Forza fans laughed about Gran Turismo 5 importing GT4 cars? I guess it's Forza`s turn now. Physics model, might have faster calculations now, but the handling model is still the exact same from FM7. It's bad. It just understeers or snaps. Tires don't have any grip, no matter what compound or temperature. Controls were made with gamepads in mind, and you cannot feel the car much with wheel. Which is fine for an arcade racer, but Turn10 is always trying to sell FM as e-sports sim, which it is not. You can see that in how much they are trying to push it's broken multiplayer. At least now cockpit view steering wheel turns more than just 90 degrees. But FM still cannot get anywhere near to the driving feel that Gran Turismo have. There is absolutely nothing to do in this game. It's empty, broken skeleton of a racing game, that has hundreads of nice cars and absolutely nothing to do with them. Do not waste your money.

Unfortunately, Forza Motorsport 8 feels like a major step back for the series. Instead of the high-quality racing simulator everyone was expecting, we got a rushed product full of issues. The first thing you notice is the lack of content. The car roster and track selection feel noticeably limited for a game of this scale, and the variety of modes leaves a lot to be desired. Many features that were standard in previous entries are either heavily stripped down or missing entirely. Then there's the progression system, which is just flat-out boring and grindy. You're forced to drive the same car over and over again just to unlock basic upgrades. This kills the excitement and flow that Forza is supposed to deliver and makes the whole experience feel like a chore. Optimization isn't much better either, even on high-end PCs, there are FPS drops, stuttering, and other performance hiccups that shouldn't be happening. In the end, Forza Motorsport 8 feels more like an incomplete live-service project that's maybe going to be finished later down the line. But for a full-price launch title, it's hard to recommend. If you were hoping for a rich, polished racing experience with engaging progression, this isn't it. Better to wait for discounts or some serious updates.

Coming from a Forza Motorsports enthusiast (over 1k hours in at least 6 & 7 and played every motorsport since 3), this game is an atrocity. It might have actually killed the franchise. The car leveling system is a huge miss, it really just feels like a chore. The a.i. and difficulty selection is a major step down from 7. The graphical glitches are numerous and glaring. The racing itself just feels worse altogether. I honestly can't say how disappointed I am after having waited so long for this.

This review may be changed over the course of time depending on the actions Turn10 Studios will take. At 18-11-2023 I am posting this as a NEGATIVE review. Right now, with the current state of the game and compared to olders titles all the way back to Forza Motorsport 2 when I started, this game is nowhere close to the quality of previous titles. The Gameplay: It's "ok" and still is Forza but there have been changes made that simply do not make any sense and frankly are just plain annoying after a short while. For example, you have to get "Car XP" for every single car you own. This means you have to unlock all the upgrades for every car over and over again. The annoying thing is that in the past you could just buy the upgrades depending on your driver level. Meaning that eventually you could just buy it all for all the vehicles. While I can understand you want a bit more progession to be involved, this aint it chief. To make things worse, some core upgrades like tire compound are made so expensive that you often refrain from it for quite some time. This while tire compounds appear to have a major role in the game (which is actually nice). The races are plain and simple, straight forward. But the AI is not so 'dynamic' and 'evolving' as they said it would be. It's actually very easy AI even on the most difficult setting despite me being an average player at best. Now the AI has a few 'modes' while racing them. 1. RACING LINE OR BUST. They will ram you as much as they can to get you off the track. 2. You got the corner? I AM OFF TO NARNIA! Yeah the AI just divebombs into the gravel/grass or even the wall without being close to them simply because you had the racing line on the corner. 3. I'M JUST ENJOYING THE RIDE! Meaning, they just cruise around slowly.... They are not going for the best possible times they can get. Now onto the driving itself..... and yeah.... CARS ARE NOT ON ICESKATES. Some cars tend to just feel like you're driving on ice. This get's A LOT WORSE WHEN USING A WHEEL. I've made many laps in several vehicles on both controller and my G920 and I couldn't help but notice that when using a wheel there is simply no grip at all. Even if you mimic the input to your controller, the car just refuses to steer and starts gliding off the track like you're driving on ice. "Git gud" many said at the start but now most of us agree, wheel setups don't work right now. FFB is BROKEN. When it works it's nice, but after a few laps it tends to just shutdown and randomly reappear again. Graphics and Sound: As many said, graphics are a mile off. While I've had some tracks that looked quite good and with some weather events involved even quite beautifull, this is a rare instance. I would say that Forza Motorsport 3 looks better in quite some ways than some tracks and, unfortunately, cars look. Sound overall decent but not that great. I did notice that on some car classes the brakes sound like a nitrous injection which is just weird. Performance: Shambles, it's not optimized at all and framerate can dip in low 40s for me in Ultra while the graphics themselves are nowhere near other games that run so much better. (I7 13700k, 32GB RAM @ 4200, RTX 3080 installed on M.2 NVME, RES: 3440x1440) RTX is not noticeable at all so rather just disable that. DLSS seems not to do anything and as mentioned, the game doesn't even look that good. If I were to boot up Project Cars, Assetto Corsa Competitione or heck even Forza Horizon 5 they just look so much better. Note: Forza Horizon 5 works like a dream and looks a lot better, I don't get how to got it so wrong here. Multiplayer: Is a lot of fun. Best part so far especially thanks to the safety ratings. However, the penalty system needs work as players who tend to charge in like the Hulk get no pentalties but their victims do. Unfortunately this happened to me once so far. Content: Drip feeding content but also straight up lacking loads of content. Forza 7 has disappeared but we lack tracks and cars. So many inconic tracks that have always been in the titles are now missing or being released much later on (like Nordschleife). I can't understand why this game lacks so much. Overall: Like Gran Turismo 7 that has been out for 2 years now. This game needs work and after all that work it hopefully will be fine. But right now I just cannot recommend the game despite loving the Forza Motorsport series. This game made me step into Gran Turisme 7 as I never owned any of those titles before.

Final edit +30 Hours of actual game play Do not buy. Simple, it's poorly optimised, the most extreme drip fed content ive ever seen. ♥♥♥♥ you T10 you ruined it I love the game, truly - I dont love trying to modify my car and it looping on saving - then losing the last 2-4 races I've completed.... Edit since 1.1 - From 100% chance of looping, down to maybe 20% now. Thats still a negative review from this guy, great game - shocking support as always with a "AAA" Edit 2 - Ok don't try and buy a new car now - that's a loop save too. Edit 3 - just loop saved again, lost 2 races - Off to by a PS5 for something that rhymes with Gran Turismo Edit 4 @ roughly 52 hours and latest update - I've had one crash from a race and one only, loop saving appears to have been corrected. There is still so much with this game that is broken and unfinished, review remains negative. Do not buy now. The way content is drip fed is shocking and the grind to level up a car is a joke. Still no object permanence on track - knocked out a brake marker? It's ok its magically back next lap! Buy Gran Turismo, the real driving simulator - or do what I'm doing and playing Forza Horizon 5 again, because its a better game.

Complete trash game with a lot of serious issues even after their patch to fix it. I wasted over $100 on this and even had friends buy it too. Never again. I'm done with forza. Could not refund because I waited, in good faith, for them to fix the game and it had too many hours on it due to troubleshooting and waiting for shaders to compile every launch, and I had to launch a lot due to memory leak crashes.

AI drivers are pretty terrible. Graphics are poorly optimized. No option to race with friends and fill the rest with AI. Some tracks have frame rate issues. Upgrade system makes zero sense. Unlock sport/race tires fast but need to grind many more levels just to have the points to equip them. Seriously disappointing. All of the marketing around this “ground up” new game and really it’s just the old engine with the old bugs from 8 years ago. One positive - The tire physics do feel good.

Don't waste your hard earned money on this Developer or game. They are betting on you overspending on their indecent title. There is some fun to be had here, but for the sake of yourself, I would wait until the game hits the -70% sales as it isn't even worth it at half price. There isn't anything here to get you to pay that price, but they will keep using manipulative marketing to try and get you. There's more fun on a random, frozen moon in Starfield than there is to be had here. We really need to stop giving Pre-Order Money to these developers so their incentive is to finish and complete a game rather than run off with the pre order money and only fix small bugs every now and then. Ignore their Hype Commercials and Ads. Stop handing these indecent developers money they do not deserve. You worked hard for it. (!) Senna is going off the corner in his grave right now. (!)

Unbalanced $100 Million “Built from the Ground Up” Disappointment (yes, even well over a year and 20 updates after release) Despite a massive production budget of over $100 million, a long development cycle, and a premium price tag, I cannot recommend Forza Motorsport 2023 due to several critical issues. I’ve spent over 400 hours thoroughly testing every aspect of the game so you don’t have to. I could write a novel about it, but let’s keep it “short.” Critical Flaws: 1. AI does not mimic real racing experience: Inconsistent AI Difficulty The AI difficulty is highly inconsistent and varies depending on the combination of tracks, cars, performance index, weather conditions, grid positions and many others factors. One race at difficulty level 8 might feel very easy, while another at the same level could feel nearly impossible to win. Unbalanced AI Performance In almost every race, 1–2 Drivatars perform unrealistically well and offer a real challenge, while the rest are significantly slower and easy to overtake. It feels like you’re racing against 2 real opponents and the rest are just “background actors.” Poor AI Starts The AI starts very slowly from the grid and tends to remain in a two-file formation for the first few corners. If the first corner is a hairpin or tight turn, they often crash into each other. No Tire Strategy in Dynamic Weather The AI lacks tire strategy. For example, if the rain stops in the final laps, they all pit to change tires unnecessarily, often throwing away the race. Weak Overtaking Logic The AI struggles to overtake both other AI and the player. If you start at the front of the grid, your chances of winning are significantly higher. Track-Specific Issues On some tracks (e.g., Sunset Peninsula, Kyalami, Lime Rock) under some circumstances (e.g., all the same car model race), the AI frequently runs wide and goes off course. Collision Behavior When Drivatars collide with your car, they don’t attempt to avoid you or slow down — they simply keep pushing and ramming as if you’re not even there. AI Stops Competing After Being Overtaken Once you pass the last AI opponent, it often feels like they stop fighting and slow down, making the rest of the race feel lifeless and unchallenging. 2. The Performance Index system breaks down on specific tracks The Performance Index (PI) concept falls apart on tracks like Le Mans, where cars with higher top speeds have a massive advantage, or Fujimi Kaido, where cars with superior grip dominate. Ideally, PI should be track-specific rather than universal, as different tracks emphasize different performance characteristics. 3. Overpowered “Meta” Cars Break Competitive Balance Some cars—often referred to as "meta cars"—simply perform better and set faster lap times than others, even when they share the same Performance Index. These cars need to be nerfed to ensure fair competition in online races. 4. Broken Tuning Physics Enable Unrealistic Performance Gains The tuning system allows for unrealistic setups (“meta tunes”) that enable cars to outperform what their PI rating suggests. This undermines fair online competition and breaks immersion, as vehicles behave in ways that don’t reflect their intended capabilities. 5. PI Restrictions in Online Races Undermine Upgrade Balance Online races often restrict cars to full even PI values (e.g. 500, 600, 700), which can disrupt the balance of car upgrades. This system forces players to either leave performance potential unused or exploit the PI cap with overpowered builds, leading to uneven competition. Welcome improvements to see in future updates/iteration of FM (in random order): A longer and more engaging career mode Custom championship creator Improved penalty system A deeper and more complex online mode, with smoother, less laggy opponents Faster, more stable UI with automation options (e.g. auto fuel per lap, preferred tire selection) A better and smarter auto-upgrade system Built-in car engineer (auto-tune function) Reduced tendency for entry-corner understeer in car physics (recommend using ForzaTune app to help balance it) Better default force feedback (FFB) without the need for extensive fine-tuning Improved FFB curb vibrations — currently too weak or entirely absent More control over weather conditions in all modes (more wet/dry dynamic options) Significantly reduced grip in wet conditions for higher realism Driver statistics — currently completely missing Option to reset game progress More natural color grading (saturation, exposure, contrast) without relying on NVIDIA filters Better game optimization across platforms (especially RTGI) More diverse and dynamic skyboxes, with varied cloud formations and plane condensation trails Improved grid start controls More thoughtful track selection, considering the game's high budget and price tag (Monaco, Monza, Willow Spring) Proper car body reflections in mirrors A full-featured time trial mode with personal ghost lap comparison Track mastery system — level up each track through experience Better driver identity customization (e.g., country selection) Team creation system Replay system that mimics real TV broadcast style Option to include practice and qualifying in free race mode Real-time pit stops and no ghosted traffic in pit lanes Skippable intro sequence 😉 No internet connection required for single-player content Ability to pause/save during very long endurance races Unlimited space for garage, tunes, and liveries Easier-to-use and better-optimized livery editor A proper racing school: tips on correct driving technique, and historical background on racing cars and circuits Expanded camera settings More HUD options (full race time, current day time) Full flag system and safety car implementation More realistic mechanical damage modeling Realistic random weather patterns for each location (currently almost half random weather races on Yas Marina is rain) Fix remained bugs and glitches Final word: Although Forza Motorsport offers impressive visuals, a strong car roster with a flexible upgrade system, solid driving physics, and intuitive force feedback, it still suffers from too many critical issues to earn a positive recommendation. I can only hope that future updates will address these problems and bring the game up to its full potential.

Note: I have many hours in this on GamePass, but just bought the Steam version today. This game is probably the most vivid example of a lynch mob mentality among players of any game I've ever seen. I decided to analyze the situation and see what happened. First of all, let's start with the composition of user reviews. When a game has "Overwhelmingly Positive" user reviews, there is rarely one defining factor that causes the reviews to be so positive. The same can't be said for reviews that are mostly negative. Generally speaking, you have one predominant issue that many people point out. This frequently balloons into "everything is wrong" sorts of reviews, and, no matter whether positive or negative, there are always a few people so angry and disconnected from reality that you wonder if they played the same game. I actually gathered a bunch of examples from all of these that I was going to post here, but decided that would be rude. People can have their opinions, and I'm a poor person to select to speak about other people writing dumb things. I do it all the time. Sometimes my emotions about a game take over, and I write a scathing review that I later become embarrassed about. It happens. I understand what it's like to be disappointed about a game, and so my review here isn't really criticizing anyone. It's just pointing out what happened. But let's get to the point... The two things that are mentioned most in negative reviews are that the developer lied about the game being "built from the ground up" and bugs/optimization problems. To quickly speak to the latter, bugs on PC are sometimes related to specific systems, as sometimes are optimization problems. For this reason, I can only speak of my experience, but wouldn't consider my experience to be representative of the entire community. For me, after over 100 hours on Game Pass, but only a couple of hours on Steam, I haven't noticed any significant bugs. There have been a couple of small things here or there, but definitely nothing that impacted my overall experience. As for optimization, my experience is that the game is optimized at this point about the same as FH5. Take it or leave it. Your experiences on your systems will likely vary. As for occasional connection issues, there has never been a Forza game without them, so nothing to see here. The big issue, which was the inspiration for this review, is really the phrase "built from the ground up", and the truth is that, while Turn10 did utter those words on multiple occasions, they were always related to something specific. Turn10 never, that I can recall or find, stated that the entire game was "built from the ground up", only that large parts of it were; for instance, the AI, the physics and locations, and, most important to our discussion, the materials and shaders used for car model finishes. This is extremely important because the lynch mob mentality started when YouTubers and folks on reddit noticed that the game was using, in some cases, old car models. This quickly ballooned into Turn10 lying about building the game from the ground up, but they never actually said all the models were new. They said the materials and shaders were new (to simplify, materials in game development are paint). But it didn't matter what Turn10 actually said. As is usually the case, no one actually cared if this was accurate. They were just mad. Just as a side note on this. There are several hundred cars in the game, and while most of them were built from scratch, a number of them used older models. With that many cars, my personal opinion is that having a few older models is not exactly equivalent to treason. But if you feel they all should have been brand new, I won't argue with you. That would have been nice. Another thing that I would like to mention is the much maligned singleplayer campaign. Many seem to hate it, but they never go into detail about what you are getting. For starters, there is no story, just a series of championships to participate in, just as in other Motorsport games and nearly every racing sim. That can be good or bad depending on the player. There are 4 permanent major series and 2 additional series, one special and one that changes every so often like the weekly challenges. So at any given time there are 6 series and usually at least one new one. I can't say this will always be the format, as these things tend to change. Each one of these series has 4 championships of either 5 or 6 races. I didn't count how many had 5 and how many had six, so to be pessimistic, let's just say they all have 5. So you have 24 championships of 5 races, so the singleplayer career has 120 races. Only you can decide whether this format or quantity is enough for you if you are primarily a singleplayer person, but each of those races will last about 15 minutes, so that's 30 hours if you do nothing but those races one after another, never decorating your cars, never running any custom races or multiplayer or never start a race over (guilty), etc. And this also ignores the new series that are always being added. One final bone of contention is the CARPG style of leveling and improving your cars. I understand why people who want to do nothing but race would dislike it. That's fine. It's a grind. Actually, I didn't think I would like it at all, but now I think it adds character and strategy to each championship. So there you go. Those are my largely rambling thoughts on the game and why it is rated so lowly. By the way, professional reviews and Xbox players seem to disagree pretty significantly. Even PC Game pass players seem to like the game okay. The bottom line is that this game is not nearly as bad as the Steam and metacritic user reviews would lead you to believe. In fact, I think it's quite good.

Update #2: With the 8th installment of "Look, we fixed things for you, do you like us yet, senpai?" by Turn10 now released, I figured why not give another update of my own. TLDR: I'm not changing my recommendation nor am I recanting anything I've said previously. However, I will say that the most noticeable thing they fixed in this update is my ability to stay connected to the game servers in featured multiplayer races. Thankfully, now I put in 20-30 minutes of practice and qualifying, and right when it ends practice to transition to the actual race, it just disconnects me from the lobby automatically. I don't have to bother actually racing anymore, and as an added bonus, the game typically just locks up on the black screen and the spinning wheel indicating it's loading game files stops spinning. I'm assuming they were paying the animator per revolution of that graphic, so they're saving a ton of money now. It's mind-boggling to me that with every update or patch, Turn10 tries to pat themselves on the back for "fixing" problems that should never have existed in the first place all while creating all new issues for themselves. I should probably go easy on them, though, because, after all, they're just a small, indie game publisher... It's not like Microsoft or Turn10 have deep pockets and endless manpower to successfully develop a quality game. FFS. What is wrong with me that I load up this game after every patch or update thinking this time will be different... Update: Steam wanted me to update my review because I've had the game for longer now... Guess what? My recommendation to run as far away from this flaming bag of swine excrement still stands! Congrats, Turn 10, you've managed to make it worse still. Sure, some of the early issues you caused are now fixed, like pathetic optimization and terrible video quality, but let's be fair... those shouldn't have been problems to begin with. It's not like the end user is employing some fancy space-age tech that you couldn't get your hands on to test the build. Now, after 7 major updates, multiplayer lobbies are still crashing, the penalty system is completely hosed, and the "built from the ground up" AI in single player is so bad that it's tough to tell if I accidentally joined a multiplayer lobby with all the ramming and crashing into everything... well, except that it doesn't constantly say "Poor network" at the top and disconnect me mid-race. If this is the best you all can do there, maybe it's time to switch genres. With the slow trickle of content (that's obviously being recycled from previous releases with a hack-job layer of makeup and glitter), I bet you'd do well making a Gatcha game. Oh, and I forgot to mention the fact that any dissent or criticism of the game on their official /r will get you banned, so that's fun. I'd say make good use of the last money you'll ever get from me, but it's pretty obvious that you won't. ***ADVICE FOR ANYONE THINKING ABOUT BUYING THIS GAME*** DON'T SERIOUSLY. DON'T. 5 months in and instead of fixing the glaring problems (or simply releasing a working game to begin with), they are tinkering with car progression and other nonsense. Broken AI, broken penalty system, broken safety rating, terrible GPU optimizations, awful system stability issues, infinite loading screens, lobby and loading screen crashes, poor network disconnects, broken replay saves in multiplayer (which are REQUIRED to report unsportmanlike players, btw), and countless other things that have been consistently ignored. At this point, my only wish would be to get my money back for this dumpster fire. Every single update they release that doesn't address the core problems is just putting more lipstick on a pig. My advice: Don't bother with this. There's plenty of other titles made by teams that actually care about the quality of game they are putting out to the public.

I got this for 50% off during the steam summer sale, and I thought that maybe it was worth it now. Nope. I don't know what I expected. I heard of the negative reviews, and I figured that the game would be better now, but no, this is a garbage fire of a game. The first impressions were enough to make me drop it; 1) Unskippable tutorial. other newer forza games have this too. But this is Forza MOTORSPORT, an unskippable tutorial with a cheerful woman narrating every step tarnishes the prestige and competitiveness it's going for, and can't be taken seriously. 2) Career mode. It's one big ad for road cars, it's really in your face about it. There are not many career events for actual race cars... in a racing game... 3) Performance. I don't understand why this game and so many other new games that have come out recently have LOCKED temporal anti-aliasing. It looks horrible; like the visual quality of a game from 15 years ago. The lighting and appearance of materials also look off, but not only does it look bad, it runs badly too! with a 1660 super, intel 11th gen i5, and 16 gigs of ddr4, I can barely maintain 70 fps on the LOWEST graphical settings. I don't care if the performance on Xbox is better, this is a PC game too, it should run well on PC. 4) One of the biggest offenders however is the framerate limit in multiplayer, for the sake of "balance". The devs aren't serious about cheaters, and they cant even make a proper penalty system for the competitive sim racer they tout it to be, but they care about platform performance disparity? Having a wheel and pedals for this kind of game is a bigger advantage than any fps increase. 5) Menus & UI. I also don't understand this new trend in games to have the most unintuitive UI possible. It looks and feels sluggish, and like it belongs to a streaming service like netflix. 6) One of the only redeeming qualities is the actual driving and handling model. Which is disappointing because everything else is not at the same standard. Don't buy this game. Not on a 50% sale, or 75%. It's not worth it.

Let's be clear. Is this game perfect... No. Is this game fun... Yes. I'm a casual PC sim racer who mostly plays iracing and ams2 with the occasional dirt 2. I do have a full wheel and cockpit with triple screens. This is not a sim, but it is a simcade and for me scratches that itch when I want to race, but don't want to take it too seriously or only have enough time for a quick race. I did a lot of research on some wheel settings to use in my Moza software along with in game and then have been tweaking from there. It definitely isn't as bad if you have a good starting point. I never expected it to be sim level and was actually surprised it wasn't as bad as people were making it out to be. On that note, the cars, especially the starter ones are super understeery. As you level it up you can unlock things to improve that. I just learned to adapt to it and give the car what it needs and I have been able to hit all target times on level 5 difficulty with expert ruleset in place. You'll read a lot of reviews about bad AI. I honestly think that aside from iracing AI in private sessions this may be one of the better ones. If you aren't a perpetual dive bomber who expects everyone to get out of your way even if the corner isn't yours you often will have clean races. I do admit that the race starts are a little odd, but it's easy to adapt to if you have some racecraft. You don't win the race on turn 1. I personally enjoy slowly upgrading cars as you get experience with them. It can be a grind if you are Uber competitive and want everything right away or play nom stop, but for casual fans who like to learn their car and just enjoy the race it really is quite fun. Multiplayer is hit or miss and I haven't done much of it yet, but honestly had cleaner races with AI so far. The main bug I've ran into is that I have to rebind my pedal inputs from my Moza pedals every time I log in. It is irritating, but takes 3 seconds and doesn't break the game for me. Overall, I enjoy the game and think many casual racers who don't always have the time or energy for iracing/acc, but think FH5 is too arcadey with not enough proper track races or proper racing rules in place. I hope this helps someone as I'd like to see people having fun with this and continue to get updates and attention for a long time.
